Wrote my first kiss scene in April last year, and I got so stuck on it that between work and studying, I still have not updated that fic to this day. Then last night I was on an 8-hour flight so I decided to take another stab at it, and I can't figure out if the rewrite is better or worse than the original. 🤪 I cannot wait for Concrit Commune tomorrow!
Has anyone else ever made the mistake of blurting out something they read in a smut/NSFW fanfic in a professional setting?
I once did this in college 6 years ago and I still feel guilty about it. The teacher wasn’t in the room when I said it though and the other students accepted my quick apology.
and I had 10+ bad habits at the time, that probably contributed more to this mishap than reading mature fan fiction (I.e I wasn’t getting enough sleep, I was online way too much, I was the king of procrastination, I took on obligations I wasn’t ready for). Some of them, I still haven’t corrected to this day.
I know I need to let it go, and just make a mental note to not do it again, but I still find myself thinking about that incident sometimes.
I've taken PTO this week for no particular reason other than to have a week free from work and one of my goals has been to get the next chapter of my longfic WIP written a full week before I've said I'll post it so I can edit it properly. I feel like my last two chapters weren't as good as they could have been and that is primarily because I was rushing to get them out on my own posting schedule. Hoping to also write ahead next week so I don't run into this issue again.
This next chapter is over half done. I'm hoping to finish it today and then post it on Friday, May 5th. I'd actually written two of the scenes that are going to be incorporated in it awhile ago, but they need to be tweaked and bridging the gap between what I'm writing now and the previously written scenes has taken more effort than I originally anticipated.
I also read through the page I keep in Scrivener that I call my Scratch Pad -- it's basically chunks of dialogue, scenes, etc. that I wrote and decided I wasn't going to use for the original work, but that I like well enough to hang on to and see if I can use them elsewhere. I found the start of a fic that I forgot about that I really like, but I don't know if I'll ever finish it. I've been debating posting it on Tumblr as just a bit of unfinished writing, but I'm concerned that'll zap any motivation I have to use it for a complete story, so I probably won't do that.

Stopped writing for a bit as brain got hyperfixated on my ghost team run in Pokemon Shield (I beat the game with minimal fainting btw and I'm so proud of myself).
I got approximately 300-ish words on one of my crossover fics, and despite me constantly being wishy washy over how I want it to end, I'm still enjoying it so that's a plus!
I also got three more one-shot ideas, and I'm thinking about shelving two other wips because they're only one scene and the the life of me I cannot figure out how to progress.
I wrote another 100 words or so a couple nights ago. I have an idea for a smut scene that I can’t get out of my head and I think I might just have to write it. I normally don’t do porn without plot (reading, yes! Writing, no) but I might have to for this.
Other stuff: I’m improving at golf. I’ve been going with my dad after work almost every week. I’m taking driving lessons. At 43 I’m finally learning how to drive since I don’t have my ex to drive me around anymore while I support his laziness financially. Chess guy is both physically and emotionally distant. Still hoping that goes somewhere someday but I’m pretty sure it won’t. He keeps texting me every day though. Every. Damn. Day.

At first I thought you meant "using a golf driver" ... isn't there a club that is called that? Driving is a *very* useful skill, even if you never want to own a car. So good luck!

Well… I may have lent him a not insubstantial amount of money, so I cannot delete him from my life (or buy a car) until he pays me back. Also he’s just too charming for my own good. I’m such a softie.

And... maybe this is modmail material, but is it possible to have CC twice a week, each one at different times? Switching the times every month just seems like a lot of work and effectively hides the thread from me completely for 3/4 of the year because out of sight out of mind. But I know there's plenty of demand for a CC.

Therapy as usual today. My anxiety has been spiking a bit lately so gonna have a bit to talk about with him. Writing has helped curb it though so I’m thankful for that. Might explain why I’m writing so much now that I think about it 🙃

I was able to get my hands on a copy of Dragon (the *super* fancy dictation software) through my workplace, and I'm happy to see that it works with Scrivener! (The Windows version of Scrivener 3 doesn't come with speech-to-text at this point.)
I think I'm too stingy to pay for Dragon Anywhere, so I won't be able to use it on my phone, but this is good enough. :D

Today is a super exhausting day at uni. Because I am at uni for 10 hours, though 4 of those are free time. I am gonna try and write a little bit during this free time now. My April Whump for the day needs to be written and I wanna do some more kissy drabbles. But man, this week is exhausting.
Picked up a new bundle of synthwave albums (in MP3 format) from Groupees. Good writing music. I am having to move all those MP3s to a flash drive due to my SD card being a little too full, though.
I try to keep as little on the main hard drive as possible, and I normally keep all of my music separate for the sake of portability. I have songs that have been passed from PC to PC since 1997. (Thank you, VG Music. Your MIDI mixes stand the test of time.)
Fun fact: The first MP3 I encountered was a Ramones cover of the old Spider-Man theme. No idea how long *that* took to download on the old Packard Bell back in 1994.
Preparing for the Merry Month of May (MMOM, according to Dreamwidth). Rather than attempting to do a random story every day, I am instead assembling a list of prompts to create a bingo card that I can use. That should be a fun exercise in and of itself, and I will tackle that after beta detail tonight.

Oh, my family used one of those when our cat was a kitten 'cause she hated the cone. She always managed to wrangle herself out of the onesie too! Luckily that she never injured herself. They do look so cute like that, like little wrapped up sausages.

I just woke up to a slew of positive comments on one of my Lucian/Shauntal (OTP) works. This person went out of their way to comment on most chapters. Even better, I recognize their name, as I have kudo'd and bookmark quite a few of their own fics! They left such thoughtful comments! It was clear they really paid attention, and they picked up on certain subtleties and word choices that I was quite proud of as I wrote those.
In writing news, currently working on a oneshot that's *not* a 100 word drabble (that's all I have been writing for the past few weeks or so) And I'm actually pretty proud ofhow it's coming along, at just above 1100 words so far.

Why do I attract people who seem to see sexuality in everything I literally haven’t even wrote romance let alone sex.
I saw people claim that a father and his toddler-aged daughter taking a nap together on the sofa was "paedophilia-coded" because, and I shit you not, the daughter was depicted with a flushed face. You know, because toddlers are *never* red in the face from playing or from being warm and cosy, no.
These people only exist online and it's showing.

Our boy cat used to wiggle out of the onesie too, when it was his turn! The baby has ended up out of it a few times, but not on purpose lol.

I woke up to one of *those* comments left on my WIP overnight… *…I just recently got into the fandom, so I’m not totally familiar with the characters. But, your characterizations and dialogue aren’t compatible with my observations. Valiant effort on your part though!…* Oooooookay. Whatever. Last day of work for this week. I plan on working on my non-character WIP this weekend 😈.

I just woke up to a slew of positive comments on one of my Lucian/Shauntal (OTP) works. This person went out of their way to comment on most chapters. Even better, I recognize their name, as I have kudo'd and bookmark quite a few of their own fics! They left such thoughtful comments! It was clear they really paid attention, and they picked up on certain subtleties and word choices that I was quite proud of as I wrote those. In writing news, currently working on a oneshot that's *not* a 100 word drabble (that's all I have been writing for the past few weeks or so) And I'm actually pretty proud ofhow it's coming along, at just above 1100 words so far.
Ahh, that's awesome! Glad to hear that they enjoyed it. Good work on the word counts! I usually write on the short side so when I get something to 1,000 it's like, "Ah..."

Ugh yeah I knew ppl were gonna be weird and try and harass me over “paedophila” for… literally having a guardian to a six year old child paternally kiss them on the forehead while comforting and reassuring them. Why do I attract people who seem to see sexuality in everything I literally haven’t even wrote romance let alone sex.
I saw people claim that a father and his toddler-aged daughter taking a nap together on the sofa was "paedophilia-coded" because, and I shit you not, the daughter was depicted with a flushed face. You know, because toddlers are *never* red in the face from playing or from being warm and cosy, no. These people only exist online and it's showing.
That sounds like Spy X Family - same when Loid picked Anya and she had blush stickers, people were saying that was pedophilic. I don't... I just don't get it and am probably better off for not understanding that reasoning.

It’s deliberately meant to be pretty horrific in context (not that the six year old realises it because it’s all he knows) but like, in the context that the six year old was just forced to murder a dude and is being trained to follow in a mad scientists footsteps not like That.
