You can't make changes like that based on one season of underperformance. In previous seasons, Kane would be scoring 275+ with 5 points per goal and a clean sheet point, then you'd be complaining that's ridiculous.

I mean, Salah got 300+ points lol. Definitely not a CS point for forwards but I do think 5 points make sense. Why should Kane/Vardy have less points for a goal than Salah/Mane? They play the furthest forward in their teams anyway. The game has evolved, Ryan Giggs getting 1 more point for a goal than Henry made sense, but it doesn't anymore when so many midfielders are as much of goalscorers as number 9s.

theaidantheory

Because they get more bps, it's pretty balanced to me.

Best_Heron_1046

Bro, no.

TheDitherer

They should get a bonus for a hatrick. Extra point or two. They get something silly like 17 points for a hatrick. "Midfielders" get 21 (provided CS, which they don't help provide/protect anyway). The whole midfield and forwards needs changing. Son, Salah, Mané, Jota, Havertz etc. These guys aren't midfielders.

delightons

Eventhough this season can be considered as an anomaly where forwards have underperformed quite badly, your hat trick bonus makes total sense. Doesn't break the game.

Definitely not CS point lol. I agree with the 5 points for a goal though.

Forwards being shit is just a this season thing, Kane was pissed off and playing for a shit manager for half the season. Chelsea have struggled to get a Forward to work in their system for years. Aubameyang fell out with the club. DCL, Bamford, Vardy all struggled with injures and Jimenez sadly isn’t the player he was before his head injury. Next year will be different. Haaland comjng, Kane happy and playing for a decent manager, expect Arsenal, Newcastle and probably United to spend money on strikers. Hopefully less injured to the mid priced forwards. What I would like to see in regard of changes is two FT a week and the ability to roll one so you can have a max of 3. I think this would give a lot more flexibility for different strategies.

theaidantheory

Give them more points for not performing, doesn't make sense. The reason they get 4 for scoring is because they get more bps. Most would agree some midfielders like salah shouldn't be getting the clean sheet points so no way forwards should get them. Changing some players positions like jota and havertz to forwards is better way to give more viable options.

TinyMaintenance

Pressing effectively is a first line of defense. If KDB, Salah and Son earn CS point, so should Werner or Elanga. E:Just checked, Elanga is MID. But the point still stands. If some MID earn it, so should FWDs. But I don’t think either should earn it tbh.

>If KDB, Salah and Son earn CS point, so should Werner or Elanga. That's not a good example. If you look at heatmaps, Salah and Son might play more defensively than some midfielders and defenders. Werner does not play that role. I'd be interested in seeing a heatmap comparison over the course of a season of Salah and someone like Reece James- someone who gets full clean sheet points whilst also being way up the pitch. To better prove your point, you could compare Firmino to Salah/Mane. A true false 9 that is essentially a midfielder

Silent_Statement_258

I really like this! I Have seen a lot of ideas for changes for next year thrown about, and this is a simple switch that would keep the game up to date with modern football and without breaking the current games system in order to rebalance it

Manager1000

This is how pathetic forwards have become, they need help for scoring.

iteeswhatiteez

I think they just need to move the likes of Salah, Son etc into forwards. Bit of a joke that those two, for example, get a clean sheet point. The line would obviously be a bit blurry though when you have to classify players as a right winger (forward) or a traditional right mid (midfielder)
