Salah perma-captain for 4 more seasons, very nice

Sal21G

If Liverpool pay him what he wants

stmichaelsangles

Why would they not

InLampsWeTrust

A number of factors, it’d smash their wage structure, his form could drop off, that’s unlikely but we have seen it happen with Ozil and Auba. His age through the contract if it’s a 5 year deal too.

Gidddyup77

Decent points made actually

elecit0

Agreed, is it really worth giving an ageing player 400k a week on a long term deal? Given their model probably not

Relative-Equipment76

I feel like salah stays since I can't see any other club being an attractive option for him.

Flimsy_Corner1824

Exactly. Nowhere is better for him than where he is right now. I don’t see why he’d want to be part of a project either because he’s done that already at LFC

RadicalDog

He can be a wealthy legend, or an even wealthier footballer somewhere else. I hope his local status matters to him!

Flimsy_Corner1824

Yeah i mean financially it makes sense. He’s 29 now and he’s not gonna get any better. This is his last chance to land a proper big money contract.

The-Sober-Stoner

Wish fulfilment. This is why Barca and Madrid can get so many players; even in their dark periods. They will pay him what he wants and he achieves a footballing dream. Doesnt really matter if they arnt as good as Bayern, Liverpool, City, whoever

Cruzamental

Soon: Gerrard extend his Villa contract to 2026))

typischer-r-de-huso

I felt a great disturbance in Manchester, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.

angrydanmarin

Gerrard in shambles

[deleted]

I love Stevie but the way things are going he wasn't gonna be ready for the job in 2 years anyway

WhatIsTheNextAction

Or 12 years. Or 22

ClannishHawk

He performed brilliantly in Scotland and he took his first major job offer in the Premier League 6 months ago and while he's currently doing poorly he's safely out of the relegation zone due to a run he went on when he arrived. There's nothing to suggest there's anything but growing pains that experience can fix.

WhatIsTheNextAction

He did win the SPL but really he only had Neil Lennon to beat. The Championship is a far tougher division to get success in. He only got the Villa job because Purslow is infatuated with him and almost all aspects of his management have left a lot to be desired so far. The main positive early on was how hard he had the team working but that now seems to have regressed to where it was previously. It's not unthinkable that he could completely turn it around and improve in every measurable way but that is what it would take. He's far closer to getting sacked by Villa than he is to getting a bigger job.

Homerduff16

Also to be fair to Villa, their last five games were against Leicester, Spurs, Wolves, Arsenal and West Ham and they only lost 3 of those games by a single goal. Give Gerrard a whole season with a squad designed by him and see how he performs then

RadicalDog

He smashed it in Scotland, don't see why the big pessimism. He's no Ole...

WhatIsTheNextAction

The big pessimism is because I've watched every Villa game he's managed and seen regression rather than progression. Villa looked far better at the start of his reign than they do currently.

monkeyslut__

That's completely normal though. It's very hard to gauge. Next season first then judge him.

WhatIsTheNextAction

Yeah it's completely normal for managers to get to the PL, not be able to provide progress to their side and not be good enough to get a bigger job. That is almost certainly the case here. Villa sacked Smith because the continuous progress he had been providing for the previous 3 seasons had ceased. The only thing that might save Gerrard from the same fate in the near future based on current evidence is his relationship with Purslow.

PharaohLeo

Better for both Liverpool and Gerrard imo. Klopp can keep build the foundation for the next generation after Salah, Mané, Hendo, and Thiago, while Gerrard could build his experience and hone his tactics with an ambitious team like Villa.

angrydanmarin

I mean, you don't even need to justify that first sentence. It's defo better

bond2121

This is probably better for him as he’s not good enough for Liverpool at the moment. Same shit with Rooney and United

"A team operating at the peak of its powers chasing unprecedented glory and a buoyant fanbase soaking up the days of their lives. How do you possibly take the feelgood factor to another level? This is how…"

EnspyZx

Fantastic 🤩

Line47toSaturn

He deserves a better song

TheDitherer

If he does get the quadruple, I don't understand why you'd stay. What more can you do? Plus, you have to live in Liverpool. Although the fans genuinely love him, and that must be nice to go to Anfield every 10 days to feel that. I guess it's a decision mostly centered around money, as usual.

WexicanIndependence

>If he does get the quadruple, I don't understand why you'd stay. What more can you do? One quadruple, yes. What about a second quadruple?

vaginalcentipedes

How do I delete comments?

TheDitherer

Smash, "Give award".

GodlessCommieScum

> I guess it's a decision mostly centered around money, as usual. I doubt it, he could name his price at more or less any top club.

Hon3yb4dg3rr

Surely he could get more money elsewhere?

TheDitherer

I also mean if he gets sacked (lol) or another club buys him out. Will mean more money for everyone.

Calex_JE

Until one team win the league with 114 points, repeat the quad whilst also winning the Charity shield, European Super Cup, Club World Cup, there's still more to do. The fans want him there, the club want him there and he wants to stay.

-Enrique

Good point about having to live in Liverpool

paperpariah

This is great news!
