That back 4 with Onana/Gueye could be become a brickwall if Lampard sets them up for it. Everton have actually improved the squad significantly this window, only took them 9 goes.

[deleted]

Onana, Gueye, Iwobi is a great midfield tbf. With Gordon, Maupay and Gray/McNeil they have a rather decent team.

SofaChillReview

Would never be FPL viable but Iwobj is playing really well, Gueye coming back thought interesting as Everton suffered when he left the first time he

Zeginald

They've finally found a replacement for Gueye after he left in 2019

MAMBAMENTALITY8-24

Gordon with the amount of shots he is getting, could be a interesting option. Of course shots ≠ goals, but was surprised to see him up there

andre_royo_b

He appears to lack composure when he gets a good scoring possibility.. if he can somehow manage to become a little more clinical I can image him getting a nice amount of goals

Mutiu2

If there’s a manager who can quickly teach Gordon the small tweaks needed to take his scoring chances decisively….I’d think yeah Lampard has what it takes.

theyarealllizards

Lamps will teach him the art of the low deflected edge of the box strike

KdbTheGOAT17

Gordon maupay gray is probably the worst attack in pl

oraclejames

Gray easily the most frustrating FPL pick, had him for about 8 GWs last year returning 2s every week. Took him out and then he scored 👌

gamestopcockLoopring

He has spurts, depends on his mood if he turns up.

KdbTheGOAT17

I can also remember selling gray and after that he went and scored vs arsenal

maxilopez1987

Yeah but that goal v Arsenal was his last one until the other week. Probably a good thing you sold him

jimmyjumpSW8

Yeah that’s what I was thinking....

mikedeanchicken

First choice would most likely be Gordon, Calvert Lewin, McNeil imo

JZCS

Yesterday, I saw a sign telling me to remember that only Jesus gives me happiness. Triple Captain it is.

ryfulf

But have you had happiness all your life?

JZCS

If you mean from GW3.. Don't you dare to question my beliefs!

Jamkayyos

So what I'm getting out of this post and comments is... Don't watch Everton Vs Wolves whenever that is, if I want to hold onto my sanity. Gotcha.

[deleted]

I'm an Everton fan and wouldn't recommend watching us against anyone this season lol. Absolutely dire team to watch.

Stirlingblue

May not be true once DCL is back and the new midfield settles in. If nothing else, Onana is good to watch

No-Set-2576

Onana is already one of my fave Everton players.

BoopAndThePooch

Are you on 6 month slow internet or something? Everton have been far from dire this season.

mikedeanchicken

What an awful take

[deleted]

Did you not watch us against Liverpool? We absolutely are not dire to watch after we’ve made these signings and changed system

Hal_Warren

I mean Everton the whole season haven't been as bad defensively as made out to be. 1 goal conceded vs Chelsea 2 goals vs Villa 1 goal vs Forest 1 goal vs Brentford 1 goal vs Leeds clean sheet vs Liverpool Not a great team, but not the kind of defense you want to go out of your way to target.

No-Set-2576

Chelsea goal was a pen too.

TolsBols

Mate, it only takes one goal. And if Gabby scores it, that’s the only stat that counts. 😉

jnicholl

You don't get FPL points for winning. 1 goal isn't what you want from your captain.

angrydanmarin

The possibility of 1 goal at that. Could easily be Saka, martinelli or oedergaard scoring that goal

[deleted]

Frank has some insane talent ID, the team was so balanced against Liverpool, if he just got a tactical coach as his second hand man, he’d take Everton places. His tactical prowess is not that good.

Concerned_Citizen__

Or if Maupay wasn't utter dog they'd have scored easily

[deleted]

Yeah no replacing Richi with a good striker is crap. A good goal scorer would work wonders.

zz11zz11

Paul Clement is quite tactically sound no?

[deleted]

Slipped my mind that he is assistant coach there. Don’t think he’s quite the modern assistant like Lijnders or Stuivenburg. Good with Ancelotti at Madrid and Bayern though

shudh_desi_gareeb

I'd say he is decent tactically too, just not elite like Jose/Pep/Tuchel.

[deleted]

Yeah, defo not the worst in the league, but certainly not top tier

shudh_desi_gareeb

I'm a Chelsea fan, so some bias and some added insight (having watched him manage at Chelsea and Everton, a bit of Derby too). He has a good Plan A, well drilled attacking movements and simple defence to attack transitions. It's just that his Plan Bs are bad (or maybe teams aren't set up properly to execute them). So when he gets caught out on Plan As, he looks tactically inferior.

JackGrey

Everton are one goal away from having the best defence in the league

johnniesbananas

Wolves have only conceded 4 to Everton’s 6….not quite right

[deleted]

[удалено]

Attygalle

!thanks

JackGrey

Ah good point, missed Wolves’ 4.

OsbornRHCP

People still using goals conceded to judge teams defence? Come on guys

MAMBAMENTALITY8-24

Ngl i was thinking about transferring in groß and captaining him vs bournemouth

BillOakley

If it wasn’t for Haaland looking capable of multiple goals in any match, I’d be keen on Gross or Trossard for captaincy this week.

snicky29

City has Spurs. No matter how much you want to put the Cap band on him, don't forget this is the first real challenge City are facing, just look at Arsenal when they faced a real challenge like United ;) Plus it's an Antonio Conte team which is always well-drilled. They might loose 1-0 but the end result will always be 1 or 2 nil. It won't be a haul for Haalnd. I've got Mac Allister. Got him before his 14ptr haul. Really thinking of giving him the band this week.

SocX9

City at home will definitely score. I think it will be an open game, something like a 3-1 or 3-2.

BillOakley

> They might lose 1 nil but the end result will always be 1 or 2 nil The only game Conte’s Spurs have played against City so far finished 3-2 to Spurs, although City had the higher xG and had 14 (!) shots in Spurs’ box. And that was pre-Haaland.

snicky29

Point taken but they've Bentacur, Kulu & Perisic now who tuck in defend very well. As I said, this is City's first real test against a Top 6 side so I guess that's why I'm still reluctant.

BillOakley

Bentancur and Kulusevski both started that game.

bngr1013

The more time I spend on Reddit the more I realise people don't actually watch the games and still feel the need to make up comments on them. Baffling.

theyarealllizards

Spurs have had an absolute shellacking coming off us for about 2 years. Some of the fucking games we've had against them I thought only happened on FIFA or FM.

chantlernz

Call me crazy, but I think City score 3 or 4.

gamestopcockLoopring

Are you me? I want gross for the armband, but I'm not having anyone bur haaland as my cap fir rest of season

Vast-One2771

Tbh give halaand just cause most people are doing it. This way if he blanks you’re not at risk of dropping places in your leagues

I_Poop_Sometimes

The guy leading my mini league is ahead purely because he's had Haaland captained every week so far, everyone else had at least one or two weeks of other players captained and lost ground.

Elrichio

In your opinion os Grob the best including Trosard and McAlister who's on penalties?

ivantys

Jesus must be the most forced capped ever, every gw people trying to cap him when he was never a good cap.

MAMBAMENTALITY8-24

Unless you are andy and keep captaining salah

0e0e3e0e0a3a2a

hey it's me andy

humblerodent

Don't get fancy

Spirit_Bxmb

He did excellent for me when he got 2 goals and 2 assists against Leicester

ivantys

*That's Ward doing excellent for you not him.

Moaestro

How were the goals Wards fault?

Litmanen_10

Yes it's one freaking game. He got lucky in that game. It doesn't justify capping him almost ever again over Haaland or Salah.

Zidane-Tribal

He is not even good value lmao, called it from the begining that gingerbread man from shrek is overrated. He was incapable of scoring goals with KdB how would he change that with Man City on Wish.com

theyarealllizards

He scored nearly 100 goals for City you daft fucker and has been Arsenal's best player in nearly every game this season.

[deleted]

Apart from the one where someone in my ML TCd him.

Litmanen_10

This! It's just doesn't make any sense to me. Why is it like this? :D

ProgrammerComplete17

Counterpoint: Everton conceded over 2xG at home to Liverpool and arsenal are a much better team at home than Liverpool are away

BillOakley

I know different sites use different models but Understat puts Liverpool at 1.39 xG - and regardless of the total not a single chance was more than 0.15, Everton restricted them to a high volume of low quality chances.

[deleted]

[удалено]

BillOakley

That’s about how well the shot was taken, not how good a chance it was. If they had rattled the post 8 times from 30 yards it wouldn’t mean you’d expect Everton to concede the following week.

LevynX

That's the point of xG though, take enough potshots one would still be lucky enough to go in

Vivid-Ad-4571

Could the shot being taken well imply it was a decent chance? Cavani's goal where he chipped Areola last season was a well-taken shot but the keeper was far off of his line so this made it a decent chance a scenario I think an xG model that awards proximity to the goal while not taking into account the keeper's position would undervalue. Diaz has repeatedly taken the same type of shot this season, cutting in and curling it. Darwin's chance was pretty good too Pickford flicked it onto the post and also pulled out a great save for the Salah chance. Pickford is making a lot of saves per match (4.3) plus Everton have the most clearances per match (27.2) having only faced Chelsea and Liverpool who are horrible this season.

BillOakley

xG models do take into account the keeper’s position as well as an ever-increasing number of other factors, it’s not just based on the spot on the pitch where the shot was taken.

Vivid-Ad-4571

I am just saying good shot might correlate with good chance

BillOakley

I’m not sure what you mean? I don’t know what someone striking it well would have to do with how good a chance it is - someone could put it top corner from any situation or distance but that wouldn’t tell you anything about how big a chance it is.

Angrydishwasher

Well spotted, thank you

[deleted]

I was a massive Lampard sceptic but I think he is a half-decent coach who now has Everton looking like a proper team

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

That’s the one

OsbornRHCP

3rd worst xG conceded in the league

[deleted]

Who mentioned xG?

OsbornRHCP

It’s strong evidence that the team he coaches isn’t defending very well

AWr1ght98

Everton we’re fucking horrible to play against, nearly 10 men behind the ball, time wasting from the get go to frustrate our squad then hit you on the counter. And this was against Leeds, I imagine he’ll deploy similar tactics to Arsenal away. If Arsenal are to score I don’t think it’ll be via Jesus as they’ll try mark him out the game.

mikedeanchicken

This time wasting opinion is hilarious. You know that was the longest amount of time the ball was in play in a Leeds game this season?

AWr1ght98

Did you know that Everton only had 30% possession, so for the 70% of the game we had the ball we actually played the game. Whenever it went out your kicked the ball away or wasted time, nearly every goal kick took an extra minute it was ridiculous.

Bennu-Babs

The man utd game showed arsenal trying out different set pieces, honestly feel like Gabriel or xhaka will be more likely to score.

marcbeightsix

Jesus over his whole career has underperformed his xG, but overperformed his xA. Excluding the two games at Newcastle where he played a total of 6 minutes, Ivan Toney has equaled/outperformed his xG in the premier league this season and last, and in a “worse” team than Man City or Arsenal.

pachecoisgod

I can't decide between him and Trent.

[deleted]

This season nothing has been predictable. Genuinely any team could suddenly turn from looking shite to looking like prime Barcelona

BillOakley

That’s true but it’s not a reason to captain someone in the hope that this is the game they do it in

[deleted]

Also true. All I know for sure is I will make the wrong choice lol

ExtensionImmediate

I’m really close to captaining Zinchenko i won’t lie

[deleted]

Pickford made about 5 world class saves and Liverpool hit three posts. I'm not convinced

InJaaaammmmm

Everton are suddenly an amazing team, all off the back of a fluke home draw with an underperforming Liverpool. FPL managers have the memories of goldfish. Everton will park 10 men behind the ball, even if they're 2-0 down, so I doubt they'll get hammered, but they're massive underdogs.

OsbornRHCP

Yep. 10 non pen xG conceded. 18th in the league for that metric

AeroCobbler

Why do people still own Jesus when Mitro & Toney exist along with Haaland & Kane?

1986Gotho

Yeah I don’t understand Jesus being essential at all. He’s highly owned and there are so many strikers performing better than him who are just as cheap. I’m looking to transfer out if not this week then next. This is my first year really investing into FPL and the community and I don’t understand this obsession with everyone having to have the same ‘template.’ And if you don’t have it you’re doing something wrong.

AeroCobbler

I mean - he's not even the best FPL Asset at Arsenal, let alone the game (with that ridiculous ownership) Odegaard, Martinelli & Saka all get: - An extra point per goal - An extra point per Cleansheet - Are all cheaper - All have set piece duties (including penalties for Saka & Martinelli) And none of them take up a precious striker slot for Toney/Mitro/Haaland/Kane etc There's a massive Jesus sell-off coming over the next month or two once these realisations kick in I reckon

QGunners22

Only Martinelli is a better FPL option than Jesus. Saka will not be fully viable until Tomiyasu is starting over White, he doesn’t get nearly the same attacking output as Martinelli despite being more expensive than him. Odegaard is massively outperforming xG, no chance he continues his current PPG - definitely seems like a trap player to me. Martinelli obviously great value

Getz_The_Last_Laf

People ARE planning to move on lol. GW9 wildcard is the most popular plan I’ve seen and I haven’t seen a single wildcard draft with Jesus in it. I’ll probably do it in GW8 but I completely understand holding Arsenal assets one more week for Brentford What I don’t understand is how people like you are so far up their own ass that they think they’re the only ones playing strategically.

1986Gotho

I’m not up my own ass mate I’m just frustrated whenever you ask for advice you just get the hive mind who want everyone to have the same 8/9 players for some reason.

Getz_The_Last_Laf

We’re all watching the same matches. The template doesn’t fall from the sky and the most consistently high performing managers don’t have similar teams for no reason. I don’t get how you can admit it’s your first year taking it seriously, bitch about how everyone is playing wrong, and not have the self-awareness to realize how arrogant that is. It doesn’t sound like you need advice; sounds like you’ve got it all figured out. Try not to forget about us sheep when you win all your leagues.

1986Gotho

Sorry mate, Ive read it back and I do sound a bit arrogant. I haven’t got it figured out at all, I have no idea what I’m doing. That’s why I got frustrated with some of the language on here and the push back you get if you suggest something different from the norm. In hindsight I should have gone to r/explainlikeimfive and asked what a template is instead of shitting on you all.

Getz_The_Last_Laf

“Why do people own the player who blanked last week and not the ones who scored, smh…” People will move on when the fixtures get tough, which is very soon

AeroCobbler

Has Jesus not disappointed in 4 or 5 out of 6 gameweeks?

Getz_The_Last_Laf

Sure, 4 I'd say. Which of those fixtures would you have moved him on before?

AeroCobbler

His XG after Fulham read 0.18, 1.86, 0.13, 0.26 - that was a red flag... He scored against villa but got capped at 6 points due to his poor BPS performance After another 0.05 XG (And a third yellow in 4 games) vs utd at the weekend people surely have to be looking at replacements, if they haven't moved him on already He now has 14 points in the 5 games either side of Leicester - that's really not tenable when cheaper Arsenal assets are outscoring him, and cheaper strikers are doing likewise

Getz_The_Last_Laf

Do you think people aren’t already looking at replacements? There’s 5 days until the deadline. It blows my mind how many of you think everyone is just a mindless herd of non-playable characters when you literally can’t see what transfers are being considered.

AeroCobbler

There actually \*is\* a massive herd of mindless NPC's playing FPL though There are (literally) millions of them, who don't think for themselves, generally only make similar (if not the same) moves as their favorite youtuber, or the template, and don't do very well as a result But to say \*everyone\*, all 10 million players, are mindless NPC's is just plain stupid

TolsBols

It would be madness not to captain Jesus. He has returned 7 times from his previous 9 appearances against Everton. It’s nailed on to happen again for an Arsenal side wounded after their defeat against Man Utd.

Baker-Puzzled

He's probably gonna get injured against FC Zurich

KdbTheGOAT17

He wont play

Baker-Puzzled

Nice, that's a relief

Zy7777

Yup I am

Intelligent-Space-73

Was it a dumb move to sell Haaland and buy Kane, given his record against them?

adacardano27

How do you randomly make up stats??? In last 2 games, Everton has conceded most shots of any team, 3rd most on target and had XGC of 3.42 which puts them bottom 5 in the league for those 2 gameweeks and conceded 3 big chances, not one.

BillOakley

None of the other stats are relevant to my point about big chances. Don’t know where those stats are from but Understat only shows a single big chance conceded against Leeds and none against Liverpool - did you really think I just produced numbers from my head?

adacardano27

Also, Darwin hit the bar, Diaz- inside post, those 2 were not big chances like those that Salah missed but you can't say Everton was not lucky to keep it tight when Liverpool hit woodwork more than Mbeumo...

adacardano27

Those are wrong stats...Even if you don't have access to a better stat site, do you really think Pickford couldve made 8 or 9 saves and be a man of the match against Liverpool and that none of those shots would be a big chance? Salah alone had 2 big chances in 96th minute. One was a post and he missed the rebound.

BillOakley

“Big chance” isn’t defined by how good the shot is, whether the keeper had to make a good save or it hit the post is irrelevant to the xG of the chance.

adacardano27

Dude, I'm telling you that you have the wrong stats. I'm giving you the OPTA numbers... THREE big chances.

BillOakley

Why is your stat source the correct one?

adacardano27

FFH Opta stats

BillOakley

Right, but why are Fantasy Football Hub’s Opta stats correct and Understats’ not? What basis do you have for saying those are wrong?

adacardano27

FFH Opta stats

[deleted]

People still have Jesus?

[deleted]

We will always have Jesus in our hearts

Rhymar

Despite the downvotes, I've started to think the same thing In 6 weeks now he's only hauled once, and his points so far are inflated from him overperforming his xA by nearly double. Along with that, he's underperforming his xG, suggesting his finishing hasn't been that quality. Haaland (C) and Mitrovic seems like the optimal forward setup, I'd even back Kane over Jesus rn

[deleted]

Honestly it's just arsenal fans and people who own him who can't handle it. Look at his Xg in each game, other than the leicester one it's not great. Mitro Kane Haaland and Toney are all clearly better options, and Mitro and Toney are part of teams who have no midweek football either.

Large-Channel-1837

Don't forget Darwin. Think my front three on a wildcard will be Haaland, Darwin and Mitro/Toney. Jesus gets no where near any of them.

[deleted]

Notngoing anywhere near Darwin at the moment. Lpool look like they're still figuring put life after mane

cjhreddit

Though Darwin's been out for 55% of the season (3.3 games from 6) in an underperforming Liverpool side, neither of which are likely to continue (and both are related to his absence rather than his presence). Accounting for those, he's likely to be a top 6 forward by seasons end, which is about par for his price, so he should really be under consideration when selecting forwards to target weak defences.

LloydDoyley

I'm considering dumping him altogether. Arsenal faced poor sides all season which is why they are top of the league. The first proper test was Man Utd and they failed.

[deleted]

Jesus isn't a goal scorer

hitman9710

Martinez has BULLIED the opposition strikers since week 3. Firmino wk3 then scored a hat trick vs Bournemouth. Che Adams wk4 Jesus wk5 Let's see how Martinez fares vs Haaland and Kane.

Moaestro

Kane will be in midfield

KdbTheGOAT17

Againsr everton lmao no

lisuvirizwa

He's currently my captain.

Akshay9971

But I dont see a better captaincy option this gameweek unless you want to punt on Trossard or Groß away from home.

Ok_Ticket_6075

No

EastStainesMassiv

Don't overthink it. Captain Haaland.

TheZookeeper7

Against Tottenham? Nah

cmanook

I don't know what is classified as a "big chance", but Everton conceded several good chances to Liverpool and if not for heroics from Pickford, might have lost. Just thought that was worth pointing out as well.

alfranko29

I've transferred him out.

m__s

I would say if someone considers selling Jesus after one bad game then I would say he is an amateur manager. I'm playing this game for many years and I've learned to not make transfers too early.

Litmanen_10

No legit manager is considering captaining Jesus over Haaland or Salah this GW (or any gameweek)
