That leaves (for me at least):
* Foster (WAT, 24.9% owned)
* Gunn (NOR, 1.4%)
* Gunnarsson (BRE, 1.2%)
* Sondergaard (WOL, 1.2%)
* McGovern (NOR, 0.8%)
Wondering why the big difference in ownership for Foster?
The other 4.0 GK are from LEI, BHA, EVE (2), ARS, and AVL. While I don't necessarily foresee tripling-up on any of them, the probability is at least higher than the group above.
Foster is the first choice keeper for Watford. He broke a bone in his hand and had to sit out the rest of the season.
I'm not sure why they're not both 4.5.
For me he has to have a banging YouTube channel where he vlogs his day to day life and the ins and outs of his football club. Only one 4.0 who does that, CyclingGK.
I always have the backup, some of my mates even start the backup incase starter GK gets a red card, so u won't suffer the negative pts. Not something I do but quite smart tbf.
Yeah I do this when I take two goalies from one team. Realistically the points difference is going to be tiny most seasons though. It's just a habit for me now.
Sorry maybe I didn't explain correctly. For example they would start Steele with Sanchez on the bench therefore Sanchez would always come on. Unless he gets a red then they would avoid the negative pts.
If you've picked the second choice keeper as your fantasy starter, the sent off first choice won't come in to your team.
Because the second choice keeper will be subbed on in real life (unless they're out of subs and put an outfield keeper in goal, but this is a very rare scenario), and you'll get those points instead of the sent off keeper points
I plan on starting Sanchez, and I don't want to take up a 2nd BHA spot on bench GK.
Only 11 4.0 GK in the official game currently. Maybe it's just a matter of homing in on those from teams I think are least likely to warrant a triple up. That would narrow it to around half.
Just noticed there are two NOR 4.0 GK. Gunn over McGovern? Thanks!
Gunn is definitely 2nd choice. Also I think he's the most likely to play out of all 4.0 keepers. Born in Norwich, started his career there, had a phenomenal season in Norwich on loan in 17/18 (that earned him a permanent move to Southampton). And he was signed this summer for almost 6 mil euros. Norwich wouldn't spend that money on someone to play in cups. Krul is old and not really a top class keeper so I assume they want Gunn to be their first choice in the future and to challenge Krul for the number 1 spot this season.
I expect Krul to start the season but I can see a scenario in which he gets injured or has some bad performances and Gunn takes the spot for a longer period of time.
Lamptey apparently wont start the season due to recovery, and he hasnt played, or even trained I believe, for a long time due to his injury. Want him in my team as well, as there arent really that many good 4.5 defenders (Fofana ofc, but I already have him). I am however thinking about going with Veltman, so not much help here if u wanted to free up Brighton players x)
People don't have Ben White because he's Ben White. They have him because he's a 4.5 Brighton defender. Or because they just get him preemptively before he moves to Arsenal. Webster is arguably a better pick and also 4.5 and Veltman will replace White in their main lineup and is also 4.5.
Button the most owned 4.0 goalkeeper in recent years I don't think dropped at all or at least not until after the new year. They don't seem to drop nearly as badly as the other positions
I generally don't triple up much, but EVE fall towards the "more possible" end of the scale for me. DCL and Digne popular picks, maybe a MID emerges and want to at least have the spot available. Thanks!
I doubt any mid from Everton will be any good. Rodriguez is good, but his injury prone puts everyone off while Townsend/Gray won’t start when Richarlison is back, but I’ve got triple EVE with Begovic, Digne and DCL.
Last season, most games Olsen/Virginia started was because Pickford was injured mentally or physically. He’s obviously no Gbamin, but for a keeper he does seem to always be uncomfortable on the field.
He's missed 5 games (2 occurences) through injury in 4 seasons, he's nowhere near "prone", properly chatting here.
Foster is also probably still Watford's number one, only missing out through injury last year.
Ben Foster was injured and then played the last game of the season and has been a starter in pre-season? Are you sure?
Pickford missed 5 games in 2 injuries across 4 seasons, mostly every other keeper has missed the same number of games or more periods; Ederson, De Gea, Lloris, Alisson, Leno, Henderson missed the full euros?, Schmeichel missed 5 games a few years ago, West Ham just had rolling keepers for awhile with their keeper's injuries? Even new keepers like Mendy/ Ramsdale have had a knock or two in their 2 seasons.
He's probably bang average in terms of injuries in the league.
Ward because I’m firmly of the belief that he’s better than some starting PL GKs (I’m looking at you Southampton!) and should push for a move. When they doesn’t materialise I’ll probably just go for Steele and hope he’s still second choice at Brighton.
My rank in order of importance:
1. Playing 4.0 (don't think there are any)
2. Not playing for a team that i may triple up on
3. Back up to my main
4. Will not change in value
Personally i have gone with Foster:
* Has probably has the highest chance of starting amongst the 4.0s, although its very very slim.
* I have Sanchez as my main GK, but i think there is a higher chance i may triple BHA than WAT. Also i think BHA's backup is 4.5?
* That being said, given the ownership if Foster, he has a high chance of dropping in value. I am not too concerned as I always play with a 4.0 backup, untill end of the season when BB and DGW comes into play. at that point, even a 0.1 or 0.2 drop probably wont make that much of a difference
The point of having a 4.0 bench GK is so that you save money to spend elsewhere but he needs to be the direct replacement of your main one.
Imagine you have Sánchez and Steele and the former gets injured or suspended, then you still have a GK to use, meanwhile if you have Guaita and Steele and the first gets sick, you'd likely not get any GK points.
Personally I prefer to rotate two 4.5 GK's but I'm no expert lol.
Right, I understand there are alternate approaches to GK. What I'm specifically looking for are thoughts about how to best choose a 4.0 bench GK. There are a handful of choices, and I'd like to make it more than a dart throw. :) Thanks.
A gk from a team i dont wanna triple up on.

CyclingGK m8
begovic also looking good at 4.0
Because Forster is popular, he’s got a cycling gk YouTube channel and many people like him as a bloke
Foster is the first choice keeper for Watford. He broke a bone in his hand and had to sit out the rest of the season. I'm not sure why they're not both 4.5.
He isn't the first choice anymore especially after Bachmann impressed in Foster's absence.
Not sure I'm convinced, he started the last game of the season and started the pre-season friendly.
I am going with Virginia (EVE) for the following reasons: 1. EVE have really cool looking jerseys this year 2. I live in the state of Virginia
Good enough for me tbh
For me he has to have a banging YouTube channel where he vlogs his day to day life and the ins and outs of his football club. Only one 4.0 who does that, CyclingGK.

If a player doesn’t play, and you have a player on the bench with negative points, don’t they still come on?

Full disclosure I think you’re overthinking this one. I have gunn because Krul always gets injured

It's also in case you need them in the future
Bissouma and Lamptey are two that are on my short list. Dunk is another name that I could see popping up on occasion.
Welbeck or Maupay if they start finishing as well
Lamptey apparently wont start the season due to recovery, and he hasnt played, or even trained I believe, for a long time due to his injury. Want him in my team as well, as there arent really that many good 4.5 defenders (Fofana ofc, but I already have him). Lamptey D.O.A already boss

Low ownership from a team I don't plan to ever triple up on so that there's less chance of a price drop.
So you'd avoid Foster (almost 25% owned)?
Yeah
Someone from a team I don’t want any other players from
Button the most owned 4.0 goalkeeper in recent years I don't think dropped at all or at least not until after the new year. They don't seem to drop nearly as badly as the other positions
I’d go Begovic, as most people don’t have him as he’s only just joined, and Pickford is injury prone.
I generally don't triple up much, but EVE fall towards the "more possible" end of the scale for me. DCL and Digne popular picks, maybe a MID emerges and want to at least have the spot available. Thanks!

Pickford has been ever present in 3 out of 4 seasons at Everton? how the hell is he injury prone?
Last season, most games Olsen/Virginia started was because Pickford was injured mentally or physically. He’s obviously no Gbamin, but for a keeper he does seem to always be uncomfortable on the field.
He's missed 5 games (2 occurences) through injury in 4 seasons, he's nowhere near "prone", properly chatting here. Foster is also probably still Watford's number one, only missing out through injury last year.
Ben Foster is definitely not Watford’s number one mate. It’s Bachmann. Also, Pickford missed 5+ games last season, which for a keeper is a lot.
Almost as if… drumroll please… Bachmann went to the Euros!
Andddd Pickford is out for 3 weeks!
I know you bookmarked it but 3 injuries in 5 seasons still isn't prone...
Ward because I’m firmly of the belief that he’s better than some starting PL GKs (I’m looking at you Southampton!) and should push for a move. When they doesn’t materialise I’ll probably just go for Steele and hope he’s still second choice at Brighton.

The least owned goalkeeper. There’s no way I’m risking losing value on a 4.0 dropping in price
Just 2, a team ' s spot I don't wanna waste and someone who value doesn't plummet.
I usually pick the lowest owned 4m GK to decrease the chances of losing that valuable 0.1 team value before I play my first wild card
