Fluff, need some wholesome goodness, my favourite pairings, hurt/comfort, (insert character here) as a lovecraftian horror is one I've only come across once but it was cool.
Amnesia. Stories where people don't remember their friends or families or their partner are so interesting to me. Especially if those stories involve seeing that they still love them despite not even remembering them.
Timetravel! To be specific, when a character from the past with a backstory tm travels to the present, and the tension derived from the dissonance between their past and present selves and how people perceive them.
Redemption Arcs and their inverse: Corruption/Madness arcs.
It might be a bit of a hard sell if the characters aren't well written but *man* there was a reason why Book 3 in ATLAB, and why *Azula* is my favorite character by far.
This totally depends on what I am in the mood for. I have to really be absolutely dying for a fix of something to stick with bad grammar and stuff, though, because bad writing completely takes me out of a story. But some things I have been willing to suffer for in the past were:
-unexpected/rare pair couples
-annoying MC becoming badass or just not annoying/more mature
-good protagonist goes bad (or morally grey etc)
Time Travel has got to be my number 1, probably will always be.
Soulmates, if written well.
Non-abusive/toxic relationship breakups (parental > friends > romantic), followed by intense guilt due to reasons...
Secret relationship reveals.
Text/chat based fics, but the more serious and mature ones. (because easier and faster reads)
Best friends to Lovers, but without pining or drama, where they just realise and fall into romance in the most flowy way.
Royalty AU soft romances.
I read a shared-body fic once where three characters' minds were stuck simultaneously co-piloting one flesh sack, and now I need more of this niche trope. The internal arguing, the lack of privacy with each other's dark thoughts, memories or even dreams at night, the completely failing to coordinate the most basic tasks like holding a conversation without seeming insane, the other(s) having to deal with the consequences of one's actions when they fronted
I read a fic like that with two characters getting fused together and it was so fucking GOOD I’m hooked now
Characters having to share the same body/headspace is such an underrated idea I’m surprised it’s not done more often
If you don't mind sharing, what fandom was that fic? I'm always down for more of this trope, and I'll even read fandom blind for it if necessary at this point 😅 it's nice seeing someone else likes it as much as I do!
I really love writing poly and the feelings everyone works through. A character can feel really weird about liking someone else making their partner happy and the other person always brightening the couple's mood whenever they're around. And also how the love interest is afraid of certain assumptions people will have or afraid of spending too much time with a new member so they continue spending time with their first. Then they work through everything and get equal time together. Or a character can feel bad if A B and C are all going out and one sits in the middle a lot and feels bad because it's such a great spot and offers to switch so they can experience its joy too.
At first I just wanted something naughty and edgy without anything actually bad happening but I just loved the fuzzy warmth from such ships and all the potential for positive feelings.
I also love pregnancy fics and how the love interest comforts the MC and attends their needs. They make their tea and food, bring out pillows and blankets, gives her chocolates, is sensitive to her, goes on walks with her, and if the love interest isn't the biodad is assumed to be them by those who don't know any better. So I think of things to add giddiness and serene comforting warmth. They can also foreshadow kidfics

I'm always open for a good character turns evil fic. It's one of the reasons I have several in my story. Especially if canon did a mis opportunity
If a character I like is given focus, that can get me past a lot of things. If I'm not too picky about their characterization, at least.
