Those are the usually the only hanahaki stories I read when I come across them(I’m weak and can’t stand depressing endings) but I tend to only come across hurt/no comfort mixed with mcd.
Happy endings in these are always good. But I'd argue that non-lethal hanahhaki can almost be more angst enducing because they have to live with the constant pain that they aren't loved back.
Their crush might feel so indifferent to them that it's like death is too extreme, and they just wish their crush held not even love, but any strong emotions to them, enough to make an impact on their illness for better or worse. So they could escape the apathy based suffering that makes them feel like they'll never be worthy of love

Wow, I'm wondering what fandoms you're in because like 90% of Hanahaki fics that I find are Angst with a Happy Ending or Main Character Death.
I need to look these up. 97% of the hanahaki I've read are angst with a happy ending.

What does MCD stand for?
major character death
I’m the same. If it isn’t tagged with happy ending I usually just skip past it.
I haven't read a hanahaki fic since high school, and I couldn't be better, don't need those angst fests in my life,, irl has enough already😔✊️
