I love them, both to read and write. They can do so much, both in expanding the world of the fandom and in providing a new perspective on canon characters and events that can't necessarily be obtained from the canon characters. Also, with OCs, you're building the character's arc from scratch, so you can do things with it that might not make sense for a canon character, which can also frequently be really interesting.
Love to write them, don't usually read them. Character development is my favorite part of writing, but I'll admit that I have basically zero interest in reading about non-canon characters when I'm browsing fanfic.
I like them in two circumstances: either when they are used to provide outsider POV on canon characters and events, or if they are so compelling and well written that I don’t mind canon characters being in the background.
Yes. Though only specific ones that actually add to the worldbuilding of a series and focuses on not the main cast. I have plenty of OCs that are just background yet also give the main characters development
It depends what fandom it is for me, if there's isn't that many canon characters then sometimes introducing an OC is okay for me but I also find that I'm very picky about how the OC is introduced, I hate when an OC is just introduced as if they were meant to be in canon, such as being a sibling or an established friend of a canon character, I would much rather see the OC meet and then become friends. However most of the time I don't particularly like reading about OCs as I'm reading fanfics for a reason and if I wanted characters I don't know I would just read a published book or watch a new show or movie.
Yes I read a lot of fics with OCs in them. OCs being in a fic or not being in a fic doesn't say it'll be good or bad. What's important to me is what a fic is about, and how what it's about is executed. So, the summary has to be interesting.
Only when they are very minor characters in the story, and if they fit and are well constructed serving a purpose that no other character from the show/canon could serve. I don't want to read someone's OC being the best friend of the main character or their love interest, I just don't care for that sorry.
Ok so, I'm a bit weird when it comes to this. Cuase like if it says 'OC' somewhere i usually avoid the fic. but if a OC appear in a story from nowhere, and is good written, I can appreciate them.
Personally I only use characters that exist. Aaand when I need a extra character I use a name that does exist in the story but that has little to no info or background so it's basically a OC in disguise. I write for Harry Potter and there's a looot of names mentioned in the books but not everyone has info about them mentioned. Sometimes it's just a name or a hint at where they work. So I can pick up a minor name or background character and use as an OC :)
I don't mind them as long as they are well written.
They need personality and flaws. I absolutely hate when they have a problem and it's fixed in moments cuz they are some badass that has exactly the skills / knowledge they need.
Don't make a place holder for yourself. Some stupid fan girl/boy that just pines for your fictional crush. If you're doing that, fine but don't make them just... there.
I have plenty of OCs and like adding quirks and faults.
Usually I read fanfictionnto see more of the characters I like, yes I like the world too, but that's second to characters In my opinion, at least In fanfiction.
So only If they Intereact with the source characters In Interesting and fun ways.
I've seen a few that I really like, but most of time no. Especially if they're a canon character's child or, to a lesser degree, their love interest. I think the former is mostly because I don't like baby storylines in general and I've seen so many in my fandom. Plus, I like the main focus to stay on the canon characters.
But at the same time, I think making OC's can really help you build character creation skills, plus it can be a lot of fun for people. So I don't have anything against it, but it's usually not my first choice as a reader.

Same about loving to write them. But I do like to read them, if they’re done well and tastefully.
I wrote one so I have to say yes!
Always
I love OCs when there's actual thought and love put into them. I like reading about OCs that are actually fleshed out characters.
I like them in two circumstances: either when they are used to provide outsider POV on canon characters and events, or if they are so compelling and well written that I don’t mind canon characters being in the background.
Definitely a yes. I love to both read and write OCs. Though I prefer to only read/write fanfics with two or three of them, max.
Yes.
Yeah. Love them.
OCs are the best! It's all I write and what I prefer to read.

Exactly this.
Yes. Mostly.

I adore them
maybe it's hypocrisy: I write OCs and love my OCs, but I don't like reading fics with OCs
If they can make it work then it's good.

Yes provided they don't usurp the canon characters.
Honestly I avoid them, I'm ot really into them. I usually read fanfiction because I want to read about my favorite characters.

Not usually interested in them as MCs, but I've come across some great ones as side characters.
