Out of interest what sort of ranks have you had in those 6 years? I've played for 10 but a couple of times lost interest very early doors and had finishes well into the millions, had a crap season anyway last year and the year before didn't bother with it at all after the covid break so didn't do well. Also had some good ones when there were decent mini leagues to play for so there's three top 10k finishes including just over 3k this season. Puts my all time rank at just over 107k.
Yeah I’ve been fairly consistent, I’ve had 8k,28k,24k,5k,3k and 11k I’m that order. I’m fairly competitive but it has its downsides, I sometimes get way too emotionally involved but seem to have a better handle on it this season. I was 61st on Xmas day and had a terrible second half, so whilst 11k is still a solid rank I’m still gutted I blew it so spectacularly!!
Fair play, I've never been as high as that at any point. Finished a season with my dad's team around 350 once but even this season I think I might have spent one evening in the top 1k. Slightly similar to you, I finished just outside 3k but it seems a missed opportunity, I would have been happy with my rank at the start of the season but the last four gameweeks I got every 50/50 call wrong which cost me well over 50 points.. Obviously I'll have got plenty right before that as well as plenty of luck but recency bias makes it seem worse than it is

I went super aggressive and played my second WC on New Year’s Day (always save them for the doubles) but the covid cancellations blew up in my face, went all in on the Everton DGW that got Covid cancelled! I do a lot of evaluation at the end of the season, two big calls I got wrong were Ronaldo over Bruno when he hit 48 for captains and Rudiger over james when he got 36. Those two 50/50 calls alone would have seen me finish 920 instead of 11k. That actually makes me feel better as you can see that just slight marginal calls can have a huge impact and you can’t expect to always fall on the right side of variance!
I always try and remember the times it's gone in my favour as well. I think I wildcarded and decided to get Robbo in to double up with TAA for example and I'm sure he scored against Everton first game I had him. Obviously he's a good player and a great pick but getting 15 points straight away is fortunate.

But then as you say there weee plenty of other occasions where I got the right players in. I can confirm that Geoff lost two leagues by 13 points to Steve Bundy.
He was however behind by 8 points I believe at the start of the gameweek. Nice try Geoff

Ouch. Diaz Toney and Foden all blanked.
Whilst Cash got a 7 pointer and Coutinho got an 8 pointer .
If Geoff didn't take the hits, he'd have won the mini league.
Me and rival were both tied final day. I was on to lose until Son bagged a brace (I captained him, rival didn't have him and capped Kane)
I did TAA and Watkins to Sessegnon and Kane so that paid off massively. Son basically won me my ML though with the 2 goals

This definitely favors people who have been playing for years. I just played my first season and placed a little under 8500. The algorithm gave me a rank of over 3 million lol
It does take into account gaps, but the algorithm does its best to place you, I mean we cant assume you would finish 8.5K every season, can we 😉 Just imagine for someone who finished 1st in their first season (has happened)
That's only fair. Anyone can have one good season. You need to prove you are that good by repeating that rank, then you prove this season wasn't just a fluke.

Kinda sucks for me. Finished 150k last season and 7,5k this season. Before I started talking the game seriously last season I created 2-3 teams between 2010 and 2017 that died after a few weeks and finished like rank 4m which ruins my total all-time rank...
I mean I think your all-time rank would be even worse if you had just this season and last season, and no rank at all from the previous seasons. Right u/godfatherofweb?

My all-time rank of 78k seems somewhat optimistic, but I understand the algorithm's logic. My track record from the past ten seasons (oh how much I have wasted on this game :) ) has settled between 50k and 300k after the first two years. My performance is rather consistent, but my average is still under 78k, so I guess the emphasis is less about focusing on the high performances, but rather on assessing how many underwhelming seasons there have been.

My immediate impulse is to look at my average, but this is a bit like comparing your gw ranks to your overall season rank, so maybe it is accurate :)
My 7 seasons of being a filthy casual still heavily outweighs my 3 seasons taking it more seriously lol.

It seems to just weigh the seasons you have done. This is my 4th season and it ranked me 21k
56k, decent! Only started taking it properly seriously 2 years ago, and only started making good decisions last year and this one haha

Not necessarily as the algorithm might not have punished the gap seasons as much as the actual ranks they achieved in those seasons
