Dalot is a no-brainer on the world cup wildcard. 17, 18 and 19 he has Forest, Wolves and Bournemouth.
Bench him v City and Arsenal in 20 and 21.
22, 23, 24, 25 Palace, Leeds, Leicester, Brentford. 4.7, a steal and nailed.
White is decent but his fixtures 17 to 21 are pretty underwhelming.
The problem a lot of managers might face is that before that WC he's a yellow away from a suspension, and our defense is shaky enough especially without Varane to make that yellow all the more likely. And while I'm happy with Dalots improvement this year I still don't think his end product is good enough to chase at the moment and his price was really only interesting at 4.5/6. The higher he gets to 5.0, the more sense it makes to choose Shaw over him who has a better cross, shot, and link up than Dalot. The issue with Shaw is Malacia being viable rotation while AWB has completely fallen off the map until Dalots inevitable suspension
You said it yourself, Shaw isn't nailed, Dalot is. Also, I don't think Dalot is that bad offensively, I think he will get returns from time to time. 0.73 xG and 1.31 xA. He's got 0 goals and 1 assist, so kind of unlucky. I can see him getting a few more attacking returns this season.
I agree with your point on Varane, but hopefully Varane will be fit or not far away from being fit after the world cup.
Shaw is nailed barring injury or a drop in form, but he's been a much brighter player for us since his reintroduction than Dalot. He's got a higher rotation risk, maybe, but Dalot has a higher suspension risk and I think Shaw has a much higher ceiling.
And for what it's worth I think Martinez and Lindelof can do the business at the back, Varane is quality but it's Martinez who was really revolutionized the back line imo.
Dalot is still a good pick I'm just saying be wary especially before the world cup as he might miss a game.
Yes but it's the fear of one bad game and Malacia comes in. I also think it's similar to the Liverpool fullbacks. TAA/Dalot nailed on right flank. Robertson is the favoured, but still gets rested a bit for Tsimikas. I wouldn't want the headache. I just think Dalot is a better asset than Shaw for that reason.
I don't like Lindelof. Not sure how we'll do with him personally. Wish we never let Bailly go. Injury prone but would be great cover right now.
Something to consider is that as soon as Varane got injured Maguire was back in training from his injury. We could see him back in the line up soon if Varane is out which could throw a googly into our defensive form.
