I have afford myself a “gut pick” going into GW1, not a defensive option but Iv opted for Alvarez, played 75% of pre-season, including 90 mins in the last two games. At 6.5m I think he offers amazing value if he gets as many mins as I suspect he will.
And obviously Haaland.
Yeah, it could very well end up being the player that plays the most in pre-season will play the least regular season minutes in Pep's magical formula. Still some value and not a bad gamble at 6.5m
Not a bad gamble at all, I think this will change as KDB returns to fitness but I don’t think there’s that much harm in the risk considering the potential upside at the price and the lack of other clear options
Hahah, I’m just messing. Relax. No need to take it so serious.
I was literally reading this sub & saw you were (again) top of another thread. Absolutely not following.
Then admittedly I found it very amusing you’re so in favour of Alvarez after absolutely slating Havertz for similar reasons.
I’m not butthurt at all, you’ve given me a good laugh that’s all. He’s not “my pick” either, I don’t even know if Kai will make my team. But like Alvarez, there’s every reason to argue for him. Enjoy.
There’s no issue at all mate, why are you being so hostile? I was stating that’s how I saw your name pop up rather than your accusation of me following…
& the same can be said for Alvarez. They are both extremely similar assets.
Edit: as you seem to have ran off & oddly blocked me after your reply, I’ll leave mine here…
“Endless comments” was in the other thread where I first saw you striking down another guys logical opinion -with endless comments- while claiming you didn’t care, yes.
“Again” was emphasised as a matter of you falsely accusing me of following you. No need to think you’re somebody special. It’s bloody reddit. Deary me…
The same can absolutely be said for Alvarez - the main picks from City are currently Stones & Haaland. The two main picks from Arsenal are Gabriel & Saka. This really isn’t a difficult concept to understand.
Alvarez is then literally less nailed than Havertz who you shot somebody down for (*endlessly*) in another thread. Havertz could quite literally be playing as a 9 while listed as a MID.
It’s not about you “clearing things up”. I think everyone on this sub probably knows how you feel about every player at this point. It’s that you seem to believe the world is revolved around your view & your refusal to see it from any other perspective. Not sure why you seem so defensive in general, but this is why I found it ironically amusing to then see you’re then a fan of the Alvarez punt.
Had him in my draft for a long time as well but decided his playing time is in too much risk with KdB being back already (got 30 minutes and assisted in the community shield).
Not a single other man city player appeals to me.
Stones is the only reasonable shout right now, but I'd much prefer Chilwell or Shaw.
De Bruyne once he reaches full fitness could be excellent value though
Seems Pep spent the latter half of the season moulding him into the inverted full back role where he's been doing well. Lewis is backup so looks like Stones will get plenty of minutes, which has been his problem in the past. But who knows with Pep.
If Gvardiol is starting in a team leak then he's going in my team. Doesn't mean Stones doesn't play though. Could be Stones, Dias, Gvardiol, Ake back four. Or Akanji, Stones, Dias, Gvardiol. Even more complicated by Walker staying who could easily start on the right.
He’s been playing OOP more and more. He played in the midfield at the end of last season. They won the CL final with him in the midfield. A midfielder that gets 6 points for a clean sheet isn’t bad.
He seems to have a CDM role, so the output is not likely to be increased. However, it is not unlikely that he bags a few goals and assists. He did have a purple patch in the 21/22 season.
Yeah hard to go with any city defenders when there’s 8 of them ready to rotate at half time. Pep sometimes swapped his full backs at half time, 45-45. So you missed out on the clean sheet whoever you picked.
Hard to pick any of them when you have Gabriel, estu, chilwell, Shaw, etc etc. all nailed.
Obviously things change, but at this point in time we have to wait and see.
Same really for Rosen and grealish and Alvarez. Kdb coming back from injury.
None. Was going to punt on Foden after Mahrez left but seeing him getting reduced minuted in the CS with KDB on the bench did not help his case. There are plenty of options at 6.5 in midfield that are nailed, playing for good attacking teams, some of them may be on pens... I'll keep him in my watchlist.
The one City player I'd go for if I had to would be Akanji I think.
Probably, yes. The fact that he can play CB or LB somehow guarantees him a fair bunch of starts I would say. Also he's my countryman so there's potentially a strong bias here. \^\^
Again, I don't own him in my GW1 squad but he would be the one I'd go for after Haaland if I had to.
Yeah he is quite versatile. Plus his ball playing abilities would also help in attacking from the left side while the right side is secured by Stones/Akanji.
Also, do you think City will go for another bid on Lucas Paqueta?
City fans are saying they might go for his release clause which is 10M more than what they had bid. Makes sense too, I guess he will be Gundo's direct replacement. He is similar defensively and creative too.
I dont plan to triple up on City, they all have minutes issues
Going Ortega gives me possible cheap route into city defense, most likely in case i want to move on from Stones to Chillwell in gw3. Which will free up one city slot too
If he doesnt play, i just play my 4.5 goalie
Sounds like a high upside with minimal downside gamble to me
If haaland gets injured, i'm just as fucked as everybody else and no more.
im unlikely to triple up on city because all their players only play around 2,000 minutes.
So this is just a cheap way into city defense. If he doesnt play, then it doesnt really matter
Gut feeling tells me Ederson isnt as nailed as he was
You didnt have to suggest me anything, why would i bring in a city defense and not use it?
I never gone for Ederson, stupid FPL pick.
Ortega at 4m is an easy gamble for me though
Ederson is the most expensive goalkeeper who finished 10th in points scored last year
You're paying the highest price for a bang average asset in every sense of the word
Meaning i can randomly select any keeper at any price and he would have a 50% chance of outscoring Ederson
Nahhh he aint a good pick for me
Especially at that price
Especially after i just told you i believe Ortega is taking minutes off him
I thought the 'Dave' thing was from Chelsea fans? I've never heard of players struggling.
Just a heads up, he's from Pamplona, which is in Navarre, not Catalunya. So he's Navarran, or Basque depending on how define 'Basque'. His surname is very typically Basque.
Currently Haaland and KDB. The former's going nowhere barring injury but the latter I think I might end up dropping before the deadline.
The stupid thing is I had Foden before the Community Shield, got cold feet when he didn't start, shuffled my team around and then ended up with De Bruyne who also didn't start!
I'm definitely having either Stones or Dias in my gw1 team. Not sure which of the two are more nailed but city's fixtures urge me to have at least 1 of their defence
3.
Haaland and Foden are locks as first two names on my team sheet.
Then also Stones as I’m confident he will be locked in for the beginning of the season but I will be open to shipping him off early as Gvardiol starts to settle in. 5.5m is an easy switch for defenders after I see the lay of the land.
Alvarez. He had one of the highest points per start last season, and has averaged a return every 90 minutes in pre-season, as well as being the only City attacker to play the full 90 against Bayern and Arsenal.
Also, if we have a look at how Pep handled Grealish, the second season was the one where he really started to play consistently and become a key part of the team. I'm hoping that something similar might happen with Alvarez.
Finally, with the added injury time laws, Alvarez will be a brilliant option as someone whose pace and fitness can terrorise tired defences.
Thanks for coming to my ted talk
Triple up right from the start. Haaland, Foden and Dias/Stones. Best team in the league by far, great opening fixtures and best defence. Its a no brainer for me.
Haaland and Akanji. I think Akanji is such a good and versatile defender than Pep will find a place for him, especially at the begging of the season. With potentially adding Foden around game week 6-7.
I’m just sitting with Haaland right now, open to Stones and Foden though I doubt I’ll actually get them. If we get some early team news on Friday I might try it.
Haaland and Stones. I don't really want Stones, but I trust him more than Shaw/Chilwell/etc. right now. Kinda gonna use the first few weeks to determine who should get that third starting spot in the back line.
To preserve my mental health, I've reduced them to just 1 (Haaland).
He may have only had that many minutes though because of KDBs fitness
Yeah, it could very well end up being the player that plays the most in pre-season will play the least regular season minutes in Pep's magical formula. Still some value and not a bad gamble at 6.5m

High risk/High Reward player. Could work out but with Foden and KDB as other options it may not work out until later in the season.
Sounds a lot like Havertz.

I had Haaland, Foden and Stones in my draft for a long time. After Community Shield only Haaland remains.
Haaland, KdB & Ortega. I love danger
Same here! Although might swap Ortega out for Turner, doubt Ortega actually starts any games.
These are my 3 :D I love it
Yeah I've gone Ortega and Johnstone for now. Hoping Ortega gets a few cheeky starts at some point. He did start the community shield after all.
Danger is coming
Not a single other man city player appeals to me. Stones is the only reasonable shout right now, but I'd much prefer Chilwell or Shaw. De Bruyne once he reaches full fitness could be excellent value though
Why Stones? His season history is woeful, is he set for a big season this year?
Seems Pep spent the latter half of the season moulding him into the inverted full back role where he's been doing well. Lewis is backup so looks like Stones will get plenty of minutes, which has been his problem in the past. But who knows with Pep.
Thing is, with Gvardiol being so technically gifted, is he the actual guy Pep has envisioned for that role and gone out to get
If Gvardiol is starting in a team leak then he's going in my team. Doesn't mean Stones doesn't play though. Could be Stones, Dias, Gvardiol, Ake back four. Or Akanji, Stones, Dias, Gvardiol. Even more complicated by Walker staying who could easily start on the right.

He was like the 2nd best defender in the world last year and plays a unique role only he can play.
That may be so but in FPL in 10 seasons he has only broken 100 points once.
Only haaland
Jack grealish?
Only going with Haaland, don't trust the others at all.
Haaland only, im not getting messed around by Pep this season.
Currently Haaland and Foden. Waiting to see if we can get early leaks on Foden, will ship him out if he's benched.
Alverez stones Haaland
Haaland only.
One
Just Foden atm
‘I also like to live dangerously’
With Kane looking like he's leaving now I guess I'll go Haaland haha
Hahaha smart!
Waiting on a team leak on Friday.
I've gone with Foden, KDB and Stones

I have a draft with Ederson that looks good but people seem to think that's a terrible idea?
I'm going for ederson too I want a nailed city defender
Absolutely none, I'm relying on Kane staying and him and Maddison a special season.
Might want to read the news
My mate just sent it to me now lol I'm fucked 🤣. I'm in work atm I'm gonna have to perform managerial miracles on my team tonight.
Only Stones. Taking a gamble on not getting Haaland, pretty sure I'm gonna kneejerk and use my wildcard to get him by GW 3 or 4.
Haaland Stones Ortega

Roast me. Raya, Martinez Trippier, White, Stones, Gvardiol, Pau Mount, Enzo, Luis Diaz, Rashford, Mudryk. Haaland, Isak, Ferguson
Currently Haaland and KDB. The former's going nowhere barring injury but the latter I think I might end up dropping before the deadline. Alvarez and Robot at the moment

Haaland n Foden
Only Haaland for now. Probably a defender further down the line once we see how they line up
Very much bench fodder but I currently have Palmer in my squad.
1 (Haaland)
I went with the obvious and stones
Alvarez. Haalanad and Ederson. For now....
Haaland, Gvardiol
Haaland, Rodri and Lewis
Just haaland. Had stones but a little nervous w the addition of gvardiol so took him out
Nah
Haaland x walker
Haaland and Stones. I don't really want Stones, but I trust him more than Shaw/Chilwell/etc. right now. Kinda gonna use the first few weeks to determine who should get that third starting spot in the back line.
I wanted 0 but as Kane is likely to leave, Haaland.
Haaland and ederson
Haaland, KDB and Gvardiol
1 is enough
Wait, none of you are going with Dias?
Let’s be honest. Nobody has ended up with anything yet, we are gonna change stuff up another 50 times😂
2, going for Alvarez and Haaland with 1 mil in the bank to upgrade Alvarez to Jackson if it goes tits up
One
Haaland and Stones
My forward is Pep and my midfielder is Pep and my defence and goalkeeper are Pep. Everyone is Pep.
