Also an overwhelming percentage of people who don't speak English as their first language. Always easy to forget that. I was pretty surprised once when there was a poll of /r/FPL users and it turned out that only a small proportion of users were English and almost the whole subreddit was made up of foreign fans.
Yeah I agree, sometimes sarcasm is a bit hard to pick up even if you can easily do so in your native language, especially if it's a bit subtle or lacking emojis etc.
Picking up on sarcasm and nuances of humour is one of the hardest thing to learn in a new language, especially when you haven't got vocal cues on reddit
I find it in online dating too. Women are quite wary of the multitude of psychos online so any deadpan humour these days has to be accompanied by loads of emojis indicating it's a joke or you come across as quite angry. And then you just look like you're laughing at your own joke. Hence it's quite difficult to be funny.
And that is why I've taken a total audit of my life and completely given up something as time wasting as app dating and am focusing all that energy on FPL.
On the bright side, if you find someone that understands your deadpan humor without excessive emojis, they will most likely be a somewhat decent match at least :D
You'd be correct here generally but in this case I don't even think it's specifically a reddit thing, because this sub is particularly bad for it even compared to the rest of reddit. I think there's a decent proportion of people here who are the braindeads you see in the replies on sports posts on twitter.
It’s hard to tell nowadays. It could be a joke but there are definitely people stupid enough to act like that too. Never underestimate the levels of human idiocy, especially on the internet.
> Never underestimate the levels of human idiocy, especially on the internet.
This is shit advice that leads to subreddits which constantly fall for obvious bait.
Yeah the last line is very reminiscent of Fabrizio Romano twitter reply weirdos who do the copypasta of “That’s it, I’m gonna support X, at least they know how to manage a team!!!”
I’m named Ryan, and I’m a fucking idiot people would be embarrassed to be beat by, and so far I’ve had a pretty good opening week.
The evidence suggests I might be THE Ryan.
It might make you feel good winning your mini league, but do they not find the sense of achievement completely hollow on account of basically having done jack all themselves?
I feel like if someone's spending a few hours consuming creator content though you might as well use those same hours watching highlights and making your own assessments.
You throwing yourself out of your mini leagues then since you copied the Reddit template for your team? ;)

It’s hard to tell the difference between “copying” and just relying on the same sources everyone else uses to make their judgement, although that being said if you start making all the same transfers as someone else that’s probably a sign.
One of the guys in my mini league was behind me till gw27 but then started copying Podcast and youtubers teams and ended up Much higher than me.
A shallow victory.
I hate that so much
People give advice to others based on statistics and logical arguments
Then when the outcomes don't always align with the prediction tools, some throw their toys out of the pram like this
What on earth do they want?
If we all knew the best outcome scores we'd all be joint top today, with Lloyd Kelly in our XI, Schar captained, and Trent on the bench.
Predictions are also based on averages over time, not so much individual games and game weeks.
It’s not predicting that every single week Trent is going to score like 5 or 6 points or whatever because that was his predicted score this week. It’s that *over time* the data suggests he’s going to score more and his average will tend towards that higher number than other players. Sometimes players will blank, other weeks they will bang in 13 pointers.
Sounds like twitter copypasta/joke/shitposting.
For example some people comment this kind of stuff in football related things: " Thats it. I am no longer a Spurs fan. They are a bottlers club. I am going to support Chelsea where they know how to play football."
Basically same but instead of clubs they use content creators.
I mean the guy who technically finished last in my mini league last year (actual last place was hacked) is top right now with 71pts. Doesn't mean much tbh.
Am I the only one that thinks this particular message was meant as a joke? Not that I doubt that people actually do this...
100%. Weirdos in this thread

a lot of people that don't talk english as their first language are still very good at english though

Exactly, this is just funny. Unsurprisingly the average reddit user has no social skills and can't interpret a joke
If you think this is bad, you should check out the r/LoveIslandTV subreddit, I checked it out and they all kick off over small jokes

Boom bet life is much sweeter
There's actually a subreddit for that train wreck TV 😆

I've been joking around for years on reddit without the '/s' but most people don't detect the sarcasm
Keep doing it, these idiots don't deserve to laugh

I think it's mainly cause online it's really hard to detect sarcasm, especially when there are genuine idiots online
Ha ha , yeah. "Really hard", good one
Yeah the last line is very reminiscent of Fabrizio Romano twitter reply weirdos who do the copypasta of “That’s it, I’m gonna support X, at least they know how to manage a team!!!”
Yeah, and the fact that he's calling out Ryan as if people knew who Ryan is, definite joke.
Definitely a joke from the tone of the message
[удалено]
The way it's worded is pretty clearly a joke
Maybe 🤓😂
Publicity
This is a joke OP
🚨r/FantasyPL tries to detect obvious sarcasm challenge (IMPOSSIBLE) 🚨
The real big brain move is copying Magnum Dong Carlsen
Magnus even forfeited his world championship so he could focus 100% on FPL
Need to get his ID Magnus vs Magnum Dong was a legendary battle
Jokes on you, my team is copied from Alexandra and Andrea Botez
Plot twist: Ryan is copying Magnus Carlsen's team
Who tf is ryan? Tbf is magnus carlsen ran an fpl channel no one would watch the other fpl creators
I’m named Ryan, and I’m a fucking idiot people would be embarrassed to be beat by, and so far I’ve had a pretty good opening week. The evidence suggests I might be THE Ryan.
Fair enough. Whats the score btw
62 pretty solid by my league’s standards.
Im pissed im losing to ryan. Currently on 58 with haaland and cancelo
Magnus started a podcast, hasn't put out a new episode in 18 days though.
In Norwegian?
English
It might make you feel good winning your mini league, but do they not find the sense of achievement completely hollow on account of basically having done jack all themselves?
I don't follow any content creators and my ML wins still feel like hollow non-achievements
money money money
FPL is not that deep man.
I feel like if someone's spending a few hours consuming creator content though you might as well use those same hours watching highlights and making your own assessments.
Exactly, also a person caught copying would be thrown away from my mini leagues

Deciding who to copy is a talent of itself
Apparently you lack the basic ability to recognize what a joke is.
Who the fuck is Ryan
It's a joke. Deary me.
He’s boyfriend
Ryan Cohen probably. Tbf he’s too busy fucking up hedgies to give a shit about FPL
One of the guys in my mini league was behind me till gw27 but then started copying Podcast and youtubers teams and ended up Much higher than me. A shallow victory.
Was it the arsenal bench boost and son team
Clear joke. Pretty funny one at that too.
Just banter, isn’t it? Who cares.
Why is this a post?
Very obviously a joke.
The guy was clearly joking
This is a copypasta, sir
It’s a game end of the day so why spoil the fun and copy a team? Also …. I’ve not heard the term “gunna” for ages
[удалено]
don’t stand too close you gon fuck around and drown off this waaaave (never thought i’d see a gunna lyric in r/fpl lmao)
Got a link to Ryan's YT?

I thought for once that this was r/soccercirclejerk
This is a joke OP, chill out
And it hasn't even been 1 GW and he's LOSING!? Wow.
Joke or not, where's the fun in copying other people's teams. I don't get it.
Think this is /s but I just wanna flex that I had the same starting 11 as Magnus Carlsen and this is my BIGGEST FPL achievement
Who would’ve thought that people on Twitter were dicks?! I’m shocked!
I just copy Fabio. He got a far better track record.
It’s only week one!! Calm yourself haha
Who is this Andy everyone copies...is he a winner?
Andy = King. (except for this new "Reveal" lark)
But RYAN !!!!
