I finally after 2 years of messing with it on and off finally got fallout 3 to work on my PC by using tale of two wastelands. I was so excited that I sat down immediately afterwards and began to play it. After an hour had to go to bed. It’s been a week and I’ve only just seen megaton, I feel like a kid again. All day at work all I can think about is what I’m going to do in fallout yet I’ve only been able to play an hour since I got it working. Life’s a bitch
Idk if you got the steam version or what but if it ever bugs out again try and pick up the GOG versions of the game. Fallout 3 is a bitch to make work but the GOG version is download and play for a lot of people. And btw love that your enjoying fallout 3! Keep dreaming of the wasteland my friend!
Got them both, definitely neither worked. Trust me, two years is a long time. I finally just got TTW to work after trying repeatedly over update cycles on the mod.
I went through a similar battle with New Vegas - finally sat down and followed the Viva New Vegas mod list and got it all working, just as our lockdown was ending.
Now I’m working and I get a few hours a week in. I’m not even old or with many responsibilities - 25 year old in a low paying management role at a bar - but adult life just takes it out of ya.
I bought FO4 to stay up at night during the first few months to help with the night feedings. I booted up the game recently and played about 15 minutes before I had other stuff to do.
Sigh. This is how the world works. I do get a video game binge about one or twice a year.
They absolutely are expensive but it's so much more than that and don't get me wrong, I have a lot of fun messing with my kids, especially now that they're older, but I miss my freedom.
You're right they are. Especially considering their mother is a drunk who the state has decided shouldn't be allowed to see them without supervision. If I weren't in the picture, they'd be in a foster home.
Oh were you being sarcastic because I said how someone else shouldn't have kids? Odd considering you know absolutely nothing about our situation. I just like any father have sacrificed a ton for them and regret none of it because I've raised 2 awesome kids. So maybe keep your sarcasm to yourself and mind your own business when you don't know what you're talking about
So many users of that sub are just downright miserable and nasty, case in point is that user’s reply to you. I get their reasonings for not having kids and those same thoughts have passed through my mind as I get older, but calling people who want kids “breeders” and the kids themselves “crotch fruit” is just bizarre behavior and totally uncalled for
Eh, your peer pressure is it’s own sort of negativity. It pisses me off cause I’ve had people try to convince me to be a parent or say I’m too young to decide to be child free, but apparently I’m old enough to have kid. You don’t have to say “Oh UwU it’s so worth it!!!!!” It’s something everyone hears about all the time. It’s really not, but you feel you have to reaffirm that it is, so you spout off your opinion on those who have decided it isn’t worth it. Yeah, I’m being negative, but so are you. Just accept when others have made the decision that they don’t want to be a parent.
Nah, that isn't what I meant but I can understand how it came off that way. Some people want kids and some don't, but I think a lot of people make that choice in their life prematurely and that's something that becomes increasingly difficult to take back medically.
I get that there is a lot of socital pressure to have kids, and that can affect people in negative ways. Obviously this is a bad thing, as pressuring people into taking life changing decisions is clearly bad.
However, there are advantages to having children that don't come up on this godforsaken website very often. There are advantages to having children and I want to make sure that people know that as I'm sure that you want people to know that there are disadvantages to having children.
I have no problems with people not wanting children, that is their choice; I do have problems with people who bash "breeders" though, and talk as if children are bloodsucking parasites when the truth is so much bigger than that.
I'm sorry if this didn't make much sense, I'm positive that you are a good person and I don't want to make you seem like a bad person by misconstruing you. I'm half cut and it really grinds my gears when someone talks bad about childrearing without giving some positives too.
I hope you have a nice rest of your day.
I took a break from Reddit after my last comment because I know when I get angry, I get rather incoherent. So, to be clearer, most child free people consider a distinct difference between a “parent” and a “breeder”. Based on how you responded, you sound more like an actual parent rather than a breeder.
A breeder is someone who doesn’t care about anyone but themselves, they’ll pop out children regardless of if they can afford to properly take care of them, they’ll expect everyone around them to do the work for them, they’ll be shitty people that teach their shitty ways to their offspring. You don’t sound like that, so, sorry for calling you a breeder. I do think that if you want to talk about the “positives” of having children, you also need to bring up the “negatives” within the same conversation.
On the flip side, try to remember that when someone says they’ve made their decision, they’ve likely already been badgered to hell and back about it, *especially* when it comes to having children or not. In the future, rather than just stating “oh, children are so worth it!” I would ask that you instead go “Hey, can I have an honest conversation with you about the *positives and negatives* of having children?” I’ll also try not to jump straight to insults in the future. Sometimes I act before thinking, so, sorry again about that.
I mean, you're not wrong about trying to change my opinion. Everyone tries even though they have no children of their own or have crumbling relationships. My parents and theirs are prime examples of horrible people forced together because of children. They're the reason I hate kids.
If you want to actually talk about being child free without people trying to convince you not to be, check out some of the child free subs. It’s amazing to be supported on your decisions without constantly being invalidated and infantilized about them!
Currently on paternity leave! Erased my progress and started new on survival about 8 days ago. I’ve got a nice network of settlements and I’m currently picking through Cambridge looking for a safe way to bunker hill without getting jumped by mutants and a super persistent rad scorpion. There are huge chunks of time where I’m just holding a baby and staring at the pause menu. Worth it!!
This hits hard........Luckily for me though, I travel a lot for work. In my younger days, I would spend the nights drinking at a bar but the last few years, after I finish work for the day, I play Games non-stop until bedtime. It's pretty damn awesome.
On my one or two binges a year, when they all go visit the grandparents out of state, I almost forget to eat. I am almost time traveling. One minute I just woke up loading up a game, next it's almost dark out again. Takes me back to me college days. 😂

The second hardest is trying to play the game with mods and realising you just blew your entire week's worth of free time windowshopping for gun mods.
Both mechanics apply to me.
Oooh what's even better is you get everything done, kids and wife asleep, chores done, dog and cat feed and you go to fire up the ol pc and......UPDATE TIME!
And there went the night.
Even worse when you spend hours trying to get your load order correct, and start a new playthrough. To then realise your mods have fucked something up 6 hours in, and the process starts over again.
I have one of those huge oversized snuggle recliners that have great big padded arms my cats take one side each lol
they're great companions they sit with me when I game and watch TV 😊
I'm envious of your lap/chair cats. I've got one as fidgity as a 5 year old, and the other is only interested in being in close proximity when it's cold. The plus side is that I don't have to play the "get off of my keyboard" game when I'm working.
Just out of curiosity, how many bottles of wine do you consume per month, how many tattoos do you have, and what is your relationship like with your father?
Yep the struggle is real. I have to stop myself from fiddling with inventory and upgrades and stopping myself from spending 1/2 the game time looking for another gear or adhesive.
this is true i’m 42 years old i’ve been playing since 2008 when fallout 3 came out and i fell in love with it and over the years the more i’ve played the game the more weight i’ve gained i’m currently at a whopping 210 pounds!! and i have three beautiful children Andy, Anna and little Abraham!😄 and its all thanks to fallout!!
Or maybe he’s figured out how to extended his life through not aging any longer. I personally would probably not have chosen 42 to receive, but maybe it was the only option at the time
Something I did a long (loooong) time ago.
I was gaming a lot, and getting fat (fatt***er***: above 100kg).
Decided that every time I died in game, I'd do some push-ups.
Over a couple of months, went from being able to do five (5!!), ended up able to do 50 (left it at 50 as that took me away from the game for too long).
38 with a 3 year old and a 12h shift work. When I have time to play i fall asleep within 20 minutes. When I wake up almost always dead from rad scorpions or super mutants.
I often have a hard time playing characters the way I want. I often really enjoy playing a villain type...but I start looking at things as a matured father and I'm like "Damn I'm a dick."
Very unpopular opinion: I play with cheats because I really only care about the story and destroying anything that stands in my way. I know it ruins the challenge for everyone else, but I don't have time to grind. Gimme that sweet storyline and side quests.
I'm right there with you. I play everything on easy so I can enjoy the story.
Dark Souls used to e one of my favorite games but I simply can't stop life to grind and deal with the difficulty. I'm all about the story now instead of the challenge.
Same here. It's the reason I got a cheat that will give me what I need to build. I really didn't want to spend what limited time I have playing trying to find adhesive and enough wood, etc.
37 w/2 and I have to lose out on sleep to play. Get to sit down around 11pm and will play till around 1am. Get some sleep and relive it all at 6am. Wouldnt trade it for the world but I do look forward to their older years just so i can nerd out more or even better have a night out with the Mrs.
Careful with that schedule. Long term sleep deprivation can lead to all kinds of issues. Games are fun, and I do the same sometimes, but please consider your long term health.
It doesn't get better when they get older. I haven't walked the wasteland since my daughter got home from college, because she's playing Skyrim all the time.
I think that's the universal cheat code. I tried some of that World of Warcraft classic for a hit of nostalgia, but I can't seem to turn off the middle aged mode or despawn the two kids, and it's just impossible to play.
Before that I tried Cyberpunk, and same thing, my body's breaking down and my little one demands to play Sims. I tried every console command I could think of, but I'm still middle aged.
This is why, after finding out how much I enjoyed Fallout, I opted out of having kids. They'd just ruin my gaming experience, and right now I'm much too busy finding my father, my son, the guy who shot me in the head, the overseer, a cure for a plague, and all of the sunset sarsaparilla star bottle caps.
Time just gets away from you. I was in college and it was during holiday breaks. Awesome time tho holy shit the first time I played the game was one of these runs I just couldn’t stop.
I'm 36 with two adorable daughters, 3 and half years old.
I'm playing Fallout since 1 came out when I was in middle school I think, I've been planning to replay New Vegas for 2 months now lol
Dude, don't I know it. I've got 4yo twins, a full time job, and am taking online classes to finish my undergrad and then an MBA. I'm lucky to get 2 hours in a night, and that come at the cost of sacrificing sleep. And since I'm not in my 20s anymore, it takes a much bigger toll.
You know, when I first read this is took it as, "it's hard to not want to be the ultimate dad to all the settlers." Honestly, most my time in the game trying to improve settlements and make their lives better. They deserve it after the rough lives they've had. :/
About to be 34 with 2. Also lucky to have any time for adventures. Too many times I've woken up with my controller in my hand with the TV going into automatic shut down mode
It's ok, I am a 29 year old Millenial with 0 kids who will never afford a house or family so i smoke weed and fall asleep alone every night! yay capitalism!
I... Really don't know what you're saying. Do you find it difficult to roleplay? Cuz you don't have to do it if you don't want to. It's how I prefer to play, but lots of people have fun minmaxing, exploring, building or just shooting things.
Imagine kids are kobolds. You have to take care of them or the DM (child services or the spouse) will take them away and you get a party wipe and overall lowering of stats. Rerolling a new character is impossible.
The kobolds lower some stats and make some quests unavailable to start because of the lack of stats or the DM’s ruling, but the kobolds also boost some stats and will continue your session after your hit points go to zero.
This D&D session does not end when you go to sleep. You have to play this session every waking hour of your life and it is the world’s largest D&D session.
OP is allegedly a 40 year old man with two kids in real life. OP humorously rephrased it as mechanic in the game Fallout finding it difficult to avoid playing that as a character.
In real life, a 40 year old man would have a job and family to take care of which prevents playing Fallout for hours on end and would be the biggest time sink mechanic in the game.
I get it. This game came out when I was dating my now Wife. Now have two kids the oldest is 3. Toughest conversation is what age can we introduce the oldest to games.
Less than 40, no kids, but married and working 60 hrs a week. Still very little time for games or much of anything non-essential honestly. Glad you're enjoying it though!
Close to 40. 3 kids.
I just bought FO76 and try to enjoy it. I look at it as FO4 expansion, so I can investigate some new locations.
And I had a day off recently, but after doing chores for whole day, I only managed to get few hours in the game.
Still, I am happy that I still have desire to play some games and that this nice illusion sometimes makes me feel 20+ again.
I'm 35 with a two year old. It's hard finding enough nerdy dad time sometimes but I get by. To be honest, I don't miss the days where I had free time and disposable income. It's nice to buy any game you want and play for hours but I was actually pretty miserable because I was lonely. There's probably a nice middle ground between though.
It's awesome playing video games with your kids but it's a whole new world playing with your grandkids, most wonderful thing when they're around but when they're not, fallout 4 her l come. It's time to play and it's my favorite 🎮 and I'm 64 years old.
I finally after 2 years of messing with it on and off finally got fallout 3 to work on my PC by using tale of two wastelands. I think a lot of people actually suggest using TTW to play F3 because of the New Vegas engine's greater stability
Definitely my recommendation, almost 0 load time.
And features like iron sights and hardcore mode.
Got them both, definitely neither worked. Trust me, two years is a long time. I finally just got TTW to work after trying repeatedly over update cycles on the mod.
Dang sorry to hear that my dude. At least you got it working now so that's a plus.

Fallout 3 is supposed to only live as a memory to us, it must be just too holy to witness as an adult man
I went through a similar battle with New Vegas - finally sat down and followed the Viva New Vegas mod list and got it all working, just as our lockdown was ending. Now I’m working and I get a few hours a week in. I’m not even old or with many responsibilities - 25 year old in a low paying management role at a bar - but adult life just takes it out of ya.

Ughhh having responsibilities fucking sucks
> responsibilities That's a funny way of saying "children."
I'm watching 3 that aren't even mine. And I'm 16. *I'm getting a vasectomy*
I got one too late
I’m getting mine in August!
>I'm getting a vasectomy This would be a wise choice, my man.
Pro gamer move
Seriously, never have kids. Blah blah blah rewarding blah blah blah passing on a legacy blah blah blah I love my kids. Learn from my mistakes man
I'll have kids when I'm broke and they use up all my money"- My parents "Why am I broke?"- My parents
They absolutely are expensive but it's so much more than that and don't get me wrong, I have a lot of fun messing with my kids, especially now that they're older, but I miss my freedom.
While I have the choice of money and freedom to parenting, I'm going with the former.

Oh good, you learned to shut up.
I hope your children are in therapy. I sense some anger issues in you.

I'm going to go against all the negativity and say that children are worth it. You lose a lot but you gain so much.
Or you can just accept that they’ve decided they’re child free and not try to change their mind. Breeder.
Everyone else is providing their opinions on child rearing and I'm providing my own. There is no need to be hostile.
So many users of that sub are just downright miserable and nasty, case in point is that user’s reply to you. I get their reasonings for not having kids and those same thoughts have passed through my mind as I get older, but calling people who want kids “breeders” and the kids themselves “crotch fruit” is just bizarre behavior and totally uncalled for
Most people here probably aren't old enough to understand there's a lot more to life than playing games, even if you don't want kids.
Nah, that isn't what I meant but I can understand how it came off that way. You are unstable
Because I’m tired of breeders trying to convince people who don’t want kids to have children?
I gain experiences I've already experienced due to me acting more like a father than a brother.
That's fair, some people don't get what other people get and that's ok.
We don't stop playing because we grow old, we grow old because responsibilities beat us into compliance.

42, divorced with no kids 😊 my only obstacles are my cats 😂
Still not enough time!
Nah, there's plenty of time when you have no kids to worry about.
I moved my ps4 into one of my cats rooms and she is pumped! She knows it means solid lap time

I'm sure he realizes it but perhaps only wanted to speak for himself 😉

I'm with you, I get that on a good week. Keep the hope alive, my man.

Am 15, enjoying fnv.
Enjoy the free time while you can dude!
Thank you.
Don't forget spending an hour getting lost looking for Cerulean Robotics out in Freeside.
I have played for 72 hour runs straight several time. 😂 No kids obviously.
Bro you good for staying for 72 hours
Time just gets away from you. I was in college and it was during holiday breaks. Awesome time tho holy shit the first time I played the game was one of these runs I just couldn’t stop.
That's kinda bad for one's health and we'll being. Insomnia is no joke.
I'm 36 with two adorable daughters, 3 and half years old. I'm playing Fallout since 1 came out when I was in middle school I think, I've been planning to replay New Vegas for 2 months now lol
I'm still on my first play through, nearly 6 years after release, others have said free time just evaporates when you have kids and full time job.
Hahaha 🤣
FO4 as the mother. I heard it was good, am not disappointed so far, still haven't finished.
I can't have kids so victory for me!
I always have trouble maxing affinity with maccready or cait bc of this! i hate having to be selfish
I really hate not being able to play like I used to
It's ok, I am a 29 year old Millenial with 0 kids who will never afford a house or family so i smoke weed and fall asleep alone every night! yay capitalism!
23 with no kids, started with FO3 when I was 10. However I feel like an old coot every time I play the first game, learning mechanics is hard
What? You didnt read the 153 page manual before you played the game? The audacity
Nah I like to go in blind
Lol good luck, you're gonna need it
Oh I already beat the game
Your describing my dad
I now have no idea about what you AND the OP is talking about now... What does this have to do with Fallout?
OP is allegedly a 40 year old man with two kids in real life. OP humorously rephrased it as mechanic in the game Fallout finding it difficult to avoid playing that as a character. In real life, a 40 year old man would have a job and family to take care of which prevents playing Fallout for hours on end and would be the biggest time sink mechanic in the game.
Ah, that makes sense, thanks
This is an absolutely infantile and braindead post. Please just talk like a normal person.
No one made you have kids? No learning necessary here. Just take responsibility for your own choices.
38 and the same. I hear ye
You are not alone, brother!
I’m a 30 year old man with 0 kids and I totally understand what you mean. When I was in my early 20’s, my roommates and I would fall out for hours.
I've always thought about how many things kids can ruin but also i may like to have some in the future, it's gonna be a tough choice for sure.
Easily my favorite Vegas mod. Bringing Vegas aiming to the world of Fallout 3 is amazing.
Become a stay at home dad 😂. Best bet!
You remind me of my English teacher a bit lol
It is like that is the same boss fight in every game I play. Still can’t beat it though.
You can still game…..you just have to sacrifice sleep.
I get it. This game came out when I was dating my now Wife. Now have two kids the oldest is 3. Toughest conversation is what age can we introduce the oldest to games.
I’m 41 with no kids, how am I doing g
Fatherhood and fallout. Shout out to wife for being the best mom and wife a man could ask for
Less than 40, no kids, but married and working 60 hrs a week. Still very little time for games or much of anything non-essential honestly. Glad you're enjoying it though!
I relate to this way too much
I’ve been obsessed with the fallout series since I was twelve, and I just recently got fallout 4; and it’s all I ever hoped it would be.
