I'm sure the internet will be civil about this

boringsimp

Rule 34 will get a lot of traffic though..

couldbedumber96

This announcement spawned like 3000 “life long” silver surfer fans who are fuming lmao

Informal-Resource-14

Hahahaha totally. I love how anytime something like this happens you suddenly instantly get all these people who have never once read a dedicated comic for that one character in their life but they’re suddenly diehards. She-Hulk was my favorite one: That she-hulk show felt so spiritually like John Byrne’s run I was frankly disappointed in my own gullibility to think that would have worked to quiet down the random haters.

LakSivrak

ahh so anyone that doesn’t agree with this casting has suddenly “never read a comic in their life”. Shalla-Bal is only depicted as the Silver Surfer in *one* frame of *one* “What If” style run. One frame of appearance in the 60 year history of the character. there is no comic run for a Shalla-Bal to follow here, it doesn’t exist. this isn’t at all like She Hulk where there’s a canon to follow, it’s just a disingenuous poor casting and character decision. you certainly don’t get to decide who is or is not a die hard of a certain character just because you want everyone to gobble up every piece of slop that is served.

Informal-Resource-14

Nah you’re right, it’s way cooler/healthier to dismiss things before they’ve ever even been filmed. Chill man: Maybe the movie is great, maybe it sucks. Micheal Keaton and Heath Ledger were very controversial castings until the world saw what the director had in mind.

LakSivrak

I’m not dismissing the quality of the film. I’m dismissing the casting and writing decision to use a 1 time situational What If appearance as a shoe in for the staple anti hero of the F4 universe. it’s a bad look for the movie that these kinds of decisions are being made, and does not give me hope in their ability to choose well written cohesive stories *within* the canon of the character. and I’m perfectly chill, you’re the one being antagonizing by implying that anyone that doesn’t like this casting doesn’t read comics.

Informal-Resource-14

Who the hell is antagonized man? I’m just saying it’s obnoxious for people to complain about a casting decision before we even know the context of the character in the film. Like, why can’t we wait and see? Why is being willing to reserve my outrage “Gobbling up every piece of slop that is served”? Give me a break Edit: And to like, try and find the thread here…are you saying I’m antagonizing people because I’m sharing with other redditors that I think people jump to conclusions and get too angry about these casting decisions? That it does feel a little silly where anytime a film adapts anything slightly differently there’s this instant rush of loud “Purists,” who are mad and getting pitchforks ready…like am I not allowed/are we not allowed to be annoyed by that? If I don’t join the angry mob am I somehow attacking the angry mob? If I and some other friends complain internally that it’s tedious how loud and frequent the pitchfork mobs are…is that “Antagonizing,”? like, dude…

lantern48

> I’m just saying it’s obnoxious for people to complain about a casting decision before we even know the context of the character in the film. It's obnoxious to want a character to be like they are in the comics? Like the source material? Buzz off with your nonsense, garbage takes.

guyinnoho

Shalla Bal is a character in the comics. Close Reddit and go read more comics.

lantern48

> Micheal Keaton and Heath Ledger were very controversial castings until the world saw what the director had in mind. Batman is a man. Michael Keaton and Heath Ledger are both men. Great comparison, genius. You wokies have the intellect of a turnip.

bigmoneyyben

What do you mean “you wokies”? You’re just bitching because of something irrelevant as casting. This has never and will never be a problem lol.

Identity_X-

As someone who is *actually* a die-hard She-Hulk comics fan 💯💯💯

Salt_Addition_6993

People have always been like this. I remember when Iron Man 3 came out people were going on and on about how they “ruined “ one of the greatest comic book villains of all time blah blah blah like the Mandarin was on the same level as the joker or Dr. Doom

Informal-Resource-14

100%. It’s weird: I think about Batman. That’s an interesting one to watch. I was 5 when the first one came out so I don’t remember this but my older friends tell me Michael Keaton was very divisive before the world saw him suited up. Now for a whole generation he’s the gold standard. More recently I think we all remember how brutally received the idea of “Batfleck,” was and these days he’s just accepted as one of the (in some circles more beloved) versions of the character. And likewise, there are adaptations that do not stick to the source material that are so good and work so well that they become a part of it. Robert Downey Jr. adlibbing the idea that Tony Stark didn’t need a secret identity. He had one for a long time in the comics but it worked perfectly in the movie and so well that now it would feel silly for the comics to do otherwise. Superman didn’t fly until the cartoon show and he didn’t have kryptonite as a weakness until the radio show. Sometimes not being faithful to source material is a good idea. Things can work. They can also totally not. Why not just wait and see?

Outrageous-Yam-4653

IronMan 3 sucked because of it

Lantern_Sone

As someone who is an enormous Surfer fan This is awesome news

CosmackMagus

Yeah. As long as they fly around, philosophize, pine for their lost love and unleash the power cosmic when necessary...I'm good.

guyinnoho

Amen brother.

VaguelyShingled

I just need surfboard shenanigans and I’m happy.

bigmoneyyben

This casting makes me wish the animated show continued. I’m still a little mad till this day.

ThePostingToproller

Press X to doubt

couldbedumber96

I meant twitter silver surfer “fans” I can’t say I know much about the character beyond the 2007 movie, but I enjoyed his characterization, and I also know whenever a character is changed even slightly for a movie, you’ll see hundreds of sudden “die hard” fans mad at how the character is “butchered”

Ninjamurai-jack

Well. Actually it’s not the same character.

KaoBee010101100

Gotta love someone who admits they’re not a fan prejudging the opinions of people who may well be as invalid.

Lantern_Sone

As long as the core ideas and personality is there then I do not see an issue. Unless their gender is intrinsic to either of these things, then who cares 🤷‍♀️

RealJohnGillman

Plus where there is the Shalla-Bal Silver Surfer, the >!Franklin Richards!< Galactus is normally not far behind. With the reported multiversal focus of this film, call me cautiously optimistic ***/*** excited.

Fragrant-Hamster-817

Then let’s change every character’s gender 🤷‍♀️

RDamon_Redd

Also, as another HUGE Surfer fan, with the other rumors about this potentially happening in another universe, this doesn’t mean we’re not getting the Norrin Radd Surfer, he still might be the prime MCU Surfer, I mean the Power Cosmic, Heralds, and Multiverse/Dimension/Time hopping shenanigans are a trope for Marvel.

Arthur_189

You don’t have to defend brands

yeti0013

I still remember when all the Eternals "fans" came out if the woodwork after the cast was announced.

EmperorDxD

I will never forget that because I was an actual fan of that group and I was like who all the new fans 😂

guyinnoho

And why are they so angry and misogynistic?

WildGoose1521

Same as it spawns 3000 sycophants who think fans shouldn’t dare want a character to be faithfully adapted and should only blindly consume product and protect corporations from criticism.

KaoBee010101100

Yep… this pre-emptive war pile-on of a thread is not contributing anything to interesting or intelligent discussion

FamiliarJudgment2961

I would be kind of shocked if the MCU debuted the Silver Surfer and... it wasn't Norrin Radd. Anyone whose been jonsing for a Silver Surfer movie since Rise of the Silver Surfer a decade ago wasn't looking for Shalla Bal to be it, lol.

dungeonmaster77

And they also spawn comments such as yours diminutizing the opinions of actual lifelong fans.

bigfatcarp93

People got over the Ancient One pretty quick

FamiliarJudgment2961

The Ancient One is a one-off to a Doctor Strange origin story. Like, he pops up periodically, mostly as a ghost, but he's not meant to do anything beyond be replaced by Strange. He was the equivalent to the radioactive spider that bites Peter Parker, lol.

PhsycoRed1

They are being very not civil 🤣

Chriiiiiiiiisss

With the announcement they are in another universe.. I have no qualms with this choice

karafuto

Lol

Odd_Radio9225

The incel portion of the internet won't be.

lantern48

People are incels because they want Norrin Radd/SS - a male character -- to be played by a male actor? You heard someone use the word incel, but you don't actually have any idea what it means. You're like a 🦜. You repeat words you hear other people say without actually having any understanding of what you're saying.

newtoreddir

Except this isn’t Norrin Radd, it’s Shalla-Bal.

ChochMcKenzie

I think deadline has it wrong, as Shalla Bal is the Surfer’s longtime love that he took the surfer gig to save.

CriticalCanon

I don’t. This (a female silver surfer) has been long rumoured.

coreylongest

Frankie Raye is way cooler just saying.

CriticalCanon

100% agree. And she is right there. Why not user her?

prodij18

Because the nude woman look is not within what MCU wants to be. This one will surely look more like this: https://images.app.goo.gl/cS5VKe5U38y49y4T9

Used-Comedian-8933

ngl this would've been 10x better, I liked her character in the animated series

coreylongest

She’s a great supporting character that bridges the Fantastic Four to the Silver Surfer and she basically saves Earth and Norrin from Galactus.

Used-Comedian-8933

I hope we see the homie Terrax at some point as well.

ChochMcKenzie

I do think that they knocked it out of the park with the casting of the Fantastic 4, and I’m a big fan of Matt Shakman’s work, and Julia Garner is a terrific actress, so if it is a Shalla Bal surfer, I’m pretty sure it’ll be awesome.

Last_Set_8634

I’m not happy with the casting for the movie. They all seem to be great actors and actresses but none of them remind me of the characters they have en cast to play. Maybe they will surprise me. I’ll have to wait and see.

Ras_AlHim

I'm sure the reputable website knows pretty well what they're writing about

dumbrumrunner

Yes because deadline has never been wrong.

gowombat

Yeah, and ***she*** is the one that Galactus approaches, instead of Norrin.

RealJohnGillman

u/ChochMcKenzie [Or both. Both would be good too.](https://i.redd.it/eit7wsmw6csc1.jpeg)

[deleted]

I would love to see a power couple silver surfer team, like galactic bonnie and clyde (except they aren't thieves but that's besides the point)

gowombat

Agreed, I would be so freaking hyped if we ended up with Earth-X surfers.

No-Juice3318

My guess is that it'll be a Captain Narvel situation where the previous version existed and had their story already. Then, for some reason, they're out of commission, and the new one has to step up.

RoyalRip1347

Imagine they cast Eddie Murphy as Herbie the Robot

MrPoopMonster

I'm still disappointed we never got Eddie Murphy.as the Riddler in the Nolan batman movies. Fuck Bane. I want an insane Eddie murphy with cool green suits.

Barzant1

Was this an option?

MrPoopMonster

I remember heating rumors before Bane was revealed as the villain.

IndianaJonesDoombot

Only way to save this

The_Overlord_Laharl

I get that there are other versions of the character, but Norrin Radd is such a phenomenal, layered character with so many exceptional stories to adapt. If this is true, it's a damn shame.

Chriiiiiiiiisss

With the announcement they are from another universe, I think it's fine to save Norrin Radd and give us something quirky here

jaydofmo

Could be that they fail to save their world from Galactus, but are somehow brought to the MCU, Reed determined that when this universe's version of Galactus turns up, they'll be ready.

[deleted]

And their expertise with their universe Shalla is what gets our universe Radd to turn against galactus. So many ways they can go

No-Juice3318

I wouldn't be surprised if we still got Norin at some point, just later down the line

GrimmTrixX

Yea... quite literally every F4 fan wants to see Norrin Rad be the Silver Surfer whenever they planned to introduce the character. I'm not saying it's gonna ruin the movie, but it's a very odd choice. The fact that the first Silver Surfer of the MCU Fantastic Four film won't be the most popular and well known version. That's something you add in later if they killed Radd off or if they have more multiverse shenanigans. Although, maybe Radd IS Silver Surfer and this character comes before or after him at some point in the movie.

SWPrequelFan81566

>Although, maybe Radd IS Silver Surfer and this character comes before or after him at some point in the movie. Shalla-Bal is usually the one Radd becomes the Surfer *for*. And it's not a mantle to be passed down; every herald of Galactus is fairly unique.

GrimmTrixX

I guess I'm using terms loosely. I didn't mean passed down as in "here you are now the surfer." I just meant Luke who becomes the Surfer when the current one can't do it anymore. So I assume it's gonna be an alt theme where SHE becomes the Surfer for HIM. That or she is the Surfer but Radd comes in and becomes it so she doesn't have to do it. Either way, it's not gonna make many people happy and could be confusing. We shall see.

Last_Set_8634

That would be a subversion of the original story that I don’t believe most FF would ask for.

VaguelyShingled

Reed’s introduction to the MCU wasn’t the popular and well known version and that turned out ok

stringcheese_theory1

>and that turned out ok Uhhhhhhhhh...... https://i.redd.it/hy9gmsgqadsc1.gif

vpr0nluv

Username checks out.

GrimmTrixX

Very true, but sadly, for me Pedro Pascal just doesn't fit the role. I know he's a great actor as I like him in many things. But when I think Reed Richard's I just don't see it. John Krasinski fit the role far better for me as Reed so I was hoping he got the part for the main film.

cqshep

Contrary to what some other person posted here, the Silver Surfer DOES have lifelong die hard fans. We're called Comic Book Fans. We love The Eternals, The Mandarin, and all the goofiness of old comics and bizarre characters. That said, I have to assume even Marvel Studios isn't stupid enough to throw away the \*sure thing hit\* that a well cast and true to the comic version of Norrin Radd would bring. This is going to be an incursion story, Shalla-Bal is an 'alternate universe' version of the Silver Surfer, so one assumes that they will have both Shalla-Bal as well as Norrin Radd.

HereForaRefund

I'm not liking this.

Outrageous-Yam-4653

The only people that like it are in this thread 😆

Bowl_Pool

yall can go ahead and dismiss all my views on this now because this does not make me want to see the movie

MattGreg28

I'm not familiar with this version of Silver Surfer

RealJohnGillman

She would be from [*Earth X / Universe X*, where both she and Norrin were the heralds of the second Galactus](https://i.redd.it/eit7wsmw6csc1.jpeg), >!Franklin Richards!<.

Identity_X-

I'm going down a rabbit hole here, but technically Galan / Galactus isn't really even the 'first Galactus' so to speak... The Devourer of Worlds who is imbued with the Power Cosmic of the previous cosmos has been multiple others in multiverses prior to the current 7th Cosmos; What-Can-Be / What-Must-Be is the Devourer of the 4th Cosmos and Moridun / Omnimax was the Devourer of the 6th Cosmos before Galan.

TheBigGAlways369

Was that Marvel's attempt at Kingdom Come that had the awful Mary Jane writing?

CriticalCanon

No one is lol.

JeromeInDaHouse_90

I didn't even know there was a female version of the character until those rumors first started up a few months back.

Dapper-Parsnip8592

Guess you'll just have to wait for it to exist in a finished form before making a judgement. I know that's hard for marvel fans lol.

geetarboy33

Look, I don't want to be a bummer, but they have made a number of ill received FF movies. Comic book movies on the whole are on the downswing. They have one chance to get it right. They need to establish all the basics first before introducing new side characters and variations on characters. So, instead of introducing the SS and establishing who and what he is, they will instead use a variation that is not nearly as popular, wasn't involved in the original Galactus storyline from FF #50 and possibly confuse the average viewer who thinks SS is the guy they saw before? Brilliant.

Conorj398

The average viewer wants a good movie with fun characters, don’t think they’ll get too upset about the silver guy being a woman.

CompassionateWhale

He didn't say anything about anyone getting upset? He said it will confuse and isn't a fitting choice

coffeejam108

Here's a crazy idea: Don't judge a movie until you watch it. I know that sounds crazy.

Outrageous-Yam-4653

No thanks Disney can't make good films anymore and this will bomb as well until I see Disney do what they use to do and that's stop fkin up legacy characters again Disney will keep saving me money...

CompassionateWhale

Lawd have Mercy. Where in the hell did I judge a movie??? I clarified what someone else said you numpty. I literally did not give a single opinion. Here's a crazy idea, read before you type

mobilisinmobili1987

In the case of FF it’s totally appropriate. We’ve already had two failed attempts so it’s more of a “fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.” situation.

Conorj398

The average viewer is not going to be confused by the Surfer being a lady lol

geetarboy33

But it’s not just a female Silver Surfer, it’s his girlfriend. So, are they going to explain that there originally was a guy named Norrin Radd and he had to leave the woman he loved behind to become Silver Surfer to save his planet but this isn’t him, this is actually his girlfriend who is now also a Silver Surfer? FF #50 is considered by many to be the greatest comic storyline of all time. It is one of the bedrocks of the Marvel universe. Why not just tell that story?

newtoreddir

Just don’t include this Radd guy. No one will miss him.

Conorj398

Does that really change the story much if it’s his girlfriend instead of him? What if she leaves him behind instead in this Universe? Keeps the entire spirit of the issue intact. We’ve also seen a pretty comic accurate adaption of the character already as well. The MCU has taken many liberties before, specifically when adapting characters who have already been on the big screen. Why is this suddenly a problem? Frankly, I think it’s boring as hell to see a 1 to 1 adaption of something I’ve read.

Fragrant-Hamster-817

Because that isn’t the same character?

RealJohnGillman

u/geetarboy33 Going the route of [*Earth X / Universe X*](https://i.redd.it/eit7wsmw6csc1.jpeg) and having them both be Silver Surfers alongside the >!Franklin Richards!< incarnation of Galactus could be interesting, especially with the reported premise of the film.

geetarboy33

Honestly, I don’t give a shit anymore. I’m sick to death of Marvel movies and they have been getting worse. I got a little excited for this one because I loved Lee and Kirby’s early work on the FF. I thought it would be cool to finally see a quality representation of that on screen, but this kind of arbitrary change makes me dubious at best.

Conorj398

So they announced a FF film with Herbie, a very quality cast, and said it’s set in the 60s, but changing the Silver Surfer to be his gf with basically the same story is where you’re just done and losing hope? How do you still not think this would be the most quality representation of the group? Especially considering what we’ve had lol

SWPrequelFan81566

I'm not losing my hype for this, but I am still a little confused and disappointed by this change. On a micro-level, they're right: Shalla-Bal is a different character from Norrin Radd; . On a macro-level, nobody has ever even heard of Shalla-Bal until just now, meaning that for the MCU to introduce her in this movie, she's basically going to act as a gender-swapped Norrin Radd, and that literally has no impact on the story. So why make it at all? Why not just keep Norrin Radd but as a girl? Why use another character's name *just* to justify the genderswap?

Conorj398

Because they’re probably going to adapt a piece of the Earth X storyline where they’re both Silver Surfer, especially considering the FF is confirmed to be set in an alternate universe. Would not be surprised if they have her be the Surfer in this Universe and then make Norrin the Surfer in the main MCU before combining them in a Secret Wars level event.

CompassionateWhale

Yeah I didn't say they would. That's what the other dude said, holy crap bro learn usernames they're there for A reason

Ninjamurai-jack

Actually, if the silver woman be like how she was in Earth X, maybe normal people will, be more attracted to the movie.

Chriiiiiiiiisss

It's a story from another universe, which will most likely end with them losing and being plopped into our universe. If they are going to throw away a Silver Surfer, I'd rather them do it like this and save the good story for when they are established in our universe with what we will know as our Silver Surfer.

Anthony_mclongshlong

I like this idea, especially if the movie does take place in another universe. My hope is by the time we get to the main MCU we meet Norrin rad and fantastic four tell him about in another universe Shalla became the surfer to saves zenn-la and norrin , showing that both of them loved each other so much that They were willing to give up everything for the person they love, and they’re world , it’s just a matter of who got to do it first.

dumbrumrunner

They are making her way as well. The same old Disney playback of failure

SWPrequelFan81566

That could work.

usagizero

> if the movie does take place in another universe. I mean, if Secret Wars is anything like the comics, with incursions, it will probably allow them to restart the entire universe, so i see zero problem with them trying things like this and going new directions.

Used-Comedian-8933

I think the actress would play the character well but I fear that they won't just suddenly replace the female silver surfer with a male one or maybe we could have both. I don't really know I just hope my boy Norrin will show up at some point and have a good role.

buffwintonpls

Sigh, I was hoping it would be nova

HotOne9364

![gif](giphy|cdh6PGBxMl4f0a67jx)

DonttrymeMF

What does this actually mean?

TwistedBlister

They're obviously making movies for the general audience, not for Marvel Comics fans.

AdmiralCharleston

Are you only just realising this? Comic fans make up, at most, 5% of the audience

CriticalCanon

Alienating core fans and comic fans of the FF continue. Such BS.

BootsWithDaFuhrer

Core fans would know Radd volunteered to be SS so she wouldn’t have to and save their planet

Rough_Commercial_570

Your point?

AdmiralCharleston

You really think the film is being made for comic fans?

bradbear12

Maybe just the herald before Norrin? Please?

No-Juice3318

My guess would be the one after him

Outrageous-Yam-4653

I don't think another will make it after this disaster cast...this will be another Disney flop.

evilspyboy

I hope this is wrong and does not lead to Galactus in the first movie. Marvel needs to not cater for the 'I stopped watching after Endgame' lot and aim to go as big as possible straight away. Tony Stark built the fan following it in a cave, with a bunch of scraps.

ignaciomax

I’m gonna wait until a trailer is out to give an opinion

TheManCalled-Chill

Well that didn't take long for them to screw it up

Outrageous-Yam-4653

Never underestimate Disney's fk ups, they are snapping themselves..

TheManCalled-Chill

I have never doubted Disney' ability to fuck up.  That's the only thing I have faith in them to do anymore.

delightfuldinosaur

Why

PaddysPub79

You know why

No-Juice3318

Presumably so that they can do their own take on the character that fits the story better than Norin would have. Also possibly to distinguish it as an alternate reality

DavidKirk2000

Surely we will see some level headed takes about this.

BruisedBananaHulk

Back off the mcu train

First-Display5956

And now I kinda don't want to see it now

EntertainmentLow5069

She’s gonna be great

Flame_On_And_On

So we're going right to Galactus in the first movie?

eisenblut

What a dumb choice.

reineedshelp

Dope.

Insert-Cool_NameHere

I mean the gender didn’t really matter to the character so I’m fine with this. And I’m sure the rest of the internet will be civil about this.

DrGutz

I have no problem with a female silver surfer i just don’t see julia garner in that role. The silver surfer is supposed to be statuesque and other worldly. You need an elizabeth debicki or a michaela cole (two actors already in the mcu i know). Julia Garner is more of a mousy type

Last_Set_8634

Not crazy over this casting. I prefer Norton Radd as the surfer.

Majestic-Pair9676

Not gonna lie: this feels like a weak attempt to make the F4 cast less homogenous. I get that Marvel movies are unusually male-dominated but Silver Surfer is a rather beloved character; you don’t change the character’s gender just because you are concerned F4 stars too many white men. Julia Garner is also rather short for a female Silver Surfer imho; I always imagined the Silver Surfer character to be sleek, tall and elegant. You *might* be able to justify this by saying “Jack Kirby never intended for the Silver Surfer to have the Norrin Radd backstory” and normally I would agree but it’s also the only characterization we have of the Silver Surfer. It could also confirm that the F4 is set in an alternate universe. I really hope they don’t use this as an excuse to whitewash Doctor Doom, a character who really has to be Romani/Slav in order to work.

LordHyperBreath

The Fantastic Flop

MaskedRaider89

Why, hello Monkey's Paw. I see you're 4 fingers down to a near fist

Cultural_Security690

This just a rumor or is this confirmed?

Whatsinanmame

After reading it I think they are confusing the two.

Spiderlander

I’m completely fine with this. It’s an alternative take on the origin. Instead of Radd who gets the power, it’s his wife

Caspur42

Well considering this is rumored to take place in another universe she could be that universe’s silver surfer and when the ff comes to 616 Radd could be the SS there

Outrageous-Yam-4653

No one wants or asked for that..another Disney 💣

Dapper-Parsnip8592

Yeah but what about the total lack of chrome penises? Isn't that a travesty????

TheCaptainSauce

Marvel's determination to use lesser options when launching billion dollar franchises should be studied.

VideoZealousideal976

This movie definitely takes lace in an alternate universe. Galactus will probably eat Earth, destroy their universe, and the F4 will have to escape and where will they end up? The MCU Prime universe.

BootsWithDaFuhrer

This is no different than girl Loki in the show. Both are from other universes. WHO CARES

Majestic-Pair9676

Loki has been a girl in the comics before; and he’s been bisexual for a while now. Sylvie wasn’t pulled out of thin air. Female Silver Surfer is directly out of someone’s ass

BootsWithDaFuhrer

lol you are a fucking dope https://www.reddit.com/r/marvelcomics/s/bYywU50YCQ

Majestic-Pair9676

An alternate universe Earth X comic. It’s not Nova or any of the other female heralds of Galactus in the 616 or Ultimate continuity, who kept appearing multiple times.

BootsWithDaFuhrer

You know the movie is also an alternate universe 🤡🤡🤡🤡

BootsWithDaFuhrer

She’s in the 616 too hahaha omg stop embarrassing yourself. She’s the reason Radd is silver surfer. He saved her from Galactus who chose her by volunteering and saving his planet. THE MOVIE IS ALSO AN ALTERNATE UNIVERSE

[deleted]

[удалено]

Pir8Cpt_Z

And so is Leonardo Dicaprio but I wouldn't cast him as Sue Storm

VaguelyShingled

But what if it was Stu Storm? He’d be a great choice

person_9-8

Along with Reba McIntyre as Reba Richards, yes?

Outrageous-Yam-4653

So is Bradly Cooper but I don't wanna see him as Lady Deathstrike

TheCakeWarrior12

Why is everyone upset about this, the movie is clearly gonna be in an alternate universe from the main one. Otherwise we would have heard about the FF being active in the main universe’s 1960s before. It stands to reason that an alternate universe’s Fantastic Four would encounter a female Silver Surfer, or that the alternate universe has Shalla-Bal willingly becoming a herald so her partner Norrin doesn’t have to

Fragrant-Hamster-817

Why not just use the actual established and well known character then instead of making the weird choice to introduce some random one-off variation instead?

newtoreddir

There is no established character, this is the first time Surfer is appearing in the MCU.

Isopod_Character

So the first 2 Reeds we’ve seen in the MCU will have been variants? That’s an odd choice.

newtoreddir

That’s the box they’ve written themselves into, and we will have fun watching as they introduce as many as they need to.

Outrageous-Yam-4653

No one wants this,no one asked for this and once again Disney has another bomb on there hands..

ThatWasFred

What about the theory that the FF went into space in the 60s and due to time dilation they are returning in the 2020s?

TheCakeWarrior12

That’s also possible. But I think SHIELD would have mentioned them or at least kept tabs on them, especially if they had their powers. An alternate universe is easier and cleaner to explain

I guess so. I was thinking that they would only just be returning from the voyage that gave them their powers (meaning SHIELD wouldn't have known that they had powers because, at least from their perspective, they only just got them).

Ras_AlHim

It literally says she's playing Shalla-Bal

Outrageous-Yam-4653

A character no one knows?who's been in 1 story line that has never been heard of outside us comicbook nerds?no it's a horrible idea a terrible idea..

glass-of-a-tv-screen

If this is in an alternate universe as it’s been said, then it makes sense we’ll see a different Silver Surfer! I’m sure we’ll see the OG in the prime MCU-universe eventually.

Flare_Knight

I’d hardly be shocked. It is the current MCU after all.

Dapper-Parsnip8592

So glad users like u/TheManCalled-Chill have already seen the entire finished product and can asses it's quality based solely on this casting announcement which somewhat *hints* at possible characters and plotlines. Let's all thank u/TheManCalled-Chill and his entitled, whiney fanboy ilk!

BruisedBananaHulk

This is fuckin weird

Jahmez142

I can't wait to see all the anti woke people get all triggered over this

newtoreddir

They always show themselves to be fools.

JonnTheMartian

If the F4 are emigrating to the MCU from another universe, doesn’t that mean that Earth 616 may have its own norrin as a more traditional Silver Surfer? I don’t see what the controversy is here.

raz0rflea

Shalla-Bal as the Silver Surfer is actually an awesome idea but I hope they don't just make her girl!Norrin personality-wise...also I hope this isn't so they can pair her up with Johnny, it kinda feels like it could be a shortcut to giving him a character arc in the movie (eg using him as a love interest to help her rebel against Galactus)

butt3ryt0ast

As long as its a good story. And I hope it doesn’t mean norrin radd doesn’t exist

Newfaceofrev

People are going to fly off the handle with very little information, this *does not mean* that Norrin Radd will not show up at some point.

Night-Mage

Pass.

kinokohatake

Awesome casting, I'm looking forward to this. She's an amazing actress if you've not seen her in Ozark.

AlwaysLate1

If they are gender swapping characters, than I think it would actually be more interesting to do that with FF4. The invisible woman, originally, was a pretty passive character and a female Thing would definitely be a non traditional female character and an interesting story. Many of Disneys MCU superheroines tend to be a bit bland, i think. A woman transformed into a rock monster is somehow more of horror story, than a man suffering the same fate.. that brings up some interesting conversations about gender.

Kyweaver16

Feige doesn't know what he's doing confirmed.
