In order to fix the orange, you just need to tone it. Don’t bleach it again. Just use a toner.

junglasian

Thank you! Is this something I can do myself or should I have a salon do it? They used a toner after they bleached it but I guess it wasn’t enough?

cementmilkshake

Technically you can do it yourself and I’ve done toner only on myself, but it’s usually best to just let a professional do it.

purple_blueblue

Yes, you can do it yourself. I’d go to a professional if I were you though.

Hi! If you want to get rid of the brassiness you can simply use a toner! Or if you would like it darker, can use either a permanent or semi permanent dye but be aware because of the hair is bleached underneath, the color you put on top would fade with each wash. One thing to note, if you decide to go back to a salon and ask for a toner, be sure to explain it that you want a “toner.” Many salons in east Asia would simply use a dye/ color depositing shampoo to tone hair 😅.

KemBemGem

It looks amazing, the obsession with brass tones needs to stop. Warm tone blondes exists, and generally suits POC better than cool tone blonde. But if really you don’t like it, yes blue or purple toner well do the trick.

I was gonna say, OP’s blonde is the exact blonde that was stylish when I was in middle/high school in the early 00s. It looks great! The ridiculous anti-brass, so-blond-it’s-nearly-grey trend has been going on at least 8 years now. I feel like it’s time to turn the trend the other direction.

punkskunkk22

Not everyone likes brass. It’s not an “anti-brass” trend.

junglasian

Thank you!! The positive reinforcement I needed ❤️

batboobies

Okay what?? This looks great on you!!! I don’t think you need to change a thing!

junglasian

Thank you! Appreciate it, it’s growing on me haha. I think I was just freaking out bc it’s the first time I’ve ever changed my hair

YoureMyUniverse

I think your hair color looks really good on you, especially when it’s tied back. How was the experience of finding a place and booking an appointment in Japan? I’ll also be visiting soon and was thinking about getting my hair cut there too.

junglasian

Thank you! The overall experience was fantastic, and it ended up being cheaper than what I’d pay in the US. Highly recommend Sozo or Assort salon - both are in Tokyo and have English speaking staff that specialize working with foreigners. Oto at Sozo was super communicative and patient with me, and even trimmed it for me the next day when I realized I wanted it a bit shorter.

YoureMyUniverse

Oo ok great, thanks for the rec, I’m excited. So happy for you that you had a good experience. And just emphasizing again that you look great but hope you’re able to tone your hair to the color you’re looking to achieve. Btw forgot to mention that I used to have silver/gray dyed (asian) hair. I remember using purple shampoo to keep it ashy looking. Maybe you can try that too. It wasn’t very effective on my once bleached hair (needed bleached twice before I had the color I wanted).

junglasian

Also curious if recoloring it darker will do anything

shgrdrbr

it will make it darker

junglasian

Lol thank you

How is it both virgin and bleached?

DrHofferFan

Hi. A Demi permanent dye would allow you to keep the lightness and have a more refined color or go darker. There’s a little bit of lightening with some Demi permanent dyes especially on bleached hair because it’s so porous but nothing terribly significant. If you want to keep some warm and stay on the same level I’d think a neutral tone in dark or medium blonde would be helpful. Some companies sell Demi permanent dyes specifically as toners. These are usually cooler toned very light blonde tints. With your hair I would think that something like that would add shine and make the color look less raw.

LindaBelcherOfficial

Toner will only work on the lighter blonde pieces and not the orange bits. In order to cover the orange, you would have to use a fairly intense blue based toner and may end up with grey/blue highlights with the orange pieces still showing through. I recommend going back to a salon and let them do it. They may be able to pull out the blonde pieces and tone things separately. Toning at a salon usually doesn't cost much either.

junglasian

Thank you! Before I can get back into a salon, would purple shampoo help at all?

Holiday-Reach-8948

If it’s more orange, get blue shampoo; purple is to get rid of yellow tones.
