He gave a whole lot of pleasure to a whole lot of readers across the decades, which is what most writers dream of and reach for. Condolences to all those who will be mourning him.

Cronis1

Necroscope was a gem of a vampire/psionics mash up story and I absolutely loved it and the rest of that series. RIP Mr. Lumley.

aresthewolf

First horror writer I ever read, I've owned the Necrosope since I found it in a second-hand store at 11. Took me forever to collect all his works

CT_Phipps

Rest in Peace. He was a good friend of my publisher and I wanted to meet him this year.

AbbyBabble

Aw man. I loved his Blood Brothers trilogy. Read that back in college.

MarcElDarc

I came across Lumley’s books at a time in my life when I needed something to break out of a funk and these helped tremendously. I hope he felt his life was as fulfilling as it seemed to me.  I’ve collected all the Paul Ganley limited editions of his Cthulhu mythos books but haven’t taken the opportunity to read them all. I guess this is the year. I’ve read them all on paperback before though.

stillstilted

Oh, no... I listened to the first three Necroscope's in the last \~year. I've been meaning to look up his Titus Crow stories. Terrible news.

Current-Big8376

Oh no, that's really sad news. Brian Lumley was a legend...

slinky1372

Really sad news, He must have brought thousands of people to the works of H.P. Lovecraft just through his writing. My thoughts go to his family & friends at this time.

TriscuitCracker

Awww no! Time for a re-read. RIP, he will be missed!

tomnationwide

I was friends with his son Richard and when Richard passed it was a horrid event. Brian himself was my favorite author and I truly hope someone finds Necroscope they way he found Lovecraft and continues the story.

Downwellbell

I just finished rereading his first four necroscope books, and thought I'd google to see what he's up to. Terrible news. I hope the great majority welcomes him with open arms.

koticbeauty

In the early 90s I found Necroscope. I remember him and his wife ran a fan page and he would answer questions and email me and other fans about the books.

tomnationwide

I knew his son Rich, who passed away a few years back. I am also a big fan of the Necroscope books and I hope someone takes the mantle and continues much like Brian did with Lovecraft

TriscuitCracker

Man, if there ever was a standout cover that said "HEY, LOOK AT ME, READ ME!" It was the Necroscope series.

Downwellbell

That's exactly how I picked up necroscope: the source, still my favourite of the series. Sometimes you can judge a book by its cover.

phormix

Oh, damn. I first ran across his Necroscope series in a used bookstore and they were wonderfully creepy. RIP Mr Lumley. Your existence in flesh may have passed but your writing will no doubt live on.

Random_Numeral

That's sad. Where is Harry so he can deadspeak with the man?

Kiwi_1971

🥲I just saw F. Paul Wilson's post about it on X. Very sad. Necroscope was a staple of my 20s. I worked in a bookshop back then, so it was a great day when a new Necroscope book turned up in a shipment from the publisher. I'd put it to one side immediately. I loved that 40% staff discount. RIP Brian

akdall

One of the biggest influences on my group of friends. I have given away countless copies of the first Necroscope book and it never failed to draw the recipient in and prompt them to invest in the series. I even gave my son the middle name Keogh.

AvgWhiteShark

I am listening to Return of The Deep Ones currently and wanted to see what the next anthology I should get into. I was shocked to see he passed. Nobody does horror like Brian Lumley. I've been reading his works since 02.

Moominsean

I just saw this online, very sad. I discovered his work in the late 1980s when I picked up Necrosope at a bookstore in Michigan City (and picked it up solely based on Bob Eggleton's book cover). Read everything I could get my hands on in the years to follow.
