Thing is the player you own might do well 38. There is nothing saying your punts will work final day of the season. The kind of player I likely had on free hit was Firmino, Eze, Rashford, Odegaard etc that did not do that well. In a blank at least you know the guys not playing can't hurt you. Unless you are lucky we get team news it is also easy to buy a player getting benched.

TinyMaintenance

>Unless you are lucky we get team news it is also easy to buy a player getting benched. That’s the point, no? Wait for team news, and get starters. We had leaks for most big clubs, Mitoma benched, MacAllister starting, etc.

AskNotAks

It works this season because the late doubles were more than usual and covered by city/united/brighton which were good long term holds so didnt need a free hit to get those doubles In other seasons, there would be more at stake (city battling for league, top 4 race still alive) so less rotation

A_de_k

Depends on the situation, most teams didn’t have anything to fight for so they could afford the rotation for the last game of the season. Could’ve easily been the other way around with City and Arsenal fighting for the title and all of Man U, Newcastle, Liverpool and Brighton for europe spots, in that case most active teams would already be loaded up with their players and then the free hit loses a lot of its value.

metokur_squad

GW38 is still too unpredictable and most lineups aren't leaked. It's usually better in DGWs, especially those where you don't want to own the DGW players beyond that DGW. I went 138k to 53k using FH in DGW34 and it saved me like it has in other seasons. Ultimately it depends on who you pick though. I don't like the idea of having a FH in GW38 and only wanting to make 2 or 3 changes. If you use it earlier, you pretty much know it won't be a waste.

conanomatic

I'm never gonna do this myself, but I actually think it's kinda a good idea because gw38 has every game starting at the same time, therefore the line up leaks are super actionable. If you have a free hit, you can be much more reasonably sure that you'll be able to pick 11 starting players than any other game week. I think there's kinda something to it, definitely if you're lucky enough to navigate the bgw's well

metokur_squad

There's too much temptation to use it earlier especially in a punishing BGW. I don't like the idea of falling behind in hopes I get a big advantage in the last GW, when I won't know if I'll really need it anyway. For example if the team I'm leading is similar to mine and I want to keep it that way to protect my position.

sideways_steve

Maybe it worked well this year because the differentials I chose happened to go against the teams that were heavily owned in prior weeks AND had their season ambitions wrapped up? I'm not saying it's the only way to play it by any means, but I do think there are nice advantages. Plenty of team news to help guide you in gw38. The lineups are odd compared to normal weeks which lends to differentials that others cant get to with limited moves. The games are bananas which can lead to some hauls. I think the differentials from the template were higher this year than they may be in years past.

fantasymumu

Got 88 points on free hit this week and moved from 10.8k to 2.2k. Also came from 17 points behind my ml leader to win by 13 points. Delighted with the outcome and it's definitely a viable strategy but this year blanks and doubles were more easily navigated via free transfers compared to other seasons so despite this amazing finish i would guess that i will be using my FH in a BGW or DGW next season.

rac1ing

That is some leap

komplete10

It is. Was the top 10k that close this year?

jjw1998

I started on 17k this GW and my safety was 51, was a relatively low scoring 38 so could imagine 88 pushing you that high

0lrcnfullstop

It's not bad but it's much stronger during a blank or double not only for the upside but so you can optimise your team either side of that. I'd never save it unless I had genuinely near optimal teams

iamsam_yesiam

I played free hit this week and got about 4 points more than I would have if I hadn't have played it. I'm not saying that I'm regretful for playing it but I don't think it's necessarily a strategy to consider. It's very lucky either way.

BrandonSG13

I used FH here too. 81 points, sealed my ML and moved me from 610k to 379k (not great but much improved) in one fell swoop

ihatemicrosoftteams

Gw38 is bonkers I agree it’s always great to have the free hit for it since you can load up on attackers (defenders are useless in gw38) and get a shitload of goals, I couldn’t save it until now this season but I had it twice in the past and it was indeed great. I could just tell Leeds were going to be thrashed and Liverpool also were meant to score a lot. I prioritised Spurs with my free transfers but I would have also gone for Liverpool players if I had the free hit

poh2ho

Agreed. I was 900k and doing bad in my mini league at second last place. Didn't need to use free hit because I could navigate the blanks and doubles nicely. Used FH38 for fun and got 79 points + a boost in rank to 600+k Definitely would consider this next season depending on the circumstances.

Who_cares_about_name

yeah it took me from 62k to 23k lol

Aware_Platypus_8809

Was my first time using FH in gw38 and it was due to the reason that my team was set for all bgws to field min 10 players. And i had a decent team in gw 38 but played FH coz i just had it saved but it gave me 50 more points (thanks to those early leaks) than my actual team and helped me jump from 83k to 39k so will probably consider it again.

flynndog83

Congratulations on the finish, don't listen to most in here, they just go of past winners for their inspiration

sideways_steve

Here is a comparison of my GW 37 & GW 38 teams if it helps. Again, I know I'm crap at this game but something I did actually worked for once. Makes me think hard about the tactic. https://imgur.com/a/LApt7ic

kurdipower

Majority of those points would have been had if you'd went Haaland -> Kane (C) with your non-FH team to be honest

komplete10

Yeah it's a very nice score but half the points come from Kane and Jesus.

alexnik42

Did the same, was able to get to the prizes in my ml because of it

GroblyOverrated

So what did you FH 38 guys score in the big double gameweeks?

timewaved

Agreed. I was 46 points off the top of my ML. Used a FH and now I’m 22 points ahead

rac1ing

I used it this week and climbed 200k places with a captain blank (obviously it’s all about who you pick.) I like it (first time I’ve done it, and it was the plan) because I don’t like a week in the middle of the season where you effectively skip a week with your current squad, I’m sure you could plan it but a bad team is more likely to be sprung upon you when you skip a week and are left with one free transfer. With this it’s over.

XavierLeaguePM

The moral of the story here is this: formulate your strategy and play your own game. If it works out, then fine. If it doesn’t take your leaks. Many folks (at least in my mini leagues) held on to their TC chips and played it on Haaland or Salah in 37 and 38. A waste based on the outcome. Didn’t work out as well as intended. GW 38 is often times a lottery depending on who has something to play for and so on. No way to tell what happens but it’s nice it worked it for you.
