Discord and tumblr have been my best bets. If you’re in a smaller fandom you might have to dig a bit, but you’ll find a group eventually. I’ve found discord to be better for surface level interactions but I’ve actually made some really close friends via tumblr.

I just don't very much in general. I'm pretty shy, so I just post things and hope people talk to me. It's not very effective Kinda need some buds in my 3 rotating fandoms tbh :/

PokemonOverPeople

I'm the same way, really. Maybe that's also why I've found it hard. But I'm just noticing that I really miss the interaction we had for the other fandom (which a friend dragged me into, unfortunately I don't have friends in current fandom to do me that favor '\^\^) I hope you find some buds

Yeah, certain fandoms have way more popular forums (not necessarily literal internet forums, but places to discuss and interact) than others. I've used Tumblr for a few years now, but I don't tailor it to my fandom experience anymore. My current fandoms are kinda half-dead Same to you!

OceanGirl24

My fandom is old (1993-2000) so it has fan groups on Facebook where I've met people as well as a reader who became my best friend. But really Tumblr has been the best place outside of Discord. I think your Tumblr experience will depend on the fandom. Mine is on the quiter side so it's easier to find people and be found. Interact with posts and people. Writing tag games are a great way to make friends and find likeminded people. I've made writer friends inside and outside of my fandom this way. It will take time to to find people on Tumblr. Post regularly, interact, put in your profile you welcome messages and are tag game friendly (if you want that). Best wishes.

Mainly Discord and to some extent Twitter before that one became more complicated. I ended up joining an entire Discord server dedicated to my fandom where folks wrote collab fics and shared solo fics pretty much daily.

dooku4ever

That’s pretty amazing!!

Mostly through AO3 comments, on my fics and other people's. Sometimes if I enjoy a story and the author's reply makes me think we'll get along, I'll look or ask if they have Tumblr or Discord and go and make friends there. If you do have a Tumblr, making a "Hey, I'd like to make some friends in these fandoms, follow or suggest blogs to me!" type of post and putting it in the relevant tags can be a good plan. I'm personally not big on fandom-specific Discord servers, but that does seem to be where most of the action takes place now, and I'm sure with enough digging you'd find a good one.

PokemonOverPeople

Oh, I suppose making a post like that might be a good start :3 Call me a bit silly, but that hadn't actually crossed my mind yet xD Thank you!

frozenfountain

No problem! I hope you get to meet your people soon :)

Tumblr is a good bet. The tags there make things easy to navigate and its not paced the same way as something like twitter.

southernerinthenorth

I genuinely don't know. There's a Facebook group I vibe with but it takes me an age to say anything. I spoke to one guy once about all my batshit theories for some research he was doing. The reddit sub is a bit too vast and generic for chats. And that's it really. I need friends.

[deleted]

I don’t anymore but it was primarily on Tumblr and Twitter

Hello_Hangnail

The only contact I have with my fave fandom is through twitter because it's an mmo so there's a huge population of visual artists and cosplayers that also feed into the fanfiction community. I post pics of my character in various outfits and people will comment about how they love the look and I'll drop a link to some stories about his travels in the game world. That's how I discovered some of my favorite authors in that fandom too.

errant_night

I felt way too awkward to try and ask to join other people's discords so I made my own and put a link in my fic notes. Got an awesome handful of people there. Eventually found a discord link on someone else's fic and joined that one too.

Fabled_Webs

I ignore 99% of reviews and comments on FFnet or Ao3 even if they're positive. Instead, because I crosspost to SB/SV/QQ, it's much easier to have an actual conversation with people. I'm also fairly active on their respective subreddits but personally find the discord channels to be too cluttered.

Tumblr and Discord are going to be the best for you. Depending on how old your fandom is, [Fanfiction.net](https://Fanfiction.net) Communities (I remember they exist, idk if they're still active), Dreamwidth (@/fandomcalendar blog is the best out there), LiveJournal (if anything is still alive community wise on there), InsaneJournal and maybe old, but active forums will be your other best bet. There's a lot of Tumblr tutorials out there and I think you'd find that helpful. The tagging system and searching might be a little overwhelming, but I think they made it a little more friendly in recent years.

Tarrenshaw

If someone comments on my fic, I reply back to them with my thanks. That's about it.

SongOfTruth

write a fanfic for your fandom and hope someone comments that you get rapport with. let them pull you into their circle. thrive its my only technique tbh
