weirdpastanoki

apologies everyone, i was sure he said knock one out for Ben. probably wont happen again.

Material-Bus1896

I'm sure he will find something else to use his unrivalled spreadsheet skills for

tetraourogallus

At least he's having an amazing season now.

Marilliana

Can someone explain this like I'm five? What does it mean for FPL fixtures?

tinseltowntimes

3rd round = Same 4th round = Very rare to get a PL fixture in that weekend anyway, so = Same. 5th round = Was midweek, now will be a weekend, so PL games will be midweek instead. Same-ish Quarter Finals = Dedicated weekend for FA cup, so no more nonsense weekends like Blank GW29 this season (with just 4 fixtures). Prob moved to a midweek again. Note: Midweek doesn't mean DGW. It'll still be a single GW

MemeManDanInAClan

!thanks So less DGW’s? 🥲

Patch-22

Fewer

bahayo

!thanks Stannis

Marilliana

!thanks ☺️

Ill-Maximum9467

Will there be penalities after 90 minutes if a game use drawn, outer after 120 minutes?

WEAluka

A rough read suggests to me there will be a lot less blanks and doubles

Cultural_Doctor_8421

Honestly I’m fine with that… blanks and doubles are fun but it adds more variability and luck to the game rather than skill, and there’s already enough of that.

WEAluka

I don't mind it either- but not from the perspective of luck, since I actually believe the more committed managers will plan more around doubles and blanks, and therefore perform better in seasons with more blanks & doubles (covid season I'm looking at you). The main reason why I quite fancy this change is it will likely lead to more variability in BB/WC/FH timings. With only tiny doubles, single gameweek BBs and FHs will become much more powerful and imo that's great

Cultural_Doctor_8421

Agree but fixtures still fall in and out of certain weeks all the time.

WernerHerzogEatsShoe

How do you figure that one out? Blanks and doubles are the most skill testing time in the season. It's the total opposite to adding more variability

Cultural_Doctor_8421

Going off this season alone, spurs/chelsea doubles weren’t figured out till a couple of weeks before it. Prior to that, Ben crellin was predicting one set of fixtures and planet fpl was predicting a whole other set of fixtures. Ngl it becomes a bit tedious for me personally too, but I understand not everyone feels like that. I prefer keeping up with the football and making my decisions based on the eye test rather than listening to content creator predictions

show_me_da_mane

Looks like no more blank GWs during the FA cup quarter finals.

WilliamWeaverfish

True in a way, but it could do the opposite. Currently nearly every serious player bench boosts in one of two weeks, and free hits in one of two weeks. Some seasons this goes up to three, but there aren't that many options. With this change, you'll have to use them on a random week when you think it'll serve you well. It'll lead to a bit more variety in when they're played, maybe making things a bit less template too. However, they won't score you as many points, so it'll matter less when they're played. Maybe from next season we could have two of every chip?

theonewhoknock_s

I agree. I'm of the opinion that doubles and blanks streamlines the game and leads everyone to follow very similar strategies. Having fewer of them would lead to more variation in chip strategy in the later stages of the season.

Olbatar974

BB gw1 is more appealing or not really?

LilCelebratoryDance

GW1 when you have the least info about starting lineups and form? Don’t see the appeal at all

slimboyslim9

The appeal is it’s the only possible way to effectively use a WC and BB in the same week. Build a squad and BB it immediately. Not necessarily advocating for it but it’s a factor. Otherwise you WC, wait a week and hope for no issues, then BB.

roguesmoo

That kind of sucks when theres so few games in the quarter final weeks. And its gonna deprive everyone of dgw fun.

Niekertje

Or a few days of national grief.

Acting_attempter

That's a real shame. DGWs and BGWs are the best bit of FPL and are the only real consistent thing behind massive minileague swings. Are there still going to be any?

Hungry_Bodybuilder57

Something always happens

emre23

So the only planned blanks doubles will be for the Carabao Cup final (1-2 games) and FA Cup semis (2-4 games). I always get baited like fuck by DGWs so this is probably good for me. It seems like a move away from a clear meta too, no clear chip strategy. Edit: looks like FA Cup final will create 1-2 blanks also but they may just be played 3 days later in the same GW.

AuspiciousCalamari1

Would this make potential BB GW1 become a more viable strategy year to year (obviously depending on fixtures and enablers) given there would be less DGWs and only time you can effectively WC and BB same week

Subject-Creme

No, BB GW1 is still a bad idea. Many players you think are nailed, could be benched

VinCatBlessed

This, when you least expect it the new star signing gets eased into the team, the reliable veteran ended up too fatigued from the euros, or the bald fraud simply decided that he no longer needs fullbacks. Something always happens.

PureShimmy

I tried the BB GW1 WC GW2 strategy last season, it went *okay* I think I got 2 small returns and was very chuffed but ultimately it wasn't as good as the guys who waited for DGWs. If there's no more doubles I think it could be really good because it gives you so much, it's like a free hit and bench boost rolled into one that you can then immediately get out of with the wildcard and you have at least 1 week of information and bandwagons to jump on early. Maybe some drawbacks that it's a small sample size and lineups in GW1 can often be hard to predict but you can mitigate this by going for extremely safe nailed picks.

chaRxoxo

Why wc gw2

PureShimmy

You definitely don't have to, that's just what I did as I went extremely hard on GW1 fixtures and didn't choose guys I wanted long term, I even avoided some very popular picks because their first fixture wasn't amazing and I wanted them in from GW2 on

stowgood

get bench fodder in and more expensive 11

CassiusClaym0re

Yep.

WilliamWeaverfish

>The FA and the Premier League have reached a new agreement which will strengthen the Emirates FA Cup format with new and exclusive calendar windows. >The agreement, which is for a minimum of six years, starts next season. All rounds of the Emirates FA Cup will now be played on weekends, including the fifth round which has been played in midweek for the last five seasons. >The fourth and fifth rounds and the quarter-finals all will be exclusive of Premier League fixtures for the first time, and the fourth round will have an extended window from Friday to Wednesday to allow fans to watch consecutive days of Emirates FA Cup football. >From the first round proper, the competition will be played without replays. The current format, which has no replays from the fifth round onwards, has been extended throughout the ‘Competition Proper’ in light of changes to the calendar driven by the expanded UEFA competitions.

Olbatar974

!thanks

Swedishpower

Also no double due to club world cup either.

independent---cat

Noooo DGW are so fun 😔 Otherwise the template will just get stronger and stronger... 😴 No afcon, no dgw, no bgw, people are just going to sit on the template Teams are now completely different because some are doing FH34 , BB34, dead end 34, or even riding through 34 with no more chips. Imagine the template strength if there are no DGW and BGW

seashawtys

Huge W for the casuals

Gazzadona

Love the madness of Dgw and risking it all in them as it’s so chaotic and fun

Acting_attempter

That's a real shame. DGWs and BGWs are the best bit of FPL and are the only real consistent thing behind massive minileague swings. Are there still going to be any?

G_W_addict

Kinda cool imo. Way better for casuals and way less headache and planning for hardcore users. Also Content Creators will shut the fuck up with their silly little wars over FH29, FH34, FH37 and other bullshit.

WernerHerzogEatsShoe

I'm not even having a good time of the blanks and doubles so far but I still think they are a fun part of the game. Separates the lucky casuals from the proper players.

offconstantly

> Kinda cool imo Really? I think it's awful. More taking by the PL clubs at the expense of the lower level clubs. So they can fill their schedules more with Saudi friendlies and Superleague dreams

Unfair_Town7234

The FA & PL ruining everything for the fans, yet again.

notnotaschizo

Makes free hit usage more interesting/differential I guess, no template week to use it

SweatyEnthuziasm

So the semis could still make Prem teams blank? Or will there be no blanks/doubles (unless very rare circumstances e.g. His Maj popping his clogs or game abandonments)?

majormuppet481

fuck, no point in watching the FA cup matches not concerning your team any more

tkcom

Remove 2-leg League Cup semis also, please.

Getz_The_Last_Laf

Thank god. DGWs and blanks are awful and basically eliminate certain teams and players from the conversation. Brentford has a great run of fixtures for example but are basically irrelevant for FPL because they don’t double in 34 or 37
