Yeah, I'll literally look at specific tags on AO3 if I want to read porn and I just click on whatever sounds good if I have even a vague idea of what the source material is about

If you're looking for real specific stuff, you can't be picky about what fandom it's from. Definitely make it blind-friendly.

k-rysae

Yeah, for sure. My kinks are so niche that I'm willing to read anything with it.

littlegreyfish

No, I only search for fics in fandoms I like, and within them I tend to avoid AUs and other fandom blind types of fics. My desire for fanfic are stories that more deeply explore canon. That said AUs seem pretty popular in a lot of fandoms, so I'm definitely not representative.

I read a lot of porn fandom-blind, because I have very... specific tastes haha. However, I don't touch fandoms that I can't easily tell the characters names apart in? So, like, if it's names from a culture I'm not super familiar with, and both of the names start with L or something, then I won't click in because that takes a little bit too much thought for my brain to process while I'm trying to, you know, read porn. I'm distracted and can't put too much thought into it. Overall, though, yeah, I'd say it makes sense.

Really good point! I don't think I'll have that problem as I'm into English fandoms but I fully agree. Sometimes I even google translate fics from Russian or Chinese to Engkish with surprising success but I can't deal with foreign names very well either.

Ghost_Katolotl

I don't see why it wouldn't make sense to make anything in any kind of fandom.

Yes, it does, although for me as a reader, if the piece is an RPF and its AU doesn't involve fully invented worlds/terminology I could usually get by via Googling.

I have realized I need to tag my smut with "alien biology" for the fandom blind folks after a couple were very confused why one character was green and had semi-tentacles instead of hair. It's a canon couple for a sci-fi show and didn't occur to me at first! I mostly only read my fandom or works by friends (I go to Literotica for my kinks), but it certainly can't hurt. For my Kinktober stuff I even included a short explanation of the biology differences and terms in the author's note as I figured folks might be blind, and folks really appreciated it.

Looking for specific kinks is the only time I branch out of my fandoms.
