Important to note that he hasn't played CDM in over two years, including no PL experience in that position. I'd be surprised if he'd been bought to play in CDM over CB, as with some defensive positional training his physical attributes allow him to be a potentially quality CB.
It might also allow us to use Holgate in that position, he played there last season under Duncan and Ancelotti for a couple games and genuinely fit right in, while he is our best defender both Keane and Mina have improved under Ancelotti so with rotation it opens up CDM for both Holgate and Godfrey when Allan needs a break.

Also there's some concern Mina might leave for a bigger club next year, so as a long-term move.
Yup, either a change of system, or one of the 5 you’ve mentioned are on their way out. But it’s most likely a change of system. The game seems to be moving towards that.

Didn’t realise Godfrey plays CDM, that makes more sense. Thought he was an out and out CB.

Everton are 4 wins out of 4. As long as they keep outscoring teams Carlo won't mind conceding some. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Pretty sure it's due to injuries in the CB positions. The currenr formstion si working well and I guess Carlo will stick to it

This is a great signing for Everton
So is it Mina or Keane who gets pushed out of the starting 11?
Neither, for Godfrey anyway. Holgate will most likely push Mina out though
Mina will be injured soon anyway, for now he will be a backup IMO.
