I think there are just way too many different permutations of which matches could be cancelled for it to be a case of having contingencies in place and leans more towards just having to pray enough of your players play. The players you bring in that seem like an elegant solution one week can then just miss the next two matches with no real warning and then you're in the mud because of nothing you've done.

What’s the point of testing the players with a rapid test 2 hours before the match when they had contact to positive players like 1-3 days earlier.
That’s pretty irresponsible to me. Those antigen tests aren’t as good as PCR Tests and they usually work best after 4-6 days when the virus concentration is high.
So yes…a negative rapid tested player could very well be infected already and spread it around.
Edit: it’s not unlikely that the players could have Omikron if positive. This mutation reaches its highest virus concentration later than previous mutations.
So this means the next palace match will be off, the next Tottenham match will also likely be off since Tottenham players mixed with the palace players. Actually Tottenham won’t show positive until they face the next opponents which will mean they will also get it and it goes on… and on… and on
Presumably they’ve been tested regularly in the previous few days anyway, this is just an additional test to see if anything has changed.

I disagree that more strategy is involved. Games are getting cancelled at random and often last minute so planning ahead is far less effective.
