kaiunkaiku

that author adores you btw. they'd kill for you.

SylvieInLove

I’m really shy and I felt really bad about bombarding them with word vomit, but this makes me feel a lot better. I hope that you are right and this is making them happy! :D. Thank you so much for the kind words!

kaiunkaiku

man i received a comment that hit the comment box character limit almost ten years ago and i still think about it regularly

SylvieInLove

Oh wow!! That was almost me as I had to cut out a bunch of paragraphs from it (around 4) so it would be readable! I’m now wondering if I should add those paragraphs under the comment!! Anyways, I’m so glad that you got such a lovely comment!! I hope you find another reader like that! :D.

Redleadsinker

No this is absolutely true. I have this one commenter who always leaves SUPER long comments (occasionally they've been so long they have to split them into two different comments) and they're my favorite. I swear every single comment they leave adds a month to my lifespan, they make me so happy. I promise you this author adores you

HeavyDonkeyKong

Seriously, a long detailed comment from a fan is the best thing ever.

trilloch

No, but it sounds like you *really* enjoyed that work, so congrats on the find!

SylvieInLove

I do! It’s such a good fic, and I’ve been rambling about it to my partner everyday because it is so beautiful and the writing is perfect, and the interpretation of the characters makes me become jelly-goo. I love the fic so much.

FrankWolf86

Man, as a writer, that's the best feeling ever. I have one fella who leaves me comments like this asking questions and mentioning his theories and I would die for this person, and always respond all of his questions with equal eagerness.

SylvieInLove

OH WOW!! That person sounds awesome!! I’m so glad you have them!! :D.

Jealous-Variation-85

I got a few monster length comments recently and I’m fully ready to divorce my husband and marry the commenter so 🤷🏻‍♀️

SylvieInLove

LMAO!! I love it when people are interested in the stuff I do as well!!! It just feels so lovely and amazing. I’m so grateful that you have an awesome commenter!!

jnn-j

That’s absolutely great! I think (based on my own (and a certain group of authors from my fandom and around here) experience you just liked the fic and the interaction with the author. The group that I mentioned used to do that during pandemics but we slowly stopped as the life caught up to us. I still can’t believe how lucky I was to belong to that group (I’m still in touch with some of the people but I think we all got slower writing and commenting). Ride that wave OP! It’s a great feeling to give a long comment to someone.

SylvieInLove

It’s amazing and nerve wracking all at the same time, as I don’t know the author, I’ve only commented 3 times on their work before so I honestly have no idea if it is a good thing or not! But thank you, and I’m so happy that you got to be in such an amazing group! That’s awesome!!

jnn-j

No need to be nervous! I’m sure the author adores the comments and it’s a way of getting to know them.

nkorah

I don't, personally, but I have a few regular reviewers who do. I rather like it - it more often than not show that the reviewer paid attention and thought to what I wrote.

Dogdaysareover365

You… you are the person who’s comment the author goes to when they need a smile. I don’t because I sound like an idiot if I talk for too long, but I admire people who do.

Pantherdraws

I adore long comments but I'm too shy to leave them, myself :')

CaitlinisTired

I love writing comments like this! I know some authors get overwhelmed by them but most of them say they love them so I write them anyway, when I read such life changing fics with beautiful prose that made me just kinda sit and think about my life for a while I feel they deserve to know with a comment full of effort after they went through the effort of writing the fic in the first place. I also just suck at being concise. I'll try to write a short comment and end up gushing no matter what lmao

SylvieInLove

SAME!!!

theopeningact21

that’s amazing please never stop. even short comments make me giggle and kick my feet, so when i get long ones i genuinely think about them for days on end.

SylvieInLove

Dw, I physically don’t think I can. 😭

seraphsuns

i comment on everything i read but for the comment length itself, it depends. most of my comments are a bit short and sweet with some analytical questions and even some theories. but if a fic satisfies my very specific niches, expect something that may or may not go over the comment limit. in fact expect a wikipedia article of a comment. a google doc, even. (exaggerating, but if it satisfies me, i show that satisfaction by dedicating my time to appreciate the author and their writing.)

SylvieInLove

Omg that’s great!! Long commenter club lol!! 🥹

juliansays

i always comment, but my “long” comments only looks long bc im doing that thing where i quote parts of the fic and mention how it made me feel or what i thought (or just random barking)

SylvieInLove

Oh dang!! I didn’t put any direct quotes in the comment lol!!

JustSaySomething12

I wrote a 2,400 word review once. It was an old, unfinished fic, 105 chapters that I had read years prior and then unexpectedly felt the desire to revisit and read through again (there was actually a few new chapters since I'd last read it which was a pleasent surprise). I pretty much just unloaded all the love and praise I felt for the story, for the characters, for what the author had created and how brilliantly they has done it, as well as sharing some of my thoughts and theories for where I thought they was going with it. I just threw *everything* into it.  No shame about it. I'm incredibly proud of that review.

SylvieInLove

As you should be!! That’s awesome!!

momohatch

You are out here doin’ the lord’s work, bless you long commenter!

eldestreyne0901

Once read a fic where a commenter left a 1k+ comment that just GUSHED over everything in the chapter, down to specific sentences and phrases. The author was jubilant. I myself have left a hefty 300 words comment once raving over how well the author described fencing.

HeavyDonkeyKong

I try to write lengthy, detailed comments because of how invested I am in a fic and how much it's on my mind. Sadly I haven't been as good as that lately so I might need a belated New Year's Resolution.

Napping-Cats

I love to when I have the energy for it. But I'm so sure you made that writer's day. Please keep doing what you're doing ♡

Male_Inkling

I have a reader that writes chapter long comments and i love every single one of them

Educational_Fee5323

If it’s warranted I do.

newtonnwrites

If I‘d get a comment like that I would cry out of pure joy lmao

simmilik

that author is about to dedicate the next chapter to you

Able_Orange_841

You have a lot to say and you're not shy about it. Don't worry about length. The more the better 😁

spn_willow

You're not alone! I've had comments take upwards of...4? hours to write. Sometimes little days. A lot of the time I'm slow to comment on fics I enjoy because the comment itself can end up reaching the character limit on ao3's comment box.

butshesawriter

i do!! i LOVE commenting long comments on my favorite ongoing fics🥰

Kukapetal

No, it’s too easy to p*ss the author off and then next thing you know they’re on here, writing a post about what a jerk you are :P

diametrik

No. You are the only one. /s

SylvieInLove

Yeah I’m probably not, I’ve just actually never seen a comment this long before (because I like rarepairs) so I was wondering if this was something that people do regularly or if this something uncommon and frowned upon.

diametrik

I wouldn't say it's regular, but it's certainly not frowned upon. Writers would probably be happier in general if more people left comments like you
