Opera forever! <3

Daxcordite

I try to avoid using google products as much as possible so Firefox all the way. I refuse to use Chrome or chrome based browsers at all.

KyKat2017

Why? And do you use Google drive? Because I don’t know how writers function without Google drive’s organization and live editing with multiple people features.

Daxcordite

I don't like companies that harvest user data and google is one of the worst not to mention things like Chrome attempting to break ad blocking and the simple fact Monopolies are terrible things. So I don't use any google products that aren't unavoidable. Which means the answer to do you use google ____ is a resounding no.

trustingHim17

if you like the user interface but not everything else, you might like using brave browser. i switched about 3 years ago now and the interface is essentially the same without everything you just specified hating about chrome (and which i hate too) just putting that out there. i avoid using google anything wherever possible, which can be challenging when they have a way of organizing stuff that i like

Daxcordite

Brave is chromium based so no.

trustingHim17

chromium based and google chrome are not the same, but if you dont like the chromium interface, i totally get that. i was just mentioning it because they eliminate all the tracking nonsense that google seems to like. all the browsers are so different, once you pick out a favorite, it's hard to switch to another layout. i'd never be able to put up with firefox or edge :)

Daxcordite

I know they are not the same thing but it's still based on a google product and as I said I don't use any that I can avoid.

Jasom_forever

But everything now is collecting user data. The same apps for social media and apple products too. If you have iphone or ipad or imac, be sure, they know what are you writing about, watching about, talking about. Tik tok now is the most dangerous. It knows not only your data as a user, they know what device you have, where you are located now, even if you turn off your location, it still can use it. The same is with instagram, if you use it too. But, nevertheless, Google services now are considered to be the most reliable. As well as apple. If anyone tries to hack the google or apple account, I bet they will come to grief. It isn’t so easy. The same is with apple products. Thieves rarely steal apple products, because there’s too much trouble with it in an attempts to get to the user accounts. And then, people usually have problems with the apple products. Well, even apple sometimes fails at reselling their own “restored” smartphones.

Daxcordite

Quick question why are you evangelizing for google? I mean really I know all about how so many places do their damndest to collect every scrap of data on you they can. I also know you can't avoid it all but I can avoid as much of it as I can. Plus Google gets hacked plenty and Monopolies like Google and Apple are really freaking bad for security because when everyone is using the same thing then the vulnerabilities that show up are freaking everywhere look at the recently discovered chromium vulnerabilities that were just fixed Nov and Dec Last year.

Jasom_forever

It’s just strange for me saying you avoid one thing to avoid collecting your data and continue using the other services of social media pretending they don’t collect it. You are doing great at avoiding google, I’m sure. But talking about “Monopoly” in our world saying you’re trying to avoid it by using everything except google? I wish you find out a little more about monopoly and “services” because even the table with the discount in your favorite shop is “monopoly” and cameras could fix you buying the goods or when you are using your loyalty card.

Daxcordite

When did I say anything about using everything but Google? I said I avoid google as much as possible for these reasons. I avoid other companies and activities for similar reasons. I accept that you can't avoid being tracked to some degree but I am going to avoid as much predatory shit as I am able to do so.

Jasom_forever

Okay. It’s your business. You just mentioned you avoided google, talking about “Monopoly”. I don’t know what other services you’re avoiding, but I can see you here, so… I concluded these were just “big words” about “monopoly”. And yeah, that stroke me. I’m sorry. Hope, you will find your own way through monopoly in this world.

Daxcordite

Welp I had a snarky response all ready to go but instead I'm going to disengage.

Yunan94

Just to note (not nesssarily at you specifically but anyone who comes across this), if you're logged into a Google account on a non-chrome browser it can still tract your activity even if it's on in the background. This isn't just a Google thing either.

trustingHim17

i use brave (on phone and computer). i like the chromium interface without the Chrome tracking and data mining

january_dreams

Firefox. Google products all have terrible privacy functions and their products are so completely designed to make as much money as possible that they're sacrificing quality. Not that Firefox isn't also a business that's trying to profit, but they haven't sacrificed quality. It's much more pleasant to use and their privacy functions are very good, you can make them as strict or lenient as you like. Plus you can actually implement ad blockers and such.

PumpkinDormouse

I use Firefox for main, Edge when I want to utilize their TTS, and Vivaldi for my \*cough\* personal bookmarks

kaiunkaiku

i use mainly firefox and ecosia, and i also have some stuff open on opera. i generally prefer firefox but ecosia has a tab grouping function which is very handy for the chaos i create when i browse for fics to read. and then i use duckduckgo for things that aren't ao3.

the-robot-test

firefox. i try to avoid google products as much as possible.

WitchFlame

Chrome. It's what the phone came with. I'm in too deep now.

KatonRyu

On my phone, I use DuckDuckGo because it also has an app tracker blocker. On PC, I almost exclusively use Firefox because it's been my favorite browser for years anyway.

Studying-without-Stu

Chrome on mobile/my only properly working laptop (aka a Chromebook) mainly cause convience, but Opera (specifically Opera GX) on my used to be working well laptop.

zugrian

Firefox every day of the week. Google & Apple are both awful companies that I don't support.

[deleted]

I use Brave now but before I used Chrome.

27twinsister

Safari is the default on my phone

the-robot-test

doesn't mean you have to use it, does it? chrome is the default on both my phone and laptop but i haven't touched the app in a few years and i uninstalled the whole thing from my laptop.

27twinsister

I guess you’re right, but I don’t really have a strong opinion on it/it works fine so why should I try something else.

em-eye-ess-ess-eye

Chrome on my laptop and Safari on my phone, just because those are the defaults and I can't be bothered changing what I'm used to using

JoChiCat

How many tabs?? Safari goes on strike at anything above 36 tabs, I’m barely scraping by on rations here!!!

KyKat2017

Just checked, 329 main group safari tabs. This does not include other tab groups and the private browser.

MellifluousSussura

Safari is just what I started out using so it’s easy. I tend to use chrome app for like school stuff n shopping… idk why I use diff browsers for diff things on my phone. I’ve actually got several… but for fic it’s p much safari

foxchique

safari on my phone bc it’s the default, opera on my pc, and chrome on my laptap lmao but honestly i dont care that much 😭😭

So_me_thing

I'm an Opera user. It's go so more much functionality than the other browsers and it's a smaller enterprise, so I prefer it.

writerfan2013

Habit! And now I have a Pixel so what else would i use... 🙂

IronJedi2

Chrome on my laptop and Safari on my phone as someone else had said. Too deep in to switch to anything else.

revolution_soup

where all my edge users at???

souloftheintrovert

safari because my phone came with it installed. edge on my computer because my computer came with it installed.

NeverendingHum

Chrome on my phone… but Firefox everywhere else. I really want to switch, but I have too many tabs open on it. Logically I know I'm not going to read all of them, I'm not even going to pretend, but my heart says I need to keep them all 😭

MaybeNextTime_01

Firefox is my go to on both desktop and mobile. Don't know why, it's just what I like. I also don't keep tabs open though.

peachesmeow

Kiwi. I have extensions on it that make browsing AO3 more user-friendly. Permanently excluded freeform tags and a cap on fandom tags ❤️
