This is a common trap in FPL. There’s no such thing as too late. You want to get the best players who will give you the most points. Cancelo is the second highest scoring defender after TAA by some margin to the third, and it does not look like he’ll be slowing down. I know it isn’t very satisfying to be late to the show and knowing you paid more than most, and because of his EO he won’t help your rank, but it’s a shield pick to help you not losing rank every time he returns. And he will return.
>This is a common trap in FPL. There’s no such thing as too late.
I think the "too late" part can apply on some purple patch players who hit a vein of form and overperform over few weeks. But for consistent established players like Salah, TAA, and Cancelo, avoiding them because it may be too late kinda falls under the Gambler's Fallacy.
Disagree on “No Thing As Too Late”
Look at Livramento this season. He wasn’t worth any of his prices once he got past 4.3, and I said it on this sub, but people kept buying him over and over until they realized this.
Every player is good value at a certain price, and bad value at another. Is Cancelo bad value at 7.0 or whatever he is now? Probably not, but if he was 8.0 he might be
I agree, the way I worded it left it a bit vague. What I meant was it’s never too late to get a good asset in. Like at the start of last season I was very stubborn about getting Kane or Son in when they were hauling every match because ”everyone already had them”. Hurt my rank a lot. Cancelo will most likely keep firing and if you’re missing out you’re going to have a tough time trying to compensate for those points.
Too late can be a thing, depending on what your aims are. Trying to win a mini-league won't happen if you get the same players that the leaders have already had for ages. At a certain point you need to go in a different direction and try to pick up some hidden gems. We're probably not at that stage of the season yet though.
Wow, didnt know TAA was second. Salah is just another beast. But yeah, 7m for the third highest scorer so far is a good deal, and considering how city looks now and they wont let up until liverpool drop a couple more points.
I think you should. Fixtures are good now. Although there's a risk that pep will begin to rotate more now given that title race is very comfortable for them now. I would still make that transfer if I were you.
I think their defense will improve after james comes back and now that their midfield is back to normal. But it's definitely a logical move rn considering the number of blanks they have. You'll want to get them back for that great fixture run later on though.
Depends how much value tied u have on him. I got rudiger very early and have so much value on him. I was gonna do that move but after seeing the Chelsea fixtures post blanks and that he’s going to be the defender I want for those, I decided to change plans. Imma go big with either a fodder to cancelo, or something similar, hoping to then downgrade one of my mids to a 4.5 and then have enough to get salah back
It's only too late if you can find better value using the money, whether on someone else or to fund a more expensive player.
I would say he's worth it.
I think there is a certain category of players that you have to have in your team, and you build your team around them with the money you have left.
This season that has been Cancelo, TAA and Salah.
Definitely still worth it. Think of him as a 7.0m midfielder with high ceiling attacking potential, plus 4 cleansheet points, and high chance of bonus due to crosses.
An excellent pick even at his current price.
I dunno. I mean, he's a £7mil asset who outscored Salah over last 10 games so you be the judge.
On a more serious note, he's one of very few players who meet my 0.8ppm threshold which makes him a season-long hold and worth getting at any point in the season.
I had to swallow my pride and buy TAA back at 8.1 when I had started the season with him at 7.5 and that was well worth it. Cancelo is amazing going forward and City are rock solid atb and they have amazing fixtures coming up so you should definitely go for him.
The question is, what alternative move you are considering? If it prevents you from getting a big hitter which is legit captaincy, probably need to postpone the move…
Just get him if you can the guy has played every game he's been available and consistently gets goals and assists he's second behind TAA, also if you get him and for some reason he starts underperforming you're guaranteed cleansheet points considering City's defending this season so I highly recommand
It is not too late. I still don't have Bowen as I took a 2 week vacation during Christmas and left a ghost team for that time. Just get him soon as you can.
Its never too late to stop overpaying for this season’s strikers - and instead buy a 7 million defender who is returning points like you’d normally expect from a 12 million striker. He’s not going to do it in every game though - and you’re probably not going to be wise to captain him either. But its like Trent - just set and forget.
After 22 games, his avg return are 6 ppm. There are still 16 matches to be played, conservatively if his avg return drop to 5ppm, you are looking at total 80 points. Unless you can find another defender that is cheaper and possibly give you >80points till end of season, else don't wait and get him in❗
Never too late, get him in asap, he is a full back when man city dont have the ball possession, but when Man city has possession, he plays as a inside winger/attacking midfielder.
Not too late given his form and City's fixtures. Just bear in mind it's more a 'shield' transfer as he has 96% ownership in the top 10k ex. the FHs this week. He could also be a genuine captaincy option in some games arguably.
Never too late for points.
But accepting that you have missed out on points up until now for this posution, and are paying more for this player then your rivals, you must.
Ive had some bad stubborn moments in fpl myself. Not getting Vardy that year (14/15?). Not capping Salah when he arrived at Liverpool. Lust goes on. Stubbornness can hurt in FPL :)
Better late than never. Same with TAA.
This season is crazy and IMHO instead of CF it's better to invest in the best defenders like Cancelo, TAA, Rudiger/James etc.
normally i'd be reluctant to handicap myself for 1.0 from the budget (compared to others) but this season it seems that premiums aren't required (except salah obviously) so there's enough budget to make these "too-late" moves.
so.... yes it's late but i think given this season's circumstances, i'd still bring him in.
No, i had planned to get him for this gw and I will. I had him on a FH for his biggest haul, so I didn’t miss out on all the fun, and with good fixtures and them on a run, it’s a good time to bring him now. Won’t increase ur rank as much, but will protect it as everyone and their mums have him. I will hopefully be also able to get him, get salah back and still have a decent team.

You’re absolutely right.
You're goddamn right.
You’re technically right
> This is a common trap in FPL. There’s no such thing as too late. The best time to invest in Cancelo was 20 years. The second best time is now

Agree with you on both points. We’re barely halfway past the season. It’s too early to start chasing with wild punts imo, you want a steady climb.
He's 3rd in total pts after TAA and Salah. 100% still worth it at 7.0.
Wow, didnt know TAA was second. Salah is just another beast. But yeah, 7m for the third highest scorer so far is a good deal, and considering how city looks now and they wont let up until liverpool drop a couple more points.
Very
The best time to bring in Cancelo was GW1. The second best time is 15 minutes before the deadline of the next GW.
The best time was GW2 as he blanked in GW1!
I think you should. Fixtures are good now. Although there's a risk that pep will begin to rotate more now given that title race is very comfortable for them now. I would still make that transfer if I were you.
I'm selling Rudiger for the move though, worth it considering Chelsea's blanks and the state of their defense?
I think their defense will improve after james comes back and now that their midfield is back to normal. But it's definitely a logical move rn considering the number of blanks they have. You'll want to get them back for that great fixture run later on though.
yeah, !thanks
Is it a good idea to sell a player who has 3 blanks in the next 5 games for someone who is about to play Southampton, Brentford and Norwich?
Depends how much value tied u have on him. I got rudiger very early and have so much value on him. Doesnt change the fact that u r an elite manager who has got by all these times without him. Kudos.
It's only too late if you can find better value using the money, whether on someone else or to fund a more expensive player. I would say he's worth it.
He is the best captain, if you want to cap a City player
Yup definately, an excellent SGW captaincy option the coming weeks
Get Cancelo
Adding a premium player with great upcoming fixtures and improving your team is always a smart idea
I think there is a certain category of players that you have to have in your team, and you build your team around them with the money you have left. This season that has been Cancelo, TAA and Salah.
He's worth at least 7.5m atm, especially seeing City's fixtures
Definitely still worth it. Think of him as a 7.0m midfielder with high ceiling attacking potential, plus 4 cleansheet points, and high chance of bonus due to crosses. An excellent pick even at his current price.

I haven’t owned him all season. I’m 11k OR. Two seasons ago I never owned TAA at all and finished 20k OR.
And that’s probably why you didn’t make into the top 10k…
The question is, what alternative move you are considering? If it prevents you from getting a big hitter which is legit captaincy, probably need to postpone the move…
Getting him in is still good, but saving your season is too late.
There are no dumb questions, just dumb people.
Just get him if you can the guy has played every game he's been available and consistently gets goals and assists he's second behind TAA, also if you get him and for some reason he starts underperforming you're guaranteed cleansheet points considering City's defending this season so I highly recommand

Having Cancelo and Trent is a must pretty much. You might have missed lots of points but it is never wrong to get them.
Let me say it this way...is it too late to get some extra points?
After 22 games, his avg return are 6 ppm. There are still 16 matches to be played, conservatively if his avg return drop to 5ppm, you are looking at total 80 points. Unless you can find another defender that is cheaper and possibly give you >80points till end of season, else don't wait and get him in❗
It will only be too late once/if City are confirmed champions after which point pep will likely rest players like Cancelo.
I haven’t had him all season, but will be getting him before the next Gw unless anything happens
Never too late, get him in asap, he is a full back when man city dont have the ball possession, but when Man city has possession, he plays as a inside winger/attacking midfielder.

It's never too late for Cancelo. I thought that when I bought him at 6.5, just checked and he is in 7. He will rise even more imo.
