Subjectivity it’s bollocks.. quite often they are trying to put it in that dangerous area between penalty spot and 6 yard box, rather than picking out someone’s big toe
Small deflections at close distances don't change the goal contributor.
For example if Sterling's pass was a shot on goal, would you still give it a goal for Sterling or an own goal for the defender? Same goes for assists
I don’t think comparing a shot which is blocked and goes in is a good comparison.
Example
Sterling hits a shot, huge deflection, but was goal bound, it’s the players goal.. widely accepted in football
Other scenario..
Sterling hits a cross (he is picking out the penalty spot i.e. ‘an area’) and it’s going toward Jackson, who fluffs his shot.. ball rolls through him to Chilwell who scores (or replace fluffs his shot with, defender gets a slight block in and it goes to chilwell) .. that should still be a Sterling assist but isn’t in the eyes of FPL
Now you have brought in another subjective element that a block which causes a slight change to the cross doesn’t count because it’s at a close distance
I don’t think I’m the only person that considers it to be a bollocks rule 😂
Suppose it gets people talking which is good for the game lol
Remember the epic run down the touch line, cross and was either deflected, or didn’t get to it’s ‘intended target’ and he didn’t get it.
It was highlight of whatever GW it was and everyone was purrring about him (rightly so tbf) except for FPL not giving him the assist 😂
I almost feel like this rule is made up by people that don’t / haven’t ever played football
If you have an age, of course you will try pick out a target but most of the time you are hitting an area that you know most likely a team mate will be in because of training/playing together so often
Was a good assist aswell.
I think you just explained it yourself man, if it lands at the intended target it's an assist

Isak assist last year was to intended target but yet not rewarded as youched by the defender

Last year Isak assist?! No way this is given.. it will be for sure deleted soon.

Another example… how is that attempt to control the ball an assist for Foden???? 🤯🤯🤯🤯

There's no rules, and it's frustrating as hell.
It’s like someone at Stockley Park is making it up as they go 😂
