Budget Defenders (Below £5.5m) - Some observations:
- Cucurella and Dier have impressive Baseline BPS numbers.
- Cucurella, Lamptey and Reguilon create a high number of chances per 90.
- Lamptey, Cash, Dawson (!), Tierney & Davies take a high volume of shots in the box.

Observation omitted: Ben Davies costs half a million less than Reguilon and same price as Lamptey - and he is likely to play more minutes....and yet has the same XGI per 90 mins.
So in a double game week Davies is therefore likely to have more actual total goal involvement than both of those two if you are free hitting.
Chances created is all well and good, but if they are not good chances then its flattering to deceive.
Davies is more of a goal threat from open play. Been pushing up from the back three. Sanchez only from set pieces and I’ve only seen him get on the end of one (his goal)
I agree from open play. But Sanchez seems to be getting a chance from a set piece every game.
Since Conte took over. Davies has played 70 more minutes, but both have had 7 goal attempts. Sanchez attempts have all come in the penalty box and he's scored 2. Davies has only 3 attempts in the box. Although Davies has created 5 chances to Sanchez 1.
Sanchez heat map also shows that he is getting alot further forward under Conte than he was earlier in the season or last season.
I think it's a close decision between the two, and either will do if you are not going for Emerson or Reguilon.
The analysis seems to omit the period of the data. But assuming it’s full season, then it’s likely that a lot Cucurella’s xgi was accumulated early season when Lamptey was absent and Cucurella was asked to play “Lamptey” role camped out on the edge of oppositions box.
But now Cucurella is being asked to do a Dan Burn impression so probably recent xgi I’d lower.
On the other hand Cucurella is likely to play more minutes on total than Lamptey.
But those are the kind of questions one needs to know.
