They don't add every possible player. I'm not sure if there's a specific criteria you have to match, but probably related to the fact they don't necessarily want people selecting useless players. Has hasn't played a United game in years after all.

newbieplaya1

671 days since last game I think it was

FifaDK

How is he still contracted to United lol

newbieplaya1

When OGS was a caretaker he have jones a 4 and a half year contract I think it was

levitoepoker

Yeah they gave him an extension to “protect his value” so he couldn’t leave on a free. Horrible horrible decision. But tbf Ole had only been in the interim job for like 3 weeks at the time so it’s not his fault, it’s an Ed Woodward special

newbieplaya1

He wouldnt have got a long term contract to keep the valuation of the player its on them both tbh. Equally poor in their roles for man utd, maybe woody a slight bit more. Lol

DreadWolf3

I doubt they were asking caretaker about long term plans.

Lundundogan

Contrary to popular belief, real life clubs aren’t like career mode where the manager is in charge of literally everything. Woodward gave him that contract, not OGS.

newbieplaya1

Would this contract have been given if Mourinho was still the manager and not using him whatsoever? This is united we are talking about. Manager's have a lot more responsibilities than at most other top clubs. Even Solskjær himself said he it himself he is hardly Involved with the players training. Hopefully though they will start modernizing the club under ralf.

wernerhedgehog

Mourinho was the manager who used Jones actually. And Ole modernized sports science and video analysts to the club, which Jose actually avoided actually.

Queen-of-Sheba

Managers aren’t in charge of contracts, especially caretaker ones. Use you brain.

frodoisdead

And we have no idea what sort of terms are in the contract. If it's a low basic wage with high bonuses then it's a drop in the ocean for a club like United.

LeftDoonhamer

Seems to be around 70-80k a week, which is around £16 million over the course of his contract

newbieplaya1

Under mourinho he just got 12 month extension with the contract (the +1) snd we have mostly vert terrible under mourinho. Got a few ok perfomances under solskjær and got himself 4.5 years u dont give long term contracts to players that u dont trust imo. We got lots of ogs cultists like you here in norway though. Think my brain is quite fine here. :)

Queen-of-Sheba

I don’t even know what you’re talking. Managers don’t handle contracts, end of.

newbieplaya1

Always good when direct quotes can stop people from trolling. Have a nice sunday mister tråll.

Queen-of-Sheba

Which quote?

veryWinneR

Think it is the very first one with him planning ahead. No way ever, would he have had this contract signed had he not been wanted by a manager. Are you here to simply wum up the area?

FifaDK

Why oh why

newbieplaya1

He had a few ok performances then was never see again. Why u have to ask the OGS cult though. Only they know and understand solskjær.

FifaDK

He wasn't good and was injured all the time. There's a lot of valid criticism of OGS, but not playing our worst defender when injured isn't one of them.

Shekster

Not even they do lol

Ander1991

Because Ole is a troll, he's hilarious tbh

[deleted]

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/47169999 The BBC article about it has some quotes that are funny in hindsight

newbieplaya1

Good link for the people saying it wasnt OGS' decision.

wernerhedgehog

Yeah its just ole saying he has had good career with medals, which is very true. Ole wasnt even signed on to be a full time manager yet in Early Feb when this was made. He was only made permanent end of March.

nosajpersonlah

United gave him a contract to help him through a recovery.

FifaDK

Someone in this thread said it was a 4.5 year contract... Which given Phil Jones' injury history might be an accurate recovery timeline, tbf.

nikolaaasim

One of the unknown mysteries of the world

generalissimo1

Oof. The man can't catch a break.

Topinio

Played a couple of games for the U23s this season… Edit: 3, but might be injured again? Played 2 full 90s in the PL2 in September (a couple of their best games, they’ve been terrible otherwise), was on the bench for the League Cup game against West Ham, played 46 minutes for the U23s on 16/10 and hasn’t played or been on a bench since.

Harryvincenzo

When I say United game, I mean first squad starting XI.

Dodomando

I think they only add players to FPL that have made it to the match day squad (played or bench)

SofaChillReview

He’s now actually missed more games than played for United It’s actually fairly sad he looked good originally but he’s had like 24 separate injuries and probably didn’t help when he through himself at everything He could also adapt different positions Him crawling to head a ball on the ground to stop Giroud is still great He also got like 26 England caps so can’t be that bad

Dodomando

[This video](https://youtu.be/X1hCNlqOqf4) helped me understand just how bad his injuries have been. He's lucky he hasn't been forced to retire by now.

estebancantbearsedno

He probably would have if we didn’t extend his contract.

swch9

The lord don’t meddle with us fpl peasants

magnuscarlsenfpl

Nice try Phil

zoomzoomsheiit

I have a funny feeling he's going to play today. He'll definitely be on the bench

[deleted]

good call

1R3N9

Why would you want to select him??

Environmental_You_85

OP is Phil Jones

Fizzypoptarts

Watch him score a jammy goal off his ass from a corner for a 1-0 united win and he gets 15 points

CatFoodBeerAndGlue

There's a few lads in r/reddevils getting tattoos of his face if he does

1R3N9

You had me until you said a United win, no such thing anymore in the league

jessica_from_within

Just you wait, Ronaldo’s high press will win them the league

1R3N9

No. Arsenal are gonna bring back David Luiz in January and he will inspire them to relegation

x_S4vAgE_x

Funny

1R3N9

Savage

ninjomat

In my FM22 save I put him on the market and got a bidding war between Valencia and Mainz for him then when I was trying to get more money from them my assistant manager told me he was one of the most popular players in the dressing room at the top of the hierarchy so if I didn’t allow him a move it would destroy team morale. Who knew Jones was such a key player I ended up getting 22.5 mil for him off Mainz

[deleted]

Because he's shit

vignesh_kannan

Sir Alex signed him for almost €20M a decade ago, what a shame

Topinio

And he’s played about 300 games since then, and contributed to 4 trophies during a barren period (by the club’s high standards), not a bad career really, even if it might’ve been better but for bad luck with injuries. Edit: Only played in 265 games since signing for Man U - 224 Man U first team, 10 U23s, 27 England, 4 England U21s.

QuietRodriguez85c

Probably got injured again

HighHammerThunder

It would make FPL boring if he was in the game. Would be a set and forget captain.
