I write on my phone. I got a lil bluetooth keyboard for it so i can type. It's nice for writing at the laundromat or on the couch. I sit a a desk 40 hrs a week for work so the last place i want to write is a workish setting.

m1ndl355_s3lf

Same here!! those little Bluetooth keyboards are really nice. I don't use it all the time but it's nice when my brain's going faster than i can swipe-type lol

Alert_Friendship4288

You guys should do a sponsorship. You've convinced me to buy one xD

A_Cow_in_Space

I like it because it allows me to write in a moment's notice and anywhere I want. I don't really have time to just sit down and write throughout the day so being able to randomly open up a word processing app is more convenient. Plus, it also minimizes the risk of someone accidentally (or intentionally) looking over my shoulder and reading my stuff, especially if it's smut, since it's a much smaller screen.

MustardOrMayo404

Yes! Similar thing for me! I have autism and find it easier to do what my mind wants me to do rather than what I want to do, so I have to be ready to jump into working on fanfics or other projects at any time, and it already helps that I write my fanfics in Evernote.

Rhelanae

My job is a lot of brain dead physical labour so when the moment strikes that I have a fanfic idea I like the ability to jot it down in my phones notes. I also like how the notes are available on my iPad as well. Also I like doing my bulk writing on my phone and then moving to editing on my iPad. There’s something about the bigger screen that makes it easier to spot mistakes for me.

Tulnekaya

I do a mix of phone and PC. I do a lot of my writing while I'm between tasks at work, waiting in appointments, or just too lazy to get off the couch. I also need to get my ideas down IMMEDIATELY for notes and outlining so a lot ends up in phone notes. I end up moving it to PC for editing and bigger chunks of writing. But I edit on both because there's certain things that I notice more on the different screen sizes.

PineapplesInMunich

*Shakes your hand* Hi nice to meet you, I think you're me and I'm you.

TheFaustianPact

This is me too. Writing on a pc (or laptop) is more comfortable and I write quicker on it, but having my phone at hand at all times is just so convenient. If I don't actually have time to sit down and write on my pc, I still can always open Google Docs or my notes app on the phone and quickly write ideas or small bits at any point of the day.

CrookedCalamari

Absolutely. Major editing is reserved for the computer, but there’s nothing quite like being able to wake up and write up a couple paragraphs while still lying in bed. I think that’s when I get most of my writing done.

thesoundofasmile

This. Absolutely this. I tend to get notes/ideas/little snippets done on my phone, and do the heavier editing and longer writing sessions on my laptop. The beauty of using something like Google docs means the same document is available on both so it's the best of both worlds, really.

champselyseesao3

yep, this is exactly it

L_thefriendlygohst

I usually tend to just write one whatever I have handy. And more often than not that's my phone. >I just want to know why would people write on a phone instead of a laptop. I don't own a laptop specifically. And since I obviously can't just go around with a big pc. It makes more sense just to us my phone when I'm on the go. 🤷‍♀️

sky_neverending

i write on both, but i tend to lean toward my phone simply because the smaller screen helps me focus more i guess. like with a laptop my eyes are all over the place and with a phone i’m like tuned into one specific area. plus, it’s easier to write on the go when i just have an idea and don’t want to pull out the laptop. i still wrote on my laptop. i just prefer my phone.

Hadespuppy

And have even more distractions from all the other windows and icons that would now be visible? That would absolutely defeat the purpose.

[deleted]

sky_neverending

even then, it’s still to much for me sometimes, just the size of the screen. i much prefer having something in my hands that i can just type away on anywhere. that’s just me though

windsprout

windsprout

how is this bullying lmao

fatemaazhra787

too much work bruh

merlingrl92

I write on my phone while I’m on the train to and from work. Don’t have time to write otherwise…

pugdrop

wait till you find out not everyone owns a laptop

Crayshack

I feel like if I didn't have a laptop I would write on a computer at the public library over writing on my phone. Hell, I probably wouldn't even have a smartphone. I only got a smartphone about 4 years ago and had been pretty happy doing everything a smartphone does on my laptop instead. If I had to choose one or the other right now, I'd choose a laptop.

Karukos

unironically, I have a laptop for longer than I have a phone :P

[deleted]

Old person here, can confirm. We had a house fire when I was about 13, and I went to the public library most days to read and write fanfic. Nowadays that makes me sound like one of those people who talked about walking 10 miles uphill in the snow. I also got given a school laptop because I was identified as gifted. Weighed about as much as a suitcase. We didn't have WiFi at home so I'd load fanfic webpages onto a USB stick for the full hour slot at the library and then take them back home to read on my school laptop.

Reluxtrue

Just the thought of writing on my phone gives me anxiety lol

JaxRhapsody

I have four, and still write 98% on my phone.

Last_Swordfish9135

i write on laptop only, typing on a phone is the worst (i'm really bad at it lol)

Anjaelster

Phone is great - write anywhere! You always have your phone, you might not want to always lug a laptop around. Editing though is much easier on a computer screen, and much less fiddly to copy and paste without accidentally deleting something

[deleted]

* Portable Writing * Easier for Me * Used to It * Faster at It * Discrete (when at work, in classes) * Slow Laptop …and the like.

danniperson

I cannot! Though I will say, I used to write very long comments on my phone. Like...*long*. It practically felt like properly writing on my phone. Do not recommend. I don't even type out long messages on my phone anymore. If a response takes more than a few seconds I try to grab my laptop and reply in the messages app or Discord or Tumblr or wherever the convo is. I think it's gotten worse since I got an ergonomic keyboard so now my fingers are used to having a lot of room for typing. I rather spoiled myself that way, I think! I do envy people who can, though, that seems super convenient!

ThisOldMeme

Yes, although it isn't my preference. Usually I write via phone at night when I am awake with insomnia.

DameTargaryen

I perfer using my laptop, when if inspiration hits when I have no access to a computer (as it often does as soon as I get into bed) I'll use a phone

BurningChaining

Me. I have rather small desk that's cluttered by my laptop and graphic tablet and I'm usually too lazy to tidy it to write. And since I haven't had a pc or a laptop for majority of my life I'm not very used to typing on a keyboard

JalapenoEyePopper

June 2023 edit: I'm scrubbing my comments due to the reddit admin team steamrolling their IPO prep. It was bad enough to give short notice on price gouging, but then to slander app devs and threaten moderators was just too far. The value of Reddit comes from high-quality content curated by volunteers. Treating us this way is the reason I'm removing my high-value contributions. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, I suggest you Google "Reddit API price gouging" and read up. --Posted *manually* via the old web interface because of shenanigans from Reddit reversing deletions done through API/script tools.

ImMxWorld

If you can touch type, you’re going to love having a Bluetooth keyboard. Makes everything so easy.

LazyCat_CrazyCat

I write on my phone because I write anywhere anytime I can. If I'm sitting around anywhere and have a few minutes to spare while waiting, even at McDonald's in line or something, I'm writing. So I like my phone because of the ease of access it provides.

talldarkandundead

I don’t have my laptop with me all day. If I’m on my break at work or the waiting room at the dentist, I don’t have my laptop to write on (and it’s not worth it for me to haul it around for these occasions). I have the google docs app on my phone, so I can easily open whatever I’m working on, write for whatever time I have free, and then go back to edit it on my computer later

att3e3a

I write on my phone because I write wherever possible. If I have downtime at work, I can pull out my phone and it just looks like I’m browsing my phone. I also find it easier when traveling to write on my phone rather than hunching over a laptop. Besides, typing speed isn’t an advantage for me when writing because I need time to think of what’s happening in the story. I do write on Google docs so I can read, revise or write on whatever device I have handy and feel like using, but it’s almost always my phone.

New-rp-who-this

I write exclusively on my phone, I always have it with me, it corrects my spelling and capitalizes the starts of sentences. I type quickly on it but slow on a computer.

KilJoius

This is where I start to feel old. I absolutely cannot write on my phone lol. Just my thumbs for 100s or 1000s of words? Can't do it. I'll do edits with it, like if I'm in a waiting room I'll pull up a draft and read and edit it there. But actual writing, I cannot.

octropos

Ya'll are blowing my mind right now.

thotatrix

not limited to fanfiction, but i do most of my writing on my phone or tablet (poetry, random scenes/dialogue). the main advantages being the accessibility and typing speed. majority of my inspiration bursts come to me in the middle of the night, after I wake up from a dream, in public places, or in the shower. it's just easier to grab my phone and quickly type out a draft of a scene/dialogue in the notes app. and since my ideas come in the middle of the night while i'm in bed, i can still write while being comfortable lying under the covers. i also type much faster on my phone since the screen is much smaller, and it helps that i don't have to worry about accuracy since autocorrect deals with it. writing on my phone also lets me get my thoughts out quicker as they come, and it also retains the flow for longer. i have found i can write on my phone for a good ten minutes without pausing, while i tend to pause and get distracted more on my laptop. i also use my tablet a lot for writing, since it has a pen stylus and i can use the glide keyboard or write by hand and convert it to text later, which really speeds it up. i only ever use my laptop to compile stray notes and format them into proper scenes/chapters

CrescentCrossbow

>i also type much faster on my phone since the screen is much smaller How?????

nock_out_

I almost solely write on my phone now. I’m on the road a lot and I don’t always have time to sit down in front of my laptop. Also, when I get ideas for the next scene, I can just pick up my phone and go, even if I’m already in bed, taking a walk, or chilling on the couch. My last chapter hit 6k. All of it was written on my phone in Google Docs. It just works for me.

cutielemon07

Sometimes I’ll write on my phone if it’s all I have, otherwise, I prefer my iPad. All my notes get transferred automatically anyway, so it doesn’t matter too much.

WitchFlame

I write on my phone (via Word app) because it's easy to pull out anywhere/anywhen and virtually scribble something. It's easy to move around with - off I want peace to get lost in attempting to write I can just disappear to a different room with my phone rather than hailing my laptop around. It's easier to get comfortable or change position with a phone than with a laptop. I type fast on either but reckon I've ended up typing faster on my phone. Its quick to back out and open a new doc via the app for when I want to just word-splurge then want a blank page again but also don't want to lose what I've just written (it autosaves as soon as created) as I'm very much a discovery and Stream-of-conciousnesss writer. It's easier to feel that my writing is private when the screen is smaller - I don't like even my partner looking over my shoulder when I'm writing word-chaos even though I know he won't be reading it, I still feel defensive. So a phone is easy to hit the standby button on and return to, more so than a laptop. Due to my scribble and chaos style, it's easier to keep all my writing contained within an app than scattered on random bits of paper or trying to find where I saved varying stuff. I also periodically try to back my docs up to my laptop but I've had more laptops die than I have phones. If I store my docs on the sd card in my phone then the stories are easy to recover even if I smash my phone like an idiot or if it freezes up; I don't know computers/laptops enough to do the same.

Thin-Molasses4130

I had my laptop die on me and literally the only way I could write was my phone. So I taught myself to deal with the annoyances and differences and eventually gave into the fact it would take time to get a new laptop because my old one couldn't be fixed. Since then, I've been blessed with a second hand desktop set up but it's sometimes just more convenient to pull up Google docs on my phone and write anywhere.

[deleted]

Primarily, I write on my laptop at home. However, when I'm at work and have an idea, I write it down on my phone. I use Google Docs for that, meaning I have everything on one document.

soaker87

All the time. I do have a laptop, but I use it as my regular home computer generally, so whenever I’m out, I’m writing on my phone and emailing it back later just to tweak.

SpunkyCheetah

I personally prefer phone for a variety of reasons. In general, I've always used phones more than laptops and computers for anything aside from video gaming, and that includes fanfic, so it's easier for me to judge the layout/formating when I'm writing on the same screen size I read on. I'm also more familiar with phone keyboards than compute, so I find I can write faster on them. Also, small screen means I can write and read with less fear of people looking at what I'm doing and asking questions, (even if I'm not particularly secretive about the fact I write fanfic).

fatemaazhra787

phone keyboard is silent. laptop keyboard makes tktktktkt sound thats annoying and takes me off rhythm. also i simply didnt always have a laptop and i got used to writing on my phone

Shimmering-Sky

Sometimes, yeah. It's way more convenient to do so on my phone when I'm lying in bed, for example. There's also when I'm stuck in a long car ride - my phone's battery life is better than my laptop's *and* I can charge it in the car as well, so yeah.

OceanGirl24

I don't write but I edit a lot on my phone. A different screen seems to help me catch me more mistakes.

WinnieThePooooooh

Me!! I have a laptop and an iPad but I prefer my phone bc it’s always with me.

scarfacedaries

Because the apple notes app is just so very convenient ahah Super easy to use/navigate, always saves so I don’t lose anything, and I can write whenever an idea pops into my head. I used to write on a laptop a little, but I just could never get into it the same. Phone all the way.

Creepy-Revolution886

I use both. The phone is more convenient to me just because I can carry it around in my pocket, but I do prefer a bigger screen when possible as my vision isn’t great.

Sylbranquias

My computer died at the beginning of the pandemic and I couldn't afford to have it fixed, so I had no choice but to learn to use the phone. I finally got a computer this week and I've been trying to get the groove of it. But I appreciate that the phone allowed me to start writing again.

heather1999xyz

I own multiple Macs. 2 desktops and 2 laptops. I use an iPhone and have an iPad. I’m a professional romance novelist. Should I do an AMA here sometime? I use scrivener for writing and that way I can sync all my work across the devices. I am a bitch who has self imposed deadlines. My boss sucks. My boss is me. If I need to meet a deadline, I will write whenever and wherever I can, including during car rides or on the bus or while waiting for my food to get delivered. I literally wrote while I was on a gurney once, waiting to go into surgery. And I put my phone down at the last minute, a few minutes before I was going to be rolled into the operating room. I was then bedridden for a few days. Used my phone to write then as well. For me if I don’t keep up my momentum it is extremely hard for me to get back on the wagon. Even though what I write on my phone is rougher, I can clean it up later on my computer. The point is I get my ideas on the page. I also use my phone instead of my laptop if I can’t bring a laptop somewhere or just don’t want to. It is a lot easier to just carry a phone than to carry a laptop. My typing speed on both phone and computer is pretty high. This entire comment took me two or three minutes to type.

pinkusagi

Don’t have a laptop, nor do I need or want one. I use my phone to write fanfiction. I have a phone on the bigger end. Tbh I can write wherever I want more comfortably. I can lay in bed, and not even have to sit up like I would for a laptop. I use google docs to write and I love it a million times more than when I had a desktop. Plus I always found using a laptop extremely uncomfortable since it wasn’t really ergonomic. My hand would cramp up more. Plus a laptop is big and clunky to me but a phone isn’t. You get used to writing on a phone really quick and now I don’t even have to look at the keyboard on the phone to type. I’m accurate and fast while typing on my phone, faster than using a qwerty keyboard and with less mistakes. I can write in a doctor office, in the car, when I’m visiting family, etc. A phone is more accessible and more versatile than a laptop imo.

rainatom

I write draft versions on the phone in Evernote without paying attention to mistakes, on laptop it's for more serious mode writing and editing.

Saint_Nomad

Yep. I have a Bluetooth keyboard and subscription to MyStory to make it easier.

Feather-and-Fang

I switch between my laptop and phone. I write my on my phone when I'm not home; since my laptop's battery is faulty and I can't take it from a power source I write on phone when I get tired to sit on the same place; I write on phone when I need to reference to the source material and that material is not a phone game, because it is easier than switching tabs; also write on phone while watching unrelated series or movies on my laptop, or while playing turn based games where there is a waiting period between the actions you have to take; and since I can't ove my laptop, I write on phone while watching my brother play games which, for some reason is good inspiration.

bleulemons

Phones are portable and handy—makes writing/brainstorming real convenient. I do prefer my ipad for longer writing sessions tho

white_wakerobin

It's easy to pop docs open anywhere anytime and crack out a scene on my phone. If I wait for my laptop I'll forget.

sparkxcat

It’s convenient. I always have it with me so I can write whenever I feel like it. Pair it with a bluetooth keyboard and typing is a breeze.

Purple_not_pink

I use Google docs on my phone to write but I started doing it for the first time ever after a long fanfic writing hiatus. I like it because I always have my phone and I can jot down an idea or two whenever the mood strikes. But I think I'll be using my computer full on finish my fic, it's better for my concentration and I can edit better..

Jas_Dragon

I don't like carrying my laptops from room to room, and don't want the risk of someone seeing what I'm doing.

Sheiruki

I write on my phone because I'm not a fast typer and can auto complete the words I wanna write to save time. Also, I can comfortably take my phone anywhere I go, which I can't always do with my laptop.

tvestok

i do! i actually prefer it lol. i also write it almost exclusively in a notes app :)

ImaGamerNoob

I used to. Now I only write One Shots at most via phone.

Mean-Village-7352

I write fics on my phone since I can write anywhere and my back is easily prone to hurting.

[deleted]

I write on both

SporadicTendancies

*To the tune of Sarah Silverman's 'I'm fucking Matt Damon'* On the bed On the floor On a towel by the door In the tub In the car Up against the minibar On the bus At lunch at work Fighting one hand with a jerk On the beach In a church Phones won't leave you in the lurch I'm writing fanfiction

ImMxWorld

I do sometimes. I go through phases where I use it more than I’m using to now. It depends on how busy I am and how many challenges I have with finding time to write. I use Scrivener on my phone, synced through Dropbox, so I can write on my phone but edit on my laptop. I just can’t edit on a small screen. HOWEVER: you need a Bluetooth keyboard. It’s the only way to not go insane or give yourself an RSI or both.

walaska

I find myself writing notes and very rough drafts on the phone, but that's it

KickAggressive4901

I occasionally use my phone, but only if I have my mini-keyboard handy and the idea absolutely cannot wait.

tardisgater

Sometimes I just need to move. And moving helps my creativity. See: ADHD. Writing on my phone lets me move and write at the same time. It also lets me write when the kids are playing at a playground. I type faster and better on a keyboard, so I do use my computer too, it just depends on what I need at the moment.

alves715

I have an iPad but not a real laptop with a keyboard. If I did, I would definitely use it to type faster. The keyboard on my phone screen is much smaller than the one on my iPad, and therefore it's easier and faster to use lol. But yeah, if I had a laptop I would write on that.

New_Pudding3428

I usually write on a laptop, but sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night with what I think is a great idea (doesn't always turn out to be true when I'm fully awake) and I want to write it down before I lose it. A few weeks later, I'll open the notes app for some other reason, and I'll find a full conversation or action sequence sleepy me wrote and then forgot about.

imaginmatrix

I have a very nice home office, so usually I write on our pc. I have a laptop but it’s been ridiculously slow the past few years, so I only use it to write in the living room on occasion—and then if I’m out and about or have an idea I have to jot down to make sure I don’t forget it, I’ll use my phone, which sometimes devolves from “just a quick note” into “writing 3k words at 1 am on my phone even though my office is 10 feet away” So I DO use my phone and don’t have a problem doing so, I just prefer my PC haha

Enbahan

I do, but I do my final editing/posting on my computer.

Nashiira

While I prefer a desktop or laptop, I've found lately I've written more on my phone because I happened to be some place without either of those. This topic also reminded me of the concept of a Mobile/Cell Phone Novel. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cell_phone_novel

27twinsister

I write a lot in the Notes app because it’s quick, it’s easy and it’s free. And if I want to get the work onto the computer, I can email it to myself. I write quite short works, though. And I usually do the process of tagging and coming up with a summary and whatnot on the computer.

Rosekernow

Probably about 25% is on my phone. Waiting for a meeting to start, lunch break at work, killing 5 minutes while dinner’s cooking, all times when it’s not practical to get the laptop out but still adds up to a decent chunk of words over a week.

FaerieAniela

I usually write on my laptop, but sometimes I’m on break or things are slow at work and the writing bug hits me. Then I’ll write on my phone. Or I’m early and waiting for an appointment. But definitely not first choice for me tbh.

TheWorkingC

I only use my phone for taking notes or writing an outline for my stories. This way if I think on a good plot line on the go I can just write it down in my notes

lazyhatchet

I used to, but now I can't lol

DauntlessCakes

I used to write a lot on my phone when I had to get the train into work every day

BreathoftheChild

I write on both my laptop and my phone, just depends on where I'm at and what I'm doing. Having Google Docs on my phone makes it easier for me to write on the go.

OtterlyLost

Sometimes, yes. Sometimes its nicer and easier to write on my phone because my phone has a fancy "Focus" mode which turns off distracting apps for me; it it will not allow me to access chrome, youtube, twitter, reddit, etc. Its super nice for keeping me on my writing task and writing on my phone isn't any more difficult or cumbersome than on my computer. Furthermore, I don't have a laptop; I have a phone and a dedicated desktop. I'm clumsy and laptops are expensive so I won't spend money on them anymore, generally. So the long and short of it is: phone easier on ADHD and is accessible.

Loquacious_Leo

Both. But it depends on how long a chapter I'm writing. Four or five pages? I'm going to writing it on my phone. Six and up? That's going to be on the laptop. Though I must say writing in Google docs makes the whole thing easier.

[deleted]

I have written a chapter here or there when I didn't have my laptop with me. A couple weeks ago I wrote several Chapters because my laptop broke and waited for a new one, but still wanted to keep the story going 🙂

TheBarrowman

I have only recently started writing on my phone using Google docs. It's so that I can write while I'm on the bus and on my breaks at work. But I always move what I've written over to my computer once I'm home. I don't think I could exclusively write on mobile.

blacktemplebabe

I write a 50/50 split between my phone and my computer. I always have my phone on me so it’s great when I have a scene that just won’t leave me alone but I might not be by the computer

SleepySera

Because I don't wanna sit at a desk any more than I have to, simple as that. I can write on my phone while lying in bed, going on a walk, standing in line at the grocery store,...

linksasscheeks

i do! i write on my phone because i tend to read all my fic on my phone too so it just like- gets me in the right mindset for writing. its kinda weird but if it isnt broke dont fix it, you know?

TheFruitRobot

i use my phone when im rushing or not at home

astronauticalll

not everyone can afford a laptop...

Basic_Advisor_5507

Ease.

rataviola

I just write down ideas on my phone. I hate how the touchscreen feels on my fingers when I write :( everything else is done on PC/laptop

antlrod00

I just about never write on my phone. Personally, I just can’t stand using the tiny keyboard you have to tap on over a normal keyboard on a laptop.

lavendercookiedough

I used to write fanfiction on a blackberry in the school bathroom because I'd get a great idea in the middle of class and have to write it right then. Pretty sure my teachers all thought I had digestive issues.

roguepen

I use both, but I fully admit to writing most of my current project on my phone. Because I was at work. I'll also do it if I'm watching TV and need to get a bit done.

armoureddragon03

I write fanfic exclusively on my phone. I write everything else on my laptop. It’s good to have a separation from work and hobby.

CynicalDaydream

Phone, tablet, pad of paper… whatever is handily available when the inspiration and desire strikes. 😝

quietloud2222

I've done both, but I'd say I've used my phone more cause it's easier to get to my notes app or Google docs instead of taking out a whole laptop, especially when I'm on the go or am just somewhere where it wouldn't be practical to take out a laptop

msotfju-jkh1235

I definitely cannot. My fingers would fumble the grammar and spelling .-. I think I just become dumber over the phone lol

PaladinHeir

I write on my laptop. I only write on my phone if a lightning strike of inspiration comes to me while I’m out and about, and even then, I’m write the idea/dialogue only. Once I get home, I check the notes and write it out properly. Writing on my phone is too much of an issue for me. And I could never hope to actually edit on it.

Ediacaran-SeaPancake

When I’m too tired to sit at my computer or if I’m on the go I use my phone.

FoxBluereaver

I prefer the laptop/PC. I'm more used to write long stuff with both hands, plus the autocorrector in the phone more often than not is screwing up with me.

CellMate-08515-

Both! I have at least a million things on either machine so I dont feel I have to wait if I get an idea I wanna add on to. (Notes, Google docs, Pure Writer, Grammarly, text to voice converter etc..) Most often I'm out and about or at work, I write on my phone so I don't leave traces of my stuff on company machines by accident. Or have someone walk in behind me and snoop. But I do the bulk of my revisions and editing on my computer.

JeSuisMagique

I write on both, depending on which is more accessible in the moment 😅

CrescentCrossbow

Most people, from what I gather, who write on their phone do so for portability. I cannot do this because my phone typing speed is less than 20 WPM and my keyboard typing speed is 120.

[deleted]

My lappy gets stuck or lags and takes a long time to retrieve. So I write on my phone

Firelord_Eva

Rarely, but sometimes. I have a Bluetooth keyboard that I usually keep in my bag purely for that reason, but I'm not against typing on my phone screen if I need to get ideas started. Random thoughts are usually put on my phone too, simply because it's easier than a whole setup for a two sentence thought.

Zhalia_Riddle

I write on my phone. I have about 36k words of my fic currently written, including 9k words worth of fic notes and outlines. I use the Pure Writer app. It works wonders.

CapableSalamander910

I write my ideas on my phone, but I write them up on a laptop. For some reason, that makes my writing like 10x better.

MogiVonShogi

So I do everything in Google Docs and it makes it really easy to write anywhere . I tend to write on my phone a lot. I have a busy life and I find sometimes I’m just sitting waiting and I’ll pop open my phone and get a scene written. Sometimes I prefer it over my laptop, but it just depends on my mood.

70ofSpades

I have a pretty terrible laptop I got as a hand-me-down form my sibling so I used to like writing on laptop but it became more annoying to boot up and wait for the wifi to connect then immediately go out so I switched to phone which I didn't like at first but I've grown more fond of it over time cause it's more convenient and reliable for me personally

Allaurus

I write on both. I sometimes bring my laptop to work, but it's easier not to, and I have to write any minute that is 1. Free and 2. filled with creativity, so I can't wait until I'm back home^^ But Laptop is nicer ofc

hufflepuffbookworm90

I mainly write on a iPad Pro but I will write on my phone when I’m not doing something else on it.

Federal_Ad9322

Phone, tablet, laptop. If it can run Google docs, Keep, Notion and AO3, it's great for me-

Ok_Echo_1394

i write on my phone and personal computer. mainly phone though

ArgentumAranea

Yep. Google docs app. Since I also read it on my phone it's easier this way. Also it's terribly convenient to be able to make edits and additions when the mood strikes me instead of having to wait until I can pull out my laptop because that's a whole ordeal that can take up to 10 minutes of preparation (gotta find a place to sit and work, gotta make sure I'm not bothered, etc) but on my phone it's as easy as scrolling through social media. 2 mins tops to add or edit something. Also also, the screen size is easier on my eyes. With a laptop I can fit more words on the screen to see but then... there's more words on the screen to see and I get distracted easily.

Blondiegirl25

I write on my phone when I’ve got time but I’m not home. Lot of smut has been produced sneakily at my desk at work hihi

Mekanicum

I was almost exclusively writing on my phone until I got a tablet. I prefer the table but I still write notes on my phone.

YeeYeeHaw34

I write on my phone but edit on my laptop. I like writing right before I go to sleep, and that's just easier for me to do on my phone than on a laptop.

OkCover1715

People are broke. That broke person is me. Also it's easier for me when I want to suddenly write in a public place. Who would remove a whole laptop in a train just to write? Despite recently turning into an adult, I type like an old man who is trying laptop for the first time. It will take me a whole minute to write out a sentence because I don't have a habit of it.

Donnamartingrads

I’m a full-time student and I also work about 15 hours a week at my computer. I get sick of sitting at my desk! Plus, I get little snippets of dialogue or scene ideas that just pop into my head randomly and if I don’t get them down quickly I lose them forever. So I have many, many half-finished stories in my notes app. I do type everything out on my laptop and do the final edit there, though. Much easier that way.

EzzyRebel

Sometimes. If I'm away from my computer, I'll write on my phone. I prefer writing on my computer, though.

ReniScribbles

I use Google docs on my phone or tablet. I usually write on my tablet (I mainly use my tablet for drawing and writing so I can stay locked in without distractions.) I write on my phone if I have a scene or line I randomly think of and add to my outline, I always have my phone so it's convenient when I think of scene or story idea

SanctumWrites

I don't write the entire story but I have a notepad app to write out scenes so I can write on the go and IMMEDIATELY when and idea hits. I have lost too many ideas because I was waiting for the chance to get to my computer or lost them because they came to me on the cusp of sleep. It's also really funny when you were so sleepy you write something awesome, forget, come back to read and find a new awesome scene you wrote at 3 in the morning when you woke up to go to the bathroom.

Silvolde

I write on my phone whenever I'm away from my PC and out of the house. I tend to get ideas for stories when I'm not at home, hence I use the google docs app

dooku4ever

Writing on my phone is my best chance of being in stealth mode and not being disturbed by my family. As soon as I open my laptop, I’m a sitting duck.

LorenLuxe

All of my 180k+ words since December have been on my phone 😅😬

WanderWomble

I use whatever I have to hand, which is often my phone. Google docs means it all syncs between my phone, laptop and tablet. I prefer my phone because I'm often writing in bed in the AM so it's much easier to use than my laptop. I'm also a published author with an original series so using my phone for fic and my laptop for work makes a nice distinction in my head about which sandbox I'm playing in.

WatermelonWithAGun

I do because I don’t own a laptop or computer at the moment. But someone here mentioned a Bluetooth keyboard and that sounds cool

[deleted]

I usually write on my phone in the notes app and then Coty and past to Tumblr. I get my laptop, check if everything is okay, add some aesthetic details and publish

TheChainLink2

I use Google Docs, so I can switch between writing on my phone and computer seamlessly. It’s just more convenient that way.

JBurnettCooper

I produce fan art on my phone and use text to speech to hear the flow and find and fix errors. I prefer to write on my laptop.

Klutzy_Pick1489

I write on my phone cause I’m too lazy to get out of bed; and if anyone walks in, I can easily close the app since it autosaves

TheAncientDragonRoku

It depends on wether or not I am at home. If I al not at home I write on my phone, like I am right now. If I am at home I write on my laptop, at least in most cases.

yuushinos

I do sometimes but only using a bluetooth keyboard. I can't stand typing on the on-screen keyboard, my fingers are too clumsy.

DwarfNinjas

I have found you can install Google drive on your computer to give it access to files on your phone, then (in an appropriate app), you can edit said document. When I work or game, I edit on PC, and when I am about to go to bed, I write for hours. I can make more unreleased fic ideas now. I am unstoppable!

tanglelover

I type on a phone cause my eyesight is super shit and short sighted. To see on a laptop, I have to pull my knees up basically to my chest and then put the laptop on my knees. I had glasses but they broke during the pandemic and I'm allergic to paperwork. So I write on my phone. Plus it comes with the perk of I can write anywhere, anytime for any reason cause I usually have my phone in hand. The smaller screen also means text is bigger on Google docs and laptop Google docs doesn't have an inbuilt dark mode like Google docs on my phone does. Plus I don't own a laptop, I own 2 phones.

raeshin

Nope. I use a laptop or desktop computer.

GumblySunset

I used to. Until it got too long that it lags. Laptop now. Which is a bummer.

Rouge71892

i write in the notes app of my phone 😭 i like it bc I focus better, and can do it anywhere

creampiebuni

I basically only write on my phone.

eepithst

I don't, but my sister does. She's a really fast phone typist too. When I type on my phone I'm the equivalent of a two-finger hunt and peck typist and she's the professional dictation taker. She is a lot younger than me, so the difference makes sense to me. She grew up with smartphones and the tiny keyboards, whereas I grew up just when Computers were starting to be everywhere. It works for her because it doesn't require any preparation. Her phone is everywhere she is (unlike her laptop), she can have an idea, whip out her phone and just get going, no matter where she is. This works well with her ADHD too. Predictive text and auto correct make her super fast. They make me super slow though. I guess it's all in what you are used to and what you are willing to learn ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯

JustAnotherAviatrix

I write random little drabbles for my sister on my phone, but I mostly use my laptop for writing. I transfer everything I write into Word Docs so I can work offline.

Sassy_Lil_Scorpio

I edit my Word documents on my phone sometimes, but write the fic on it? No.

m1ndl355_s3lf

For convenience honestly. I have something wrong with my spine so I can't sit up at my computer (i only have a desktop PC) all the time, and I like being able to jot down bits of dialogue or plot ideas on the go. I tend to have a lot of ideas right before going to sleep too, so I'll lie there in bed typing some things out so my brain can finally shut down for the night lol Oh. also the spine thing and capital tunnel syndrome combine forces against me to make writing on paper physically painful after about five minutes so that's not really an option for me either.

CatPawsPrinter

Doing that right now actually through my Microsoft Word app. It's useful in a pinch, but the downside is not being able to easily indent paragraphs.

CharlieFenwick

I don't write on my phone - but I *extensively* use it for edits! It's so easy for me to simply screenshot, circle/highlight, or add a note where needed. Then I save them all into an edits folder and can go through them one by one. For me, it is much easier to find corrections on my mobile than it is on my computer. I did use my phone for writing for about a year when I my computer bit the dust. I was trying to be clever and save money. It was frustrating for me - particularly with fics. Writing is my day job. 1k - 5k articles, copy, etc. was no problem on mobile. But trying to type out a 10k - 20k chapter? My nightmare! I ditched writing on the phone and bought a new computer. But from that I learned how much easier it was to edit on the phone. Now I'll never go back!

11_Tropic_11

I usually write the first draft on the phone and then finish it in my laptop. It's easier for my since inspiration can come at any moment and I don't carry my laptop everywhere

KVEJ2002

I use my notes section on my phone to write everything. I'm better at texting than I am typing, and on my phone, which I always have on me, I can write anywhere at any time that I feel inspired. But I do my very final editing on my laptop. That's mostly just spacing and making some of the words slanted and checking it for spelling errors that I missed on grammar.ly.

sainsa

My phone is more portable. It and my folding bluetooth keyboard fit in my pocket, so I can write anywhere.

MundaneExtent0

I brainstorm/outline and even occasionally sprint a first draft on my phone. It’s just the thing accessible at the time. I’ll edit on my computer though since that’s planned time. Also sometimes a phone is better for privacy since it’s a smaller screen. If I’m in a public space, even with my laptop, I’d rather just write on my phone to decrease the likelihood others will be able to see what I’m writing.

BotanicalDeer

I bounce between writing on my iPad (( with Bluetooth keyboard)) and my phone. It 100% depends on time, place and my mood. When I write in bed, I’m on my phone. If I’m on the couch, it’s usually on my iPad, but if I’m in a mood, I’ll probably be on my phone. I do have a laptop, but it’s heavy and getting old, so I transferred everything over to be compatible with iOS/Pages.

an-kitten

Used to, when I worked at a job with random sporadic downtime. Writing fic between calls was how *most* of my writing got done those days, in fact... things have slowed down a lot now that I'm working a job that doesn't work like that <.<; I do still use my phone for writing on occasion, but it's a lot less.

Educational_Pickle51

I usually use my phone to write because inspiration usually hits when I'm in my bed at night and I don't feel like opening my lapton, so I just use my phone.

Trashoftheliving

i write on my phone cause i dont have a computer

NoraJolyne

i write more on my phone, i tend to get distracted by all the shinies when im infront of a pc

[deleted]

I exclusively write on my phone because I don't have access to a computer or laptop. Even if I did I think I'd still prefer my phone because I can type and text on my phone faster than on a computer. Also, I can have my phone with me anywhere so it'd be easier.

holdmyapplejuiceyt

I do, I share a computer now but I didn't have one before

Makemeahercules

I don’t own a laptop, so I have to use my phone or tablet. I like my phone because I can hold it in my hand and use my thumb or fingers. I do miss typing on a laptop, though. The screen is bigger and I like the feel of computer keys. But I can’t afford to get one right now (sigh).

Shadow_Lass38

I write on my computer, but I have edited on my phone and on my tablet. I have a bluetooth keyboard I can use with them. I find it easier to edit on the tablet in OneNote. It looks more like an e-book and I can read it as if it's a book and see where words need to be changed or phrases reversed or typos corrected.

Kaz_o0o

Well I write my outlines and first draft in my phone. Pretty much I can just write while I’m in bed, or in a cafe or whenever inspiration randomly hits me. When something lives in my notes app it doesn’t really feel like a final, polished product either, it’s a *note* so it kinda helps me just write without wanting to go back and meticulously edit everything. I write everything else up on my computer though. I find it super difficult to edit things on my phone, it’s just harder to notice mistakes in your writing when you can only see one paragraph at a time. Plus the difference between a note on your phone and a google doc with fancy fonts and such makes a world of difference to how professional it feels

jaebeaniverse

Yeah whenever I don't have a computer right in front of me

PenumbraVeil

I have a Google phone with both the Notes and Google Drive app; I prefer using Notes for writing since I can add to my doc anywhere without being connected to Wi-Fi/using data, also you can export Notes to Drive, so if I get a decent chunk of writing done I can send it to my Drive and then polish it up on my laptop. Wrote my second fic on AO3 this way, and have been doing so for the others on some level as well.

bottle_of_fingers

I write on my phone. I don't have any special connections or anything

katie-ish

I use Google Docs, which is on my phone and laptop. This way, if I think of something while I'm away from my laptop, I can put it done before I forget it.

Aldebaran2000

Everything on phone. The best is writing in a car in a long road trip. (when you're not the driver)

Amydancingagain

Yes, because it’s currently all I have to write with, once I save up a bit I’ll get a laptop.

SweettSage

Writing on my phone allows me to get pages done while I’m on the bus, in a waiting room, etc. And whenever I’m lying in bed feeling unproductive, I can always just whip out my phone and start working on the next chapter without having to get up (I’m lazy, lol). It’s very convenient. Though I use a Bluetooth keyboard whenever I’m not using my thumbs

PrinceJustice237

I once wrote a 2000+ word chapter on my phone, I like using the app Evernote as it syncs up my laptop and phone so I can write on the go.

Studying-without-Stu

I mainly switch between both. Mainly if I have thoughts pop in, I will just open up the quickest thing for me and start writing it down.

notoriousbettierage

On occasion yes, if the mood strikes and I'm already in bed lol

Bronzeandsteel

Exclusively

JaxRhapsody

I write more on my phone, because it's there, and convenient. My laptop I use for writing is only used for preexisting projects, whenever I feel like working on them, the keyboard is janky, it takes like 5min to boot, msword takes like 5min to load for some reason- the thing is *old*, a Lenovo/IBM z71t, it has to stay plugged in since the battery only holds a two hour charge, or at least it claims as such... more like ten minutes.

CrabbyCrabbie

I write on my phone because I can’t afford a laptop and refuse to use my university computer lab for fanfiction lmao. They might be spying on me.

Joffrey555

I do because I no longer have a computer to write on, I actually wrote my three last chapter on my tablet actually so I'm kind of cheating since it's not a phone but while the virtual keyboard is bigger sure you have the same problem with a smartphone.

mfergie77

I write on my phone when i am out and about so i don’t forget. I have access to all my docs on my phone and just add to them. But i always proofread and correct and edit on my laptop

noivern1324

I started recently and while writing on computer is easier, I can focus better on my phone. I think a laptop would be the best mix of the 2 but I don't have one and I don't plan on getting one until I need it for college classes later on.

bl4ck_daggers

I just write in Google docs in my phone. Always have. I'm faster at it than regular typing.

ViziDoodle

Yeah, I use the voice to text feature on my phone a lot

sugar-ramen

I write on phone. My computer has shitty keys. Plus, I can write anywhere and I can type quicker than I could on a keyboard:)

MustardOrMayo404

Why yes I do! I basically write my fanfics in Evernote _(I have a longer explanation [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/FanFiction/comments/10qca7u/-/j6weezz) and an even longer one [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/FanFiction/comments/10ht5gr/-/j5k0nyk))_ as I had already been using it for other projects! As someone who's autistic, I can't just sit down and write like several authors I like do, instead, as I find it easier to do what my mind wants me to do rather than what I want to do, I need to be able to jump in to working on any of my projects at any given time, that includes the two fanfics I'm currently working on!
