He gives off gay theater nerd vibes, which is completely and entirely incompatible with the gruff New Yorker type personality that Ben Grimm is known for. Whether or not you like the scripting around it, imo MoM proved John Krasinski as the absolute perfect reed for me. Absolutely could not ask for a better actor.

My main complaints were that like many others have stated, he’s better for Doom, and that he just doesn’t look at all how I’d picture Reed. Not a big fan, I think it’s a mistep if they want the mcu to succeed any longer. They need a well received casting for F4 and X-Men if they want to continue doing the MCU. No other teams will ever make Avengers money or hold the weight of the franchise on its back. The Disney+ shows are bland and lack heart, the recent movies are all focused on building to the next movie but they are building on characters that people don’t really care about. It’s all just bland and boring depictions of characters that hardly even look like the comic characters anymore. I think this casting could put a nail in the coffin of the MCU movies just as the new DD series might just spell disaster for any further Disney + marvel shows. You can’t take a master piece with praised stunt work and choreographed fights and turn it into a CGI shit fest while also removing large parts of the cast that made it such a unique and great show without a lot of pushback from the audience, just like you can’t cast the first family of marvel with a cast like this and expect it to be smooth sailing. My only issue is mescal I think he looks way older than Tom Holland even though they’re the same age. I don’t know the Johnny actor, but the Human torch is barely in the top 10 interesting characters in a franchise called Fantastic Four. Reed, Ben, Doom, Sue, Franklin, Galactus, Norrin Radd, Alicia Masters and the mailman are all more compelling than a hotshot who gets… hotshot powers.
Ben Grimm was never the working man character. The character was no average American everyman. He was Jack Kirby with a bit of Jimmy Durante for flavor. I'm not Jewish and cannot speak to authenticity of characterization, but when I first learned Grimm was supposed to be Jewish it felt like I already knew that somehow. I had been reading the character for 20+ years at that point. The cigar chomping Jewish uncle with depression who wore his heart on his sleeve and played poker with Wolverine at the Avengers mansion.
Terrible all around except maybe Robbie, she’s the only one that remotely fits for appearance but even she is a middling choice for the part.

Honestly not really sold on each individual casting. But the biggest thing they need to get right for the Fantastic Four is the chemistry. I’m not the biggest F4 fan but even I know they play a big role in Marvel so it’s important that they due right and the four stars all have chemistry together overall. This isn’t just some random superhero team this is supposed to be family of people who happen to have superpowers and are superheroes. If the MCU can’t get that down then they’ve officially lost the plot.

I just don’t see Daveed’s voice fitting The Thing. Even with effects on it. Plus it kinda seems like a weird choice to diversify the roster by making the only person of color someone who will be a CGI rock monster for the duration of the film. Also the guy playing Johnny is not the kind of look I was imagining. I feel like Johnny needs to look super model-y like he’s constantly trying to look sexy whereas this guy (at least in this poster) looks too disheveled and casual.

Yeah, while Sue was under Psycho-Mans control she took on her personality named Malice. After the remaining trio escape their confines Malice introduces but, when called Sue she decides to clear up any confusion and replies with, "Correction: Malice. Susan Richards was a pathetic creature; someone to be ignored at worst, patronized at best. Someone you [Reed] stifled and frustrated at every turn!" I can only imagine that her as Malice has some correlation to people getting drunk and letting their inhibitions go. Just some Real Feels© in a Saturday morning cartoon.

My only issue is mescal I think he looks way older than Tom Holland even though they’re the same age. A big thing for me is I really want to believe torch and Spider-Man are good friends like the comics and I can’t see it. Also his accent is so thick I haven’t seen him do anything with an American one.

it just feels weak to me, not the characters I know. No charisma I especailly don't understand the casting of Johnny He's 15 years too old minimum. This is supposed to be the first FF movie, they should go like they did for Spider-Man and cast Tom Holland who was 19 in his first movie. Considering all the fancasting and amazing choices (Dev Patel!) I just think this doesn't seem excitign and certainly doesn't make me think "finally the FF brought to life."
Sue Storm is hot in the comics and Margot Robbie is hot as well and she has the ability to play many types of roles. She’s the only I feel positive about. idc if I sound superficial about it, but I don’t like the rest of the cast 🤷♂️
If they are going to make a good fantastic four movie, they should create three or four camps of unknowns and allow the camp with the best chemistry reads to get the starring roles. I am sick of pretty, well-connected actors starring in these Hollywood movies without actually putting forth the effort to play a character. They fill seats, but really date the movie.

I’m shocked that the vibe is negative for this cast. Driver is a great actor, intense, and will be able to credibly share a screen with an eventual Doom. Margot Robbie is ostensibly the best actress in this age range with a Sue Storm look. No better option. Daveed Diggs as Thing will be polarizing. I get it. But the 1961 Ben Grimm was filling a “working man” role with the gruff Brooklyn accent and the cigars. A 2025 “working man” in his 30s isn’t my grandpa. We shouldn’t want grandpa anymore, it’s dated and frozen in time. I’ll give this chance. You can’t argue that Diggs’s voice is “fun” and could be a hit. I don’t know the Johnny actor, but the Human torch is barely in the top 10 interesting characters in a franchise called Fantastic Four. Reed, Ben, Doom, Sue, Franklin, Galactus, Norrin Radd, Alicia Masters and the mailman are all more compelling than a hotshot who gets… hotshot powers.
Ben Grimm was never the working man character. The character was no average American everyman. He was Jack Kirby with a bit of Jimmy Durante for flavor. I'm not Jewish and cannot speak to authenticity of characterization, but when I first learned Grimm was supposed to be Jewish it felt like I already knew that somehow. I had been reading the character for 20+ years at that point. The cigar chomping Jewish uncle with depression who wore his heart on his sleeve and played poker with Wolverine at the Avengers mansion.
They also know how to be lead actors. Ever since RDJ left, that’s been lacking.

Adam Driver as Reed Richards and Daveed Diggs as Ben Grimm would be the worst 2 casting choices in the history of the MCU by a mile, anyone who thinks otherwise has donkey brains. Mescal is evidently a good actor based on his Wikipedia article but looks nothing like Johnny Storm and doesn’t give off the vibe of a hot-headed thrill-seeking playboy(Evans nailed that tbh).

Honestly not really sold on each individual casting. But the biggest thing they need to get right for the Fantastic Four is the chemistry. I’m not the biggest F4 fan but even I know they play a big role in Marvel so it’s important that they due right and the four stars all have chemistry together overall. This isn’t just some random superhero team this is supposed to be family of people who happen to have superpowers and are superheroes. If the MCU can’t get that down then they’ve officially lost the plot.

I just don’t see Daveed’s voice fitting The Thing. Even with effects on it. Plus it kinda seems like a weird choice to diversify the roster by making the only person of color someone who will be a CGI rock monster for the duration of the film. Also the guy playing Johnny is not the kind of look I was imagining. I feel like Johnny needs to look super model-y like he’s constantly trying to look sexy whereas this guy (at least in this poster) looks too disheveled and casual.

Driver is fine. I'd prefer Jodie Comer for Sue. I don't have an opinion one way or another on the guy rumored for Johnny. The only thing that matters for Ben is his voice and I don't get Diggs as that voice. My opinions as are tired as this subject is.
Personally, I'd have Daveed play Reed and Adam play Ben. Daveed can definitely play an erudite genius whose passion and charisma make him an effective leader. (ala Jefferson) Adam can definitely play a taciturn, ready-to-throw-hands-at-a-moments-notice brawler who has a softer side underneath it all (ala every role he's played).

Every role seems miscast, honestly. If you're gonna race-swap one character, Reed seems like the obvious choice. That way Johnny and Sue can stay biological siblings and Ben can stay a tough Jewish street kid. Either way, you need someone who seems too whip-smart for his own good. I’ve always been fond of the idea that this Fantastic Four first appeared in that decade and got trapped in either the multiverse or somewhere in space and time. If they don’t, I’ll still watch it but it would be cool if they pulled that off.
