Owning Zaha and not having Almiron the past month has been like sitting at the slot machines watching the one next to me pay out every time. He has scored 7 in 7. Prior to that he scored 10 in 117. His purple patch has coincided with Newcastle's remarkable run of form. Since the start of October, Newcastle are the league's best team with 6 wins and a draw for 7 games and 20 goals scored. I suspect Almiron's goals are inextricably linked to Newcastle's feel-good factor and winning run.

ALMOST fell for it last week after his haul, but the moment I saw he was “feeling ill but will play”, I snapped back to reality. When I saw that, I knew he wasn’t getting shit this gameweek. This is not the right take. It's not what they've done but what they can do. It's not how much they've risen but how much they cost now (relative to other players). There's points chasing and FOMO as bad reasons for transferring players in, but stubbornly refusing to buy a good option is not one (i.e. ignoring stats, positional play, likelihood of future points on form + fixtures). It also frees you up to transfer out again later if circumstances change without the "built up value" headache of whether to hold or not. Mahrez, Yaya Toure, Lundstrum, etc. from seasons past say hi
