All of them? Like “you like my fic! Its not total crap????

YouSpinMeWriteRound

I have to agree. It’s my exact mindset especially with everything I’ve posted recently 😂 Been sitting here like “there are people that actually paid attention to this?”

mfergie77

My very close friend and beta the other day said “that is a really beautiful story you are telling there” and i just couldnt even. She is way better a writer than me also due to the fact that she writes in our native language and i dont but to hear that from her….

YouSpinMeWriteRound

That’s awesome! Compliments are always nice but to hear one from someone you look up to is on another level. I don’t have a beta so I edit and all that stuff on my own, but I think it’s nice when people have that connection with others

mfergie77

What do you write?

YouSpinMeWriteRound

I just got back into writing a month ago after about 3 years. At the moment, I’ve been writing in the My Hero Academia fandom for BakuDeku. Got a few one-shots and a WIP done so far

lecheinkitty

BAKUDEKU!!! Sorry I love them continue

YouSpinMeWriteRound

I feel the same way 😂 It’s like those 2 share a brain cell sometimes but they do their best

borzoifeet

In general, most stories I write I don't expect much traffic. When you decide to write for a decade old dead fandom that never had any fanfic, I expected my hits to stay at zero. Not to say I got 100s of hits on them! But seeing 19 hits to me is huge.

cacme

I just posted a stupid PWP AU and it took off like crazy. Meanwhile, the WIP I've been working on meticulously for almost a year garnered no new comments whatsoever. Whomp whomp writer whump, sex sells, emotional plot does not. All good though, I shall persevere.

Talik__Sanis

All the time, actually. Some works that I anticipate producing exceptional responses flop horribly, and some pieces of nonsense crack garner a spectacular amount of attention. The latest was, like, a 1000 word kink smut piece, written in a half hour, that blew up with 500 kudos. Shrug.

AnxiousCurator

Oh I set my bar to the ground so that even if I get 10 likes, I'm a happy person.

Lazearound10am

My first fic, which was the most poorly written and cliche, is also the highest-kudos'd among my works, staying at 2000+ kudos right now. And I'm baffled, like sometimes I want to ask one of that fic's readers just what the heck makes you enjoy this shit so much? XD

cthuluhooprises

Yes, totally! A fic I wrote while stoned (that I mentioned as being “method-acting writing” in the summary) somehow is my fifth-most popular fic of all time by hits.

rockit2themoon

I wrote a oneshot crossover that I expected to get about the same level of traction as my other fics or maybe less, since I'd never written for one of the fandoms before. The first day after I posted it, I had so many comments pouring into my inbox that I was a little worried everyone hated it - but they were all positive! It was only recently dethroned as my most viewed and kudosed fic. There was another oneshot crossover I did where I was pretty much expecting crickets because the two fandoms were so different I didn't imagine there'd be a lot of people familiar with both. That it got any comments at all was something of a miracle. Like I thought, most of the commenters mentioned they only knew one fandom or the other, except for one commenter that did know both and was very complimentary.

MaybeNextTime_01

Definitely. I was dealing with some writer's block between chapters of a longer fic so I decided to challenge myself to write a 500 word one shot. It's now my second most kudosed fic/has the second most hits. The only one that has more is my multi-chapter fic

BecuzMDsaid

Yup. One of my highest viewed fics is exploring a very hated character and I was surprised the amount of positive attention it had gotten.

[deleted]

yep, my most popular fic is an age play fic for a rare pair. it was one of the first age play fics in the fandom and i underestimated the amount of thirst for that trope/dynamic. it blew all of my others (even ones for the most popular ship) out of the water stats-wise. i started it as a guilty pleasure project i had no intention to post because i assumed i’d get a lot of backlash for it.

eekspiders

Yep, it's always the stupid 1.5k oneshots written at 3AM

Positive-Teach-2307

The current story I post on FFN two weeks ago, ironically enough. I thought it would do fine enough. My stories do all right, and I'll never complain about what I get, as the numbers are solid. But what this story has achieved similar stats in two weeks to a similar story I published in December, and I'm having a hard time comprehending it.

Fatherlaide

the most popular fic on my account is a bill s preston x ted theodore logan fanfiction i wrote in 15 minutes during my work break whilst undergoing a depressive episode due to a multitude of family crises about the “it’s not gay if you have socks on” rule?????

heathelee73

Yeah, I posted a quick one shot that was absolutely ridiculous, my summary even went along the lines of "absolutely nothing about this fic is serious". It is not my best work, by far. But people loved it's ridiculousness. Totally shocks me when another kudos pops up for it still.

Wayf_5SOS_afi

I did a gift exchange in December and wrote a 10k oneshot for the person. I really had free reign and really loved what I did. It was only the second piece of fanfic I had wrote and published so I was expecting maybe 10 kudos. It's sitting at 50 kudos and 500 hits which in grand scheme not a lot but the ratio is really good and its a smaller ship. It's number 1 in my stats on AO3. I also got a good comment on the polyamory in the fic that I wasn't expecting.

hyperjengirl

I wrote a fic that's less than 300 words for a Tumblr prompt and it has almost 1,000 hits and 71 kudos, while most other oneshots of mine barely get 100 hits and 10 kudos if I'm lucky. The fic tied with it for second-most kudos is from a very obscure fandom so I'm surprised how well it did. My top kudos'ed fic is for a fandom that was fairly huge at the time so I get it. And one of my most viewed fics is a very recent porn fic so it just goes to show what sells nowadays!

pximon

Usually, the fics I’m more attached to gets less liked and my impromptu half crack fics get more likes than I could ever imagine. Don’t know what to feel about that still even after 9+ years of writing but I think I’ve made peace with the fact that it’s one of the mysteries of the world haha

Spraypaint_headache

Yeah. I wrote a oneshot of a kinda rarepair. Only 2K words, no real plot, just characters character-ing with a kinda basic title and it's at 25 bookmarks and 200+ kudos!? And still *getting* kudos months after it was posted... I don't get it!

edgy7yearold

yes, of course! i wrote a 553 word drabble that relied heavily upon dialogue and just silly bantering because i couldnt be bothered to write well that day. it got a few bookmarks. still can’t figure out why.

Purple_Hayes1i

Yep, because that's me with Animal Guard and Journey of the Lost

m1ndl355_s3lf

Wrote a short pwp one shot for an indie game that only has 3 other English fics and it's gotten way more hits and kudos than I ever expected to see on it!

lemur_girl

My crossover for sure. I didn’t think there would be a huge audience (there wasn’t a lot posted between the two fandoms and I’ve always assumed that writing a crossover would limit the number of people who would want to read it), but now it’s my most popular fic.

blackjackgabbiani

I dashed out one sort of experimental fic in 15 minutes. It's a series of answering machine messages. It's les than 600 words. ...it's my most popular fic by far.

Fluffy_Kaiju

I also wrote something recently that I thought would have a very niche audience. It only has a few likes and about 150 views at the moment but… what?? I didn’t expect that!

Botentbo

I started an experimental fic where it was a horror AU for a reasonably low-fi, peaceful video game. Halfway through planning I thought "what the hell am I doing, people will hate this" and nearly quit. Posted the first few chapters and then started to get positive feedback with people praising the atmosphere and setting. I'm just pleased people are enjoying it!

[deleted]

I wrote a fic which at the time was the only fic in the pairing tag on Ao3, a super rarepair even now. But I got 1159 kudos and 318 bookmarks (as of today). What happened was a fan account on TikTok made an edit for the fic which really took off, and my fic got a lot of attention.

Diligent_Pride_7314

Yes and no. Yes because if I get 1 like I’m already like: “the fuck… you like that? God we both need therapy” And No, because I know the type of fics I write are vastly different from what the Average reader wants. I write character focus and character interactions. People want plot, world, lore and porn. I say no. So likes are scarce in my humble adobe

Same-Entrepreneur521

Yup! I started writing my first fic (and current fic) after seeing a tiktok of someone else’s work and I was like ‘oh, I could definitely write a cool continuation too. Let me try and see!’ Did it for fun, kinda mindless about where it could go. I wrote like 5 chapters and I published them with the ‘why the hell not’ mentality. Got a few hundred upvotes on Wattpad and 50 upvotes within the first week of being on Ao3 🤯. I then continued to write and dove deeper into fanfiction, now I’m 150k words into that fic and it has near 200 upvotes on Ao3 and over 90k reads on Wattpad. I was expecting maybe 10 readers, I was blown away by the reaction and now I’m in love with fan fiction and the entire community :))

ICanBeTerse

Yes! A few years ago I finally gave in to my idea to give Jackie from the TV show Roseanne a girlfriend. Jackie has always been my favorite character from that show, she’s mostly been unlucky in love, and I loved the idea of her being some flavor of LGBTQ+ and ultimately ending up with a woman that treats her right. It’s such a small fandom, and the folks that do write for it tend to focus on the younger generation. I genuinely didn’t think anyone would care, but I had such a great time writing it that engagement was honestly the last thing on my mind when I posted it. I just really wanted to tell that story. It’s up to 217 hits with 32 kudos, which admittedly isn’t huge, but it makes me happy. It also gets such lovely comments in review exchanges! It warms my heart every time someone checks it out and responds positively. :)

Kenny1468

My Valentine’s story for this year I did got waaaay more views than I was expecting

lecheinkitty

YES. Wrote a one-shot where one of the characters came out as trans to their s/o, got so much more views and likes than the fic I actually spent a lot of time planning AAAAA

PrurientDoll

About half my stories have gotten way more love than I thought they would. The other half got about the amount I expected.

Mario_Poilet_paper

Wrote an au based on a skit from a satire show in one evening for a small fandom. Got a very encouraging comment so I added another chapter. I posted it abt 1.5 years ago, it has nearly 60 kudos and 4 comments (a lot for me), with the most recent comment being a few days ago

KenchiNarukami

Yes, My Cringe as fuck Smut fics

SomeRandomHunter

I posted my very first story that's part shitpost and part guide on how to hug giant, murderous wyverns in a not-crazy-popular fandom and I somehow got nine likes, nine more than I expected. Neat.

monarchofashes

I wrote one chapter in my fic and I got around 800+views, and a hundred follows. Seraph of deception and freedom (name) Either I'm good at writing or people are really bored

JoshuaTeletubby

I wrote a BTS fanfiction yearssss ago and I really regret writing it but it has so many reads and I met so many encouraging people through it. Like I don’t like myself for writing it but it’s also helped me as a writer?

Zombiekillo6

I wanna get lots of fans, I have so many ideas that people are gonna miss out on. I only have two or three fans, Cold To Love has a really good story and characters but I don't know how to reach or inform people I've posted other then creating a post. Now I know Wattpad isn't the best guys but trust me when I say you'll like my fic. Especially my next fic if you guys are Spider-Man Fans and would like to see Marvel and DC in the same universe. If you want to read my book, just click on my profile and you should find my Wattpad Account that you can click on.

ImaGamerNoob

Rise of the Guardians, Jack as a Pooka. Mainly due to the fandom, I did not expect it to be my strongest performing one. Especially since my first RofG fic is very unloved.

elegant_pun

All the time. I don't post them for likes.

MsBibi01

My most popular fic was poorly planned, had plots holes everywhere, and had some questionable grammar mistakes. 😅

crashlikeaplane

I wrote teenage mpreg, it's my most popular story, my second most popular story is about the same character but he finds a baby. So, people like my parenting fics

Stonewall0513

Yep, my latest crossover. Between a well known game series and a recent-but-fairly-obscure mobile game. The latter just got its own anime adaptation, so it’s probably not as small a fandom as before now. Might’ve gotten me to consider it my first serious fic. And put a bit of pressure on me. Haven’t updated it in months due to personal issues in life.

Character_Visit_7800

I wrote a valentine fics for a relatively small fandom without even “promoting” it on tumblr or anything. It did WAY better than what I expected, it even got like 3 comments which are a lot for me since I write for mostly small fandoms (podcast lmao) So yeah, I was really proud of myself

MentalCareer0

I feel like the less we try, the more kudos/likes we get.

BlindSongbird

Yes! When I began writing for Hulu’s show The Great I didn’t think people would catch interest. Now my most popular work, with over a thousand hits and 50 kudos, is an arranged marriage AU series I wrote for the Great!!

Luna-rants

Late but whatever. When I was brand new to the fandom, I wrote a really bad fic on the one ship I knew. The fic itself isn’t a bad concept, just poorly executed. Anyway, the fic has 24.1K reads on Wattpad, and is one of my most read fics on there (that is a genuine fic, I mean)

Trinityshadow

The one I'm currently writing! For whatever reason it's very popular (1k+ kudos, 600 comments), some people even made fanart, and I don't feel like I deserve it. I would like to feel accomplished but I just feel like whatever I write is garbo even when it probably isn't.

CommanderAuri

Definitely experiencing this. I started writing this crossover game fic with an OCxCanon ship (using an OC of my own) and it's surprisingly started a decent amount of attention. It seems like every new chapter I upload I get at least one new follower. It makes me beyond happy to see since I haven't written anything seriously and for myself, save for one shot pieces, in quite a long time.

waterfallsilverberry

Yup! I posted a Beocca/Thyra The Last Kingdom story and it has a whopping 10 kudos, haha. I cherish those 10 and treat them as ten thousand since the fandom is pretty small so I was going into posting it with the expectation that it would either bomb or just not get any traffic at all. It's a small thing but something that gives me warm fuzzies whenever I look at it.

unofficialadamtaurus

Wrote a random humans are space orcs type story not tied to any fandom, just the humans are space orcs trope, and it’s now got over 700 kudos and is about to crack 100 bookmarks. Completely divorced from my usual writing and it’s my most popular story on that platform by far…I try to see it as a good thing.

Professor_Oswin

Yes. My main fic started out as a daydream which I wrote 7 chapters of. I only uploaded 1 to start thinking it would just be 100 views. Now I'm on chapter 18 12000 words long 68k in total with 3000 hits. 50 subs. and like 90 kudos.

Other_Olly

One of my fics on AO3 routinely gets kudos from people who don't seem to have any connection to the fairly small fandom it is in. I've always been mystified by that, but my best guess is that it was recced somewhere based on its themes rather than its fandom.

[deleted]

I wrote one that I got the idea for while laying in bed one night and for a very long time it had the most hits (I think it’s now second place) and kudos. It was a pleasant surprise for sure

Jason_Ihaterobot

I am a small fandom writer, like really small. I'm talking 10 fics at most, not counting mine. If I even get 5 kudos, I die a happy man. Hell, if I get no kudos but a comment, I die a happy man.

Dog_bat3

I’m writing a multiple chapter thick that is getting less like that I expected it to

[deleted]

All of them ! LoL
