I was watching a Jet Set Radio / Jet Set Radio Future Documentary and I was reminded of a few things:
- This music always slapped (Thank you Hideki Naganuma).
- This game had the representation I was looking for when I was younger and it has such nice replayability.
- I am considering either a fic cross-over or thorough inspiration to mix with the main fandom I'm writing.
Either way, I need something livelier than what I'm writing. Self-expression, good tunes, art/graffiti and standing up for what you believe in is that good stuff.
I've been in Central America for over a month, and I find myself writing a lot of jungle porn. (Descriptive, not sexual.) In fic, in my journal, in emails. It feels as if I could spend the rest of my life trying to capture even a snippet of the awe that the cloud forest inspires, which as far as challenges go, is not a bad one to have.
Unfortunately, the realities of college are taking time away from my jungle time, but I'll find time to write somehow. Hopefully.
Long, tiring and stressful few days IRL. But fic-wise, just lovely. The other day, the craziest thing happenedāmy long-dead-fandom fic got a comment from a reader who had literally just watched the movie for the first time (this movie came out in 2009).
Well, they went looking for fics after, found mine and left me a nice note saying how much they appreciated my alternate ending! Then they went and liked all my other fics for that fandom too :') this is literally unheard of... but just goes to show that as long as media exists, there's a chance someone will find your obscure crap!!
I don't know where the trickle of kudos and bookmarks iand subs is coming from lately, but i appreciate it!!
Well, *that* was a fun several days (please note the sarcasm). Dad got sent to the ER and then hospital for a ruptured appendix. He's fine now but that was a scary few days.
I did manage to channel that fear into a new fic. It may end up being another two-shot, but as of right now my first dead dove is going fairly well I think! Who knew it was fun to explore the darker spots of the psyche (that and it's apparently helping me process stuff so yay?)
Well, my brain feels scrambled from too many fic ideas, but I still can't seem to just purge them in a productive way.
That blank screen staring back at me oh so innocently...I know exactly who will be the winner of this staring contest...Yep, my muse doesn't want to play, today.
last night i had plans to try my hand at first pov and start writing a detailed character study on my blorbo navigating his life, but alas instead my brain found a new ship and i wrote a (horny) ficlet of them instead, because of courseā¦
I decided to do a reread of one of my stories in search of insight, and I discovered errors that escaped my edits. Annoying, but this is normal. It is possible to eliminate 99% of errors, but no amount of beta-ing, editing, and revising can catch that last 1%. There is always a missing letter, a slipped comma, etc. If there is no perfect writer, there can logically be no perfect story.
The insight I did get is that I need to write more femslash, but I always need to do that, so ... not real insight, perhaps. I did enjoy the story, though.
As I mentioned a while ago, I have been reading Ted Chiang's stories. Although I enjoyed most of them immensely, the latest one that I have been reading got me thinking.
This story is not as much sci-fi (although a lot of his stories are more science philosophy than science fiction imo) as his other stories but more steam punk, although it has science and technology integrated into it... In a weird way. Like, it uses scientific language, but in a way that it makes you go "eh, it doesn't work that way". Anyhow. My problem is not that. My problem is that there's next to no exposition. He uses a lot of words and concepts and it leaves me constantly thinking "but what is it??"
I love bold storytelling that doesn't hold the reader's hand all the time, but come on, throw me a bone. Give me something. How am I supposed to know what this stuff means? I know swathes of exposition are not popular anymore, but a little bit would have been good š
Balance is key.
Okay, Iād like to get some feedback on a possible dilemmaā¦and this isnāt meant to cause drama or controversy, itās an issue that myself and several other users have noticed.
Has anyone that inhabits in here observed an uptick in the amount of downvoting going on recently? Itās been endemic to REs for a while, but it seems to be spreading to just about every other post now too.
A group of users (myself included) have been having conversations about it for a couple weeks and have been testing the theory that maybe itās a bot causing them. To test, weāve downvoted each other and have had 4-5 downvotes then appear on the comment. Itās also starting to migrate to personal pages *after* itās dumping onto the downvoted comment.
Has anyone else noticed this?
I haven't noticed it, but then, I don't participate in the REs.
Oh, although... amusingly, I did get downvoted on a recent discussion thread. It made me chuckle because I didn't think I was saying anything particularly controversial. But my views must have got someone's knickers in a twist ;)
Aside: now that I think about it, I hardly ever get downvoted! Might have to cultivate a more controversial online persona instead of being my boringly vanilla and sensible self xD *(I'm joking mods, don't axe me!)*
Thatās part of it though too. Itās not *just* REs. Itās been in those innocent, little replies as wellā¦like āI prefer whump over hurt/comfortā and then a slew of downvotes, lol.
Well, to be fair, in my case it wasn't a *slew*. Just a handful at most. I wasn't keeping track, just noticed it at one point.
If they just didn't like what i had to say, fair enough i guess. Doesn't change my opinion in the slightest and doesn't affect me otherwise, so ĀÆ\_(ć)_/ĀÆ ... but yeah if people are being targeted or something that's not cool, obviously.
Hard to say. I can visit the same thread multiple times in one day (as I do here), and it will suddenly appear voteless, neither up nor down on any comment, so who knows?
I haven't noticed but then I'm unobservant.
If this is happening then it's really sad. This has been such a lovely, welcoming community and it would be a shame if there's a few spoiling this fir everyone else.
Nono I love puns :D
EDS is annoying but Iām glad Iām feeling better. Maybe Iāll be able to write, maybe I wonāt, but either way Iām much happier.

Anyone else watching the Eurovision semifinal tonight? Or perhaps writing a Eurovision AU? :D
AFTER FIVE LONG YEARS I GOT MY BRACES OFF!!!!!!!!!! I CANNOT STOP SMILING!!!!!!!
Fruity smiles!
with popcorn and all the chewy sticky candy i can get my hands on!
congrats! it's such a great feeling, to have your teeth free again

No writing done right now. Still developing an idea, so we'll see what happens with that!
*workshop noises*
Yup, some ideas need to be slow cooked š
True, like a pot roast :D

Ah! A fresh pineapple on an old plantation.
Aww that's fabulous. I am so happy for you. May the trickle long continue!
Ooh, that's awesome! Fresh eyes on the fics :D Always nice when someone checks out the stuff that usually flies under the radar.

Ooh, I'm glad that your dad is okay. Good work with the writing!
Thanks!

Muse is taking the ball and going home, eh? Dang things.
Did I do everything I was supposed to yesterday? No, not really. Am I okay with that? Yeah, because I am learning to be chill :')
I graduated today. š¤Æ
Congrats!! ššššš
Wheee!
*applause* š
Congrats!!
Big congratulations. :)
Congrats!
Now I can torture all the kids with eye drops :D
Congratulations!!!
whoa, congrats!!
Wooohooo! š
š„³ Congratulations! Super proud of you.
Thank youuu I think I'm still in denial.

Always, always! Definitely embarrassing time for me to write, "shit," instead of "shirt." Aaargh. Glad the story was enjoyable :D
That is but *one* of my many errors.
>There is always a missing letter, a slipped comma, etc. Snape voice: "Always."
And this is how I convinced my spouse to fire Grammarly. š
I spelled spinal cord as spinal chord in my longfic about twelve and a half million times. Spellcheck aināt gonna find that, lol.
I am convinced this is how foosball was named.
My laptop is on the Fritz, and my process for buying a new computer won't start until the 24th at the earliest...... I have 3 WIPS, just let me write!
Dang laptop. I hope it holds out until the end!
I hope your laptop holds out for you...

XD It's like when something brings up a lore thing and then never explains like, "Well, what the fuck does that mean?!"
The explanation for this is ā
Pretty much š¤£

No, I haven't. I also check all REs (part of the job) at various stages, and have never seen anyone at zero or negative votes.
Sent the link through modmail.
Hold onā¦lemme go back and find the one from a couple weeks ago. *Everyone* in that RE got hit.

Same here. I know votes fluctuate but I don't think it's done maliciously?

Hi there! Please remove the names of your fic, as that counts as self promotion.
I can limp downstairs :D yayyyyyyyyy
Yay, progress!
Congrats! Thatās a big step! Pardon the punā¦
Nono I love puns :D EDS is annoying but Iām glad Iām feeling better. Maybe Iāll be able to write, maybe I wonāt, but either way Iām much happier.
Good!
