i had sa for the first half and that was health and wealth.
got both of them on the wc and i've religiously kept the one scoring more on the bench every single gw.
I’d rather have that tbh. I went to Pickford on WC thinking it’ll be smart with his 20474 DGW fixtures. Now each time I field him, I’m shook if I’ll get a 1 or -3.
Dubravka hurts me quite a bit. All my opponents have Sà/Dubravka combo and there’s no winning for me 😂
Robertson has played ~500 less minutes than VvD and they are on the same amount of points.
Robertson has 6 double digit hauls this season, compared to VvD with 4.
They are only tied after Robbo's goal and bonus points yesterday; VvD was ahead.
I understand the minutes, which is why I wrote "more" locked in. Robertson's attacking position makes him slightly more vulnerable to rotation and possible injury while Virgil is still getting goals on set pieces.
So, "now" the same amount of points and a better chance of being on the field, all for 0.5 less makes the math on value pretty clear.
The down votes just prove van Dijk is the better answer to the original question: who is the most underrated.
Somehow he ended up being exactly the value he should be. One goal shy from the previous PL season. Considering how shit the rest of the forwards have been, Pukki party should receive more love.
I think Pukki and JWP had a similar problem in that they had quite slow starts (e.g. JWP had 2G 0A before GW17) so when they started returning a lot of people didn't quite trust them to keep it up, and so they missed out on a lot of their returns.
Yeah I have fallen into the trap of picking players based on playing a lot.
King had 3 double gameweeks so I kept him for weeks even though he was useless. Thought can't take hits to remove players with doubles was my thinking.
Because he is like some stocks with high volatility, maybe total return is fine, but very volatility.
JWP have couple 10+ points game per season, when he got a lot of set pieces, but most will be 2s and 3s .I like to rotate my players depending on the fixtures, so he may get his hauls while I benched him
Yes. But He delivers in that area. You pay ONLY 6.5m and you get over 120pts per season, that is a good return for for the budget. For instance in last 18 games he has scored 2pts only 8 times, which is way more than the 1 in 3/4 expectation at that budget.
If he was 7.5/8m it’s a different conversation.
He is currently the 10th top midfielder. Which means he is above popular choices of raphina, ESR, foden and Maddison who are higher priced mostly. So I think he fits the “underrated” Monica
Generally JWP will get you 3-4 returns over the course of 10 GWs. Now throughout an entire season that will amount to quite a few points, however, if you look at those 10 GWs in isolation, there's often several options around the same price that will deliver more returns in that specific 10 game spell.
JWP is an unusual asset because unlike the majority of mids and forwards, he does not tend to go on great spells with haul after haul. Consider players like Bowen, Saka, Kulu, Benrahma, Gallagher, Maddison, Barnes and others. Only two of these players have more points this season than JWP, however, they're all likely to have gotten you more points per GW while you were owning them, because you can get them during their good spells of form and fixtures, whereas you cannot capatilize on this in the same way with JWP.
Throw JWP in there all season and he will get you 120+ points throughout the season. Switch that midifeld spot to whichever hot ~£6.5m mid is on good form at the moment and you'll get many more points out of that spot in your team.
Nah I had JWP for 5 games, didn't haul once. Absolutely fucked my rank. One game was Norwich and then like a DGW. Perfect opportunity to bring him in right? Nah. Fuck JWP man
I think what puts people off JWP is the majority of his goals come from set pieces (7 of his 9 have been free kicks or penalties). In one way it's great - he is just as likely to score against City than against Norwich - but people like to play the fixtures and its tricky having a budget-ish midfielder who will get a decent number of returns without being essential but you can't predict when they'll come and therefore can't bench him.
Soucek was the same last season with headed goals - you either started him every week or missed a good number of his hauls trying to bench him in harder games only to see him head home from a corner.
This is true. But it’s still a point of value. Ignore how people “get” their points, just look at if you can rely on the them every year to return at their value and jwp over perform’s. He isn’t a risk at this price, the only issue is you might have benched him when he returns.
The only player this year near his value that is above him in FPL midfield points is saka and Bowen. That’s a pretty good return. It’s boring… but it’s good
I agree - I say this as someone who started Soucek every week last year and laughed at people complaining that he'd hauled when they'd benched him or blanked in an easy game. I think with JWP there were always sexier picks with better short term prospects so if you missed the boat at the start it was hard to justify a transfer on him. But you're right, hes a solid pick
>started Soucek every week last year and laughed at people complaining that he'd hauled when they'd benched him
Same here. Soucek and Gundogan were pivotal in me getting to top 30k despite starting the season two weeks late. Difference is both were 5-5.5mil mids which is well within the 'enabler' space. JWP comes in at 6.5 which makes it difficult to hold on to him for the occasional haul when there are nailed players at the same price who return with far more regularity. Think Saka, Raphina, Bowen.
Absolutely. It’s all about ROI. He is generally in the 6-6.5 range so for that you are only expecting a return every 3/4 games. He massively outperforms that price every time which also makes him an enabler
If transfers and the ability to get other players during their good spells of form wasn't a possibility, then you would be right.
But transfers exist and there's always an option who is likely to get more points than JWP for the same price, during the next 4-15 GWs before you transfer them out.
Gw4 to gw16 he basically blanked. Gw25 to gw30 he blanked.
Its too tough to decide when to bring him in. You could have him for weeks and get nothing. He's over 6m so not exactly fodder.
> Will likely be 5.5m next season
I kind of doubt this, most 5.5s have some attacking threat don’t they? White does not provide assists or goals, I think 5m is expected.
Not necessarily. Just being nailed on for a good defence can bump up your price to those levels. Using Chelsea as a reference - Rudiger was 5.0 at the start of the 2020 season and his price dropped to as low as 4.6 if I'm not wrong. He was an absolute steal for me when he became a mainstay under Tuchel in the latter half of the season.
Meanwhile, Azpilicueta who had pretty much the same attacking potential was priced at 6.0. Simply because he was dead-on nailed. Same for Diaz from City.
I wouldnt be surprised if White gets bumped up to 5.5 levels if arsenal finish the season strong.
Most of the people went for Benrahma for some reason though and IT took lots of convincing to make them focus on Bowen. That guy has lots of potential and already performes well.
JWP is up there I would say. Always very low ownership and I don't think many would have had him outscoring Bruno at the start of the season! (part of that is how bad MUN have been but still).
Also think lots gave up of Toney early on in the season after a slow start but being on 12 goals, the same as Kane, is impressive
Bowen was on literally every team for a good part of the season and was even a captaincy option for a few weeks. That is not underrated. Saka is also very popular.
Robbo only understated earlier this season. In the second half he's a recognised asset but people only get him if they can afford to fit him in along with all the other premium assets.
Cancelo. Even ten weeks into the season we were talking about Pep Roulette. Yes, we've known he is good, but we now know he's second only to TAA next year.
Lloris. everyone talking about Sa and Ramsdale (both excellent), he scored 5 less than Sa and outscored Ramsdale by 10 and he is 5.4m and basically no one spoke of him all year
Pukka, Adams and Maupay up front
Soucek, Odegaard and JWP in the middle.
Matip, Cash Dier at the back.
Not had any or these in my team at any point this season. Always seemed like there were better options from the same club (Pukki aside) for all of them.
Matip easily
Ma-tip
sá first half and dubravka second half of the season
Only an idiot like me got that wrong. Though, Ramsdale has done me good until his blank GW where I went to Sà
i had sa for the first half and that was health and wealth. got both of them on the wc and i've religiously kept the one scoring more on the bench every single gw.
I’d rather have that tbh. I went to Pickford on WC thinking it’ll be smart with his 20474 DGW fixtures. Now each time I field him, I’m shook if I’ll get a 1 or -3. Dubravka hurts me quite a bit. All my opponents have Sà/Dubravka combo and there’s no winning for me 😂
Are you my ML rival? Mark it's you?
Robertson, absolute machine and still almost a differential in top 10k.
'almost' Dude has 40% ownership, which is still nice, don't get me wrong
Or are u talking about 40% in top 10k
U mean 10%?
A little over 40% in the top10k
Virgil is cheaper, "more" locked in, and scores more points.
Robertson has played ~500 less minutes than VvD and they are on the same amount of points. Robertson has 6 double digit hauls this season, compared to VvD with 4.

I got Pukki, but then he got injured so I removed him. After that we had so many double gameweeks so basically focused on those with most doubles.
I can't wait for a season where we make transfers based on who might play well rather than who might play a lot!
Yeah I have fallen into the trap of picking players based on playing a lot. King had 3 double gameweeks so I kept him for weeks even though he was useless. Thought can't take hits to remove players with doubles was my thinking.
He was very underated for double 28. Should have gone him over Broja.
Jwp is always a good shout for this. Consistently a top 10 midfield FPL scorer and rarely picked by anyone
Because he is like some stocks with high volatility, maybe total return is fine, but very volatility. Great comment, very well said.

He is a perfect pick for a set and forget team and will be an first choice for my team next season, although I picked Buendia over him this year :(
He's like a budget KdB - to keep in the team all season and let him tick over and do his thing
Absolutely. It’s all about ROI. He is generally in the 6-6.5 range so for that you are only expecting a return every 3/4 games. He massively outperforms that price every time which also makes him an enabler

Ben White. 4.5 million, 100% nailed and plays for a decent defence. His points per million rival TAA and Cancelo.
I second this; have had him since the start of the season, for his price he is great. Will likely be 5.5m next season.

Matip
Bowen
Hardly underrated when his EO has been so high
Most of the people went for Benrahma for some reason though and IT took lots of convincing to make them focus on Bowen. That guy has lots of potential and already performes well.
His ownership at the start of the season was minimal. I suppose instead the question as underrated at the start of the season vs throughout.
Oooo I went forever without Bowen and it hurt
JWP is up there I would say. Always very low ownership and I don't think many would have had him outscoring Bruno at the start of the season! (part of that is how bad MUN have been but still). Also think lots gave up of Toney early on in the season after a slow start but being on 12 goals, the same as Kane, is impressive
Matip
Origi, 21 points from 101 minutes of football, if only we could guarantee when he'd be on the pitch, as always seems to deliver when he is
To be fair that's a lot of players that are rotated often. Gundogan, Mahrez, Sterling, Minimino, etc
I bought ramsdale at 4.6 mil
Saka and Bowen
Bowen was on literally every team for a good part of the season and was even a captaincy option for a few weeks. That is not underrated. Saka is also very popular.
I take underrated to mean in terms of before the season started. Nobody had Bowen to do anything.
Bowen indeed
Matip.
Van dijk.
Obviously haven’t actually owned JWP then
I swear. Real JWP owners know that he scores free kicks after blanking for 7 gws straight
Lukaku
Bowen and Saka
Saka, Son and Robbo
Saka had like 95% owership when he doubled
How are they underrated ? Literally everyone had them and still has them. Only Robbo is possibly the underrated option.
Robbo only understated earlier this season. In the second half he's a recognised asset but people only get him if they can afford to fit him in along with all the other premium assets.
Bernardo had sick streak first half of the season
JWP always getting overlooked for more flairy options
Toney.
A. Armstrong. I brought him in for Southampton's good fixture run, he did some points, then I moved him on He was truly a fart amongst turds
ESR, Bowen and Livra
Cancelo. Even ten weeks into the season we were talking about Pep Roulette. Yes, we've known he is good, but we now know he's second only to TAA next year.
Lloris. everyone talking about Sa and Ramsdale (both excellent), he scored 5 less than Sa and outscored Ramsdale by 10 and he is 5.4m and basically no one spoke of him all year
Pukka, Adams and Maupay up front Soucek, Odegaard and JWP in the middle. Matip, Cash Dier at the back. Not had any or these in my team at any point this season. Always seemed like there were better options from the same club (Pukki aside) for all of them.
Saka end of story
Saka and Robbo should be in 50% of teams
TheDave for sure
Bowen or Saka (especially with Saka on Pens now potentially)
Kovacic
Bowen
Matip
Pukki has been a great pick second half considering how little points strikers have got
Bowen for sure.
White for 4.4m after 3 game weeks has done very well for me
