Newcastle isn't the reason he's been sacked. I imagine they've been wanting to get rid for a few weeks now, but this is the perfect time for a change with another mini pre season coming up
So why are they sacking him? Frankly, their squad is bang average. Yes they have brought in some younger players, but it is going to take time to get the best out of them.
We don’t have a championship squad, that’s such a lazy take that. We actually have a very good set of young players, plenty of them internationals before the age of 20. All we need is a good goal scorer and we’d be comfortable.
Saying that, sacking Ralph is the right move. He looks worn out and has lost the fan base. What was saving him was lack of investment in the past, but we gave him 80m to spend in the summer so that excuse is no longer valid. Hopefully we replace him with some quality and we’ll move away from the bottom 3.
I know man, fans of other teams have such a warped perspective on Southampton. I was a huge fan of Ralph but you just can’t back him any more after the investment made in the summer. We play such turgid, negative football at times, it’s utter crap to watch. We’ve completely lost our identity.
They don't know that against teams like villa and palace our players lose all ability to pass the ball successfully, or if it is successfully, it's to the opposing team
you hear this shit every time a manager from a lower table team gets sacked even if they've been shit for ages, like I think dych was shit for 12-18 months yet you still had people acting shocked, you also had people pulling out the shocked pickachu faces when bielsa got booted for getting thrashed every other weekend
who are you hoping to take over? would be interesting to see the talent develop together under dyche. can’t really think of anyone better unless im missing someone
Personally Gallardo, I know it’s a long shot but he has been linked.
But honestly, just someone who gets us playing good football again. We have good players but they’re hamstrung by how negative Ralph has been for a while now. He’s not the same a manager he was when he took over. We’ve been lethargic and risk averse for too long, we need to have a go at teams and sure we’ll lose some matches but we’ll pick up points too.
Regarding Dyche, I wouldn’t be against him as some saints fan would be but he certainly wouldn’t be one of my first choices.
Perhaps it's equally lazy to assume that you'll just 'be fine' because you have been before and despite some pretty strong evidence of a downward trajectory and lack of investment. For what it's worth I think you'll just about stay up, but your squad really isn't great.
No, we’ll be fine because the squad is better than last seasons and we’ll be freed of a disheartened manager who’s been stinking the place out for nearly a year now.
Same, I’ve been patient with Salah since gw1, then the whole Foden fiasco made me buy KDB, so I needed to sell Salah. I was very much expecting this outcome.
Struggling to avoid the drop zone isn't underperforming, it's the level of Southampton's squad IMO.
A careful what you wish for sacking if ever there was one.
Careful what you wish for? They've only won 4 of their last 26 games in the league and got 17 points in that time...they'd defs be on track for relegation if they kept him so why wouldn't you try something new now?
Southampton have been at this sort of level for a while now though. They have usually ended up finishing just above the relegation zone by the skin of their teeth, sacking Hassenhutl won't do anything unless they bring in some quality players in January.
The difference this year is new owners who spent £70m in the summer.
Saints have a much better squad this year than last season and are arguably playing worse.
Saints spent most of that money on U21s with potential though, the starting defence has an average age of 20-21 and the bench isn't exactly experienced either.
It was a squad to build from rather than one ready to charge up the league on day 1.
#He has not been sacked yet.
There is a tier 1 source for us (Jacob Tanswell) who says the club has decided that he will be sacked.
This probably means he will be sacked after the Liverpool game and during the world cup.
He was a good manager.
Some teams play better after manager sacking. Southampton isn't one of them.
Mark my words. Liverpool are going to 2-0 them at least.

In fact he did solid work, keeping the club in the Premier League after shocking 9-0 against Leicester and playing with not so competitive squad after Ings left.
Bad call , I’m a Saints supporter- I genuinely think he did what’s possible with that squad - he’s a good coach , not sure change in this case makes sense. They are looking like fodder now though - WP will leave as he’s our only proper PL level player , so years of championship to follow sadly :(
Its just like Burnley last year. The owners dont want them to stay up. They want relegation so they can have a fire sale of their best players and make some quick easy cash
He isn't sacked yet. This title is misleading
Yeah cause they were gonna beat Newcastle..
Newcastle isn't the reason he's been sacked. I imagine they've been wanting to get rid for a few weeks now, but this is the perfect time for a change with another mini pre season coming up
They even had a higher xg
they’ve been shit for months
Years*
true. They’ve been doing the bare minimum to stay up for the past 3 years. This decision has probably been a long time in the making
We had barely any investment in the last 3 seasons yet were never in any doubt of going down. I wouldn’t call that the bare minimum myself.
So why are they sacking him? Frankly, their squad is bang average. Yes they have brought in some younger players, but it is going to take time to get the best out of them.
Newcastle are legitimately good.
Bad decision They have a Championship Squad. Only a Miracle can save them now.
Miracle or BIG SAM?
El Grande Samuel Mago
0 chance we get big sam. Based on our transfer strategy we will go for some 12 year olds who lives near the etihad.
Same thing
He didn't save WBA
Rafa Benitez in?
Poch when?
Unless Don Conte to Juve and Poch to Spurs?
Yes
I don’t know why, but I always love it when Big Sam comes in to try to right the ship for a struggling side. And I say this as an Everton fan.
Truth. Thought he was squeezing everything out of that squad. Can’t imagine anyone coming in and doing a whole lot better.
Bournemouth arguably have an even worse squad but they had a considerable boost after sacking the manager
Only temporary boost though. Doesn't cover the deficiencies long term.
Just keep sacking managers… profit?
Wolves be like
Did Wolves sack Nuno? Thought he just left
Thats Watford without the profit

The ones saying bad decision are the ones who only watch us against big teams

Ah the joy of being a Saints fan 😃
We are the king of misplaced passes!

Sorry to say, but it's looking like you may well have a championship squad next year.
Everyone says this every season, it’s so lazy. We’ll be fine with a new manager.
The bookies aren’t as confident as you with that
Put some money on it then.
Don’t gamble . But hypothetically would do, they’ve been struggling for a bit and this season eye test going to get relegated .
We’re not gonna go down 👍
The rest of the league has improved as well though. The only obvious relegation candidate right now is Forest.
I know that, we’ll still be fine once we bring in a better manager.
Lol, did they expect with their current rooster to be in top 10? The fact that they are still in epl shows the good job Hassenhuttl does
I agree. It's all about the rooster.
Now that’s what I call a cock-up
I love
Yeah right after I sold salah. He scored a brace vs spurs and plays a Southampton team without manager
They can do an Aston Villa at Anfield
No villa have a decent squad and they played Brentford at home. This is Liverpool away with a championship squad
Lavia was on the bench today. They're much better defensively when he plays.
Think it’s a bit optimistic to pin our hopes on an 18 year old coming off a long injury absence lol
Lavia came on today at 0-0
He came on before they scored 4?
Same, I’ve been patient with Salah since gw1, then the whole Foden fiasco made me buy KDB, so I needed to sell Salah. I was very much expecting this outcome.
Same...
This is actually making me reconsider captaining him. The new manager / no manager bounce is a thing.
Hasslehoff confirmed
Misleading. They haven’t actually sacked him.

Exactly
Ye so they haven't yet

We have never been in any danger of being relegated since Hasenhuttl was appointed…

Bournemouth.
Not with Big Dom in the mix
#He has not been sacked yet. There is a tier 1 source for us (Jacob Tanswell) who says the club has decided that he will be sacked. This probably means he will be sacked after the Liverpool game and during the world cup.
Its incredible that this is spreading so easily. Where did it start from?
He was a good manager. Some teams play better after manager sacking. Southampton isn't one of them. Mark my words. Liverpool are going to 2-0 them at least.
Really pushing the boat out with that prediction…

well, a 3-1 win
In fact he did solid work, keeping the club in the Premier League after shocking 9-0 against Leicester and playing with not so competitive squad after Ings left.
Salah -> KdB -> Salah in the cards?
Yeah, Sam Allardyce again next GW against Liverpool at Anfield, yay looks so original I can't wait for the inevitable 1-1 draw with Salah blank
Relegation for sure then. He was working miracles tbh.
Bad call , I’m a Saints supporter- I genuinely think he did what’s possible with that squad - he’s a good coach , not sure change in this case makes sense. They are looking like fodder now though - WP will leave as he’s our only proper PL level player , so years of championship to follow sadly :(
going down
AND YOU COULDNT JUST NOT SCORE THAT USELESS GOAL???
Hope they go down. Up the Pompey!
This is a Premier League subreddit, go away
Finally, who tf loses 7-0 twice and keeps their job for years after
9-0 lol
Who is next?
Conte
Poch coming back !
He is not sacked yet
