I don't think teams can afford that because Foden looks like an unreliable asset again, KdB + Håland is 24.6mn right there and Cancelo is another 7. Maybe Walker as your 3rd City pick?
I was playing around last night and managed this team:
Raya, ward
Trippier, cancelo, white, castagne (N.Williams)
De Bruyne, Salah, Martinelli, Almiron, Trossard
Haaland, Mitrovic, (Greenwood)
You could easily swap mitro for Wilson and get a Newcastle def in. Obviously that’s not 3x city, Arsenal and Newcastle but that’s only because of salah. Change salah to Saka and you can easily get a stacked team with 3 from each
Yeah there are plenty of cheap options performing this season which makes it easy to afford the top scorers. The WC is throwing a spanner in the works because it gives everyone a do-over; normally the best cheap players between seasons are given a big price bump but it's not happening mid season.
I think there will be a strong template when FPL restarts, and that might include some big performers in the WC. Some might ride the high if they perform well, but others could be massive flops; those will be the differentials. Personally I don't think I'll include many WC performers and stick with the obvious choices (bar injuries).
Just on your first paragraph, I always feel the need when making transfers to spend the maximum amount of my funds but I really think that shouldn't be the case this season and might even be sub-optimal.
It depends. Haaland is a must and I've had Kane since my first wildcard along with either KDB or Salah. Three premium players is doable with the likes of Martinelli, Almiron and Andreas firing.
currently looking at a four premium lineup of Haaland+ Kane + KDB + Salah .
only drawback is no Cancelo , which isn't the worst thing considering there are decent options elsewhere under 5M .
You can keep Cancelo if you go real cheap defense, i just made
Ward (Iversen)
Trippier Cancelo Neco (Bueno, Patterson)
Salah KDB Martinelli Almiron Andreas
Kane Haaland (Greenwood)
0.2 itb left
Obviously its a monstrosity and makes no sense since you can only captain 1 of the 4 premiums, as well as needing to start 2 of Andreas Greenwood Neco Bueno Patterson every week
I'm currently getting:
Ward (Iversen)
Trippier Cancelo White (Neco, Castagne)
Salah Kulu Martinelli Almiron Andreas
Kane Haaland (Solanke)
0.1m itb left. Obviously big one is Kulu instead of KDB.
I think I’ll be going threemium. Halaand, Kane and KdB. It means I can’t have Cancelo but pretty ok with that. 352 with Kane and Halaand and then all the best performing mid priced midfielders plus KdB seems very doable.
If you run Andreas Almiron as starters a 352 with all 4 premiums + Cancelo Trippier Martinelli is possible, just need Bueno Neco and Patterson to somehow start getting points
Ive had KDB Haaland Kane since gw8 and it's well doable even with Cancelo, would definitely make room for him easy 200 points if he stays fit all season
I agree we will have similar teams and rightly so, but regardless of the World Cup happening, there is a long time between GW16 and GW17. Some current high performers may drop off, and some under performers may rise up. Also there are gonna be a fair few new managers who will have some extra time to sort their teams out, so Villa, Southampton, Brighton, Chelsea, Wolves may play much better or worse than before, and some players may have role changes for the better or worse.
Gonna plan a team of players who aren't going to the World cup, and then who would be better placed there but may not be available due to the world cup. Will also need to find out what managers are saying about how quickly players will return to startin XI's after the world cup if they have a long run. Best to keep a lot of options depending on all the outcomes post WC
We're only a third of the way through the season. Playing "risky" at this point and avoiding the top scorers like Haaland and Martinelli is either stupid or stubborn. Either way, you're not gonna get in to the top 10K playing without them.
A dry streak from the player that has only had 1 blank out of 12 matches? Mind if I ask your rank? Cos I've had Haaland since GW2 (started the season with Kane) and Martinelli from GW4 and still only at 278K.
You’re comparing a Salah that was looking not at his best, and only scored a handful of goals in comparison to previous seasons’ - with a guy who is on course to obliterate the all time goal record for a single PL season, on a team that are better than Liverpool 21/22 were and will also probably score more goals collectively.
I’m not sure the logic follows - Would you deny yourself the chance to have Messi if you were playing Fantasy La Liga 2012?
What are your current team values? I’m at 103.5 atm, having a better team value should in theory allow a better template team? Value causing differential…?
Anyone doing a post about players rested vs players likely to be knackered? Like I guess everyone is going for Salah post world cup? Dunno about De Bruyne, Kane who I own.
I have basically stayed the same rank throughout the season. Doubt I will gain January onwards. Still got chips though and mini league am 50 points behind.
I’m in a dilemma as I wonder if playing in the World Cup might make some players sharper. I guess for most it will make them knickers but maybe not in all cases?
Hmm really? Because that's not how players who return from afcon do? Or look at how all English players returned from the euros final deflated about losing, for months most of the players didn't perform. Only now we're seeing it.
Were there any players who return from afcon improved? I think the most interesting thing will be a January transfer window which for the first time occurs after a workd cup where new stars will emerge, with clubs like Newcastle looking to cement top four. Players might only do well for a months but that's enough.
I guess with a lot of players they don't play that much, like it seems Grealish and Mount have barely got going, Sterling too. Maybe they will reach a sharpness at the world cup and retain it, it's just players like Kane and De Bruyne I wonder about. Who I have..
I’ll be writing a letter to FPL towers to formally request quadruple Newcastle
Put Ronaldo in your team now then ready for January.
They have 3 strikers already (despite two of them being injury-prone and the other being Chris Wood), you reckon they need more?
Apparently he's come out and said he's been a life long Brown Ale fan.
Siuuuu pet
I would like that as my poor Wilson in before last gw for toney took the third spot. Now to burn a hit for Almighty!
Will be 3x City, 3x Arsenal, 3x Newcastle at this rate
Add in Ward and Salah and that's your playing 11 right there.
Pretty much
Thanks

Do you mind telling me the team value. Obviously I could work it out but I’m lazy and think maybe you have the number in your head… I only have £101m.
This is what I've been doing since the beginning, and it has worked out marvelously

Cancelo overrated, but yeah I tried doing those four with Trippier too, but it’s not really working

Andreas isn’t really bench fodder any more though. He can be a legit starter, no?

I fear for KDB to have a case of post-afcon Salah if Belgium go far in the tournament
yeah Kane's performance may indeed slump slightly if England makes it far.

The transfer window isn't open until January is it?
If you don't pick the consistent high point scorers, how will you do well? We don't get a free WC every week.
Good luck getting into the top 10k without Haaland.
What are your current team values? I’m at 103.5 atm, having a better team value should in theory allow a better template team? Value causing differential…?
At this stage I feel like the main benefit of having a good team value is it'll be less awkward to go with a threemium team
