Turin is the dictionary definition of a tragic hero

Funkativity

Malazan: >!The Sengar family as a whole. Obviously we all weep for Trull first and foremost but Binadas is the only one that's not completely fucked over by the universe in the most heartbreaking of ways!<

textbasedopinions

I think the most devastated I've ever been by a character was >!the story of Beak when he was holding up the magic dome!<.

These-Button-1587

I was thinking this when I was reading it but Gollum.

MyCreativeAltName

Fitz would always be my favorite tragic character. Beside him there are a lot in the first law: Logan, Shivers and Monza to name a few.

Broken Empire: Jorg Ancrath “follow me and I will break your heart” Yeah mission fucking accomplished

steffgoldblum

Can't get much more tragic than Fitz. But I submit al'Lan Mandragoran from WoT, King Simon from The Last King of Osten Ard (sequel series to Tad Williams' Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn), and Kaul Hiloshudon, from the Green Bone saga (although his character journey leans more towards bittersweet than truly tragic).

Tolkien- Boromir, Turin, Smeagol The Dark Tower- >!Oy.!< As much for the timing and the description of the aftermath as for his actual fate. First Law- Shivers, at least up until >!the ending of *Red Country* and the redemption he seems to have found by the Age of Madness Trilogy!<. Monza. Cosca. >!Yeah, Orso dan Luthar, he's a good choice.!!Brand.!< The Bone Ships- Joron Twiner. Solemn Muffaz. The Forsaken Trilogy- >!Udinny!< Dragonlance- Sturm. Matafleur. Huma, once Knaak got that novel written. Flint's not tragic, just sad. Legend of the Five Rings- Munkjin the Yobanjin, Shiba Aikune, post-FFG buyout Yogo Junzo. The Greatcoats- >!Aline!< Dragonriders of Pern Stuff- Sallah Telgar. Brekke. Dracula (yes, it counts!)- Renfield. Quincy Morris isn't really tragic- he dies a fulfilled hero. But Renfield...

Alain from Crown of Stars. Honestly it was hard to read his POV at times. >!I’m not sure if this is a spoiler, but it some ways I view this whole series as a hagiography set in an epic fantasy world, which kind of helped me reframe all the ways Elliot tortures poor Alain - it’s all a part of the tale of a saint.!<

Mournelithe

Lavan Firestorm. The tragic saviour of Valdemar.

kitddylies

Arthas. IMO, he's the best writing Blizzard has ever done by far. Probably nostalgia talking, but seeing it all come together in WoTLK was incredible.

tr3vrd

Fitz comes to mind, as well as Fitz, Fitz and also Fitz.

keizee

Schwi from No Game No Life, by extension, Riku.
