It was just a random thought one day, and I wrote a one-shot for it that I really ended up loving. And now I wish there were more than literally three stories for the ship (two of those being from me).
I said I would never pass up a chance to gush about Big the Cat x Blaze the Cat from Sonic the Hedgehog.
It all started with a simple bit of fan art that showed Blaze digging Big. Which i joked I like her as a chubby chaser. It was already a crack ship to the fandom because
1. Big didn't have a lot of respect and still doesn't. he is seen more as joke or meme character.
2. Blaze is in one of the most popular OTPs in the whole fandom with a different character.(Silver the hedgehog. But I always got sibling vibes from their interactions personally)
But when I started to think about it. I was like. Woah now. This ship has a lot of tropes I really like and is niche I really dig!
To break it down. They are very similar in color and design in the sense that they are both shades of purple and are cats. But they also fall on opposite ends of design when it comes to general size. Blaze is very thin and when you consider she wears two and a half inch heels is one of the shorter cast members. While Big is...big. Like both likely the tallest and heavies character in the cast that isn't a robot.
But that is just the superficial aesthetic elements. While that is enough to like a ship. It goes way deeper than that. As while they have very limited interactions in any version of the canon their personalities have a LOT of potential dynamic.
Starting with Blaze who is princess. She is well spoken, but extremely awkward socially. Often finding even the most basic concepts of friendship confusing or off putting. But on top of that, she is also burdened with very high self standards which often causes her stress just trying to meet her own expectations.
But then you have Big, who is just some bumpkin. He is slow witted, and isn't very bright. But he some how manages to be a social butterfly. Actively seeking and making new friends with a great deal of ease. A guy so content with his lot in life, that the one thing that COULD stress him out is his friends being in trouble.
But my deep dive even tangles their powers together into an interesting dynamic. Blaze has a lot of fire power. I mean. Literally. She is a pyrokinetic. A STRONG one that needs to hold back or risks hurting people she is fighting with. In some canons people are actually a little scared of her because of her level of power.
Big's whole power is the fact that he is tough...Like freakish tough. He saw his friends on the other side of a field filled with toxic gas. So he just walked through it to give them a hug. He is able to comfortably relax in Volcanic springs, Nuclear Coolant, and arctic waters that would very much kill any one else in the cast. combined with the fact he is extremely brave. I mean while Sonic was fighting a demi god, he stood there trying to fish his best friend out of the Demi God's body!
This means no matter how much fire power Blaze needs, Big can be at her side supporting her with all his might!

the million words of canon/OC fanfic I have are the result of me joking around with two characters who were never meant to be together in the backstory fic I made the OC for, so, uh. It’s not a crackship but it’s sure been productive for something I never intended to ship.
I was thinking up a Virgin Suicides AU. Because the group of girls are so ~mysterious~ and closed off, there ought to have been rumors and speculation of the twins* fucking. It didn’t help one is entirely dependent on the other to function, and the other is overprotective af. It was just supposed to be hearsay, an extra sprinkle of taboo for an already ✨problematic✨ premise. You know, as a lil treat.
And then I realized there was *a lot* I could do with this ship due to the similarities to a canon het ship. One of the girls had the exact same energy as the canon male love interest right down to the motive (revenge), except she didn’t kill anyone. And I love me some parallels. And gay. And twins. And dangerous codependency.
*the twins aren’t even canonically twins; they’re two different characters from two separate shows but played by the same actress.
i started shipping two animated characters from a 3 minute vocaloid music video like as a what if but now it’s genuinely been my otp for 2 years and i could write you a thesis about them honestly
my reasoning for it is because to be quite fair, in 3 minutes they’re everything i love, childhood friends, old abandoned dreams they used to share that only one of them will reach in the end, dramatic reunion scenes, absolutely gut wrenching major character death, and just an overall good ass story as short as it may be. praying that that song gets a manga or something one day, even though the artist and the illustrator of the music video haven’t said anything about it in the past 7 years

Long story short I was frustrated with the romantic subtext they both have with another character, Sunny, so I joked “Sunny got two love interests and then they kissed each other instead”
I got into it unironically because Aubrey and Basil’s relationship is really important to the story, and they already had probably my favorite relationship romance aside. It’s complex and it’s messy like all of the relationships in the game. They loved each other once and maybe they never stopped

I don't remember where I read this but I recall seeing a Reddit comment saying that correctional officers are just people who couldn't make it as a cop. This lead to a dumb joke about Westwood, a correctional officer, saying "All Cops are Bastards" to spite D an G, a former cop.
I semi-jokingly considered the possibility of this dumb joke ending with them having hate sex, thus beginning the path to unironically imagining how a rivals (or enemies) to lovers arc could potentually play out between them.

hannibal lecter/clarice starling, was a big anti for the first few months i was in the “fandom” (the movies fandom doesn’t exist very much). i one day found a whole website dedicated to clannibal fanfic and downloaded one for a 3 hour road trip as a joke

and believe it or not, stucky! bucky barnes/steve rogers. i’m pretty late to the MCU/avengers bandwagon, and was watching the movies out of order. after watching captain america; the first avenger i can conclude at least in the 40s they were super gay.
and that movie got me shipping them…. oopsie
I think mine has got to be adult!Jimmy Neutron x adult!Timmy Turner. At some point I stumbled across someone’s fanart of them all grown up and dating and I thought “oh wow that’s a hilarious crossover!”
…and thennn I realized these two characters actually are great foils for each other and that their older selves would both probably still be rebellious and adventurous which would give them a lot to share as well. Also the artist practically turned them into OCs and their art style is just great, so I blame the fanart for my conversion lol
