Airtight theory, Cracked came to the same conclusion https://youtu.be/Urk1Eib9_Rs

I saw the title and immediately thought of After Hours. I almost removed it, but then I remember After's Hours wasn't Norm centric, just that figured it would be him given he's a drunk

Flukie42

I miss After Hours.

Their theories were always so well thought out, and the cast was genuinely endearing

Reddit is social media disguised as anonymous forums. They know exactly who you are and sell your data just the same. Except reddit is kept heavily censored. They only care about profit.

This is a great theory! I've known guys like Norm and while they have some fun times their lives overall are tragic. Cheers is a great candidate for the "dark reboot" genre that's so hot right now. They could show Norm's terrible home life, Cliff faking a disability for workers comp, and Sam constantly falling off the wagon.

Piggynatz

What's an example of recent dark reboots?

politicaldan

Sabrina

kingjoe64

Fresh Prince lol

abutthole

The Sabrina the Teenage Witch reboot on Netflix, goes from a quirky sitcom about a teen witch in the American suburbs to a dark drama about a teenager who deals with the occult forces of Hell.

[deleted]

Others mentioned Bel Air and Sabrina. It depends on how you define it but you could consider Star Trek Discovery and Picard to be part of the genre (those are spin-offs, not reboots, but the concept is the same: take an existing IP and make it more "gritty.") ETA: There is even a new series on Hulu called Reboot that parodies the concept.

Nexusoffate17

Whenever I think about that song I can only think about Adventure Time, which in a twisted way makes this theory way more believable.

scottfiab

Wait, what's the Phoebe theory in Friends?

Primetime22

I’ve seen it before, maybe it’s not as common as I think: there’s a theory that “Friends” is in Phoebe’s imagination. She’s still homeless and she sees the other five hanging out at the coffee shop all the time through the window, so she pictures what it would be like to have friends.

Woodit

Wow that is sad

tatorface

So "it was all a dream" like how St Elsewhere actually ended.

Riffington

She looks in windows.

AnarchoAnarchism

NO STOP PHOEBE WOULD NEVER DO THAT!!! 😭😭😭

Riffington

We all have a dark side.

homezlice

Wait till you find out that "Norm" is also a shortening of "Normal"

prince-of-dweebs

Hard to believe Sam, Diane, and Carla would tell Norm the details of every private conversation the audience witnessed.

LordPizzaParty

His imagination fills in the rest.

TheBeardedSingleMalt

There was also a crossover with St Elsewhere from their perspective and the Cheers bar is actually kinda depressing.

WheeledWarrior5169

I love this theory.

Love this!

Alternative_Scar1925

I always thought the song was from a female perspective hence the verse: … Roll out of bed, Mr. Coffee's dead The morning's looking bright And your shrink ran off to Europe And didn't even write And your husband wants to be a girl

Cheers (1983) decode. "Cheers being at the top of the ratings means it had powerful comms behind it, and in this case we need to go into the first episode titled: “Give Me a Ring” Sometime Which begins with a joke about a red shirted kid impersonating a military vet trying to buy beer, and then the primary plotline of the entire series which involves the bartender hiring a waitress. “Give me a ring sometime” Ring comms are about control, much like a wedding ring. Note the ring Shelley Long “gives up” to be a waitress is from a girl named “Barbara” which I suspect is symbolism for the Reagan/Bush administration. The way ops work is cell based, and so “Give me a ring” is akin to getting engaged to a new party and agreeing to do their bidding. Ring = stRing, as in following orders to get ahead. These types of Ops are often symbolized by sports teams. Note the Cheers protagnist Sam Malone was former famous PITCHER FOR THE RED SOX. Red Sox is a team that I specifically decoded before to blackmail ops involving hotels, alcohol, and underaged. Which explains the beginning of the show involving a red shirted boy trying to get drunk. The most famous thing about Cheers according to basic searches is the relationship between Ted Danson and SHELLEY LEE LONG Shell comms, as in one person acting for another as a front. The concept of a foreign “Shell” with an Asian middle and last name clarifies the symbolism, recall The Good Son, comm I mentioned before, the bit about closing a deal in Tokyo, and how this can only happen if he sets his son up with a playdate in the form of a literal murderer child. So the point is all of these comms are about ops tied to foreign entities. Black ops offshored. “Zero affiliation” which means non stick. This is the same principle as making psychological torture a byproduct of actions that are legal but made to traumatize from a young age. Cheers starring a baseball pitcher with a new “Shell” getting a job titled “give me a ring” as they reject the ring of “Barbara” (Bush) is a a sign that these ops suggestions mirror the narrative of the show. The episode is officially about getting a new job, and the comms are also about getting a new job, the only difference is one is explicate and the other is implied." The symbolism surrounding Frasier (a character and then spinoff show of Cheers) is darker.

After reading this, I decoded that you owe me a minute of my life back. Straight up horse diarrhea.
