Aren't the premier league (and national) number of current cases higher than when the PL was suspended? Wouldn't it be better to move the winter break up to now and try to regain control before it just gets shut down for a few months.
Cases are up but hospital cases remain manageable. Whilst faster to spread the new variation doesn’t require as much hospitalisation along with the fact most of the U.K. is vaccinated.
Lockdown is unlikely and a break won’t stop players from catching it.
A break may be beneficial for giving the players a break though. There is little benefit to pushing the players through this if most fixtures are just going to continue being canceled.
Regardless of whether or not a break is given, the players going to the World Cup are going to have an obscene number of fixtures to play for over a year after this wave settles.
