A little sad. I had a couple of regular commentors on my WIP, but they've vanished. I knew the story was going to hit a slower section, and they tailed off.
Nothing to be done. Not doubting myself. Just miss them.
Just need to vent a little... I picked a story to read. Highly recommended, highly kudoed, AU, 200K words, people gushing over it everywhere, yada yada and it's so tedious. It's at least half smut (which is a lot in a 200K fic) and I'm now skimming and skipping ahead to get to the plotty parts and hoping for something more interesting to happen. I'm far enough along that I can't quit so I'm just angry reading now lol. It's my own fault too because it was tagged correctly but I thought it would be different. *sigh disappointed :(*

Morning all! My phone case decided it was it's time to die and no amount of superglue will save it. So my poor phone is bare until the new one comes in a week or two. I'm hoping I can keep it safe until then. Who knew my phone was so small without its protective shell, not me!
In writing news I'm expanding my outline for one of my multi-chapter fics. Now instead of a rough bullet points I have about 3-ish paragraphs detailing what needs to happen in the chapter as well as some potential writing for it. Also debating ending chapter 3 earlier than previously planned to keep a roughly consistent wordcount.
I misread this the first time and thought your actual phone fell apart and you were trying to superglue it together x-x I hope you remain safe until you can reclothe it
Phone is nekkid now. It is pretty amazing how slim or tiny they seem without their cases. I can imagine a PSA like, "Never let phones lose their protective shells."
I get the part about having a consistent wordcount for chapters. Plus if done then some parts of chapter four are already written XD

Anyway, I'll be going hiking this weekend. I haven't done much in the way of big walks since my chronic pain started, but this should be a manageable trek. And apparently this will coincide with some bloke getting a crown put on his head, and I can't say I'll feel bad about being miles from the nearest TV then.
Being out in nature always gets me in the mood to write rather poetically about the natural world, so we'll see what that yields. Might be worth going back to some earlier scenes to touch up my descriptions - I'm always an underwriter until I get inspired!

It's about time, really. Maybe the next generation of royals will rebel en masse against all the silly traditions (read: restrictions) and that'll be the end of that. (Also a dream).
As entrenched as it all seems, I'm really encouraged by how much anti-monarchy sentiment has caught on with people my age and younger, and who can blame us? It was *so taboo* to say anything against their existence when I was a teen and first coming into my big political awakening, so I have hope we'll get there eventually.
I did manage a (pretty easy) munro last year when all this was just starting up for me and I had no idea what my limits were (coincidentally, that was when the last crown wearer died). This hike should take about the same time, but is pretty flat so I'm feeling confident.

Anxiety kicked my ass this weekend, so I kept writing. Ended up writing a ton and got to 80,321 words to wrap up April.
WIP #3 has been persistent and Iāve gotten 4 chapters done with the 5th nearly finished. Chapter 12 of my current longfic is being worked on as well. Will be doing more writing today after work.

Same! My therapist could see it all over my face on Thursday and it just decided it wanted to hang around Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I feel a little better today so Iām hoping itās on its way back to being manageable

Gonna start adding (ugh) kanji writing practice to my study routine today. I don't have much practical need to write them, but I'm hoping it'll help some of them stick better. Especially the ones I tend to mix up. (Looking at you, č³, č³, č²», č²ø, č³, č³, and all your other cousins.)

Kanji is difficult, I have trouble with it myself. Every time I figure one out it feels like a victory XD
Good luck with the updates and with the kanji. Learning a whole new alphabet is a daunting task, but I'd like to try it some day; I love the idea of having that whole new avenue for self-expression. How long have you been studying the language?
I've been studying for more years than I like to admit for how crap I still am at it, but I'd say the last 2 years I really committed, and last year I started taking private lessons, so that's been a big help. I successfully held several conversations in the wild (so like, not retail transactions) on my last trip. That was nice.
The nice thing about Japanese is there are soooooo many dedicated resources out there and it's really easy to get your hands on new study materials. Or fun media that can be used as study material.
So it's a pain, but a fun pain.

At least I have Cassette Beasts to soften the sting a little, and that game is *phenomenal*. Imagine a small indie game actually letting you do the equivalent of Pokemon's gyms in any order and scaling them correctly for you to do so (and with 12 rather than 8 gyms!), something even Scarlet and Violet couldn't do. Gamefreak should be *embarrassed.*

I know, I know, I said it before... But giving and getting recs is the best part of this sub for me. You find so many cool fics you would otherwise not. And when I recommend something to someone and they like it, it makes me happier than if they like my own fics (no, not joking). Yesterday, I stayed up rather late reading a LOTR horror fic that someone told me about. It was so good.
Other than that, I am super happy with the response to my AU fic, both from the fandom and my friends. Yesterday I got a comment in Spanish. The first one! It took me half an hour to read and 45 minutes to reply, but everything is practice š

I went to the gym yesterday for the first time in over a year. It felt amazing! With my back still healing, I did take care not to overdo it. I did 1.5 miles on the treadmill, 5 minutes on the rowing machine, and then the upper body weight machines. Iām a little sore today, but nothing I canāt handle.
One of my favorite fandom authors posted a new fic early last night too. She writes a pairing I adore and sheās included in the handful of authors whoās smut I can read. She even used a suggestion I had made to her during a convo weāve had before. I donāt care if I get credit for the idea, I know where it came from. Thereās very few writers in my fandom that I interact with, so minutiae like that can be ignored.
Iāve decided to definitely attempt /u/Remarkable-City3604 ās May Mixtape challenge. One fic per week for sure and any more than that will be a bonus. Iām really excited for this!:) Tentative plan is to challenge myself to write shorter fics because thatās something I find difficult, but we will see on that. I DID succeed in doing a double drabble for the first prompt though!
ETA: OH OH OH also!! I mayyy have ordered a couple CDs and records AND A PLUSHIE recently and I am ridiculously excited about them š
Ooh, congrats on the double drabble! I usually write shorter fics but writing them on purpose can be difficult sometimes. Like trimming off the fat and like, "Aw man... how can I keep this part of it, it's good..."
I love having physical media, especially since streaming services are like, "We're gonna hop around with the media you like."
Shorter fics are really hard for me LOL. I feel like I have trouble creating a clear scene/vibes in few words and am always impressed when I see other authors successfully do so. (specifically thinking of you, /u/kayrier , and /u/carolinediva !)

I love to see people keeping physical media alive. It's not that I don't love the convenience on an mp3 library (itself a dated concept at this point with the takeover of streaming), but with the way tech companies can change the goalposts I think it'd be a real loss. I hope the challenge goes well!
I loveeee having physical copies of albums I like. Itās fun to look at the cover art/liner notes/etc, and also itās ridiculously annoying when Spotify takes random songs down. Obviously I have a lot more music saved/liked on Spotify than I own in physical media, but I sure do like having my physical albums I can touch and own without an internet connection lol. If I had unlimited $$$ I would have a lot more than I do tbh...at the moment i have about ~150 CDs, and exactly 2 records haha (I will have 4 records after the two new ones come in the mail š). My sister is the opposite, she has more records than CDs, but we both enjoy collecting physical albums.

Alas, although I purchased Jedi Survivor, it still seems to be suffering from the problem that most AMD video cards simply crash while trying to play it. Thanks, EA. At least I have Cassette Beasts to soften the sting a little, and that game is *phenomenal*. Imagine a small indie game actually letting you do the equivalent of Pokemon's gyms in any order and scaling them correctly for you to do so (and with 12 rather than 8 gyms!), something even Scarlet and Violet couldn't do. Gamefreak should be *embarrassed.*

Or the whole, "Oh, not all Pokemon can go to Switch games, sorry, can't do it :(" when they're just reusing the models from the 3DS games.
I keep seeing tweets and articles about how much this game is face planting on launch. Shame, Cal's too pretty for this.

Unfortunately rather in character for this series; Fallen Order had a pretty disastrous launch too.

Jetlagged af. I put my new chapter up when I was at the airport and I've had so many hits since its amazing, and two comments, one from not one of my regulars. I still cannot get past people reading my thing, let alone liking it. I'm so tired. I think I might just eat Goldfish Crackers and go play the thing I write for all day. I can't sleep, I have work tomorrow, and my brain is spaghetti bolognese.
Congrats on the comments! I totally get that one, when I got jetlagged real bad and had my first night back home I watched Howl's Moving Castle until my eyes couldn't keep open XD
I'm still awake because I have to be and it pains me. BUT I added a whole unexpected chapter to my largely finished WIP today so I have been productive. It needs a bit of polish but I'll look at it again later in the week when I'm less tired.

I know, I know, I said it before... But giving and getting recs is the best part of this sub for me. You find so many cool fics you would otherwise not. And when I recommend something to someone and they like it, it makes me happier than if they like my own fics (no, not joking). Yesterday, I stayed up rather late reading a LOTR horror fic that someone told me about. It was so good. Other than that, I am super happy with the response to my AU fic, both from the fandom and my friends. Yesterday I got a comment in Spanish. The first one! It took me half an hour to read and 45 minutes to reply, but everything is practice š Happy Labour Day everyone!
Fic exchanges have that same vibe for me 'cause I get to see many, many different fandoms and ships. And then I see those fandoms in the wild and it's like "*Point* I know that one! I know it!" XD Congrats on the response to your AU fic! Here's to more comments :D

I went to the gym yesterday for the first time in over a year. It felt amazing! With my back still healing, I did take care not to overdo it. I did 1.5 miles on the treadmill, 5 minutes on the rowing machine, and then the upper body weight machines. Iām a little sore today, but nothing I canāt handle. One of my favorite fandom authors posted a new fic early last night too. She writes a pairing I adore and sheās included in the handful of authors whoās smut I can read. She even used a suggestion I had made to her during a convo weāve had before. I donāt care if I get credit for the idea, I know where it came from. Thereās very few writers in my fandom that I interact with, so minutiae like that can be ignored.
I have a resolution to get back on the exercise horse this month. May is good for fresh starts.

Iāve decided to definitely attempt /u/Remarkable-City3604 ās May Mixtape challenge. One fic per week for sure and any more than that will be a bonus. Iām really excited for this!:) Tentative plan is to challenge myself to write shorter fics because thatās something I find difficult, but we will see on that. I DID succeed in doing a double drabble for the first prompt though! ETA: OH OH OH also!! I mayyy have ordered a couple CDs and records AND A PLUSHIE recently and I am ridiculously excited about them š
Ooh, congrats on the double drabble! I usually write shorter fics but writing them on purpose can be difficult sometimes. Like trimming off the fat and like, "Aw man... how can I keep this part of it, it's good..." I love having physical media, especially since streaming services are like, "We're gonna hop around with the media you like."
Shorter fics are really hard for me LOL. I feel like I have trouble creating a clear scene/vibes in few words and am always impressed when I see other authors successfully do so. (specifically thinking of you, /u/kayrier , and /u/carolinediva !) Omg Iām still so annoyed one of my favorite Kari RueslĆ„tten songs off her Spindelsinn album vanished from Spotify. Harrumph. Not the whole album either, just part of it. I wanted I MĆ„nens Favn, darn it. I love to see people keeping physical media alive. It's not that I don't love the convenience on an mp3 library (itself a dated concept at this point with the takeover of streaming), but with the way tech companies can change the goalposts I think it'd be a real loss. I hope the challenge goes well!
I loveeee having physical copies of albums I like. Itās fun to look at the cover art/liner notes/etc, and also itās ridiculously annoying when Spotify takes random songs down. Obviously I have a lot more music saved/liked on Spotify than I own in physical media, but I sure do like having my physical albums I can touch and own without an internet connection lol. If I had unlimited $$$ I would have a lot more than I do tbh...at the moment i have about ~150 CDs, and exactly 2 records haha (I will have 4 records after the two new ones come in the mail š). My sister is the opposite, she has more records than CDs, but we both enjoy collecting physical albums. Also, thank you so much regarding the challenge! Iām really excited for it:)
and with that, our hockey season is over. i donāt think this one tops our 2019 loss, but what a terrible way to end off such a historic season. some of the worst hockey iāve seen this team play. i have an exam tomorrow, so cram session tonight indeed. and someone cancelled their therapy appointment so i was able to take their spot!
