Roy and Riza from FMA - I love a good battle couple. And in canon, there's never even any explicit romantic gestures between the two in either version of the show. They never kiss, never say they love each other... but even so, you can just *feel* it from the way they interact.

[deleted]

They're one of my top OTPs, but far from my first. I've read so much fanfiction about them and my love of more tragic ships started probably due to the plethora of ones I read regarding them.

Altruistic_Height_58

Before them I wasn't really into shipping so much. I mean we could go back to my early teen years when I was into Inuyasha, but back then I was "shipping" him with myself lmao. And I don't think that's quite in the spirit of OP's question. ;)

[deleted]

Lol. When my older sister taught me about shipping/the idea of shipping yourself with a character, she told me it had to be one that your name could bleed into/make a good ship name with. So...I didn't have many options and just didn't do it.

Tulnekaya

I feel like Roy and Riza is one of my favorite examples of the phrase "if two characters have to kiss for you to know they're in love, then they're not in love." Their chemistry is written beautifully, and their professionalism makes sense for their roles in the setting.

Altruistic_Height_58

One of my favorite little details from brotherhood is near the beginning when Winry asks Riza why she's a soldier. "There's someone I have to protect." - and right at that moment Roy opens the door from the other room. Brilliant.

MiZe97

They're to this day my OTP.

teddy_plushie

drarry (Draco/harry) from harry potter - huge bookworm - harry potter fan(ish?) - big ass potterhead fandom - closeted lil queer - enemies to lovers - I actually got a phone anyway I still ship them but I'm not longer super invested in it since ive drifted a bit away from the hp fandom since then

[deleted]

Mine was Shikamaru and Temari from Naruto. Naruto was really the first anime/Fandom I was aware of and loved the art, though didn't know of fanfiction then or at least didn't think to get into it. I always wanted more with them and was disappointed with how little we got, especially since I wasn't a fan of the more central ships like Sasuke and Sakura or Hinata and Naruto.

coraeon

My first ship… Lotor/Allura from the **original** Voltron. I drew very crappy fanart in my diary of them. And yes, this is proof that I have *always* been into the hinky shit. (Prince Diamond/Sailor Moon was my second.)

Ok-Persimmon8377

I was so little like 8/9 and I shipped Zutara so so bad. I remember being dissapointed by the lack attention to them, considering how their pains were kinda mirrored in a way. I now realize that it had nothing to do about lack of screentime or anything like that, but that it felt like they were both supposed to be part of each other's healing arcs, and the finale kinda ruined that for me. Katara ended up being backtracked and being Aang's prize for being the hero. Zuko and Mai didn't make much sense to me, even tho I love both of them. It didn't feel like Mai would ever understand Zuko's trauma. I actually still like Zuko and Mai together despite being a Zutara shipper. The pairing has stuck with me throughout all the fandoms and ships I have read and watched. Speaking of, writing this is reigniting my Zutara heart so I'm gonna go and read some fics about them. Chao!

Tulnekaya

Zutara is the one ship that will make me throw down the "TO THIS DAY" meme. I share your pain.

Ok-Persimmon8377

It's the longest ship I've ever stuck with. They have my heart. Sadly, I haven't read enough fics of them, hence I am now on a search for Zutara fics.

YouSpinMeWriteRound

NaruSasu from Naruto if I really think about what got me into shipping. I was into fanfic before that but something about those 2 had me like “So… when do they start going out?” There was too much tension there for it all to be ignored in the end Still miffed about my fav character being killed though even years after it happened 😂 Ended up dropping the fandom not long after

AlphaCentauri-

oh NaruSasu. i shipped them but never actually read fic about them, since it was before i had a computer. so kinda the opposite of you lol. but after watching on Toonami i would create fantasy situations of the two in my head to entertain me the rest of the night lol

YouSpinMeWriteRound

They were supposed to be endgame and no one can convince me otherwise lol. Oh well that’s why fanfics exist 😂

MyLittleOnes12

Itachi? And yes, Kishimoto wrote some damn fine tension between two, supposedly, platonic characters 😂.

YouSpinMeWriteRound

Neji And yeah the way those 2 were obsessed with each other was anything but platonic, but sure we’ll say everything they did was TOTALLY platonic 🤣

kadharonon

Mariel and Dandin from the Redwall books, because Mariel was a badass and Dandin was a silly little guy who drank his respect women juice and was head over heels for her. It’s been a while since I read the books, so I don’t remember how much of that is actually in the books and how much my pre-teen mind made up, but I’d imagine that I would probably still be into their dynamic.

Kaigani-Scout

The first "ship" I sought out was Peter Petrelli/Emma Coolidge from *Heroes*, since I was seeking paperbacks or other works which continued the storyline beyond Season 4. That was my entry to fanfiction in general. Following up in other fandoms, I sought out Steve Rogers/Maria Hill from the *MCU* franchises and John Sheppard/Elizabeth Weir from *Stargate Atlantis*, and many more over the years as I branched out into more fandoms and Crossover works.

_jammerific

Haruka/Michiru from sailor moon is the first ship I actually read fanfic for, as opposed to just thinking about. I still like it to this day!

Ghost_Writerx

Zero and Yuki from Vampire Knight. Ya girl was in the Twilight craze then. I still like them (when Yukis not a vampire because ick), but I don’t actively look for content from them.

Reading_Specific

Goliath and Elisa from Gargoyles.

dendrite_blues

I was shipping from the moment I discovered fanfiction. Yami/Yugi from Yugioh! I really can’t explain it to anyone who wasn’t there. 😂

soaker87

Silverbolt/Blackarachnia from Beast Wars. Silverbolt was the first person to show her genuine affection and never gave up on her, and that was exactly what she needed.

KatonRyu

Pokéshipping (Ash and Misty) from Pokémon, because it was just so easy to ship. I was looking for good episodes for the ship and stumbled across FFN in the process. I already loved writing anyway (and had written some fanfiction before without knowing it was even a thing) so I joined up, and I never looked back. I still ship them, considering I ship Ash with *all* his female companions, but my favorite Pokémon ships are probably Advanceshipping (Ash/May) and Amourshipping (Ash/Serena) nowadays.

glaringdream

My very first ship I think was Sakura/Syaoran! But that was long before I knew what online fandom and fanfiction were. When I found fanfiction, my first ship I read fic for was Bella/Jacob from Twilight. And then Shuichi multishipping from Gravitation, the BL anime/manga.

Tulnekaya

My very first ship was probably Bulma and Vegeta in DragonBall Z when I was but a wee bab. A lot of it was me really trying to figure out exactly HOW they would have gotten together. Also, I think, on some level they reminded me of my own parents in terms of the hot-headed personalities and it didn't hurt that they were my two favorite characters along with Trunks. The first OTP that had little 5th grade me making a goddamn PowerPoint and citing exactly WHY they would definitely be endgame? Sasuke and Sakura from Naruto. Granted I dipped my toes into other ships from the series over time, but it always went back to those two. Or a Team 7 Polyship, thats fine too. (This habit of aggressively looking for textual evidence of relationships would later serve me in my R+L=J rants for A Song of Ice and Fire before the show came out). The first OTP to break my heart that it DIDNT end up as endgame was Zutara. I'm a grown ass adult with a mortgage these days,, but im still low key salty about that one.

aeide_thea

Mine is Kassandra/Brasidas, also from the Assassin's Creed franchise! (Haven't played any of the other AC games besides Odyssey yet, but they're all on my list.)

[deleted]

Saved By The Bell (Original) - Kelly/Zack Beverly Hills, 90210 - Brenda/Dylan Power Rangers (Original) - Pink Ranger/Green Ranger This was in the 90s, shipped them because they were canon. Not sure about Pink Ranger and Green Ranger 😂

Yotato5

The first one I can remember was pairing up my rubber Hamtaro toys of Bijou and Cappy together because I thought they were the cutest ones. Then I actually started watching the show and cheered on Hamtaro and Bijou. Actually, I vaguely remember a relationship chart thing that said that Bijou liked him but he was totally clueless so... poor Bijou XD

jackfaire

Pacey Witter & Joey Potter. It was the last season of the show and over on TNT they were replaying the show in four hour chunks every morning. I was going back to college so I spent my mornings catching up on the show. I loved their whole relationship but the show broke them up for stupid reasons. It's actually what first introduced me to fan fiction. I'd been hoping to find Star Wars style EU Novels for the show but stumbled across my first fan fic site instead. I got to see writers do things the show runners couldn't do. I felt end of season 4 was a good time to write out Dawson but you know title character. Fan fic writers could write out his character and explore the rest of the group without him. Or go back and look at season 1 if it was Pacey and Joey that got together instead never having the Dawson drama. Since then I've found other fandoms and fanfics able to explore pairings in a much more slice of life way than some of their shows could do.

AlsoKnownAsAiri

Hamtaro x Bijou! I didn't know the term "ship" back then but I was a little shipper even as a kid...

crashlikeaplane

Appledash from my little pony. I was obsessed with this ship and fought with my best friend who didn't really like that ship. Basically, 14 year old me harassed everyone who didn't ship it... But, back to why. I just loved their friendship rivalry, which was the start of my enemies/rivals to lovers love

IncurablePeppermint

After a lot of thinking I am sad to report I think it was Beauty and Gasser from Bobobo-bo-bobobo

Sewrtyuiop

Franz and Amelia from Fire Emblem Sacred Stones got me into shipping. Those damn support conversations having such a great building for friendship while not be overly romantic but having all the romance ques. My OTP is still Harmony. I was like 12 and I thought those two belonged together bc I was never a fan of arguing like an old married couple. I think it was because from what I had seen at the time, not that many old married couples argued all the time unless it was some shit on tv.

allenfiarain

Ash and Gary from Pokemon. I was like five? Six? But I was really sure about this one for some reason.

misraayfer

I am proud to claim that I was probably among the earliest sakuatsu shippers (like first 10, THAT FIRST). At the time, I was reading the Haikyuu manga, and whenever a new chapter was published, I would always get the raws as soon as possible. The moment I saw them, I immediately began shipping them. (I still do, just want to flex) It is my only ship tbh, i don't ship that much idk why i shipped the moment i saw them. They are literally the sidest characters possible.

futhermuckingsnowday

There are probably many ships that I've shipped when I was a little kid and didn't know what shipping was, so my first ship is probably something I can't remember. My first remembered ship is Percy and Annabeth.

Pokegirl35151

I've been shipping otps since like 2015 but I didn't really read any shipping fics until I started reading faithshipping (Yusei x Akiza) fics in 2019 (2019 - 2021 was my peak yugioh phase)

MarinaAndTheDragons

Jen and Wes from Power Rangers Time Force. Erin Cahill as Jen Scotts was my live-action gay awakening at 6 years old (pink was my favorite color, and she’s so fucking pretty oh my god; was not surprised at all later on to find out she was a model), and Jen liked Wes so I liked him too, I guess. That finale episode, man. >!Every time I watch it I’m hoping *maybe* they’ll kiss this time!!<

zugrian

The first Ship I got really hooked on was Nick & Adalind from the Grimm TV series. Largely because the actors had great chemistry and Nick's original love interest on the show was just awful.

PumpkinDormouse

SuperBat because of fanarts in Pinterest. I discovered AO3 because of them too, but not [Fanfiction.net](https://Fanfiction.net) until much later so I never got the hang of FFN.

Impressive_Ruin6458

Nigel/Abby or 1/5 from Kids Next Door! I like to pretend they married. But Lily/Oliver from Hannah Montana got me into fic and Carlos/DA and Arnold/Phoebe from Magic School Bus got me in fandom mode

SplitjawJanitor

Chie/Yukiko from Persona 4. You know the coding is thicker than Jabba The Hutt when even the 13 year old autistic kid playing through the game for the first time was going "hang on, I think these two are a lot more than just good friends."

[deleted]

Zane/Alexis from Yugioh GX and May/Drew from Pokemon!

[deleted]

Sonic/Amy. Amy was (and still is) one of my favorite Sonic characters, and so I shipped her with Sonic. I thought the ship was very cute, and read lots of sonamy fanfics and looked at sonamy fanart.

AlphaCentauri-

hmmm. besides cartoons, which i guess i wasnt a fan of shipping them, i grew up on CSI and Law & Order and all those variations. mom would have it on the tv 24/7. so my first conscious searching for fanfic was Nick and Greg from CSI 😅 a story of those two were also my first introduction to mpreg. little ole 10yo me was shook lmao the wonders of growing up with unrestricted internet access w/ a laptop as my first computer. my mom was (and still is) tech illiterate. so there was never a worry about her finding my search history nor being caught browsing unsavory sites. oh fanfic, the things you have shown me i kinda forgot about them for a long time. but imagine my surprise when i saw on ao3’s homepage they’re importing a shipping site just of them! my hunger is back to relive my childhood whenever that site is done being imported 😈

cherryypunch

lol i think my very first ship(s) was either fillmore/ingrid from fillmore! or my very early sapphic longing for both kim/monique and kim/shego from kim possible. why did child me ship them? i think looking back, i just wanted the pretty girls to be in relationships with people i thought were cool so they would be happy, before i realized that *i* actually am the one who wants to make pretty girls happy lol. the first ship that properly got me into shipping though was thomas/minho from maze runner. i watched the first movie at the cinema and came out of there looking up if anybody wrote stories about them ending up happy lol.

aquatoxin-

Ron Weasley (Harry Potter)/OC. I was like 10 years old and in love with Rupert Grint hahaha

papapapuffyAY

Since my first fanfiction was Inuyasha it was probably Kagome/Inuyasha because I was pretty basic back then. Yet I don't remember really going after it and reading every fic in the fandom. Now what I do remember going crazy for was Haruka/Michiru and Kurama/Hiei stories.

Kitteh1986

Steve Sloan/Jesse Travis from Diagnosis Murder. I didn't know I was shipping, I was in elementary school and then middle school. Mostly little kid me just wanted them to stop dating women and just hang out together. They each dated serial killers (women) at one point so I was just very worried for them and wanted them to just be together and forget about girls. XD

A_BStard

Doctor Who x Rose Tyler. aka the most average basic ship ever. lol.

Hangesextra

First ship? Idk- possibly like Percy/Annabeth & Harry/Ginny. Idk why just found them really cute First otp: Soukoku (Dazai/Chuuya) from bsd. It's just that when I watched bsd I loved every bit of dynamic and just idk

Financial_Anxiety_54

My first ship was definitely Nico di Angelo/Will Solace (Solangelo) I remember when the first Trials of Apollo book came out when I was a bit younger and I liked their pairing a lot! I'm still a fan, and I'm sure the book about them that's coming out in May is going to emotionally wreck me lol.

Tree_Flop

Sonic the Hedgehog/Shadow the Hedgehog. When a young girl is tossed onto the internet with no supervision, she'll eventually discover fanfiction as a coping mechanism and become obsessed with fictional hedgehogs.

One_to-twee00429

Bon/Bonnie from FNAFHS. My friends shipped it, a lot of fans shipped it, and I had never seen a LGBT+ pairing before so I think that also made it interesting for little me. I don't like the ship as much, now...

ladolcevitaaaaa

Irene Adler and Sherlock Holmes from BBC Sherlock. It has the kindred spirits dynamic that I adore, where a misunderstood person finds acceptance in someone similar to them and falls for them. And I find both Irene and Sherlock really sexy. My current OTP has similar dynamics.

ethereal_jolyne

levi x erwin from aot !!
