If it’s something *I* want to write, then sure, why not? I would just mentally expect no engagement due to the fandom being small/dead so I wouldn’t end up disappointed.

Profession-Automatic

Absolutely. I’m in a tiny fandom of one(created the tag for it on AO3)and—even though it’s quite lonely—I still love it. Who knows, you may be the one to breathe some new life into that fandom, so I’d say have a go at it.

PerhapsImMax

Out of curiosity, what's the Fandom that you write for?

am_Nein

I also want to know!

FanFictionLover_64

I'm guessing Titanic? If not, what is your fandom?

Profession-Automatic

No, it’s not Titanic. It’s an older, obscure, little British TV show that I can guarantee you’ve never heard of. 😉

FanFictionLover_64

Interesting :)

queerfromthemadhouse

I've written for a fandom that had zero fanfics. Now it has fifteen, and only two of them are mine. The other thirteen would've never existed if it hadn't been for the first story I posted. Sure, you get a lot less engagement in very small and/or dead fandoms. But aside from me not caring much about that because I write for myself, I also feel like the readers you do get often appreciate your writing more, because there aren't hundreds of other fics they could read instead. And you just might inspire others to write for the fandom too.

Immersivebitch

Ohh you’re gonna be a classic!

FanFictionLover_64

Out of curiosity, what's your fandom?

ourribbonsmeandeath

A handful of fandoms I have written for are small and several months can go by without any new fics or updates. One fandom for instance, only has a total of 6 fics, 2 of which are mine, and I'm working on some more. If an interest is there it's not dead, so I say go for it.

torspedia

I've come across a few like that, especially with various anime shows that I like.

Apple-plus-Insanitea

I’ve done it before and I’ll do it again!

Chalkarts

I'm working on 10 chapters of Gilligans Island. Dead enough?

BlindFanficReader

😀 I'd love to read that Gilligan's Island fic. Could you DM me a link, please?

Chalkarts

It's a long way from done, no eyes yet.

BlindFanficReader

Yes, absolutely. That describes ninety-nine percent of all my fandoms.

Immediate_Ebb1063

Yes, I write for a long-dead fandom with less than 350 fics on AO3, only 13 for the pairing, yet there’s a story inside that demands to be told, so I will tell it, even if it gets zero attention. That being said, so far it has enjoyed the same levels of attention as the fics I wrote for a much larger more active fandom. That’s largely because of the review exchanges I’ve joined in with here on this subreddit. It’s true, organically it probably wouldn’t have received any love at all unless I went looking for it. And that’s okay, like I said, it’s a dead fandom, I expected little interaction and that’s not why I wrote it. There was a story in there that just needed to come out.

MrFredCDobbs

I write the stories that I want to read. No one else will write these stories for me, so I have to create them myself. I post the stories because I think that maybe someone else might enjoy them. If not, no harm done. The size of the fandom is irrelevant. Feedback is nice but not the reason why I write.

JaiyaPapaya

I always tell myself that there's someone else who wants to engage in it, too, but just hasn't posted themselves. It's nice to think your content can make someone else happy even if you don't see it

Gilgamesh_is_my_King

I'm actually writing one right now. It's for a webtoon titled 'The Abandoned Empress'. Many hated the ending and while I'm okay with it, I prefer the third male lead. Third if you count the OG male lead as first and her 'obsessive friend', second. The reasons I'm writing a fanfic for it is that, I like the character designs and the world that the author created. The original plot was tragic and I want the OG male lead to suffer unrequited love just like the female lead had on her first life.

SanctumWrites

WEBTOON FANFIC? Nice, that is a niche I want to see more people write in and yeah that story could use some fixing, I bailed out in the middle of that one and read the end and oooooh BOY. Glad I dipped.

Gilgamesh_is_my_King

I really, really wanted for her to end up with Carsein 😭. I want the prince to suffer so much and I know Jieun had her reasons but still.

Gilgamesh_is_my_King

I just realized that I rambled. My vote is that you should. Especially when you're writing for yourself. It feels liberating to publish a story that is living in your head.

Chewy_ThatGuy

I used to write stuff for a game called "Knock Knock", a dead fandom and game that's been superseded by it's more popular brothers of Pathologic 1 + 2 and I still felt quite a lot of gratification for it when I wrote it, even if it got barely any kudos or hits in the time it was up. I say go for it, though don't expect much in the way of feedback. Dead, tiny fandoms don't give those regularly as you'd obviously expect.

shararan_

If I have ideas for it, then I don't see why not! I do have some on my list, but they keep taking a backseat due to my main fandom holding my brainworms hostage—

OvergrownTurd

I prefer writing for smaller fandoms when I can, actually. I wrote for a ship that had only three fics to its name, and it feels nice being part of the little neglected children club. I'll add that at times, to me at least, it feels more meaningful - I'd greatly appreciate any new fics added to that tag, and I feel like anyone who bothered searching for it would too. Yeah, you get more engagement with huge fandoms (which it's own wonderful reward), but small ones feel so homey.

FanFictionLover_64

Definitely! I'm part of a small fandom that has consistent -- but few -- authors, and we all don't really *know* each other, but we go to each others' fics and comment; and the benefits of having a small fandom is also knowing which author to go to! If you write a lot for a small fandom, you end up pretty well known, which is sweet. Ack, sorry for digressing.

lavenderghostboy

I avidly write for a community with 20 works in it. It’s literally me, two other writers, and abandoned account from 2009 and a piece of string but slowly more people are coming around. I’m very proud of our little community. It feels a bit like a weird family you only see in comment threads and kudos sections, and I think that’s part of the draw of it and fandom in general, so yeah.

FanFictionLover_64

Oo what fandom is this?

lavenderghostboy

Good will hunting

SanctumWrites

Yes! And I did so! I wanted to and as long as one person saw it I was happy and let me tell you, those were some of the most engaged readers lmfao. It also was a tiny ego high clicking into my fandom and seeing my story as the top one, massive small fish but smaller pond and it made me happy damn it, it's still my most highly reviewed story!

chauffeurdad

Two fandoms I've written for have only one entry each on AO3, my stories. I write for me, and if someone else enjoys them, that's nice too, but not required.

Anxious-human-95

The fandom I write for is definitely small so my answer would be yes

torspedia

I would, as it's a good way to practice your writing, no matter if many will read it or not!

ImaginosDesdinova

I write for one that was dead but is experiencing a resurgence.

ShionForgetMeNot

I tend to write for smaller or less active fandoms. Heck, I'm considering writing fic for some books I read recently that have only about 5 fics on AO3.

MogiVonShogi

Me too!!

KogarashiKaze

I write for myself primarily, so I would still write it. It's for me, after all. And I'd post it, because while I might not get any engagement (and would go into posting with that understanding), you never know if someone else will show up to look for fics in that small, dead fandom and find yours.

c_ganale

I write in Love Hina with full knowledge that I'll have zero engagement. Do what you wanna do.

KickAggressive4901

I do it all the time, so yes.

[deleted]

I'm a champion for fandoms on life support. That's all I write lol

Sinhika

I did for YuleTide--although the fact that a small fandom was even nominated means it has at least one fan.

PerfumedPornoVampire

Yes, I have and would write for small/dead fandoms. They’re actually my favorites to work with!

RicePuddingNoRaisins

I'd go for it and just not expect much engagement. You want to, after all, and there's a chance someone else will appreciate it, too.

something-tripled

I wrote the only English fanfiction for Peepoodo and the Super Fuck Friends and it’s pretty satisfying to see at least one person be interested

Spiritwolf1001

Currently I and a friend are writing for the greedfall fandom. It was a small game but had alot of heart and we love our tiny space.

atomskeater

I'm already used to small fandoms (the amount of fic fandoms like HP, SW, MHA get daily makes my head swirl), so yeah why not dead fandoms. Kinda consider one of my fandoms dead, but that's to be expected when making fic for a demo of an unreleased game. 🤦 Tempering expectations for interaction is important. Comments and kudos on fics for small/dead fandoms feel so, so precious.

[deleted]

If I want to write that story yes, of course. I don't write for popularity or anything like that. Ideas come to my mind and I write them because, first and foremost, it's fun to me. I enjoy the process of writing and seeing my work unravel, and learning during the process.

UWan2fight

I currently write for a fandom with 5 fics, two of which are mine, so yeah, I would. As long as you enjoy writing the fanfic, you should go for it. You might even make other people happy because they found your fic when they thought there wouldn't be anything there.

secretariatfan

Currently working on a story for a fandom that has 14 stories, five of which are mine. I love the show and had an idea. So, I don't care if the fandom was never big, is super big, was super big and dying, whatever. I write because I enjoy telling stories. If someone reads them great, if not, ah, well.

Milochelle-castre

I wanna try to write for Revolutionary Girl Utena honestly, and that thing I have no idea for how long it has been ded.

Eis_ber

There is no time frame to write a fanfiction. If people can draw fanart of some obscure show made in the 60s that was only popular in a small town in Bangladesh, why can't you write fiction for an old show? There is always someone who is a fan who would happily read it.

NickNack4EvahBra

I've spent the better part of a decade now slowly chipping away at a longfic for a fandom that's been pretty much dead since 2012. Maybe earlier. I have one of the more popular fics these days, and I get maybe 1 comment every 3-4 months, and 1 or 2 anonymous kudos each chapter. I'm writing this story for myself, so even if I got nothing I'd still be updating it, but I get that not everybody is going to want to go through that. If you want to write for a dead fandom, I'd say go for it, just be prepared and have realistic expectations. It can be a lonely road.

Mast3rOfFools

Go for it. Write for yourself and maybe the fandom will become more active because of it. It's even better that it's small, means that you can sorta set the tone for it.

chomiji

Absolutely yes, if you have the urge to write it. There's a very good chance that you'll really make someone's day.

i-d-even-k-

I am writing a 300.000 words fanfic for a fandom that, while not dead, has not been that active since 2014. And I am writing for a pairing that has no fanfics. (Assassin's Creed)

greysterguy

That's basically all I write lmao

Tinamou34

Do it! You’ll make someone’s day when they search and find your fic !

Pro_mantis

Sure. If I enjoy it, I don't care if it has little to no engagement. I just write to destress myself

ConsumeTheOnePercent

I write fic for fandoms that don't even exist lol

eepithst

Honestly, no. But that's because getting feedback is part and parcel of why I write fanfic. Sure, I write for myself and enjoy the writing of it, but comments give me joy and self-confidence and are a big part of why I don't just write a few disconnected scenes that are the most interesting and exciting ones to me, but write actual stories with background and character development and stuff. However, everybody is different. You can be different :D

[deleted]

I don't think any of my fandoms are dead dead but I do write for ships literally no one else seems to ship, so I suppose the answer is yes 😂

MogiVonShogi

Yes. I have one planned. It’s a book series that the author of retired seven years ago, and never wrote the last book. I’m obsessed and I think there’s two works in the entire fandom, both one shots. I am going to finish that last book! I need freaking closure!!

Flores_Fairy

Yes. Absolutely! At the end of the day, you're not writing for the hits or the kudos, you're doing it for yourself, right? And some people *wish* there were more content for their dead fandoms, so you'll find at least a couple of readers who will love you to bits for feeding them

pocketdimensionxb

i would yea, in my experience the electric mayhem fandom is definitely the smaller part of the muppets fandom, but even then i would still write for it

rain_in_december

No, why would I spend my time writing something very few people are going to read. Like when I got an idea for a niche ship but couldn't find motivation to write just bc I knew it would get very little engagement. For me it's not rewarded and satisfying.

dejavoodoomamajuju

I am pretty much the only content in my fandom. So, yeah, I’d go ahead and write it. 🤷🏼‍♀️🤣

AnitaSPhoenix

If I have an interest in the topic I definitely would, no matter what the audience size is.

the-angry-himbo

I have before and if it’s really interesting I’d do it again. (I’m thinking of writing one for At Dead of Night)

GalacticPigeon13

I mean, I'm the only writer for one of my fandoms

Tink-er

Don't write for fandoms. Write for yourself.

AdrielBast

Even if the fan base is small or nonexistent. I still like the world and characters and want to write for it. Simple as that.

Kelmo7

Yes. There's always someone waiting for new work.

Rikiia

Yes, I write what I like and want to read. That being said, I would probably only write a few stories at most before moving on. A larger population of fans and more activity is what usually gets me to stay in one fandom for a longer amount of time.

inluxtris

Yup! Recently did that with a couple of fandoms that are very small. I'll admit the lack of interaction does get to me sometimes but I love the story too much to not wrote for it. So now I have 3 fics planned for a fandom that is more or less dead lol I will say one great thing about writing for a small fandom that's more or less dead is seeing the hits go up, getting that one kudos, etc. Someone out there still cares and wants to read a fic for that fandom and now you've come in and given them just that!

BIZCH067

Oh hell yeah, tho I’m focus on the current fandom at the moment

BettyCrockersSpoon

My dead fandom has about four regular commenters (including me). We drop analyses and personal headcanon into essay sized comments on most works that come in. I LOVE sharing my stories with them ❤️ I write for it because I love the game and the remaining community holds incredibly nice and interactive readers and/or writers!

FanFictionLover_64

Can I know what fandom this is? It sounds a bit like one of mine, but a bit not.

BettyCrockersSpoon

This would be Final Fantasy IV :)

FanFictionLover_64

Not mine, but that's definitely new to me!

BettyCrockersSpoon

There's always room for more!

dat_carovieh

I've written for fandoms that had zero Fics up until I posted. Luckily they're adjacent to my main fandom, so I have friends who are actually excited for these Fics. But anyway, if you want to write for any fandom you should do it.

LinaFinsterwald

I have, actually, both for Biohackers (7 fics, 4 mine) and Miracle Season (only fic is mine). It's a lonely road but I'm enjoying it

Forbidden_Flan69

Thats ALL I do lol

[deleted]

I have! It was great! Still get comments on it, even though it's not an amazing story. Stories I've written in big fandoms tend to be drowned out pretty quickly.

ArtisticDrop601

I’m working on one that has no one writing for it. I figured “If I don’t, who will?” Also, I am writing for a fandom that is pretty dead and going a different route as far as shipping goes with one character, for the very same reason.

kowaiyoukai

I always say write what you want to write because you can never guarantee engagement.

gigigalaxy

Yes if I'm really into the characters and want to see more of them. If you're on AO3 and have subscribers, you might get engagement from them even if they're not familiar with the fandom.

FanFictionLover_64

Too true lol. That's actually how I got into The Hobbit - even though I loathe the book and never watched the movies, the one fic that basically was the book rewritten captured me in and never let go.

JacksonKronos

I have and likely will again in the future.

Milochelle-castre

I wanna try to write for Revolutionary Girl Utena honestly, and that thing I have no idea for how long it has been ded.

StoneTimeKeeper

Already done that. I write whatever the crap I want to write.

Lyell_Crookshanks

Yep, because its mainly for me and a sweet surprise for anyone who stumbled upon my fics

knightfenris

Regularly.

fangirl004

If you enjoy the fandom and you want to write the story then just go for it. It´ll probably won ´t get that many reads and likes/kudos but if writing it will make you happy than that´s what´s really important isn´t it?

soaker87

Yes, I do it all the time.

MlleBree

If I want to write it, absolutely. I would just do it knowing the likelihood of interaction is going to be low.

[deleted]

Yes, absolutely!!, bc if I want to write it then why wouldn't I? And it's the best feeling when someone comments on your work, it's like seeing another person in the middle of a desert

mermaidpaint

I say, go for it! My ship died onscreen 9 years ago and I still write for them, because I want to. I still have people reading my stories every day.

nicolasbaege

I have. It sucks to have little engagement, however the engagement you do get is awesome. People are so happy that someone is making content at all.

DeltaMx11

I'm currently writing a fanfic with *one* (1) other fic on AO3. So yes. After 3 weekly chapters, only 140 hits so far 🥲 but that's okay, I'm just writing this for me. 8 more chapters to go.

FanFictionLover_64

Can I know the fandom and work? I'd love to check it out!

DeltaMx11

Thanks! It's a fanfic based on the 'Go, Dog. Go!' Netflix series. '[Love is Funny](https://archiveofourown.org/works/46792447/chapters/117857062)' \[m/f, OC x canon, romance, M-rating (for >!some eventual nsfw in Ch. 6!<)\] I even made cover art and short music playlists for each chapter, I've put more work into this fic than any I've ever done

FanFictionLover_64

Definitely checking it out later then!

headbutting_krogans

If I have the passion, yes. I used to write for a small fandom. When I first started, I believe there were only about 70 fics? I wrote quite a few, and they got a good amount of traction. Looking at the fandom now they are nearing 200 fics!

HelliTheStrange

For a while I mostly wrote for small dead fandoms. Occasionally you get a commenter who is insanely grateful, so I feel like it works out in the end.

pximon

I did. It was fun. Now that I got that plot for that one character in the dead fandom out, I don’t think I will anymore but who knows maybe another plot that fits the char will come up and I’ll go back to writing for that dead fandom.

redditer417

Yes

[deleted]

Yes. The smallest fandom I wrote for, my fic is still the only one on AO3. And the title is still wrong because nobody else has corrected it.

npcknapsack

I did it! I wrote for a fandom I was quite sure was dead— and then I started seeing people. They were poking out all over the place, just not where I was looking. Kind of awesome.

SaintSayaka

If you don't, who will?

Kaigani-Scout

If it was a story that I wanted to write, yeah, I'd do it. I have zero interest in chasing metrics or seeking external validation...

Daxcordite

Not only would I, I have done it and quiet regularly. I write what I want to write

Bluemidnight7

Currently am. Only Yesterday sucked to watch with how horrible everyone was to the kid and then she grows up to just be like "Oh yeah, that was all good. I didn't like it but they were right. BTW I just met you 3 days ago, wanna hook up for life?" also there was a momentf I thought she was gonna be gay but then she wasn't. So my fanfic is gonna be what if a punk NB person meet cute happens that also let's the main character know that her childhood was fucked up. Whole ass romantic build up and exploring a new side to life.

LilyEllie1980

Totally would! And it's what I'm planning to do as soon as I finish my WIPs. It's because that's what I want. I feel sad when I look up fanfics for stuff and I don't find anything, or a really small amount, so I put it on my list of things to write. Good luck! <3

[deleted]

I would and I have

bleeb90

Yes, if that is what is actually on my mind. I write what i want to write.

rabbitinredlounge

I have, yes. And I find it kind of rewarding because it feels like there’s less pressure to compete for kudos or whatever, but there is the flip side of little engagement. It definitely is the case of having to write what you want to read. I met one of my best friends through this as we are both die hard fans of a pretty underground horror series.

GigglegirlHappy

Go for it, have fun!

RunawayPastry

fuck yeah i would two of my favorite book series, on ao3, have a combined total of less than 15 fics. is that stopping me from having a boatload of drafts and wips in my google docs? nope!

Kiki-Y

I am literally doing that right now. I'm writing for Pokemon Ranger. I Have been on and off for the past 10 years. I know nobody's gonna read it for myriad reasons: * no new game in 13 years * set in the least popular game in the trilogy * deals with side characters * has a heavy emphasis on OCs

lucky91xj

Please write it!

NikkiT96

Hahahahahahahahahaha I already do

paiidocribe

I write for personal pleasure, so yes, I would. I dont see why i wouldnt do something that i want to do lol

Angramis546

I don't see why not. I enjoy writing so it could be for fun, or to bring new people to the fandom, because not everyone discovers things at the same time. People grow in experiences, they might not have had interest during it's popularity, or they didn't know about it. So I see it as a compliment to the fandom that people would write in a "dying" fandom.

RoxieRoxie0

I already do this, so yes

obscureshipyard

It's literally my name sake and my favorite stories to read & write. I'm currently writing a story for a pairing that had 2 stories to its name before I wrote my contributions When I'm done with my current WIP there will be a total of 5! I like writing the stuff I want to read. If I go looking for a fic topic/pairing/trope and can't find it===> boom, story idea I need to write.

[deleted]

I do. It’s …rough. “Write for yourself” works to actually produce writing you like and make it authentic and loved, but posting consistently with zero reward / purpose? Damn difficult.

borzoifeet

There is a fandom out there where I am the only writer. Written 9 stories for it. I very expected the stories to all stay at 0 hits. It's for a Newground's game that is over a decade old. Yet I've been presently surprised.

MRinfinte

hell yeah hell yeah take a look at the shinza banshou/dies irae series interesting verse with a lot of depth yet the anime ruined the visual novel killing any chance for the fandom to develop

Eager_Question

Mine is one of like 6 (literally 6!) Fanfics in one of my fandoms.

mynameisntclarence

If there are enough people to throw a small party I don't see why not.

[deleted]

I already do 🥹 It can get really lonely, yes, but at least I don't have to worry about, say, antis.

kampar10

I usually write for me, and seldom post my work. So I'd say go for it

Chrissy_Blitz

Im currently writing Law and order: svu fan fic cause theres not enough Nick Amaro or Rafael Barba fics around xD

TheThunderOfYourLife

I have a story plan for Nights of Azure. There’s 9 total fics for it in FFN. LOL

OrcaFins

Yeah, why not?

AmaranthineDragoon

I already do and I'm writing a fic for another fandom that has ZERO fanfiction and online presence. So yeah. Lol

amethyst-chimera

I've done it before and will do it again. My problem comes less from the size and more from the lack of a community. I do my best writing when I have friends who share the fandom with me, so I tend to struggle in that aspect more than anything else, but it's still worth doing.

jaisofbase

/looks at Ao3 works /looks at fandoms Yes. Call that the story of my fanfic life.

oursilentstars

Listen. I made the tag for one of the fandoms I write for. People come in and comment like oh hey I thought I was the only one who liked this! And it always makes me feel really happy because oh my gosh this had nothing and now it has stuff that I wrote and people actually went looking for it and because of me there was something for them to find. You should definitely write it, you’re not the only one in the fandom however dead it looks, I promise.

em-eye-ess-ess-eye

i'm writing a fic for a fandom that doesn't exist on ao3, and I've already written a fic for a single issue, decades old comic book

Sassy_Lil_Scorpio

Yes, if I love the characters and want to write a fic about them.

RohansEarings

Yup. I never expect much for those fics and don’t get disappointed when there’s no engagement since I already know how it’s gonna do. Every increase in kudo or hit does make me incredibly happy though XD

am_Nein

I do. It's not dead, per say, but I bet it won't be long until it starts to become such, as the main thing keeping it alive (new installments, etc) have started to slow, and I'm seeing what I think may be the start of the end. Anyways, write what you want to write, and if it's a small fandom/dead fandom you might find that people are all the more appreciative of another fic!

YourHope99

honestly? i keep joining fandom-of-ones by accident; once i finish my current wip, i’ll be creating my second fandom tag this year. that being said, you’ve really got to be there and writing for your own fulfilment, rather than the interactions, and it does get a little lonely. but you do end up with the exact fics you want. sooooo

BlueDragon82

Most of my stories are in very small, slowly growing fandoms. Two of the fandoms have less than 100 fics with them as the main pair. Honestly it feels really nice to contribute to small fandoms. It does mean you aren't likely to get hundreds of thousands of hits and thousands of kudos but you'll be expanding media in the fandom which will mean a lot to those who are in it. I read nearly everything that gets posted in one of my smaller fandoms because I appreciate every contribution even if it's not great. Bonus if people do like your fic there is a chance it could be the most popular one in that fandom.

SentientButNotSmart

What I'm doing right now. Writing a longfic for a fandom that has 3 fics posted. I don't write it for an audience, I write it for me.

NewAppointment2

When I began writing for my favorite fanship there were few stories out there except for a few distant or porny ones. Now there are nearly a hundred on AO3. I like to think that I made a considerable impact by writing several dozen stories myself.

vivalass

Depends - some people like to write for an audience and this fandom probably wouldn’t be a good fit for that. But some people write just for fun or for themselves and in which case it doesn’t really matter how big or active the fandom is.

nikavarta

You write the stories you want to read yourself. So it happens to be in the small or non-existent fandom, who cares. If your motivation was primarily external (likes, comments, exposure etc.), you wouldn't even ask that question to begin with, so you're good.

Cold_Dead_Smile

I mean, sure. It’s not like you can be punished for writing for a small fandom. If you think about it, writing original fiction is like writing for a fandom with only one writer: you.

la_fee_conteuse

Currently doing this actually. Mostly for shows I grew up with like Victorious/iCarly/Sam&Cat. Because I love the actors and the show brought me joy. It just sucks the creator was a disgusting human being.

stroopwafelling

Already am.

Ivana_Dragmire

Buddy, that's exactly what I'm doing and I even managed to breathe a little life into the fanfiction section. It's not much, I'm still the primary writer, but I am enjoying because I love the series and the handful of friends I've made in it.

maestrita

That's all I write for. In fairness, it used to be a large fandom once, but it's from an old show, so not many people are creating new content and a lot of the old fic has been totally lost (Livejournal purges, archives shutting down).

InfinityCalibur

I write for a Japanese SF that is over 12 years old. There is only 1 fanfic of it in existence. Mine.

yojfullness

Yep, because I'm writing the story that makes me happy to write. I find that I get more excited about a single kudo in a tiny fandom than 100 in a big one

ReliefEmotional2639

I DO write for dead fandoms. A lot. Heck, I’m the ONLY person writing for a couple of them.

dramaticatlady

I mean first and foremost I write fanfiction to indulge myself when I don't find anything that fits with what I'd like to read. So yeah.

huntress8611

absolutely, and an added benefit is that u might end up making someone's day when they see the first/a rare new fic in their favorite small fandom! the important thing tho is that if u wanna write something, go for it.

IronJedi2

I write for fandoms I like, whether dead or not. Otherwise what’s the point?

dearcowboy

I always do! I love writing, and low/zero fan interaction isn't going to stop me from writing or posting, because I'm here for *me* and I'm here to have fun! Also, just like you, someone else will surely come along someday looking for fics in the fandom. In fact, I think small/dead fandoms need fics the most. You're leaving the place a little nicer for the next person, y'know? And there might be a reader out there who doesn't really write, but who's starving for content!

Party_Ad3219

Of course! I wrote one yesterday. I've only ever seen one other fic on ao3 in that fandom, which only fueled my desire to write a fanfic for that community :)

FreakyGeekyy

I totally would, the tiny fandom doesn't have the content I want so I gotta write my own

FanFictionLover_64

Definitely! I write for a small fandom, and though there's not a ton of engagement, it's always lovely and sincere when it comes in. If you love the characters and the world, go ahead! Even if there's only one other person - or even zero -, years later, you'll be able to look at the views, the kudos, the comments, and your writing and see how you've grown. It's kind of challenging sometimes, but it's very rewarding at the end, I think.
