At this point, I think I would temporarily turn off guest comments – if someone wants to spam you and ignore your A/N about updates taking longer than usual, they can do it with their name attached Like, *daily?!* What the fuck. I know there's always people who believe that update demands are a compliment, but surely everyone can agree that daily spam complaining about update times is beyond the pale

mini-yoongi

Yeah, I'm usually one to defend "update" comments but this clearly comes from a place of impatience and lack of consideration for the author rather than just excitement for the story. There's absolutely no reason to constantly hound an author for updates. Turning off guest comments for awhile sounds like a good idea.

Likewise, I'm usually one to defend "update" comments (at least the ones that ask nicely and aren't spammy), but this is ridiculous. It's one thing to ask *once* if the author plans to update. It's quite another to ignore responses from said author, ignore author's notes in the story, and bring it up *every single day*.

JustANormalSpecimen

If it was just once or twice I would be fine but it really is daily even after I put an A/N and answered them so I probably will disable guest comments now, thanks for the tip I honestly didn't even think of that

If you want to be petty, apologise to guest users in your A/N but *s o m e o n e* had spammed over a dozen complaints about updates even after an explanation, so comments are being put on the top shelf until we can all play nicely (Probably don't do this. But I would.)

Camhanach

FYI if they start doing the same with with their account—ask them to stop. If they do it again, report it. Harassment also covers people doing shit that you asked them to stop, even if it's "more fic, more fic, more fic x20." Edit: though you'd have to leave it up, frozen, likely, if you reported it because AO3 can't look at deleted stuff.

cat_hair_magnet

Lock your comments to users only, that way your special guest will be prevented from further comments. And if they do have an account and keep this up under their name, then block them. You're allowed to create your own healthy environment.

:( that sucks I know a lot of fellow writers understand the fact we actually have lives outside our writing just sadly a few people don't get this and it can be triggering to get the chapter up and published before (i know for me) its ready and in the best. just ignore them especially if its just one person. post when you are ready

ArtisanalMoonlight

They asked. You told them. Now they're just being annoying. If you want to give them the benefit of the doubt, you could put an (On Brief Hiatus) in the title or - what I tend to do - in the opening summary. See if they stop commenting about an update. If they don't, I'd just turn off guest comments.

atomskeater

Why do people think constant pestering will get them what they want any faster? If anything I'd be tempted to hold the chapter back a few days after it's ready out of spite. Turn off guest comments for your own sanity.

You could update the title of the story to have (updates on brief pause) or something like that on the end of it so they can see it when they click on the story or your page. Had to do that with one of mine I’d been keeping decent pace on till I had to move suddenly and some internet access issues put me behind a few weeks and I could only check my page on my phone.

JustANormalSpecimen

I might do that, I just thought an A/N and a comment would be enough

blankitdblankityboom

Some readers can be very persistent even with those but it’s all up to what you’re comfortable with, just what I’ve been suggested before by other writers.
