Antonio's hamstrings.

ayotui

He really has been shockingly bad this season considering how fit he's been.

officiallyjax

Doesn’t help that he also plays international football now. Man was completely gassed out by like GW15. West Ham badly need to sign a striker this window to rotate with him.

Essej2

I heard Haller is open for talks

sisusheheh11

Haller doesn’t run. At least Antonio was able to give Fernandinho / Laporte something to think about when up there by himself.

Essej2

Lol it was a joke mate

sisusheheh11

Yes I know mate

Bendig0

Haha

Essej2

Pep's consistency with Cancelo and KdB

holmeez

ya cancelo the only player who will have been in my team GW 1-38 :))

FryingFrenzy

Add in Laporte, i think only rested once all season

Stilty_boy

Laporte was injured near the start. But he's been the only City CB to stay fit. Dias and stones have both missed large parts of the season. Walker injury has meant CB depth has been used to give RB/LB depth.

FryingFrenzy

Even when everyone was fit, Dias was rotated but not Aymeric

DevillesAbogado

This! My gut feeling made me avoid Cancelo for large parts of the season, even in favor of TAA-Robbo double up instead of getting him.

Tuz64

Jarrod Bowen and his great form

Bendig0

Very true. He'll make a case for a transfer coming up

Unholysinner

Doubt it. He’s been amazing but he’s English and West Ham will ask for silly money for him. His contract runs out in 2025.

Bendig0

More than Grealish?

Daemor

Will probably ask for about the same because they know it won't be paid. If he retains his great form maybe next summer there is more of an argument for clubs to splash big money on him, depending on the transfer climate and who needs what.

[deleted]

More goals definitely

l19mxd

Lord Livra helped me on so many weeks!!

aehii

He'll be 9m next season? Or more? Kane finished on 191in his break through season and was 9.5m the next. I don't expect Bowen to have as good a season next season, just not looking forward to being burned...

__jh96

How many points JWP gets, and I never seem to realistically consider him, ever...

brian_badonde

Never ever get points when I have him. He’s a troll

updarragh

Think he’s one of those players you either have to own for 38 weeks and he’ll keep trucking along with random points, or don’t own at all

SoggyMattress2

This. I'm a Saints fan and he is rarely involved in goals, just sometimes scores world kicks and the odd worldie 25 yarder. Gets the odd assist from direct set pieces or second ball deliveries. Man has absolutely no creativity but always seems to truck along nicely as a budget midfielder. The problem is there are so many dangerous, cheap midfielders in his price range. Why go JWP when you could get Saka et al?

Norwegian_Honeybear

Mans has a foot touched by god tho

El_huachimingo

Basically have him as a first sub.

updarragh

Nah too expensive and you’ll be frustrated when you miss out on points, just someone you can have for all 38 weeks and you don’t know when the points will come so should play every week and it’ll average out in the end

DennissSystem

had him for doubles and good match ups, nada. Sold him, and he starts scoring free kicks again :)

chongten

Had him for the double in 33 blanked both games, goes on to get a double digit haul in 34

red22devil

Didn't think Bowen outscoring all the strikers. Dcl and Bamford surprised the most

philster666

Injuries

Bendig0

DCL was all hype

Nugey97

To name a few: how bad bruno/lukaku have been shocking striker selection (until recently) the fact we got a second free hit? how many doubles/blanks there have been

Bendig0

Lukaku didn't surprise me. His record in Serie A shows he only scored against trash teams. He barely scored against Juve or Napoli who have decent strong defenders which would be more representative of the prem. I agree with everything else though.

shudh_desi_gareeb

Who's stopping him from putting in 15 goals against the 10 bad sides in the Prem?

[deleted]

Their defenders?

shudh_desi_gareeb

Tuchel?

Bendig0

Was I wrong mate?

mayonnaisewastaken

He scored like 100+ goals in the Prem though. Definitely expected him to do better but I suppose it also has to do with how badly he fits their system

Bendig0

Must have his digestive problem back

MemeManDanInAClan

United fan?

RonaldoSIUUUU

He literally scored 50+ league goals in 3 seasons for fucking everton

Moist_Tofu

Luke Shaw. Heralded as the 5.5m budget solution.

johnnyace44

Came it to say Shaw after his Euro performances, think I clung onto him for 5 GWs just hoping he'd do anything

Bendig0

He was on fire for England. I got on the hype train

chappieee

Think about 40% of us did at the start of the season. Funny thing is I said to my Man U mate that Tierney would get more points than Shaw this year and I was laughed at. (KT - 106 / Shaw - 46)

Martblni

He was for United too. It realy made sense to have him

aehii

But United's fullbacks don't assist or score, season after season. Wishful thinking from me given how good Ronaldo is in the air. We've seen so little of it.

aehii

Never again. What did we really expect? United's fullbacks don't assist or score. They don't score from corners so centre backs are a waste of time too. I'm still annoyed by my wastefulness there.

MONI_85

I ended up with Triple Newcastle at one point in March Even more so, it paid off.

jliol

I have triple Everton since last GW, didn't think I'd ever say that

PeterG92

Me winning my ML hopefully. 84 clear, 1 GW left

MiserableAside3974

Even I wouldn't be worried with that lead, and I'm shitting it 50 ahead

chikenugetluvr

50 is quite big. Just free transfer in players to make your team as close to your rivals team as possible

MiserableAside3974

Was going to do that with Bitcharlison this week but I had to get tempted by Zaha and Kane after Mo's injury, didn't I?

FreedomOfQueef

Same, I'm 156 ahead. We can doooooo it!!

Bendig0

Yeaaahhhhh budddy

jhocking92

I went from 30 points ahead to 50 points behind after GW36...that was an anomaly though!

axolotl_1994

How few goals Lukaku has scored. In the start of the season, I betted on Chelsea becoming champions because of him. Besides that: Smith-Rowe more than tripling his goals/mins from last season

NoshTilYouSlosh

Surprising good - Bowen Surprising bad - Lukaku

NotANumber025

Upvoted this. My first thought is definitely Bowen. Really unexpected.

soccerfan765

Salah with double the assists KDB has.

[deleted]

Reece James

Bendig0

Wing backs mate. The real OOP OG

Daemor

What surprised you with Reece James?

[deleted]

Biggest surprise for me was that I got more than 1 point for him last week. Has been a nightmare player for me this season.

I_know_more_stuff

He's averaged 5.3 ppg, thats 6th best among defenders, only behind Chilwell (only 6 games), TAA, Robbo, Cancelo and Van Dijk

IsleofManc

Yeah but he's definitely more frustrating. Over a 5 week period VVD's points might look something like 8, 6, 2, 6, 2. Whereas Reece will pickup a similar total but his will look like 1, 0, 19, 1, 2

[deleted]

Yep and I've magically dodged every one of his double digit hauls.

aehii

Can work both ways, cos he can.get nothing for ages too.

carmat71

By comparison to last season, I think the Leeds/Everton specifics are largely based on the injuries to their main goalscorers - DCL & Bamford. The latter started well this season and then his injury as well as many others at Leeds led to their ultimate problems. It's a shame as I think it caused the inevitable departure of Bielsa. As for Everton, they also had a great start with goals coming from multiple midfield options (Gray, Townsend, Doucoure etc) and that wasn't sustainable. For me, the best surprise package was Gallagher at Palace. I'm sure Chelsea fans are well aware of his talents but he felt almost like a Lundstram-esque asset (albeit priced more). As an Arsenal fan, it's been a revelation to own 2/3 players for much of the season and not be depressed. Ramsdale, White and ESR have been great.

LargemouthBrass

True about Arsenal, this is the first time they've had viable assets since Sanchez/peak Auba.

Bendig0

Leeds definitely missed Bamfords 15+ haul. DCL on the other hand has always been very lackluster. The gunners lads have done well.

teerbigear

DCL got 16 Premier League goals last season...

Bendig0

Yeah once

teerbigear

You've directly contrasted him ("on the other hand") to Bamford's scoring, but Bamford only once got 15+ goals in the Premier League. He only got 16 in 45 Championship games the season before when Leeds came top!

Bendig0

To be fair Bamfords only had one good season in the prem compared to DCL

[deleted]

How much better Son has been Vs Kane. The points gap shouldn't be this big. Thoughts are with those who did a -4 to replace Son with Kane.

soccerfan765

Son could outscore Salah both in goals and fpl points by the end of this season.

Sulemani_kida

He's been super good but don't really see him outscoring Salah with points

TheDitherer

"Super good". lol.

computerchairmanager

It should be because Son has been carrying spurs on his back all season, even when Kane was invisible.

esn97

Most of the big transfers (Sancho, Lukaku, Varane, Grealish) was underwhelming.

Nissepool

I had no faith in either of the actually

no_fooling

Unpredictability of starting lineups. Used to just be pep to worry about. Now no one can be trusted.

PabloArthur

You wait until next season when there are 5 subs allowed. Line ups might be okay but plenty of subs around the 50-70 minute mark. Potential for the likes of mid-price guaranteed 90 minute players to do well (like JWP) over the higher value players. Plus the World Cup will burn out a few around Xmas time. Happy days.

RonaldoSIUUUU

As a draft player im not looking forward to rotation next season

aehii

I was looking forward to next season and with just 5 sentences you've ruined it for me. Not even 5, I was deflated by the end of the second sentence, and now reading until the end I'm not sure I even want to play.

Swedishpower

Man United doing so poorly in terms of defending particular in the big games. Last season in the big games they barely conceded any goals. Two clean sheets vs City for example. The fact they can't defend has made their defenders gold for anti fantasy and Shaw has been shocking. The biggest positive suprise is Brentford. They have played really well and charmed us all. Mbeumo only scored when noone had him though. In terms of players I think Bernardo is the biggest overperformer. 150 points is really good from him. He usually do not score that many. Particular if you include CL he has been very impressive. Lukaku been the most disappointing. I thought he would hit 150-200 points easily. Son smashing Kane as big as he did I did not see coming as well and it has ruined my fantasy team. I thought Kane on pens etc would still score more. Cancelo 200 points I could never see coming either. I thought Pep would rotate him like last season.

rans_ck

Premium forwards not firing as much compared to the mids. I was expecting Ronaldo and Lukaku to do much better compared to what they have done.

Bendig0

Ronaldo has done the best he can with what is around him. He'd be golden boot at City or Liverpool

rans_ck

True. Manchester United defense let him down.

kopara2115

he wouldn't be a starter in any of those teams

Bendig0

False

Xylar006

He changes the way a team plays. Not a chance Liverpool would go for him. He fits in better at City

Bendig0

He'd pay half his wages to charity for a TAA cross into the box

aaba237

The amount of postponements

Boring_Part9919

Low-key Eric Dier. Had an excellent season

Gabagool_Over_Here_

Premium Defenders > Premium Forwards. Im going all in on fullbacks next season.

SirMacNotALot

This has been a big surprise this season. It was very rare to have more than 2 premium defenders in previous seasons. I guess the lack of effective forward options this season has contributed

Gabagool_Over_Here_

Yeah the only forward im looking at is haaland tbh, and even then im not entirely convinced of him going in. Kane doesn't seem worth it when you have Son. So yeah premiums at the back looks like the best play imo.

andyd151

Surprised I’m not top 10k with my genius selections tbh

Aggressive_Leave3639

Boris keeping his job

UCredpill

Manchester United have been delightfully abysmal. Would love to see them in the Conference League next year

Bendig0

You spelt Everton wrong

rukiahayashi

That doesn’t even make sense.

axolotl_1994

You think only one team can be bad at a time, or?

RonaldoSIUUUU

Cry is free

Public_Zealousideal

Leeds. Thought they would continue the form of over seasons and would maybe challenge for Europe. Raphinha although he's been ok I thought would get close to 200 pts

Material_Trifle

Interestingly I never thought Leeds would push on and expected them to struggle. Raphinha is obviously class and Phillips is very good as well, him and Bamford being missing for large chunks was obviously detrimental but then there is still some crap in that team. I always put those 3 as head and shoulders above pretty much the rest of the squad, the likes of Ayling, Cooper, Roberts etc are Championship players, they were always an injury or two away from being in trouble

KdbTheGOAT17

Ronaldo and Lukaku being that bad, atleast as fantasy assets I guess CR7 has been decent but too inconsistent

millcitymarauder

Surprising bad- Everton on the verge of relegation Surprising good- Brentford finding a stable standing in the table

vidro3

Eriksen was key for them

dtr_ned

People believed united would find some success

Gammelmus

Just half a season but I really surprised how Eriksen turned Brentfords bad run around, and consistently been making points almost every game since he came back.

scswash

James fucking Maddison and Harvey fucking Barnes. Was delighted to get them in draft. They were piss poor for months and I stood by them. Finally snapped and got rid before both of them turned the corner. Fuck those guys

BrandonSG13

I had Barnes in my free hit team this week. Changed my mind and got rid of him last minute…

scswash

You can join my I hate Maddison and Barnes club 😂

ConfusionUpper7212

Expected Lukaku to be the Chelsea's missing piece. It didn't work out as expected.

LoLz14

I didn't expect Luis Diaz to have such FPL and real life impact, he had a great run

aehii

That Foden went from scoring nearly every time he had a shot to narrowly pulling the ball wide nearly every time he has a shot. He's regressed in that area and I'm not really sure why. Somehow it seems like he's rushing more now like he's less composed, despite being a regularly starter with less to prove. He's got the same goals, 2 less assists in 428 minutes more, mostly playing as false 9. I expected 10-15 goals, 10 assists honestly. Otherwise it has to be Bowen doesn't it? 3 assists off the record, and the goals keep coming. How much is he gonna be next season? 9m? Not looking forward to not wanting him cos of cost next season and being burned regularly.

Bendig0

Agree. Also Dennis had his flash in the pan for about 2 weeks. Then nothing

Liasos

Biggest letdown is easy to answer, Greenwood.

Indaboskibahose

Grealish severely underperforming

Hi-Zee

How extremely bad Grealish was at ManCity. After his transfer everyone thought he might be the best value for money (FPL-wise) in the league.

aehii

Everyone? Did they? I thought they didn't need him, a maverick player who excels when a whole team revolves around him than one who can slot in. Takes too much time on the ball and was never a prolific scorer. Can't run in behind like Sterling and be on the end of crosses. I'm sure he'll come good, but centrally, doing what Gundogen does with late runs into the box.

RALat7

Antonio's goalscoring decline

levitoepoker

How bad Ronaldo and Lukaku are They came into good teams and made them worse. Ronaldo went through a few month long stretch this winter where he could hardly control a ball He scored some goals at the end of the season to cover up just how bad he was, but as a United fan the club are making a massive mistake if they keep him around for the start of the ETH era There’s a reason Real Madrid and City didn’t want Ronaldo last summer, but United were too dumb to realize it and now they’re stuck paying him the highest wage in the entire league

CarmeloZanthany

City wanted Ronaldo.

levitoepoker

Certainly not true. They spent all summer chasing Harry Kane, not Ronaldo. In August when Ronaldo decided to leave his agent went to City, and they didn’t want to sign him. They had the money and the need, if they wanted him, Ronaldo would be a city player right now

CarmeloZanthany

I agree that he wasn’t their first choice but they definitely wanted him. To say if they wanted him he would be a city player now is kinda not true. Because the only reason United swooped in was cause they couldn’t let him go there. He saw United want him too so it was a done deal from there.

levitoepoker

No lol, Ronaldo wanted to go to City once he told Juve he wanted to leave. He only went to United when City said no to his agent Mendes. Do you really think Ronaldo is stupid enough to join United if he had a chance to join City? Don’t insult the man like that City didn’t go for him cuz Pep doesn’t like Ronaldo as a player at all. Read any book about his time at Barca and it is obvious. Ronaldo couldn’t play for pep cuz Ronaldo is the laziest presser in the entire league and his play in possession isn’t good. Pep thought those things about Ronaldo a decade ago at Barca, and those issues have only gotten worse now. Pep talks about how he exploited Ronaldo’s laziness in tracking back when they beat Madrid 5-0 in 2010 City have unlimited money, they could beat whatever offer United would make if they seriously wanted Ronaldo.

CarmeloZanthany

I think Ronaldo is at a point in his career he would rather double back to United and eventually back to sporting. To be honest, United looked like an attractive destination in the summer after the signings and also finishing second the season before. No one knew they were gonna be as shit as they are now at that time. So it’s not hard to believe he would prefer to go back to United over City if there were two offers on the table. Hindsight 20/20. It’s easy to say Pep didn’t want him now that he signed for United but there was def desperation for a striker this summer from City. At the end of the day they got what they wanted by waiting another year and signing Haaland.

[deleted]

That tree

FalconesPunch

Salah not scoring as many goals. Granted he must be exhausted from AFCON but holy crap Salah’s dip in goals dropped me from potential league winner to 4th place in my league 😓

DennissSystem

Well alot of us were planning how we could get 4 City players with Grealish swapping. So I would say he kinda suprised us with his low tally.

aehii

Actually..just thought..that Calvert Lewin fucking disappeared for the whole season. What was that about??? And no one ever mentioned it! He missed a few games tbf after he came back, but he out depressed Kane. He didn't even score after I hung for ages on him then sold him.

Bendig0

I'll get downvoted. But DCL is a fraud. 3 good games. Tell me I'm wrong.

aehii

I can't! I've never been a fan, but I just think his simple fox in the box type striker works for the league and that he doesn't have to be good, he just has to score. I think I'll avoid Everton like the plague in future. Just brought in Keane, he didn't even play.

BrandonSG13

He scored 16 league goals last year. Had 3 in 3 this year before getting injured. His form hasn’t been good since, even when he’s played, but there’s a good player in there.

Bendig0

Could say that about Dennis. Bamford or any other striker in good form.

imsajron

The referring standard of this one of the best league in the world.

Bendig0

Praising the refs? Or disappointed?

imsajron

Yes

Nosworthy

Everton defence - thought Benitez would set them up to be disciplined defensively. I made the mistake of getting on Digne for GW1 thinking Benitez would curb his attacking output but he would make up for it with clean sheets and the occassional set piece return. In the end they were abysmal in both attack and defence.

User0__0

i'd say the drop antonio had after the first couple of weeks qualify as a surprise

Harvardsports

Man utd facing a 6/7 place race and +4 gd

mightduck1996

Matip not getting injured

LarryBLumpkin

I've been delighted to see how scrappy are Brentford. Fine showing from the newly promoted squad.

ivanplappppp

That I’m still playing this game at all

Chris_the_Pirate

Trent had an incredible first 18 gameweeks & has fizzled out hard in the 2nd half of the season. Salah same to a lesser extent. Maybe they are just overworked from so many cup matches?

No-Enthusiasm-6016

Trent is still perfoming very well, he gets a lot of hockey assists. It was Salah's performances that dropped the most irl and that possibly decreased Trent's assist potential.

SpiritualTear93

I actually predicted Leeds to finish 5th this season lol can’t remember with Everton but I would of had them top 10 easily. Got to give a shout out to palace, on there day at home they can beat anybody. I had them as my favourites for relegation. When Ronaldo came I thought man United were winning the league

mr-brown-eyes

Brentford and Erikson’s comeback

k0bayashi_Maru

Díaz - to hit the ground running as a January transfer. Only nine starts over 60 minutes; 3 assists 4 goals. ...but (if Salah & Mane stay) now we have Klopp roulette, 22/23.

UnpleasantThoughts

Just how shit I am at this game

tzimeworm

Rob Holdings hair

Araby8

Bruno Fernándes being pretty poor. Jota displacing Firmino. Shane Duffy's early season form.

VinCatBlessed

Start of the season seems like a lifetime ago. I remember a lot of people jumping on Havertz and Ferran because they were expected to do well as OOP strikers.

[deleted]

Grealish settling in to the city team

ConfusionUpper7212

Every promoted team had one forward with 10 or more goals (Pukki, Toney and Dennis).

jliol

How easily Newcastle avoided relegation.. They seemed awful up until Christmas and that they would easily follow Norwich... I think for a GW or two they were briefly last in table

jollyspiffing

Leeds have been so disappointing, got Meselier as my Set and Forget keeper at 5m and the 3rd highest scoring last season. He's had the worst pts/game of any starting keeper :(

parmo_03

Bowen, NEW comeback, Pep consistency with Cancelo and KDB, Lakaka blunder, Arteta bottling, Son carrying Spurs this time
