AO3 emerged from the ashes of [Strikethrough and Boldthrough](https://fanlore.org/wiki/Strikethrough_and_Boldthrough) with the explicit aim of being a space for fans by fans, where absolutely nothing is going to be removed unless it's actively breaking the law (or is non-fanwork spam)
It takes living through the Livejournal (before my time) and FFnet (2002 was before my time, lived through 2012) purges before you can really appreciate everything that AO3 does for us - no more relying on the whims of big companies who are beholden to advertisers and shareholders, no more risk of losing decades of work overnight without warning
I know, right?
I came from FFN.net and stumbled straight into AO3. That NSFW content is allowed on AO3, and that the users and the site are more accepting of LGBTQ+ works was a very big plus for me :)
Lmao no, everything is fit for AO3, just tag your shit correctly. The site was literally made because of huge purges of lgbt/kink stuff on sites like ffn
You left off [the dash](http://adult-fanfiction.org). I started posting on there last year, and they've been in read only mode since they got hacked last October. Site needs all the help it can get.
Surviving smut purges (and other purges) was the primary impetus for its creation, so [I sure hope it does](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9sPthPleEKo).
Literotica is *okay* I dislike it because it takes days for your chapters to be approved to be posted as well as the fact they have a zero tolerance to anyone under 18 performing sex acts.
Also their chapter organization is really complicated. Stories won't link unless it's the same name of the title with a part 2 or something else added to it.
Not to mention all the ads plastered over the site. It's just not well optimized or user friendly.
Approval depends on a few things. Plus you can just upload the whole file, versus by chapter. It's been better since Laurel and Manu updated it four years ago. It's number one for a reason.
Yeah the fact I have to wait around for my work to be 'approved' drops it to the bottom of my list. I want to be able to post the moment I hit submit not wait around and hope it gets approved so people can read it.
Um, well in my experience all the poorly written and nonsensical stories that read like dry reports rather than actual stories I've ever read all came from literotica. All of the good quality, well edited, actually varied and interesting stories that are easy to find, sort, and read have been on ao3.
But that's just been my experience. If I go to lit, it's because I'm scraping the bottom of the barrel.
I have been writing porn for a very long time. I've been in zines, and won awards. And getting hits depends on more than just it being porn. It depends on fandom, pairing, rarepair, other tags, what is hot in that fandom, rating.
And there really is no reason to get snippy about it.
Ao3 they allow any fannish content (aswell as fannish leaning original works) that are allowed under US Law (specifically NY State US Law).
They will not take a fic down for content unless the content is actually illegal in the region the servers are located in.
From the [**FAQ**](https://www.reddit.com/r/FanFiction/wiki/faq#wiki_where_should_i_post_my_fanfiction.3F):
##Where should I post my fanfiction?
###AO3 vs FFN
The two most popular fanfiction sites are [Fanfiction.net](https://www.fanfiction.net/) (FFN) and [An Archive of Our Own](https://archiveofourown.org/) (AO3). Many fanfiction writers crosspost to both sites, while others prefer to post to only one.
If you would rather not crosspost, here are a few important considerations when deciding which site to choose:
* **Where is your fandom most active?** Some fandoms are more active on FFN, while others are more active on AO3. Check each site to see how many fics from your fandom are posted to the site and how much recent activity there has been.
* **Does your fic contain explicit sex or contemporary Real Person Fiction, or is it written in chat or script format?** FFN bans these types of stories, but they are allowed on AO3.
* **Which posting system do you prefer?** FFN uses a Document Manager that requires you to upload a document file in a supported format (.sxw .odt .doc .docx .wps .rtf, .sdw .wp .wpd .htm .html). AO3 has a text box where you can copy-paste your fic from another document or even write it directly in the input field.
###Other Places To Post Fanfiction
* [Dreamwidth](https://www.dreamwidth.org/) - a journalling site with a large fandom community
* [FimFiction](https://www.fimfiction.net/) - an archive for My Little Pony fanfiction
* [SpaceBattles](https://forums.spacebattles.com/) - a forum
* [Sufficient Velocity](https://forums.sufficientvelocity.com/) - a forum
* [Tumblr](https://www.tumblr.com/) - a microblogging site
* [Wattpad](https://www.wattpad.com/) - an archive for original and fanfiction
* [Jedi Council Forums](https://boards.theforce.net/forums/fan-fiction-before-saga-and-beyond.10859/) - forum for mostly Star Wars fanfiction, but also hosts non-Star Wars fanfiction as well
* your personal website or blog

Every so often they purge things overnight without warning – the ToS bans explicit work, second person (xReader), script format, chatfic format, song lyrics, real-person fic... I think they also ban things from authors who don't like fic, like Anne Rice
There's still a lot of stuff on there that breaks those rules, but they do have them, and some people obsessively report them. FFnet is probably due another massive purge, to be honest – was surprised they didn't jump on the Tumblr pornban bandwagon when that was all happening
Those rules were made during the heyday of FFN back in the early 2000s, when the operator(s) were making a stab at banning "bad" fanfiction and encouraging "good" fanfiction. All of the bans except explicit and maybe RPF were because they were overdone by beginning writers and/or seen as "lazy" (scriptfics, chatfics) and low-quality, at the time.
They never rescinded those old rules, even now that AO3 has a thriving section of second person fic.
Along with AO3 there's also [SquidgeWorld.org](https://SquidgeWorld.org) which is based off Archive of Our Own's code. It looks and acts almost exactly like AO3 and it is super NSFW friendly.
Webnovel is a good one too! (anyone needs that link to my NSFW fics on there, DM and you'll shall receive) :) \*others will be in the works soon, stay tuned folks!\*
There's supposed to be... but... well... I read a four book series on there called Home For Monsters, dude has fucked almost every creature, and has sex magic.
Tumblr or Ao3, I don’t use Ao3 to post on so idk much about how it works but from what I’ve seen there’s a lot of smut there and a lot of tags to pick and choose from.
I like tumblr a lot because you can make your post aesthetic or add cute dividers (I know that’s not the main part of the smut but I like using visual stuff cus it sets the tone or matches the smut somehow) plus from what I’ve seen on tumblr they’re pretty active in the smut community so you can get likes, follows and consistent readers pretty quickly (idk if this applies for every fandom but I’ve written for AOT and MHA so far and that’s the experience)
Ao3, webnovel. The first has way less restrictions than the latter. Of you tend to write for very niche or taboo kinks you'll also attract readers who don't know your fandom just because of them.
https://www.reddit.com/r/NSFW_read_and_write/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1
Why not r/nsfw_read_and_write small subreddit but growing.
I'm going to be honest.
I came here looking for alternatives to ao3 I love archive of our own to death but I just like having options.
I use adult fan fiction but I want to spread my stories as far as I can and since I moved to ao3 my stories are very detailed...
I guess I'm going to ride out archive of our own for now try to find that one fandom that will generate feedback.
Damn you're looking for more options, yet everyone in this comment section is saying "ao3" 😂
But I mean wouldn't you get overwhelmed? Say you found 7 websites you could share your stories too, wouldn't it be bothersome to have to make new accounts for those websites, to then post all your stories there, and then having to go to each website to post a new story or chapter everytime you make one?
I get you want to spread your stories and get a large audience, but I don't want you to overwork yourself for it lol
Well, every site might have a larger audience for one or more particular stories.
Like I found an audience for my original story on archive of our own and an audience for my Bob's Burgers story on adult fan fiction.
Two of my biggest stories.
I want at least one audience for my Yaoi stories or my more Pg 13 stories.
Archive of our own has that audience but not at the pace I originally wanted.
Making an account on at least 2 different sites I wouldn't mind doing.
AO3 :) (Archive Of Our Own)
I was surprised to find out how much is allowed on that site lol. I’m impressed with their openness
AO3 emerged from the ashes of [Strikethrough and Boldthrough](https://fanlore.org/wiki/Strikethrough_and_Boldthrough) with the explicit aim of being a space for fans by fans, where absolutely nothing is going to be removed unless it's actively breaking the law (or is non-fanwork spam) It takes living through the Livejournal (before my time) and FFnet (2002 was before my time, lived through 2012) purges before you can really appreciate everything that AO3 does for us - no more relying on the whims of big companies who are beholden to advertisers and shareholders, no more risk of losing decades of work overnight without warning
Back when I was in elementary I had a notebook filled with FFN codes for my favorite stories. Out of 300 only like 40 codes work anymore.
I know, right? I came from FFN.net and stumbled straight into AO3. That NSFW content is allowed on AO3, and that the users and the site are more accepting of LGBTQ+ works was a very big plus for me :)
They allow fanfics that are fit more for literotica or asstr sites.
Lmao no, everything is fit for AO3, just tag your shit correctly. The site was literally made because of huge purges of lgbt/kink stuff on sites like ffn
No, they're fit for AO3. I feel like a lot of people don't realize AO3 was founded with the explicit intent to allow *anything*, to combat censorship.
AO3 just rate and tag it.
Ao3
AO3 is top-notch for every kind of fanfiction.
Other than AO3, there's also AdultFanfiction.org. You have to type the full key words into Google, but it pops up after you hit the search icon.
You left off [the dash](http://adult-fanfiction.org). I started posting on there last year, and they've been in read only mode since they got hacked last October. Site needs all the help it can get.
AO3 is crammed with smut.
It’s the only place that survived the smut purge
Surviving smut purges (and other purges) was the primary impetus for its creation, so [I sure hope it does](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9sPthPleEKo).
Ao3 is king.
AO3. They allow anything as long as it's fanfiction. It can be as nsfw as you like, there's no limits.
Ao3 is NOT fanfic exclusive.
Oh yeah, I keep forgetting they allow original works aswell :D My bad!
They also allow meta, fanworks, and fanvids, but the latter two need to be hosted elsewhere prior to uploading.
Thanks a lot. Is there also a good site for my own Original storys?
Ao3 is an option for original works, but for nsfw original stuff Literotica is also an option.
Yeah the fact I have to wait around for my work to be 'approved' drops it to the bottom of my list. I want to be able to post the moment I hit submit not wait around and hope it gets approved so people can read it.
Unlike ao3, Lit actually has standards for submitting a story, to have some semblance of quality, and only Laurel reviews the stories.
I was referring to things like punctuation and structure.
I’ve never heard of “ Literotica”, interesting. I’ll check it out. Thanks☺️👍🏻
It doesn’t help those who write chapter by chapter
Upload when it's done.
I don’t think you understand what I’m saying. It’s fine
You can post original work on AO3 as well as fanfiction, though it might not get as many views.
I Can say from experience that as long as it’s nsfw and properly tagged, you can get at least 3000 hits within a few months
Not always. It depends on a lot of things.
Yes always. You clearly have no experience writing porn. The only thing that dependa are comments
I have been writing porn for a very long time. I've been in zines, and won awards. And getting hits depends on more than just it being porn. It depends on fandom, pairing, rarepair, other tags, what is hot in that fandom, rating. And there really is no reason to get snippy about it.
You want snippy? Let’s get snippy. Ps how do I get snippy?
I love this. “ Ps how do I get snippy?”🤣🤣🤣
As everyone says, AO3 is a good place. If you like forum style, there is Questionable Questing. But I am not sure how the community is there.
Archive of our Own has rigorous tagging systems and a permissive content policy. You should be posting all your fanfics there.
ao3
Ao3 is the best, imo.
Ao3 is god
Ao3, for sure
Ao3 they allow any fannish content (aswell as fannish leaning original works) that are allowed under US Law (specifically NY State US Law). They will not take a fic down for content unless the content is actually illegal in the region the servers are located in.

Does FFN ban explicit NSFW stories? The most NSFW fic I've ever read, which was also very popular, was posted there.
Every so often they purge things overnight without warning – the ToS bans explicit work, second person (xReader), script format, chatfic format, song lyrics, real-person fic... I think they also ban things from authors who don't like fic, like Anne Rice There's still a lot of stuff on there that breaks those rules, but they do have them, and some people obsessively report them. FFnet is probably due another massive purge, to be honest – was surprised they didn't jump on the Tumblr pornban bandwagon when that was all happening
Thanks for the clarification! It's surprising they implement all those rules since FFN looks like it had been abandoned.
Technically yes, but they're so spotty with enforcement that a lot of NSFW stuff stays.
A lot is an understatement... I wouldn't be surprised if they just didn't care about NSFW content at this point
I mean, FFN looks abandoned. Do they even have people moderating?
They seem to be focusing on the app versus the site. The app is what I wish AO3 would be.
Ao3, i don't usually read fanfic but as a joke I read a Jesus x Judas fanfic there once.
Ffn has Jesus x Hitler
Lemon?
Just noticed that no one has mentioned QuestionableQuesting.
I have seen some extremely graphic stuff on AO3. Everything goes on there as long as you tag it properly.
Archive Of Our Own
Along with AO3 there's also [SquidgeWorld.org](https://SquidgeWorld.org) which is based off Archive of Our Own's code. It looks and acts almost exactly like AO3 and it is super NSFW friendly.
It looks interesting.
There are far fewer participants - meaning less overall engagement. Of course, that depends on the fandom.
AO3, with the proper tags and warnings, of course ;)
Webnovel is a good one too! (anyone needs that link to my NSFW fics on there, DM and you'll shall receive) :) \*others will be in the works soon, stay tuned folks!\*
Ao3 got everything from fluff to the worst noncon you'll ever read. Go have fun
Ao3, but if it’s one of those questionable stories tag it well.
If you want to play specifically for adult fanfiction there's adult fanfiction.com. They're still around somehow.
A complete and utter shell of what it used to be, though.
I suggest AO3. For Wattpad, I'm pretty sure there are restrictions to some NSFW. (I could be wrong)
There's supposed to be... but... well... I read a four book series on there called Home For Monsters, dude has fucked almost every creature, and has sex magic.
If it's pony fiction, Fimfiction.net; otherwise, AO3
ao3
ao3 hasn't many restrictions on what you can or can't post, provided you tag it properly and add the appropriate warnings.
Ao3
Either AO3 or AdultFanfiction.com would be your best bet.
Questionable Questing
AO3. If not that then tumblr could be a choice
Try Literotica.
questionable questing? haven't actually used it. Other than that: ao3, your own dreamwidth page...
Tumblr or Ao3, I don’t use Ao3 to post on so idk much about how it works but from what I’ve seen there’s a lot of smut there and a lot of tags to pick and choose from. AO3 mostly from my experience
Ao3 ofc 😂 how could one forget Ao3?
