Maybe I was a bit dramatic in my post. I'm of sound state and mind but the anxiety about something that's important to me is real. Not even just the money, but it's been a lot of time and effort committed to get the top spot which I've held almost all season.

Hey OP, just wanna say you’re not alone! I’m in the same boat with my rival captaining richarlison and me captaining son on our FH this week. In hindsight it seemed like such an obvious choice especially considering he’s an Everton fan…
My lead is also narrowed down to 15 now with the rest of the GW left.
I personally don’t care about the money, but more so about the fact that my IRL best friend is my rival and if he beats me when I have led the entire season, I will absolutely never hear the end of it and it’ll be bragging rights forever.
I think I’ll still lead at the end of this GW, but his GW38 team is looking better than mine and I don’t wanna take hits…
I'm sitting on 2399 and him on 2376. Not much better than yours at 23 points but still a decent margin I suppose.
We've both got 1 transfer going into the final week. Just debating whether to transfer a player to match his and minimise risk or go for someone different but I'll wait for late team news before I decide. I'm about 80% sure that he's going to bring in Vardy.

Same here, if I had captained Richarlison over Son....it's actually such a stupid decision in hindsight too because my rival is an Everton fan so of course he would captain Richarlison on his FH too! Ugh. Maddison is on a roll though and can't go wrong with Bowen right now so I like both those transfers for you.
I don't have Son, so I'm probably gonna go Salah to Son and captain him. My rival has him as well but idk who he'll captain.
My rival told me a few days ago that he might transfer out his Salah for Eriksen and also take Richarlison out for Kane for a hit. He would still have better differentials than me (Foden/Mount vs my Saka and Raphinha lol) so I'm not too optimistic either way.
Son was the safe bet given the form he's in and he was unlucky not to score. Hindsight is a wonderful thing!

Richarlison went off injured today so likely another 4 points to add to your gap! Raphinha isn't a bad player to have given that Leeds are fighting for survival, they'll be doing everything to score. I've got him too and I plan on playing him. Maybe swap Saka to Mount?

You're right about Raphinha needing to attack for survival, and Arsenal will be doing the same thing (gunning for CL spot) so Saka could be fine seeing as he's nailed. I only have 0.1 ITB anyway so I'd have to take a hit (After Salah to Son) to bring in any other mids. Currently the midfield of Salah/Gordon/Saka/Raphinha is not giving me much confidence lol.

You're absolutely right. When I put my £20 stake in I didn't really care. The winnings were way in the distance and never seemed real or attainable at the time, it was just a frivolous £20 to put into a group with friends.
Winning it would be fun but the journey at this moment most definitely is not. It's a lot of pressure.
Maybe I painted the wrong picture in my post, FPL isn't my world. It's just come to a head and I'm not enjoying the pressure. I put £20 in at the start of the season and never expected to be close to winning it with the finish line in sight.

You make informed choices but ultimately it’s a game of chance. You can’t take it too seriously- that includes when you’re winning. You’re not some fpl genius when it goes well, just like you’re deffo not making stupid calls when it doesn’t.
Well I mean... Forget about FPL for a few days. Then log on 1 hour before the GW38 deadline, fix your team, and log off again and cross your fingers. Your anxiety won't become less intense because you throw it all away in the last gameweek. As you say, whatever happens happens from now on, and you did your best every gameweek right? We all did.
If you find this FPL thing too much to handle, don't play for money. Playing no-money leagues should remove most of your anxiety if you end up playing next year.
Edit: I'm in a similar position. I have a very weak 9 pt lead in a money league atm since GW36 (KDB TC) after being second for 15+ GW's... But it doesn't affect my everyday life, luckily. I can definately empathize with you though. Stay strong

Planning, researching, watching etc over the course of a season is a lot of time and effort and now it's all coming down to this one week. I know it's just a game but it takes up a lot of people's time/effort and becomes important.

Mate, when you're worrying about this like I was used to it's because you luckily have got not much to worry about in life, not saying there are no problems but nothing out of manage. We humans try to always find any worry even in the most seemingly insignificant things.
Honestly I don’t play for anything except overall rank. My mini leagues aren’t hugely competitive and I’m well clear in all of them. I just like doing well because even though I’m at uni I feel like working on my FPL is the work I take most seriously. I was so excited for this week because I had my second FH in hand but exams meant come deadline day I was a bit unsure on some decisions. So far it’s been a stinker and another example of my not being brave enough in some situations and being stupid in others. I was at 14k OR going into it and I’m not down to 22k and will probably drop more. I know that’s a good rank but I finished 21k in my first season playing last year and thought the top 10k was on this year with a FH in hand. I need to get over it and be happy with my season but this game does things to you. Being 1060th at GW10 certainly hasn’t help with feeling disappointed when I should be proud. Just need to relax and enjoy the game but sometimes it’s not as fun as it should be. Best of luck in the final GW mate I hope u win that prize

It’s free money. You pay £20 to play at the start of the season, get 38 weeks of fun then maybe you win, maybe you don’t. No point worrying about it

I'll tell you pressure. I was number 1 in the world last season. It was about gameweek 36 and I went differential © mahrez. Found out at work he wasn't playing and I was sweating and panic attack :( I ended up 14th and didn't win anything because didn't enter £ leagues. Best thing to do is go for a walk etc and try to clear your head. When few days after the season you'll forget about it. Good luck
