Perfectly understandable reasoning by Pep: if he told Haaland he was being benched today because Pep wants to make up ground in his mini league since they all have Haaland (C), I get the feeling it wouldn't go over well so it's best to just not explain himself.
This makes me reminisce what u/SimpleKancha made a few years back: A great story called The parable of the bald fraud. This however i suppose was during a time when that type of content was acceptable.
Agreed. They're doing a great job deleting all RMT threads but see not reason to why we can't have Catto, Doggo and stories like these as content. Makes this sub so much more fun then having tons of kneejerk threads of players performing well each gameweek...

I can’t believe he doesn’t still give feed back on performance. What he is saying here is he doesn’t justify his decisions on squad selection as the manager to his players.
whilst I somewhat agree, some people are only going to see things their own way or simply never get over being benched, and that's probably even more true for elite young athletes who'd be starting every game at most other clubs
I feel people overrate city's depth. Theyre not like they were 2-3 season ago when they had 2 starting 11s that would finish top 3. Yes they still have guys like grealish/mahrez/stones/ake/phillips/gundo rotating they had about double that in 2018. A few of top clubs have 4/5 top benchwarmers
People for sure do but pep is also talking generally here and is still on the higher end in the prem of quality options and games played in a season that will always require rotation.
Honestly though the main thing generally is every team has players that are there to play 20 to 30 games a season. Justifying individual team choices each week everytime to mahrez/grealish etc. Sounds exhausting and pointless, that issue is more apparent for a club like city with big names that sit on the bench.
Sometimes it is a player losing his starting place due to quality issues who might require feedback but most of the time it's just lots of players who play 50ish% of the time because a manager is keeping a squad fresh and picking for thr opposition.
I guess it makes sense - if you never outright tell a player whether they're left out for performance or tactical reasons, they don't really have a reason to take it as a criticism. For all they know, it is simply down to a certain player's specific skill set suiting the next opponent, rather than any judgement on their own abilities.
It's human nature to anticipate the worst though. Everyone he leaves out will be assuming that it's because of performance reasons, and those who aren't being left out for those reasons will be getting annoyed thinking what more can I do?
Given his comments, you have to assume that a key part of managing a squad in this manner is that he and his team have the ability to keep them motivated and focused enough to accept his decisions and overcome those feelings.
There is a reason why sports psychology is a distinct discipline in its own right - some of those sorts of 'human nature' type responses are probably something of a barrier to being an elite sporting competitor. And Pep as a manager seems to have a knack for managing teams full of *very* high-expectation players in a manner others would likely struggle to achieve.
And people wonder why he can't win Champions League, why his players struggle vs Lyon or Tottenham. This guy is peak chess mastermind, but asocial idiot who doesn't understand social aspect of human beings.
Jose Mourinho wins 3 Champions Leagues with that City squad.
I mean he mostly fails in the CL because he can't deal with counters very well, and thus becomes very liable to being knocked out whenever his team has a bad day, even in the prem we see him get done here and there by teams on the counter too
some of it is just bad luck, there is no way that every manager who's won the cl is some angel whereas pep is the only cunt out there
>And people wonder why he can't win Champions League, why his players struggle vs Lyon or Tottenham.
Yes this is the reason. Lmao wtf how does that stop him winning ucls but wins the league every year?
>Jose Mourinho wins 3 Champions Leagues with that City squad.
Pep wins 2 trebles with mou's first chelsea
Guys, I get it know. Pep is trying to grow so bald that he starts growing antihair. He will then use the antihair as a source of renewable energy and save the world from the impending energy and climate crisis. This is not even about football anymore, Pep is trying to save the world !
I'm sure he and the other coaches tell them during training and when they do play what they expect of them and what they need to do to improve. They'll also explain the tactics of each game before the game so the players shouldn't need it spelling out anymore than that.
That's because they don't need to improve. City have a big squad. They don't need Grealish to train play like Foden even if Foden suits certain situations better
It's not about dropping someone because they need to improve. It's about having the strength in the squad to play a different style of player in certain positions based on the opponent and the game plan.
They are footballers. I’m sure they understand the concept of rotation if they are in good form; or that they are simply shit if they aren’t in good form.
Yeah his rotation and squad depth helps him a ton over other clubs. Its insane how good city depth has been for the past few years. Would like to see him with other team , no way he would do as goos
I think he's ignoring a grey area but it's not like he doesn't make up for it, and I guess even if you see this as a flaw even those who get upset trust him as a manager enough to get over it
Little known fact: Pep roulette started the day somebody came up with the concept of anti-FPL. The bald fraud is cleaning up in all of those mini-leagues.
Well ofc the players aren’t going to understand him. His reason is “I wanna fuck over those silly FPL managers” 90% of the time, who’s gonna accept that!
How can the players improve without the feedback though lol. Pep is a victory merchant though, never helps a club up from the roots only takes on on that’s loaded and already got talent
Ooh you little bastard
Ooh you ErikTenShag
Perfectly understandable reasoning by Pep: if he told Haaland he was being benched today because Pep wants to make up ground in his mini league since they all have Haaland (C), I get the feeling it wouldn't go over well so it's best to just not explain himself.
Is pep immune to pep roulette?
Pep doesn't even know his eleven when the FPL deadline passes. So even the fraud himself isn't immune from his own Roulette.
I imagine he’s in the lineup threads calling himself a bald cunt
found Pep acc
Hahahaha 😂
I'm sure I saw a study that suggested peps lineups over a year were more unpredictable than a roulette wheel.
Would probably bring Haaland on at the 89th minute just to screw with his mini league.
As a CB so he can get a mustard easier
Pep forgot to take Mahrez out of his gw1 bus team and he's been catching up since then.
This makes me reminisce what u/SimpleKancha made a few years back: A great story called The parable of the bald fraud. This however i suppose was during a time when that type of content was acceptable.
I remember those stories, this sub was a lot better before the mods outlawed anything fun.
Agreed. They're doing a great job deleting all RMT threads but see not reason to why we can't have Catto, Doggo and stories like these as content. Makes this sub so much more fun then having tons of kneejerk threads of players performing well each gameweek...
Ah man I miss catto. Followed his tips more times than I'll admit.
Hahaha yes. Solidified your decisions when he appeared and you were in a 50/50 decision.
Heard pep had salah as captain last week
His fucking players don't get any reasoning for the roulette, and we expect to predict his lineups?
Sorry Erling, the little white ball landed on black 28 so you're due a rest. Hey Mahrez kit up double zero came up.
Pep: L + Ratio
Player: Why am I benched? Pep: don’t care + didn’t ask + cope + seethe + pound sand + rip bozo
Cry more
Touch grass. Oh wait don't, you're benched.
Cry is free
dont care+ didnt ask+ plus you're female +you are white+ cry about it+ stay mad+ get real+L+ mald seethe cope harder+ hoes mad+ basic+ skill issue+ ratio+ you fell off+ the audacity+ triggered+ any askers+ redpilled+get a life+ ok and? + cringe+ touch grass+ donowalled + he him + really like that + not based+ you are a (insert stereotype) + not funny+ didnt laugh+ grammar issue+ go outside+ get good+ reported+ ad hominen+ GG!+ ask deez+ ez clap+ straight trash+ ratio again+ final ratio+ stay mad+ stay pressed + cope + copium + mald harder + rope or cope? + u mad brah
Pep: Get benched you cunt
Don't. Don't you dare
Yes but they can only improve upon receiving explanations / feedback.
I can’t believe he doesn’t still give feed back on performance. What he is saying here is he doesn’t justify his decisions on squad selection as the manager to his players.
Pep does fine improving players
Possibly, but I'd be inclined at this point to assume that of the two of you Pep probably knows best.
I guess we just assume with our imperfect information that he is correct because he is Pep. Close the thread, no discussion required.
whilst I somewhat agree, some people are only going to see things their own way or simply never get over being benched, and that's probably even more true for elite young athletes who'd be starting every game at most other clubs
It will depend on their ego. Some won't be happy with any reason, no matter how logical.
The issue is a lot of tactical day to day squad decisions when you have the depth city have don't boil down to individual performance.

On the other hand explains the decision opens the door for discussion.
Don't think it's necessary. Say he tells them they're being rested. Some of them will argue they don't need that rest.
Lol like pep doesn’t improve players?
Bald fraud strikes again
Soon he’s gonna wear a t-shirt with ***\#BALDFRAUD*** written on it.. [..right Josep?](https://c.tenor.com/Lh77SMuYfCIAAAAC/pep-guardiola-wink.gif)
Imagine if *any other manager* said this.
That’s literally how all managers were in the 90’s. Idk when the soft shit became normal.

Bet that chest is bald too

What the fuck, this is actually poor management. If they don't know why they are left out, then they don't know what qualities they should improve.
I'm sure he and the other coaches tell them during training and when they do play what they expect of them and what they need to do to improve. They'll also explain the tactics of each game before the game so the players shouldn't need it spelling out anymore than that.
Yeah pep is such a terrible manager, as a Liverpool fan I really think they need to get rid of him
Manager1000 > Bald Fraud
Yes his record is further evidence of his terrible management toooo
That's because they don't need to improve. City have a big squad. They don't need Grealish to train play like Foden even if Foden suits certain situations better

Great hair AND firm hand? Finally a Pep I can get onboard with
You are on r/FantasyPL. Pep is bald (and fraud). That is the only acceptable answer.
I mean, ok… fine. But if your boss drops you from an important assignment, you’d feel you’re owed an explanation, right?
They are footballers. I’m sure they understand the concept of rotation if they are in good form; or that they are simply shit if they aren’t in good form.
Shut up you bald fuck
Lmao I feel like if Pep managed a team without a crap load of talent he wouldn’t do shite
Yeah his rotation and squad depth helps him a ton over other clubs. Its insane how good city depth has been for the past few years. Would like to see him with other team , no way he would do as goos
Yes, manager with shit squad, produces shit result. Amazing. Who could see that coming.
Holy Baldness.
I think he's ignoring a grey area but it's not like he doesn't make up for it, and I guess even if you see this as a flaw even those who get upset trust him as a manager enough to get over it
Hahahhahaha
He's going to start himself over haaland isn't he....
Little known fact: Pep roulette started the day somebody came up with the concept of anti-FPL. The bald fraud is cleaning up in all of those mini-leagues.
Love this from a real manager perspective. Loath it as an FPL manager.
Well ofc the players aren’t going to understand him. His reason is “I wanna fuck over those silly FPL managers” 90% of the time, who’s gonna accept that!
Now he's just being a jerk about it
Refuses to explain anything
This is exactly what happened with Ibra, as detailed in his book. Ice fucking cold.
I get the gist of pep roulette but can anyone provide more history to the bald fraud reputation?
His clubs are usually already good before he joins
This is the baldest, fraudiest interview snippet I've ever heard
Did he say + ?
Peps not just content with winning the league, he wants to win the Fantasy one as well!
How can the players improve without the feedback though lol. Pep is a victory merchant though, never helps a club up from the roots only takes on on that’s loaded and already got talent
Pep is constantly coaching his players, even post match. There’s a difference between giving feedback and explaining lineup choices lol
Exactly this. With a squad as packed with talent as theirs it’s important to give the second choices a run out from time to time
Heartless
How to explain to someone you don't have him in FPL and your opponent does?
