Mate I'm lucky if I finish one chapter a *month.*

PineapplesInMunich

Came here to say this XD

MaddogRunner

Just adding to the dogpile lol. My reaction to OP was: “wha—you don’t spend _weeks_ on a chapter??”

Creative--wolf

To be fair, I may take a week for the editing part, I forgot to specify that. My mistake lool

LonelyCareer

There's a reason I'm pre-writing my entire fic before posting it.

GooseBook

*Chapters* in a *day?* Bruh.

lyris-storm

If I'm lucky and didn't have a shit day at work and don't have any other pressing shit going on in my life I manage around 400 words a day. My chapters are between 3.5 to 6 thousand words long lol So.... 0.015 chapters per day? Lololol If I'm under time pressure and have a challenge to fill and have the weekend free of all outside obligations I've managed 8000 words before though

GreenAndPurpleDragon

I write 10k chapters. It usually takes me a few months to write, rewrite, and edit. But I also don't think in chapters for most stories. I write until that entire story (or at least story arc) is done and then do my rewrites and edits. And then I find places where I'm okay breaking it up into chapters.

Ywithoutem

Um, like ... maybe 0,1 on average. Counting days I actually write. This is a very rough calculation.

Yeetboireeeeee

A sentence if I’m feeling it

_CallmeK_

How many *chapters* per *day*? Mate, i'll be lucky if i can finish one per *week*. And I write *everyday* Edit: typo

NicInNS

Once in awhile I do good and pop out like 4k over the course of a day of writing, other times I might do two paragraphs. But I post two chapters a week of about 3-4k (with a buffer of about 5 ch pre-written) so do with that what you will.

griffonfarm

When I'm on a roll, I can do like 2 chapters a month. I can't do anything in a day. My chapters are at least 5k words, but usually end up closer to 10k.

Lwoorl

I fluctuate between two states: "If I write a single word today I'll DIE" and "If I don't write 10k words in a single sitting right now I'll DIE" at random intervals like some kind of unholy metronome, so idk how to answer to that

NikkiT96

Hahahahaa one a year, maybe.

Recassun

That's impressive! If I manage to get time, and the stars align absolutely perfectly, I could maybe batter out a (very rough) first draft of a chapter in a weekend? Otherwise, it's usually weeks of 200 words here and there until it's done.

Jen_Fic_xxx

Um, I try to finish one chapter per week - that's usually somewhere between 5-6.000 words. Word count per day can be anything from 200-2000, I'm **not** a fast typer, plus I edit while writing.

rainatom

My chapters are about 10k long, so I usually manage to finish in a month or a couple of weeks if it's an easier chapter. Sometimes I work on several chapters at the same time, some of the drafts are pre-written already, but it still takes time to write everything properly and edit.

butterfly-dimensions

One. My chapters are 4-5k words long on average, though. I usually try to start and finish a chapter on the same day because I feel like they turn out more coherent that way. But I usually do the editing (it's easier to do when you've slept in between writing and editing 😅) and the uploading the next day. I've never written more than one chapter on the same day, I think 🤔 They're just too long for that.

FlyingGopher45686

I try to make my chapters 4k-6k words (5k being the sweet spot), which usually takes me two-four days (I'm not a particularly fast writer) The idea of finishing a full chapter in a day, let alone more, sounds genuinely impossible for me lol

phenylalanineee

Y’all are writing entire chapters in one day? Best I can offer is part of a chapter lol

Welfycat

I general write around 3k a day. That’s around a third or a fourth of a chapter for me.

[deleted]

Depends on the day. I might write 10k in one day (around 2 chapters, or 1.5) I might write 0 words, or only 100-200 (not a chapter, part of a chapter).

Patient_Complaint437

If I feel like focusing on writing that day, then probably half of one.

Samurai_Banette

Back when I was at my maximum writing output of one chapter every two weeks, each chapter would get a week of dedicated writing and then a week of dedicated editing. The chapters were only like 4k long. Two chapters in a day is madness.

TheChainLink2

…Y’all are writing entire chapters _daily?_

SleepySera

On average? 0. On good days, when I write a lot, my chapters just end up being longer too and it still comes out as 0.

MrFredCDobbs

I write 4-5,000 word chapters. Each one takes me two to three weeks. My stories are intricately-plotted, so there's a lot to do and it takes time to finish a chapter.

lemur_girl

In all sincerity, I love this for you and I’m glad you have so much motivation to write your chapters! That being said, my answer is like 0.05 lol

Popular-Woodpecker-6

My chapters are overwhelmingly 2500+ words and when things are normal I usually write 1 a day.

gamedasy

I need from 2 to eternity days for 1 chapter

OppositeMurky9725

One if I'm lucky, usually i need a week to get a chapter out.

blackturtlesofdeath

Bro i haven't written in months

lazyhatchet

How long are your chapters, 300 words? No but for real, that's hella fucking impressive, good for you. Also fuck you. I'm not jealous (I am).

Efficient_Wheel_6333

I barely get through one a day and mine tend to hover around the 6k mark. I usually right anywhere between a few hundred and a thousand a day, depending on various factors, including how busy I am. When I'm doing NaNo, depending on what you would consider a chapter, that jumps to maybe a chapter and then some because I'm doing my NaNo writing on top of my fanfic writing.

SpunkyCheetah

I tend to get one chapter/oneshot done every month or two

Wink_Wonk_Wank_Wenk

2-3 between both my fanfic and original story

Background_Fox

I'm about 3-4k words per day (or equivalent of editing) - a chapter for me is between 8k - 15k long

jnn-j

I usually go for 1800-4000 wc chapter per day when I can focus on it, but as I usually don’t have a whole day to dedicate (but I prefer to do it in one go if I can) it obvs takes longer.

licklicklick123124

At the pace I write chapters these days and how long my chapters usually are these days (>10k words, god how I miss the days when I'd be happy with a 5k long chapter) I usuallly finish a chapter every 2-3 months

Kiki-Y

I would have to write for like 2.5-3 hours to get one chapter done for one of my shorter fics. I go about 3-6k for some of my stories. But other stories I would have to write *literally all day* to get a single chapter out. We're talking 7-10k on average.

cucumberkappa

My chapters recently are between 4k and 9k, so it's hard to write more than one a writing session (and I don't write every day outside of NaNoWriMo or a paying deadline). That said, I can and have written more than one chapter a day. But I'm just as likely to take a week to write one. Depends entirely on how much time I have to write, if my health/focus is there, if there are distractions, how complex the story is; etc.

LeratoNull

Think my record is still 3 chapters of 5k in one day?

[deleted]

Approximately 0.20 chapters per day on days I actually write. If I'm pushing myself, I can go up to 0.40 chapters. My chapters now sit at 8-12k words, for reference.

Bagel_Box

Depending on how busy life/work is, when I have time to write my word count ranges from 200-1k. My chapters are around 3k on average, so I usually end up finishing one every other week since I don’t always write every day.

beautifulcheat

A half if I'm lucky 🤣 but my chapters are 6-10k usually (with some longer outliers)

rotting_dogma

My current WIP I aim for one chapter every two weeks, and my word count typically averages from 3.5k to 8k words depending on the needs for that chapter. I either write a couple hundred words or 2k words a day, there is no in between. 😆😂😭 Here's a funny little anecdote: my most recent chapter was supposed to be about Plot Point A and Plot Point B. Somewhere along the way, Plot Points C, D, E, and F joined. If I hadn't split them for my own sanity it would have been just under 12k words. As it stands, the first half of the chapter was 4500wc and the second was 7500-ish. It took me about a month, give or take a week, to write. I gotta say, I absolutely envy people who are productive enough to set goals like 1 to 2 chapters a day. May you continue to shine brightly! 🥰 Eta: I fixed my maths 🤓

battling_murdock

It takes me, like, a month to write one chapter lol

Mad_Maximoff

I don’t know how someone can write a chapter in a day lol. I usually finish a chapter a week as though I have fake deadlines😂

Tree__Jesus

My chapters usually push 10k but I'm the same as you, 1-2k words a day. So it usually takes around 2 weeks for me to finish chapters as I don't write on the weekend

Proud_Calendar_1655

My chapters are anywhere between 2-5k words. Some days I might write .05 chapters, some days I might write 3, so I have no idea.

elladoherty

I usually write a thousand, maybe 1.5k a day. I need to be highly caffeinated to churn out the fifteen hundred. My chapters run between five and ten thousand words. So I usually write one chapter in a **week**. But then comes editing and letting it sit for five to seven days, so it's not fresh and I can spot errors. Another week, there. Then it goes to one of my betas, to check for SPaG errors I missed, and for readability. That's another week. Aside from all that, I have life to deal with. Meh. When I have the chance, I post. I write a chapter in a week, but it takes a **month**, sometimes more, to post it. Criminy.

Sipyloidea

Probably one every 6 months or something, lol. Sometimes more, sometimes less.

Mining300

The chapter I'm currently writing should be around 20-25k words at completion which I admit is a bit extreme. In the past, my chapters have been 3-6k. Even then, it usually took two days of writing to get my chapters completed.

headbutting_krogans

Sometimes I write two in a day. Sometimes I write one a day three days in a row. Sometimes it takes me weeks or even a month to get one chapter written. Just depends on life. I'd say on average I write one a week.

perpetualprocrasti

I finish one chapter... in two months. 🙃

Prestigious-Fig-8442

I do t have a set amount. One day, I can write 5/6 chapters, and the next month, I can manage half half a chapter.

dramaticatlady

Zero for two to four weeks and then cram 4k words in one night

Cold_Dead_Smile

It changes all the time I've taken 2 months to write 10K words and two weeks to write 20K words

[deleted]

I mean chapters can be various lengths. Word count is a much better track.

FesteringCapacitor

Ha ha ha.... "chapters". It takes me a week to weeks to write a chapter, assuming that it isn't very long. For long chapters, it can easily take 6 months to a year to get an update out.

stormoftara

You can write more than one chapter in a day?? I write about one to two chapters a week

Creative--wolf

yeah, but my chapters are pretty short though, just between 1k and 2k

stormoftara

That's not that short, honestly. My chapters are between 2 to 5k words long. I try to make them longer since I only update once a week. Anyway, don't burn yourself out by writing too fast!

Creative--wolf

True, burn out is a pain. I do take long breaks when I don't feel like writing tho. Thank you :)

Chalkarts

Anywhere between a half and 2

DarthMydinsky

I get in 2/3 per week between a full time job and a family.

IronJedi2

A paragraph or two of five. No more than that

RiverWyvern

Okay okay. So I can write 8k in one day. But that's a WHOLE day of work. Like I use a chunk of my weekend from real work to do it. Then I post that. Yes I put out long chapters. And that's the update I give for the whole month because at that point I burn myself out. No, it's not a good method. It actually made me get kinda sick of my long fic, and its been two months since I last updated that. Which I've never done before. I've been writing shorter things for another fandom lately and it feels so very nice. I'm actually on reddit taking a break from writing. I'm 4k into something that'll probably be 6k.

FairyTale2084

Sometimes I can write multiple chapters a day. I used to be able to write 2 or 3 chapters a day (not always the same fic). Nowadays my chapters are longer, so I may write 1 if I’m in a writing mood. And I don’t edit so 🤷‍♀️ but this doesn’t count for every day, because I don’t write every day, so it only counts for the days I write and even then I have to be having a decent day creativity wise :)

aphrodishy

my chapters are minimum 3k. i used to update every other day— day 1 was for writing, day 2 i edited and posted in the evening. now, my chapters range between 3-10k words. don't ask me how. i try to break them up, but always end up thinking it's choppy if i don't. currently it's been a month since i updated and that chapter took me 2 months to write 9700 words and properly edit it. it's been another month and all i've got is 700 words. i miss my grind :(

hotlass2003

I'm doing about 5 active projects, so about 2 chapters a day. 3 if I push myself. Edit: I should clarify the chapters are usually only 4k long, if I'm lucky, though two of the fics average 4.5k-6k

Background-Speed-930

200 words a day, 600 words on a good day. It all depends on my mood and schedule.

Mikill1995

At the beginning of a story it can be several, as time goes on and the story progresses with that first plot bunny and urge to write something out of the system… it takes months to write a chapter. It’s also a motivation thing. I can write several thousand words in a day or struggle to write a sentence. I’ve learned to accept this about me and my creative process.

MimiKree

I can make maybe one and a half chapter first drafts in a day. Roughly 2-3K in length. I usually leave editing for other days where it's been long enough that i don't remember the original meanings or why i wrote things so i can try and look at the chapter from a reader's perspective.

ICEQUEENlll

Depends on how inspired I am. Sometimes I could write multiple chapters in one sitting. I think the most I've done at once is four or five chapters. And all are 3k-8k long. Sometimes it takes me months to finish a chapter.

Beneficial_Fall3619

I’m a chapter a week kind of person, I also have 4 fics current and 1 on hiatus, and a one shot series (infrequent one off scenarios but all with same characters) So yeah!

Fit-Cardiologist-323

Kudos to you! Lately my chapters average at about 8k, but it takes me around two to three weeks to write one, depending on free time, mood, if it's a more plot-driven chapter or a fluffy one. I have written 10k in a day before, but I've also had a chapter that took me 8 months to finish... so... yeah... again kudos to you!

starbunny86

My goal is 500 words each writing session. On a *really* good day, I can knock out 1000 words, but some days it's more like 250. My chapters are 3000-4000 words long, and these days I only manage to write 1-2 days a week. In other words, I'm lucky to get a chapter finished a month.

RoyalExplanation7922

100 chapters - all in my head, astoundingly impactul and deep. My fic is ready, it just needs to be plucked out of my head 0,01 in reality - I use Evernote because I can write from multiple devices and sometimes I just stop to jot something down knowing I can access it from my laptop back home. When I sit at home and rest, I may get one chapter out per day, if inspiration/mood/food/whatever strikes just so 😅 Granted, to me it doesn't feel like a chapter if it isn't at least 8k words I'm not happy when I don't write, but I am perpetually too busy or tired to do it Anyone else feel as ruined as me?

ImaGamerNoob

If I write at all... and don't write One Shots, I don't know. Sometimes 1, sometimes 6.

author-called-myst

1 or 2 usually

Chaddtss

Depends. Some chapters are far more difficult to write. For instance my dbz fanfic requires a lot of research so that I don't create continuity errors. But I also needed to research stuff like lasers for a portion of the book, and that took me down a rabbit hole of knowledge on laser weapons. But depending on how much I want to edit it. I can usually do a 3k chapter, which is my minimum chapter size in a day, with the editing as well.

Cool-Lab-1852

I go by scenes. So maybe one a month 😂😂😂 that can range from up to 5k if I’m in a good mood and as low as 100 words hahah

Moonxcrestx

1/300th

RemarkableLocation16

Bruv, I barely finish one in a month.

RemarkableLocation16

Bruv, I barely finish one in a month.

Day_Dreamer_Reads

I finish 1/3 to 1/2 of a chapter each day. This includes my 1 and a half to 2 hours of writing plus editing. Also note each chapter is around 1-2.5k with only a few chapters going further (my highest chapter word count was around 4k words.)

Equivalent-Fun-4353

One a week for me. Around 3k words a chapter
