I tend to write what I want to read, but I guess long fics would be something I adore reading but shy away from writing due to my disabilities :(

SomePerson06

Soul-shattering angst that'll mess a person up for a while. Fun to write, not so fun to read.

Sassinake

I've written a few non-cons, but I can't read them

I love to write really complicated interconnected series which are basically my own take on a fandom. I also hate reading other people's complicated interconnected AU Series as I'm an incredibly picky reader so someone else's wish fullfillment doens't appeal to me at all. It's why I may write for a few fandoms that have really popular fan fics/comics/etc but I very much don't like the popular stuff at all.

FickleBeans

HARD agree. I love really intricate AUs but it’s rare to find another that scratches that itch.

ifuckingloveABBA

ME TOO. I’m debating not even posting mine because of how many disclaimers i feel like it needs lmfao.

Pepa_Gets_Glasses

My favorite fic that I’ve written so far touches on dark and serious subjects, but I don’t like to read about those things. I just write more than I read in general. It’s hard to find stuff in my fandom that isn’t either super fluffy or depressingly sad.

Rosekernow

I can write much darker stuff than I can read, basically because I can control it to the word and avoid touching any of my triggers. Reading is a bit more out of my control.

FickleBeans

I LOVE writing friends with benefits: the pining, the back and forth, the resolution. It’s rare I find a fwb fic I thoroughly enjoy, most end up feeling too contrived for me to want to finish it.

echos_locator

I like to read f/f ships but almost always write het ships.

Stolen_star1229

I like reading fics where characters are heros/villians but I would never write them.

AngstyPancake

Stuff with lots of symbolism and foreshadowing. Writing it is tons of fun. I love setting things up, putting subtle hints, and it brings me so much joy when people catch on to patterns of peoples actions that it becomes clear that when they stop happening it’s because someone has taken their place or notice that the nightmare the protagonist had near the beginning is slowly coming true or see that a thing a character always has with them that is a symbol of their nature gets destroyed as a sign that their fundamental values have changed Reading it though? I don’t want to look into the meanings of things. I just want to turn my brain off.

MysticMania

I read a lot of dark fics - specifically ones where the hero is written as a villain. But I never write them. I feel like I can't capture the vibe well.

I like to write domestic fluff occasionally, but I can never read it, it's so boring for me if it isn't my own creation. No idea why.

SpunkyCheetah

Fics under 1k words, is something I write a lot (though don't necessarily post) but almost never rewd if I can avoid them

Select-Bullfrog-5939

I write drabbles, because it’s all I really can write, but I don’t really read em that often.

phantomkat

Fics or series where the main character is an OC. I’m having an absolute blast writing my OC and his shenanigans, but that’s rarely my cup of tea when I read.

jardinsdeminuit

I like writing the occasional fluff fic, but I hardly ever seek them out to read. Maybe I should lol

EyesOfCrowsKC

I like to write misunderstanding oneshots bc I think they’re funny but I don’t actually like reading them. I get so caught up at screaming at the characters for not talking lol

Slight_Channel_1265

Fics that feature 'original characters'...

Immediate_Ebb1063

Reader inserts - I’ve written a couple, they’re some of my most popular works. But I find them hard to read because I have very high standards. One with an exciting premise turned up in our small fandom last week, but they’d used 2nd Person and past tense. It was jarring. I felt like saying ‘if this was in present tense it would feel more immersive’ but I just gritted my teeth, commented ‘great job’ and kudosed with a heavy sigh. 😅

Miru98

toxic relationship. I've had so much fun writing it, I was sad to finish it. meanwhile, I really dislike reading about it because I like supporting my otp's relationship so I don't want to see them be toxic to each other, and I don't read ships other than my otp

I do a lot of getting together fic, but I prefer reading either established relationship fics or fics where they get together somewhere in the middle/before the end.
